Apr 8, 2026Sigma Star Saga DX revives WayForward’s unusual blend of top-down exploration and shoot ’em up combat with a mix of charm and friction, offering a story-driven sci-fi adventure that feels both dated and strangely compelling. While its improved features help smooth some of the original’s rough edges, repetitive shmup segments, unclear progression, and heavy backtracking can test patience. Players willing to embrace its retro design philosophy will find a unique hybrid that still manages to stand out, even if it does not always fully come together.

Apr 6, 2026Sigma Star Saga DX is an interesting revival of a cool but flawed game. There's a lot I like in concept rather than in execution, but neither is it particularly bad. The combat and puzzle exploration can get a little long in the tooth by the time you reach the end of the game, but it's fun enough to be a worthwhile playthrough. It's a perfectly solid re-release that alleviates — but doesn't necessarily fix — the original version's worst flaws. If you're curious, it's well worth a shot, and if nothing else, it's a very cool experiment from a long-lived developer.
