Completely broken multiplayer, constant 100 percent crashes, loss of music during game, incompletable missions, npc pop-in, frame stutter, glitches such as machine gun fire still firing although weapon has stopped firing, clunky dodge roll animation. Imo they have damaged their reputation for high quality indie. I tried and tried to love this game, but if the dev is not dedicated to fixing, im not dedicated to play it, not that it matters, they got my money. Stupid business model, because i wont forget this and wont purchase any more games by them. Shame as i have all their other releases dating back to ps3! Expand

What a beautiful, action packed MESS of a game.

The world building, environments, details and combat are so fantastic. It is most certainly one of the best Cyperpunk punk sci-fi worlds in gaming. Crashing constantly, cross play between ps4 and p5 an utter miserable mess.

Even just starting the game on PS5 and PS4 is broken broken broken.

My co-op partner lost out on his platinum after playing the entire campaign through with me, enduring all of the above to only loose his mission trophy due to a crash which obviously didn't properly register his progress.

All of the above issue have received NO support from the developers since the game released. Shocking!!!

Obviously a game pass issue where they are paid up front and anything after is just a waste of time and resources,

So from a 9/10 game I have to dock it at least 5 points but at the same time anyone with hair on their teeth will have a great experience.

Here's hoping we get another Ascent 2 in the near future with proper support.

Damn...and to the developers, if you do start on Ascent 2...work on the taxi and fast travel system. At end game I literally ended up spending more time in the taxi, lift and train than in combat. It was an endless path of running, taking a lift, taking a taxi (5 - 10 mins) and then getting to the objective point, completing the mission in about 60 secs and then 5 - 10 mins of traveling back to the quest giver...on and on!!!

This game may visually look great (even though I think such level of detail is unnecessary or even counterproductive to a top-down game) but everything else is just atrocious. The alien design is the worst since No Man's Sky. The Angara from ME Andromeda would look outstandingly compared to the Ascent races.

This game offers local multiplayer similarly to the Borderlands games. Hey, this game is a top-down Borderlands but with no guns at all. So, if you dislike Borderlands like I do, don't even consider playing this game even for free.

The gameplay mainly consists of backtracking which sucks even with the fast travel system because there are several floors in the game world and you can't just fast-travel through them, you have to take the elevator first.

When you use the Pocket Mech tactical, you always 100 % experience a visual glitch after exiting the mech. What is this? Fallout or what?

I really wish it was illegal to ‘pay for good reviews.’ The only thing everybody keeps talking about are the graphics and how it looks, which means bollocks if the game doesn’t play very well. The number of bugs and refusal to fix them shows how little the programmers cared for quality and were mostly focused on graphics and looks which has become the norm in gaming today. I’d rather have a decent looking game with outstanding fun gameplay over being visually stunning anyday. Between crashes, loss of inventory and save files to outright sometimes not even registering that I have shot an enemy but will get one shot by enemies several levels below me thru solid walls while supposedly under cover w full health and rejuv grenade going shows there was very little to no quality testing. Just to name a few of many issues that even a crap label like EA would at least fix. But then again, it “looks visually stunning” doesn’t it?! I would avoid this craptacular turd. Expand

Don't ever play this game, terrible difficulty design. Unlike other games, this game uses 'Difficulty Spikes', i.e. every few hours, the boss suddenly becomes harder and mobs come in much larger hurd. Most of the time it's tedious, but when it decides to be exciting, it becomes impossible. THERE'S A GOOD REASON this game sold so badly, don't make the same mistake, don't buy this game!

The Ascent is, for fans of a good isometric RPG with a futuristic theme, one of the best experiences in recent years. Aesthetically beautiful, it is not the most innovative experience in terms of both story and gameplay, but it manages to be competent in everything it proposes, resulting in an intense and surprisingly immersive journey.

The Ascent provides a vibrant, living environment for you to run around in and shoot at. The world is brimming with walking-talking NPCs and neon-filled areas. While the story isn't really that memorable, it's decent enough for you to push on to the next mission, which will lead you to diverse locations and up against different enemies. The bigger enemies can be a bit too much bullet sponges, but otherwise the gameplay and diverse possibilities are quite satisfying.

Overall, The Ascent is a fun twin-stick shooter that comes to the Playstation with an absolutely beautiful world design. The wholesale violence is very engaging but may feel a bit redundant as you can be pretty well maxed out about halfway through. I had a lot of fun with The Ascent, especially with multiplayer. It’s a beautiful-looking game that’s a blast to play that’s worth checking out.
