This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A Star Wars game that doesn't feel very Star Wars-ey.
*SPOILER WARNING* for the end of my review.

I'm not going to go full-depth with the game, but I will tell about the issues I had. Animations can be pretty bad (dashing, for example, looks like absolute joke), and it doesn't stand out graphically with lots of frame-pacing issues. And the main character is just not very... heroic in his appearance. Kinda looks like Conan O'Brien at his teens. I encountered a ton of different glitches and I mean A TON. While they are mostly causing annoyance and hilarity, it really is jarring to look at. The level design can be okay at times, but mostly you'll be running along the same long corridors over and over again (there is no quick travel system). The map layout can be confusing as well, and it all comes around to the level design: the levels are simply too big or too clustered (and often times designed with ridiculous amount of convenience).

I respect the vision, but had pretty bad time with the actual product. The plot was surprisingly boring and predictable (and what a horrible way to tie Darth Vader into it right at the end. And as for the actual ending, what a waste of time the story was). The controls aren't intuitive and as the game is very similar to Souls-type of games in its design, I found myself pressing wrong buttons all the time. I guess you could say it's my fault, but this is a result of good control design that has been around for over a decade: I don't see much point in trying to go your own way here. If you're really running low on playing Souls-type games, I guess this gets a pass, but it's at the very bottom. You can tell they really tried to push all these ideas and tech into the game, but it just doesn't flow very well. Would not recommend.

Like it's not terrible, but not as polished and exhirating as Sekiro's combat. Also the PS5 patch is reaally buggy. I've had like Cal trapped in this attack/block animation and also had the framerate stutter around a lot. Movement doesn't always feel v fast/responisve too.

id actually give this WHOLE game like a 7.5 I had a tone of fun playign through it and really really liked it's story. But aye, absolutely needs some polish and more kinetic gameplay/lightsaber action.

Extremly boring, confusing and frustrating level design. Main character feels ok but side kicks just feels flat and not interesting. Also to much of the blockbuster one liners when it comes to the dialogue.

Star Wars games are almost their own genre and "Jedi: Fallen Order" is one of the better ones. It has more than the bare minimum of the look and feel of Star Wars, and that's likely enough for EA.

Star Wars games are almost their own genre and "Jedi: Fallen Order" is one of the better ones. It has more than the bare minimum of the look and feel of Star Wars, and that's likely enough for EA.

The game's controls and difficulty options are its weakest points. You play the slowest Jedi in the galaxy. Running, dodge rolling, and attacking are all super slow. This game follows the "Soulsborne" trend that we've seen in "God of War" and "Darksiders 3". (I don't like this trend.) You can't simply have fun swinging a lightsaber. Instead you have to perfectly time parries and then counter attack. Your Jedi is so slow, though, that the enemy might back step before you can counterattack and then you need to start the parrying process all over again. Sometimes the enemies will turn red and delivery an unblockable attack, so you can never truly get into a rhythm of timing. I think back to "Ninja Gaiden" on Xbox. It is a predecessor to Soulsborne games and was known for its incredible difficulty and boss fights. It was also really fun because the Ninja could really move. "Fallen Order" needed some moves like that. Even after playing the entire game, I never felt comfortable with the gameplay.

The difficulty in the game is right in the center of the difficulty debate. The game is set up as an unforgiving Soulsborne game that appeals to a large but still finite audience. The audience for Soulsborne games is not going to serve the Star Wars license. So Respawn added an "Story Mode". A newbie player may still die a lot, but the game becomes forgiving enough in Story Mode that most people will be able to finish it. (Even an experienced player might dial down the difficulty for a boss fight when the boss uses a lot of really cheap attacks.) But Story Mode is not a simple "win" button. The combat system relies on perfectly timed parries and counterattacks, and the enemies in Story Mode hardly ever attack. What the game really needs is a better combat system. If you have ever played an Arkham or Spider-Man game then you know there is a better way for enemies to signal they are going to attack. Curiously, the difficulty modes in "Fallen Order" shows you sliders for game elements that are turned down such as parry window, enemy aggression, and damage taken. Why not make these individual options? Some of us are just plain old. Our reaction times are much slower than a play tester in their 20s. Just give us a slider for "over 30", "over 40", "over 50", and "over 60".

The other side of "Jedi: Fallen Order" is the cinematic nature of the game or lack thereof. You might imagine "Uncharted" as a Star Wars game. Unfortunately, EA cut that project. At times, "Jedi: Fallen Order" looks like it was meant to be a cinematic adventure, like a playable Star Wars movie. (Really, isn't that what we all want?) Overall, though, the game is jam packed with bs video game elements. Saving is not automatic. You have to find glowing blue circles and then enter a save screen. If you regain health, all enemies respawn. (Is this the Sith power of creating life?) The game also relies heavily on "Metroidvania" style upgrades needed to progress into certain areas of certain levels that requires you traverse maps over and over. Panels for wall running hang about haphazardly as if the Empire used the lowest bid contractor for its bases. Some of the enemy banter is funny, but mostly its barks like "I'm gonn'a get you, Jedi!".

We know that Respawn turned this game around very quickly and very secretly. You can see that fast turn around time in game. The game world itself could be one long corridor. Stray past the invisible walls, and you will fall through the geometry. Even the outdoor areas are not really outdoors. The folks at Respawn did an excellent job of making the most with the time they had. But the game feels claustrophobic, and the Metroidvania elements make it repetitive. Along with the closed, Soulborne style combat system, progressing in the game is more of a chore than it should be.

As a PS5 game, this port is a big whiff. There is no use of the Dual Sense controller, little ray tracing, and the smaller scale areas and low enemy counts do not show off PS5's power. The loading times were also a bit longer than I've seen with PS4 games in boost mode. At least the frame rates were solid.

Full disclosure: I bought this game on sale for about $13. All-in-all, it is not a bad game for that price. I hope Respawn makes a better game for sequel, assuming EA still has license to make Star Wars games.

I'm loving the gameplay, the graphics, the combat and platforming is really great. The game is sometimes slightly buggy, but these can be ignored. The thing I'm really missing is the PS5 DualSense controls, there are some controller vibration, but so much more could have been done. All in all, the game is very enjoyable, but if you already played it on PS4, not much new to see in this port.

Played originally on PS4 and now going through NG+ on PS5. I wanted to chime in and give this game the praise it and the developers at Respawn deserve for creating a modern Star Wars experience that comes second only to the Mandalorian in capturing the Star Wars magic. Even this comparison may only be true because of the limitations inherit to being a last-gen video game and the amount of effort required to bring a story to life in a way comparable to the movies and shows is much higher. I think Star Wars video game fans can be harsh because of EA's handling of the series and yada-yada but Respawn clearly loves Star Wars as much as we do and for their FIRST entry in the series, they knocked it out of the park. People complaining about minor technical hiccups for
A LAST-GEN GAME, should play on PC in 8K so their brain can look past this and appreciate an awesome Star Wars game. The 60fps is a welcome addition and while it does drop at times, it's steady a good 95% of the time (hence 9.5 score), which I'll gladly take over the choppy 30fps experience on PS4. The only reason I give it a 9 is because I wish the game/story was longer but I'm really enjoying my NG+ playthrough on PS5. This game's great, Respawn is awesome, can't wait for the sequel.

The shoved the clunkyness of Gears of War into Bloodborne, and the result is frustrating. It seems impossible to find any rhythm in combat, you'll hear that alot. Bloodborne is my 2nd best game of all time, behind only The Ocarina of Time. Some annoyances:

    1. One of the most uncharismatic protagonists I've ever seen. If you look up the name "Buzz Killington" in a dictionary, you will most likely find a picture of this guy.

    2. The protagonist feels really clunky to control. I expected fluid motions and combat, considering how jedis and siths in the movies usually move, but this guy is about as nimble as my refrigerator.
He's also got what is probably the shortest dodge in the history of dodging. He literally just takes one baby step to the side (measuring maybe 8 inches/20 cm), which looks absolutely pointless and doesn't really get him out of harm's way at all.
He can also do a roll by double tapping the dodge button, but it's slow and annoying to use compared to single tap dodges.

    3. Extremely repetitive combat, even if you pick up all the skill upgrades in the talent tree.

    4. Enemies attack you with no regard for their own safety. Expect to have people firing rocket launchers at you from point blank.

    5. You can upgrade your lightsaber, but it's completely redundant. It could've been pretty cool if it would alter its stats, but it doesn't. All it does is change the appearance of the handle in various ways, but you can only see it in the game menu anyway, because it's so tiny and the protagonist is holding it at all times while you're playing.

    6. It's often unclear which way you're supposed to go. You're usually presented with several ways to go, but there's no indication which one is an optional route and which one is where you need to go for story progression. If you accidentally pick the correct one right away, you tend to get locked inside the next area, and all the other routes, with collectibles and whatnot, become inaccessible so you'll need to backtrack through the entire area again at some point later in the game if you want them.

    7. There's no fast travel, meaning you'll sometimes have to run back to the start from the end of a map you've already cleared, while also encountering all the enemies that have now respawned. No fast travel also means that coming back for collectibles you've missed becomes a tedious chore.

    8. You will fall down pits A LOT because you either got knocked down there by an enemy or because the character didn't move the way you wanted him to while trying to jump, wall run, etc.

These are just a few things I thought of off the top of my head. I might update this review with more later on, but I think I already got my point across in regards to what I think of this game.

Otherwise, that was not smooth enough if you leave the default options (I think that they should have put performance as the default option here...as the 30FPS ruined my first 2 or 3 hours with this game)

You will find in this game a few glitches, pop-ins, etc...but nothing too major. I found that there is some inconsistency in the graphics quality. A few planets look really good (Dathomir for example..), the characters clothes, textures are nice too. However, I remember that the grass, the plants were really low textures and seemed like ps3 graphics. Overall, graphics are average and even though it's presented as a PS5 version, we don't feel this way.

I give this game around 7,5/10 but it leans more toward a 7,4/10 so I won't put a 8 rating here. A few positive aspects to end this review:
    1. The game is not repetitive at all. There is a good balance between combat, exploration and puzzles.
    2. The sword combat is really well done and we have an interesting skill tree and upgrade system

Taking place after the prequel trilogy but before the original, playing as a Jedi in hiding with an adorable droid sidekick made for a really fun setting and one I was always happy to return to. Gameplay could be rough occasionally and not only because of its souls-like nature, but also because it was clear it was the developers first time making a game like this and struggled a bit with difficulty scaling. Exploration is also fun to an extent but no fast traveling was probably this game’s biggest drawback, as well as planet designs that are cool sometimes but quite bland other times. 8,6/10

Very, very beautiful game with strong gameplay side.
My recommendation is to play this game if you like souls like games but wanna try something chill or you are fun of Star Wars (and in this case you must try it)

How It Stacks Up: People call it a Souls-like, but it's quite different. Just compare the button layout, and you'll think it's more of a Metroidvania. More energetic, more puzzles, more cinematic, more platforming. PS5 port is nothing to complain about. 60FPS is a must for these types of games.

a good single player adventure story we all wanted for star wars games.
Cal became one of my favourite protagonist very soon.
story and connection to star wars universe is a good benefit for this game.
cal and B.D is a fine due.
    game-play & fighting with light-saber has a nice feeling.
i wanted more boss fights and harder enemies.

Overall I want to give this a 7+ but due to the lip syncing cut scenes and and lack of updates or patches from EA this gets a zero. Just a rushed clone of the PS4 game. This game has been out for almost 2 years now and still has sync issues. Waste of money even on sale for $20.

I'm not a fan of the franchise but I watched the movies before the game, I loved them but I'll talk about the game: Beautiful graphics, very good gameplay, very good combat and the story is beautiful. It is worth buying in my opinion.

Expand

Cameron Monaghan's brilliant and believable performance as Cal Kestis is also one of the highlights of this game, and he skillfully weaves one of the most relatable and likable characters since the original Trilogy.

Whether it is his strained relationship with his new allies, his diminished belief in his own abilities, his fear of the repercussions to others around him if he is found out - to his heartbreaking relationship with his friend Prauf (that is all too briefly cut short at the start of the game); Cal is the kind of unlikely hero you can't help but empathize with, and actually WANT to get behind and see succeed.

The cast of misfit characters around him are also as layered and broken, and in that you get a feeling that like the original Trilogy, you are watching them overcome their own limitations, fears, and baggage instead of simply existing from the start as some kind of Marry Sue or Comedic Punching bag.

This game was an extremely welcome surprise.

I was really excited for this game, but it just didn't hit the nice spot for me. The game has cool boss fights and really fun combat. The story however is not great, but I am still going to give Jedi: Survivor a try. This is a good game to pick up if you are looking for a game to play.

    Cons
    - to this day it is a bit buggy (infinite falling animations, getting turned around on slides if you land too close at the lip, audio desync)
    - higher difficulties shine a light on both the best and worst parts of the combat system

Fallen Order was one of the most surprisingly good games I've played. Taking the Star Wars license and running with it, Fallen Order is a fun new start to a franchise I hope continues for a couple of entries.

The star of the show is the combat. The lack of dismemberment and the lightsaber being more of a lightbaseball bat looks a little weird at the start but it quickly gets overshadowed by just how fun it feels to deflect blaster bolts and cut through anything that moves.

The best part of this system are the various boss battles and Purge Troopers, as they are specifically designed to play with your melee the best. The worst part of the combat are some of the gankier areas, best seen on Dathomir and Kashyyyk, as it is a genuine struggle to hold out against hordes. The worst part being the two double spider encounters on Kashyyyk, as they enjoy doing their unblockable jaw clamp half a second from each other, which means you are getting hit no matter what.

The various worlds you can explore feel massive. The metroidvania style of exploration where you have to come back to certain places after you unlock abilities and gear feels intriguing. And some of the worlds have fantastically hidden routes you can navigate all the way to various secrets and extra cosmetic pieces.

This is helped by one of the best maps I ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Showing you the various features where you can and can't go since you don't have the ability to continue in that direction is genius and led to me discovering a bunch of stuff myself.

When it comes to the story, it is a bog standard Empire bad, Jedi screwed, motley crew, yada yada Star Wars stuff. What saves this from being boring is the cast is pretty fun to listen to and empathize with. The performances put in by the actors feel natural and comfortable to see.

All in all, seeing EA on the box of a Star Wars game had me skeptical, but somehow it ended up as one of the more fun experiences I've had with Star Wars in years. Definitely recommend for anyone to pick this up since Fallen Order is just that fun.

The game is really pretty on a OLED screen. The lights from the sabers are popping, the different maps are well tailored and the graphic aspect is really really good.
I removed 2 points because the game isn't bringing new mechanics to the genre, and the combats are too spaced with "alright" enigmas in between.

The best Star Wars game in over a decade gets a revamp on PS5, and becomes a Forceful contender. Minor issues aside, Fallen Order shouldn’t be missed. [Issue#3, p.134]

The game is stunning to behold, but frame hitches are common – especially on the 4K option. The combat is exhilarating, but the jumping and sliding puzzles leave a lot to be desired. The end result is an experience that is decent at just about everything, and easy to recommend. But as good as Fallen Order may be, if you look backwards in time, it’s not difficult to find superior Star Wars experiences.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order finds its true home on PS5, with Sony's monstrously powerful hardware bringing out the most in Respawn's evocative visual design, all the while reminding us just how good the game is. Even in 2021, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars games of the last decade and this is by far the best way to play it.
