Aug 28, 2025Super Robot Wars Y is an excellent crossover and an exceptional Strategy RPG, with fun gameplay and a story that not only makes good use of its characters and franchises, but delivers something consistent and very entertaining.
-
Sep 9, 2025Although Super Robot Wars Y does not reinvent the tactical RPG formula, it refines it with mastery. Its combination of robust strategy, updated visual presentations, and iconic roster provides sufficient strength to rank among the best recent entries. Even players unfamiliar with all represented franchises will find value in the progression curve, level design, and attention to detail. For veterans, every cameo, animation, and narrative crossover functions as a tribute to the mecha genre.

Sep 30, 2025The bottom line is that Super Robot Wars Y is a high-octane ride from start to finish. There’s so much to love here in terms of the game’s robust combat system, the excellent mixture of franchises that are both new and old, and a soundtrack that absolutely slaps. Having never previously played a Super Robot Wars game, I can confidently say that while there are a lot of systems and franchises to understand, once everything clicks, it becomes an addictive experience, making it great for newcomers. While not every franchise feels equal in its inclusion, I have been begging my husband to find ways for us to watch some of the shows I am less familiar with, thanks to their appearance in Y. Despite some flaws, Super Robot Wars Y is a complete joy to play, and it definitely has me wanting to explore more games in this long-running franchise.

Sep 22, 2025If you thoroughly enjoyed Super Robot Wars 30 and are looking for new thrills, Super Robot Wars Y doesn’t bring many fresh ideas, but it makes up for it with an excellent story. Otherwise, it’s everything you could want from a Super Robot Wars entry: a solid SRPG packed with hundreds of interactions and thousands of special moves, screams, explosions, and heroic poses. And if you love mecha anime but somehow never tried the series, you’ll fall in love instantly. The only downside is the rather steep cost of accessing all the DLC.

Sep 1, 2025For fans of the various properties here, Super Robot Wars Y is a no-brainer. Even as someone unfamiliar with a lot of these properties, it was still cool to see the few characters I did know show up and interact with each other. I can only imagine how cool that would be if I knew the rest of this crew. Still, after playing it, I’m curious to check out a few more of these series because so many of these characters are likable and grabbed my attention. Even beyond the characters, there’s a ton of quality strategy RPG goodness here for anyone who enjoys the genre. Super Robot Wars Y may not break any new ground there, but it’s well executed and will keep you busy for a very long time.

Aug 28, 2025Super Robot Wars Y is a darn fun entry in the franchise, and it tries very hard to bridge the gap between the Super Robot Wars 30 style and the style of older games. It isn't perfect, with a tad too many stages and the poor utilization of some series, but if you're a fan of Super Robot Wars, there's a whole lot to like, and in the long run, it's probably an even better introduction to the franchise than Super Robot Wars 30. If you like cool giant robots and insane fan fiction plots, there's nowhere better to turn than Super Robot Wars Y.

Aug 28, 2025Even if the gameplay of Super Robot Wars Y merely follows in the footsteps of the franchise's past successes, it still provides a fantastic SRPG experience that any fan of mecha, whether they be hardcore or casual, can find enjoyment in. It's always great to see that the franchise is continuing to experiment with its visuals, roster and how the story is told. One can only hope that the future of the franchise continues down this path.

Aug 27, 2025Being able to simply review a Super Robot Wars game is crazy, after several years of navigating fan translations, imports, and having the first opportunity thrown off by… Work Problems, we’ll say. It was hard not to gush just about how cool this opportunity is. So in a way, I’m thankful to Gundam Seed for being so egregiously mid that I could keep my critic sensors online. Super Robot Wars Y has a slow start with a story hook that misses the gas pedal, but the series’ tried and true foundations and showmanship steer the ship home at the end of the day. Mecha fans are eating good lately, and I hope SRW’s North American console debut is the first step of a new normal. In the meantime, I have to look up SSSS.Dynazenon and see what that crew of weirdos is all about. Walking away with a nugget of something new to look into and discover is the final piece of the SRW puzzle, and a crucial part of the magic.

Sep 3, 2025Super Robot Wars Y is by no means a perfect game. It carries clear shortcomings such as reused animations and crude UI. However, this game deserves credit for clearly presenting the direction the series should move forward. The development team accurately understood what both longtime fans and newcomers wanted, and chose the wise strategy of 'selective focus and concentration.

Aug 27, 2025Super Robot Wars Y is a crossover that works more often than it doesn’t. It thrives less on its tactical RPG mechanics and more on the joy of watching decades of mecha anime crash together in one giant spectacle. The story is good if a little dry in its delivery, but the crossover event and battle animations more than make up for it. For every stretch of jargon-filled dialogue I zoned out to, there was an explosive robot finisher waiting to pull me right back in. It’s a little uneven, but it never stopped being fun.
-
Aug 31, 2025Super Robot Wars Y is tailored for fans who enjoy being part of the story and have a passion for tactical RPGs. It strikes a solid balance between complex systems and their execution, all wrapped in a visually appealing style. While it doesn’t reinvent the formula, it builds upon its strengths and enhances them.
-
Aug 27, 2025Super Robot Wars Y is another solid entry into the series that brings several exciting new properties that fans of the series will appreciate.
-
Dec 22, 2025It’s somewhat disappointing that the game occasionally loses momentum due to pacing issues, the lack of full voice acting, and very basic visual presentation. That said, if you push through the drawn-out introduction, you’ll find a genuinely engaging tactical role-playing game.
-
Sep 10, 2025Super Robot Wars stands out for its large repertoire of characters. Its entire narrative and gameplay is an excuse for iconic mechas and pilots to shine with interactions that fans can enjoy.
-
Sep 22, 2025Super Robot Wars Y didn’t blow me away, but it was able to keep me interested. As an entry point into this almost two-decade-old series, I think this game does just enough to pass. If the next game in the series is able to up the quality and try to engage the player more than I think it would go a long way towards increasing my excitement to try it out. But as it is now, I would say that only the most hardcore of mecha fans will get the most enjoyment out of Super Robot Wars Y.
-
Sep 9, 2025Super Robot Wars Y has an acceptable foundation to stand on as already mentioned, but no effort has been put into making a good final product. Everything feels cheap and substandard, and what could be an entertaining title is reduced to an underwhelming adventure that isn't worth your time or money.
