I am rather confused people are here saying first game was better and this one is disappointment. As someone who played both games (both platinumed) I have to say this one is much, much better. First of all it has story. It has cutscenes, and it give you some kind of clues of what to do and where to go. First one was a mess. At least for me. No waypoints, no “quests”, no nothing. Had watch YouTube all the time in order to know what the hell to do. This one is much better. And I enjoyed it very much. And loved sea truck, or rather train. And it’s not short game at all. But, there were some bugs, and fps was all over the place even on next-gen console like PS5. Graphics could be better. And should be. Hope there will be a third game in near future. Expand

I purchased this game about a year after playing the original and wow, What an amazing experience! This game topped the original in both content and story, the game has greatly improved and was worth the wait. I have seen people complain that theres less content but to me that didn't matter, it still gave me a great experience and literally blew the original out of the water, if youI purchased this game about a year after playing the original and wow, What an amazing experience! This game is addictive. It misses the 4k60fps mark, as many games do, but it is't very noticeable in this game anyway, as much of the game is dark and underwater.
Thankfully, its color and fluidity still make it a visual feast. I wish the world were just a little bigger and deeper, but there is still much to explore, and the cheaper price tag makes it a steal, and good value for money. You

You could get a good 30-50hrs out of this game if you were so inclined.

While not near as good (or as long) as the first game, I really enjoyed this sequel. While I'd give the first game a 9, I'm only giving this one an 8 for several reasons listed below.

    1. The game wasn't scary at all like the first one was. 2. You don't feel like you are the person on the planet. Your character constantly talks to herself and it is hard to be immersed. 3. The land

    2. You don't feel like you are the person on the planet. Your character constantly talks to herself and it is hard to be immersed.
    3. The land parts of the game are terrible and not really needed at all. Most of the time I spent on land was just driving around and running from monsters but not actually finding anything to progress the story. It just seemed like filler.
    4. The game really holds your hand. Every hour or so it will pop-up and tell you it found another location for you to check out. There is far less just swimming around and figuring out things for yourself in this game which was what made the first one so special.
    5. Hard for me to actually care about the story. I actually don't really remember much other than you are on the planet to find your sister. Not very memorable.

Once again, overall I had a good time with the game during my 25 hour playthrough but the whole time I kept comparing with the first game and was let down.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. El juego me a gustado bastante me parece una buena continuación de la primera, no innova nada como el primero sino que sigo los pasos de subnautica a los que les gustó el primer juego les va a encantar el segundo. Expand

Sub-Nautica Below Zero is a solid sequel for the original subnautica game. The graphics and gameplay are essentially the same, but there is a new large location to explore and a new story. The story itself makes no sense, but it helps to guide player to the new locations. There are minor improvements to crafting, new flora/fauna, expanded land exploration and new vehicles to control. The game is just as good as original subnautica (if no point are taken out for the silly story). I wish they would introduce new gameplay features and give players a reason to stay on the planet longer. After all upgrades are crafted and all locations explored – there is not much to do in the game. There is no multiplayer. Below Zero feels like DLC or mod rather than a new game. But it is still worth playing, especially for people who enjoyed original game. Expand

It's a great game, and in many ways a lot better than its predecessor.Except the Atmosphere and the music.

Below Zero excels when it commits to its free-flowing open-world sensibilities. [Issue#360, p.114]

Curiously, the way Below Zero oscillates from long restive stretches between points of interest to short bursts of perilous activity absorbed my attention in ways many more-frenzied popular horror games don’t.

Though it’s obvious this wasn’t intended to be a true sequel, Below Zero’s frozen trimmings still make it a worthwhile expedition. Be patient to get to the good stuff. [Issue#2, p.84]
