The Zone feels fully realized, with improved gameplay mechanics and a blend of beauty, horror, and mystique that was irresistible. The engaging story gave me plenty of interesting plot threads to pull at, and allowed me to alter the progression of the story in fascinating ways. The PS5 version has great features, and a year of updates has made HoC better for all players. In my opinion, this is the definitive way for new and veteran stalkers alike to explore the mysteries of the Zone.

Having braved the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone on Xbox last year, I was already won over by Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl's unique blend of first-person shooter, survival horror, and punishing open-world. But thanks to the PS5 version's bug-free, polished launch, notable graphical upgrades, and immersion-cranking DualSense integration, those feelings have been solidified.

For anyone drawn to open-world shooters, survival games, or atmospheric horror, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is an absolute must-play. It’s tense, beautiful, and deeply immersive, with a world that feels alive and unpredictable. Challenge, exploration, and narrative are balanced with skill, delivering moments of genuine fear, discovery, and triumph. On PS5, the game runs smoothly and presents the Zone in all its haunting glory. After experiencing it firsthand, it’s clear this is a major milestone for the series — a game that fully deserves attention and respect.

It can feel old-school and a little rigid at times, but it's also a game that burns itself into your memory. It's brutal and beautiful at the same time, and GSC Game World now has a worthy successor to the 2007 original.

When S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl clicks on all cylinders, the game is an atmospheric tour de force with a mysterious and unique story, haunting environments and enemy design and exhilarating gunplay. Add in industry leading sound design and a beautiful musical score and you’ve got the recipe for a great survival horror game. Unfortunately, erratic AI, some visual and performance issues, uneven voice work and a gruelling campaign length will put some players off. However, if you can look past these deficiencies you’ll fall in love with this truly unique game. I am in awe of how this game exists for developers in circumstances I cannot begin to fathom. Long live the Zone!

The DualSense controller adds a whole new layer of immersion, turning this into an unforgettable experience that will impress longtime fans just as much as those entering the dangerous stretches of Chernobyl for the very first time.

A year after it originally launched on Xbox Series X/S and PC, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has landed on PS5 thankfully in a much better state. A challenging open-world experience, this finally feels like it fulfils its potential, and on PS5 Pro it's a real treat thanks to stunning visuals and solid performance.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on PS5 offers a strong experience despite its flaws. It blends unforgettable survival atmospheres with moments of tension that the player feels personally with every step inside the forbidden zone. It may not be the complete experience many dreamed of, but it remains a world worth entering for those whose curiosity outweighs their fear and who have the patience to endure its brutality.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is a big game. The world is not only huge but stuffed to the gills with things to find and places to explore.

In a clearly more refined version compared to its original release, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is still heavy, cold, and brutal, knowing exactly what it intends to convey to its audience. The result of a complicated development process due to the context of its developers, it ends up reflecting an uninviting, almost old-fashioned pessimism, resulting in a deep, challenging, and complex game, but one that is also too raw and faithful to concepts that may not appeal to everyone.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has several strengths, such as an interesting story, a living world that invites you to get lost in it for hours, and an impressive visual presentation. However, it is also filled with numerous technical issues that genuinely undermine its achievements. Still, if you have enough patience, you may find a very entertaining game worth dedicating many hours to.

Even after a year, the PS5 version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is also frustrating. Perhaps the studio should have postponed the game by another two years to refine it. Despite the deep survival system, realistic shooting, and the beautiful atmosphere of its world, the technical issues, poor performance, and strange design decisions make the experience more frustrating than enjoyable, and the game fails to deliver on what the developers had promised.
