Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is a surprising treat in numerous ways. It’s longer than I expected, taking somewhere between six and eight hours to complete depending on how thorough you are in exploring each area. I was expecting Dark Pictures length, but this is more on par with The Quarry. It warrants that running time too, packing in a lot of thrills, adventuring and storytelling. It’s also surprising in that it does a fantastic job of pulling you into the world of Dead by Daylight: it might not rely on you knowing much about the universe, but there’s a good chance you’ll come away wanting to play. When it was announced, a collaboration between Supermassive and Behaviour sounded strange, but seeing it come to fruition, it’s nothing less than a stroke of genius.

Sep 3, 2024For fans of Dead by Daylight, The Casting of Frank Stone is an incredible experience that expands the lore of the game in ways we have wanted to see for so long. For everyone else this will play as a great Supermassive movie based game. I do think that non DBD fans are gonna be missing out because lot of the big moments, reveals, lore and references are just gonna go over their heads, but if you are a fan of Dead by Daylight this is an experience you won't want to miss.

Sep 19, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is a great introduction to the world of Dead by Daylight for newcomers and a love letter for long-term fans. Even if you’re only looking for a decent survival horror game, I recommend checking it out. It’s well-written, engaging, and tells a well-paced and creepy tale without overstaying its welcome.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone takes a more measured approach to storytelling than The Dark Pictures Anthology, Until Dawn or The Quarry. It spends a long time getting to know its relatively small cast. When the scares and horror really kick in, they pack a punch because we’ve come to care about the characters. Excellent cinematic visual direction, an engaging mystery and top-notch voice acting are the stars of a game-slash-movie easily worth the price of a ticket.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is an excellent addition to the Dead by Daylight universe, offering an engaging and tightly tied narrative, full of references for fans of the original game. The focus on story and decisions creates an immersive and cinematic experience, with well-crafted psychological horror elements. However, the easy puzzles and skill tests can be disappointing for players looking for a greater challenge. The connection to the original universe and the possibility of replaying different scenes adds value to the game, but it stands out more for its nostalgic appeal to fans than for its innovation in gameplay mechanics.
-
Sep 4, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is the most beautiful game made by Supermassive, in terms of visuals. Full of special references to Dead by Daylight, it has a shorter and slower narrative than the conventional, but stands out for its creativity, good twists and innovations in accessibility.
-
Sep 19, 2024The Casting Of Frank Stone is an evolution of the formula Supermassive Games have been cultivating for years. A strong diverse cast with wonderful voice acting helps propel the intense and chilling moments on display in this horror tale. Great quality of life improvements and innovations create strong benchmarks for interactive games. Whilst a rushed and muddled final act and the lack of co-op hurt the games overall appeal, there’s more than enough for horror fans to enjoy. Dead By Daylight fans will have an absolute blast with this game, as I did. See you in the fog!
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone does a superb job of telling a greater story within the world of DbD, with cool twists and references throughout.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone shows Supermassive's adaptability, producing another great example of the narrative horror for fans to sink their teeth into. It's not quite as strong as Until Dawn or The Quarry, but the way it links back to Dead by Daylight is a big bonus for fans of that game and its universe with the exciting potential for more spin-offs in future.
-
Sep 3, 2024Frank Stone has embedded his unforgiving Wraith-like weapon into my mind. I cannot escape his legacy, nor do I necessarily want to. Ever since I stepped foot into this Cedar Hills mystery, I’ve thought about the lore of this game and the endless ways it opens up the Dead by Daylight franchise. Whatever the next story is about from this clever pairing between publisher and developer, I’ll be there, anxious but ready to give it my all until the bitter end.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone takes some big swings with its story’s final act that pay off and elevate what otherwise could’ve been just another narrative-focused horror game. Supermassive does a good job of adding some action to its exploration sections and layering in plenty of Easter eggs from the series. Dead by Daylight fans are sure to have a blast, and I hope this isn’t Supermassive’s last foray into making a horror game in an established world.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is yet another hit from Supermassive Games, delivering an engaging horror story deeply rooted into the lore of Dead of Daylight equally enjoyable by fans of the original game and those with no knowledge of the multiplayer game created by Behaviour Interactive. While its short length and limited gameplay may slightly hinder the experience, the game remains a worthwhile purchase for those who appreciate well-crafted supernatural horror stories.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is among Supermassive’s best work yet, with one of its strongest casts, a story that emboldens Dead by Daylight’s world while standing on its own two feet, and so much thought and care behind every single interaction. Not only is Frank Stone its best since Until Dawn, it even surpasses that seminal modern classic.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is an interesting, albeit mildly frustrating game that does a solid job expanding on the Dead by Daylight franchise.
-
Nov 14, 2024At its best, The Casting of Frank Stone works as an exploration of inevitability. Before the player ever takes control of the teens making a movie in the ’80s, they already have some inkling of how that part of the story will end. What makes the game special, though, is how much latitude it gives the player within that structure, allowing them to play out their version of the story to a truly impressive degree by using Dead By Daylight‘s dimension-hopping Entity as a justification for the wilder swings that can be taken. In this world the bad guys always win, but that doesn’t mean the conflict can’t lead to some amazing drama.
-
Sep 3, 2024Though The Casting of Frank Stone doesn’t make any sweeping changes to the formula etched out by the likes of Until Dawn, The Quarry and The Dark Pictures Anthology, it does manage to effectively marry up that formula with the universe of Dead by Daylight with impressive results. Notably, the usual flaws also apply here, with The Casting of Frank Stone beset by the same plodding horror adventuring, wooden dialogue and mostly annoying cast of characters that are usually the hallmarks of similar efforts. If however, you’re fine with all of that and just want another handsomely made Supermassive Games romp then The Casting of Frank Stone will surely appeal. Should you be a devoted Dead by Daylight aficionado though, feel free to add a point or more to the score and dive in.

Sep 11, 2024Although I found enjoyment in The Casting of Frank Stone, the title's main problem is that it jumps from two different stories both trying to set something up. Both the stories are building towards something greater, but sadly, the payoff comes very late and hinders the overall vision. It's still worth checking out, but with expectations in check.
-
Sep 8, 2024Despite my issues with The Casting of Frank Stone, I had a decent enough time during my six hours. The story may not have had the payoff I was promised at the start, but I was intrigued enough until the end, even if the gameplay did its best to take the sting out of the experience. Maybe my lack of Dead by Daylight knowledge hindered my enjoyment, but fans of Supermassive’s games will likely have a good enough time. Just don’t expect its best work.

Sep 7, 2024On one hand we have a team that has always sacrificed interactivity in the name of a cinematic experience, on the other hand there is an online video game that has never made an effort to tell a real story: the meeting between these two extreme visions of the medium has given life to a strange hybrid with a fully Supermassive gameplay structure, chock-full of references to Behaviour's work but narratively lean and devoid of the fun thrills that we would have expected from the team of Until Dawn and The Quarry. Completely devoted to exploring the lore of Dead by Daylight, The Casting of Frank Stone forgets to lay out a plot that can intrigue its audience, bringing on stage a narration castrated by serious problems of pacing and a horror factor that is slow to arrive, despite the short duration of the experience.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone will go down as a final chapter in this era of Supermassive, a chapter of highs and lows, but even though it has its faults there's definitely a lot of potential between a Supermassive and Dead by Daylight collaboration and hopefully we'll see this explored once again in the future.
-
Sep 3, 2024Frank's casting is a good adaptation of the Dead by Daylight universe for a single-player game. In particular, we appreciate the references and the way the lore has been integrated. Also the deaths are very graphic which is a good thing. Unfortunately, there are the same shortcomings as in other Supermassive Games games: too few plot differences, pacing problems and a lack of empathy for the characters. You'll spend a pleasant evening alone or with others, but that's as far as it goes.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone may be something for die-hard Dead by Daylight fans or those who truly love Supermassive's adventure games, and can even act as a good entry point for new players, but it can't help but feel like a disappointment. While the story is great and the camera mechanic is neat, the overall experience is dragged down by the likes of repetitive, bland areas and a few aggravating characters. Still, it's great to see a franchise with a lot of variety such as Dead by Daylight expand into other genres, but let's just hope that next time they bring along a lot more personality.
-
Sep 3, 2024Supermassive is back and teaming up with one of the biggest franchises in asymmetrical horror, Dead by Daylight. Whilst the visuals and sound, among collecting the odd Easter Egg provide the biggest highlights from the game. The storyline is a very slow burn, not worth the end-game final reveal. Although Frank Stone will be an exciting addition to Dead by Daylight, his standalone tale is overshadowed by long drawn out backstory and lackluster excitement.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is more invested in Dead by Daylight than itself at times.
-
Sep 3, 2024Supermassive Games' collaboration with Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive results in occasionally awkward fan service.
-
Sep 11, 2024A bland horror narrative adventure, too focused on paying homage to the Dead by Daylight universe rather than on creating a compelling and convincing story.
-
Sep 5, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone is a flawed game in many ways - full of plot nonsense, boring gameplay mechanics and in some ways cruelly ugly. But if you're a fan of silly B-grade horror movies that entertain more than scare, you can have fun here. Just don't expect much, and you may not be disappointed.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone sounds like a good idea in theory, especially for Dead by Daylight fans craving more storytelling, but the execution needed much more time in post.
-
Sep 3, 2024The Casting of Frank Stone includes a few minute improvements over Supermassive Games' approach, like its handful of quicktime event-free gameplay segments and clearer look at the branching paths. But it's still just the same formula with the same pitfalls that have regularly plagued this studio’s near-annual releases in the genre. Middling writing, frequently uncanny animations, and a lack of scares make The Casting of Frank Stone another passable entry in the interactive horror/suspense genre.
-
Sep 3, 2024We generally love the marriage between story and gameplay that Supermassive Games creates, but without the many advancements of The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Casting of Frank Stone feels far too simple. With an uninteresting narrative to boot, the first effort to expand the Dead by Daylight universe is a misfire.
-
Sep 4, 2024There’s a tense, challenging and truly immersive game to be made in the butterfly-effect, play-the-movie genre; take the pace and drama of Quantic’s Detroit: Become Human. Sadly, Supermassive are determined to stick to a very old and restrictive script.
