Beautiful in its presentation and with a powerful protagonist: Hellblade 2 is a landmark in fantastic storytelling.

The wait was certainly worth it for PlayStation owners as Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced brings players the ultimate version of Ninja Theory’s sequel. Featuring some of the most impressive cinematic gaming moments outside of Naughty Dog, Hellblade II consistently astounds with its big moments of spectacle. A technical marvel with two great reasons to replay the game after the credits roll, it’s an essential purchase for all PlayStation owners.

Now that Hellblade II has arrived on PS5, there's no excuse not to play it. Especially since once you've finished the game, you can start again by activating developer commentary, which is also added for free on Xbox and PC, along with Photo Mode and the other improvements in this Enhanced Edition.

Easily the definitive version of the game, and the one I craved for since playing it the first time around, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced on PS5 is a triumph. Senua’s bleak, miserable, and absorbing Icelandic tale gets some excellent graphical upgrades and is a staggeringly beautiful with incredible levels of immersion, thanks to its audio-visual execution and exquisite performance and quality on PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was already a brilliant game when it launched last year, but this Enhanced edition makes it even better. Combat is notably improved at 60fps, and when playing on PS5 Pro it still looks phenomenal when playing at this higher framerate, too. Add in the challenging Dark Rot mode and the enlightening developer commentary, and you have the definitive version of Ninja Theory's best game yet.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced delivers one of gaming's most cinematic and immersive experiences, with breathtaking visuals, unmatched audio design, and thoughtful refinements, though its restrictive player agency and linear design may not appeal to everyone.

Hellblade 2 is also very impressive on the PS5, especially with the new performance mode.

I enjoyed another playthrough of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, this time in the new Enhanced edition. This version does not change the game significantly (although the new Performance Mode is cool), but it refines the game and adds new features and a new game mode, and it gives a whole new audience on PlayStation the opportunity to experience this brutal Viking story.

Playing Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 a year later, I am still incredibly impressed by the game’s performances, visuals, and attention to detail. The treatment of Senua’s psychosis as both ally and enemy is effective and unsettling. Looked at through the lens of a Soulslike or action RPG, Senua’s Saga will feel limited, but that’s obviously not the game’s intention. Still, swordplay can feel both brutal and imprecise, and there’s repetition in both the game’s pacing and structure. Performance on PS5 wasn’t always perfect. All that being said, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is a real achievement and one I enjoyed a second time. The inclusion of insightful developer commentary and other free updates for owners of the original on PC and Xbox should tempt players into a brand new playthrough.

If you haven’t played Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II before, you have a great opportunity to catch up right now – even if you don’t know the first part. The PS5 version runs nice and steady in Performance Mode, and the haptics level things up. However, keep in mind that this series has already let down many players – just because the stress is put more on the introspective narrative and artistic presentation than on the actual gameplay. But probably all of this is what makes Senua’s Saga so memorable and exceptional.
  12. The PlayStation 5 version of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced Edition looks fantastic and is the console version that offers the best performance for first-time users. The game itself fell short of my expectations in terms of gameplay, and I have to reiterate that, but they've added everything I wanted from an Enhanced Edition. Since we weren't expecting a remake of the game here, I wasn't disappointed at all. Priced at 1800 TL on the PlayStation Store, if you haven't played the game before or want to revisit it with the best console version, don't miss it. If I didn't know Ninja Theory makes such good action games, I'd pass on the "they can do this much," but I'm baffled by how the combat, which is excellent up to a point, becomes repetitive, undermining its replayability.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced Edition takes what made the first game great and expands on it in every way. The brutal combat and the exceptional visuals and sound design bring this world to life. Ninja Theory did a fantastic job of making you feel the despair and hopelessness of the world.

A visually stunning, emotionally charged, and narratively focused journey with intense combat and clever perspective-based puzzles, now improved with a flawless 60 fps mode, DualSense features, and extra modes; however, its linear structure, modest gameplay variety, and niche appeal mean it won’t satisfy those seeking more traditional action or puzzle depth.

Ninja Theory remains faithful to its vision by delivering a game that focuses far more on narrative and technical achievement than on action. The result is an experience that must be analyzed in parts: technically outstanding, yet lacking on the gameplay side. The Enhanced version could have introduced the improvements the game truly needed, without altering its identity. Instead, the additions feel more like secondary elements that add little to the overall experience. What remains for the player is a powerful story, rich in emotions and excellently told, guiding them from start to finish, now enhanced with a new permadeath mode and the option to play at 60 FPS. The confirmation of the same score given to the version released a year ago should not be seen as a strength of the title. As such, the game is recommended for those who have not yet played Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, while those who already experienced Senua’s second journey will find nothing new in the Enhanced version.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II delivers a phenomenal audiovisual experience on PS5. Its outstanding sound design and powerful visual portrayal of psychosis create a uniquely unsettling journey that’s well worth playing.

Senua's PS5 debut brings a lot of nifty improvements over the original release but suffers from the same limitations that held Hellblade II back from true greatness back in 2024.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is the best-looking game on the PlayStation 5 right now. The beauty of its graphics is jaw-dropping and helps enhance the emotional impact of its set pieces and carefully choreographed levels throughout its 6-hour story. The new features, such as developer commentary, 60 FPS, improved photo mode, and Dark Rot Mode, are great additions that improve the already fantastic base game and are enough to justify the investment. However, this sequel isn't a game for everyone, and those who have never played it should go into it with their expectations in check. It's a walking simulator focused on delighting its players through fidelity and cinematics, rather than having fun through its gameplay.

Hellblade II Enhanced on PS5 is proof that form can reach astonishing heights, yet emotional substance doesn’t always manage to recreate the miracle of a first encounter.

The Enhanced edition of Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 marks yet another PS5 debut for a former Xbox exclusive that sparked plenty of debate and can now be experienced by Sony console owners as well. Senua’s journey remains gripping and spectacular, ruthless and violent, masterfully directed and enriched by binaural audio. At the same time, however, it doesn’t strike as hard as it should have, leaving much of its gameplay potential largely untapped. The 60 fps? Great to finally have them, but they come at a significant cost in image quality.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced has one of the most impressive technical aspects of this generation, embracing photorealism in a commendable way. However, we are also faced with a title that has very noticeable pacing issues and lacks the impact of its predecessor.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is more enjoyable as a visual and auditory experience than it is to actually play. Even with new modes and a smooth 60fps mode the new Enhanced edition provides, the Ninja Theory sequel fails on two fronts: bad puzzles and repetitive combat. Despite that, you’ll never play anything else quite like Hellblade 2; the game’s very unique approach to the sensory side of video games is exquisite. It just about warrants playing entirely because of that.

Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga is a test of frustration. It’s rarely fun to play and the sagging story never merits giving it a shot. It may look jaw-droppingly stunning but don’t be fooled - there’s not all that much going on beneath the surface. If you’re a PS5 owner who loved the original game and have been waiting forever to get your hands on the sequel, you’d best do yourself a favour and play the first game again instead.
