RoboCop: Rogue City

This might be the best interpretation and adaptation of the RoboCop IP, as well as the greatest RoboCop game to date. Even though the gameplay can feel janky at times, Rogue City still offers a unique experience that you shouldn’t miss, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise.

Thank you for your cooperation Teyon, in delivering an awesome game. RoboCop: Rogue City is basically as good as it gets when it comes to licensed games. The bar for licensed games is normally set low, particularly by stuff like the recent King Kong and Lord of the Rings games, but RoboCop effortlessly shoots towards the stars like an OCP spacecraft. It's a shooter that delivers great, mindless fun, but, much like the first movie itself, has tons of hidden depth. In the immortal words of Bixby Snyder, "I'd buy that for a dollar"! And you should too!

RoboCop: Rogue City is the biggest surprise of the year, and one of the best shooters I've played in a long time. Fans of the franchise will delight in the story and world-building, all of which are completely loyal to the 1987 original.

Robocop: Rogue City is an argument that not only can licensing IP work well in smaller-scale games, but given the right combination of creativity and focus a more dormant IP can be especially effective. A property like Robocop does not have a clear position in pop culture right now, beyond the obvious late-80’s movie nostalgia. But the team at Teyon, with a combination of awareness and sincerity, definitely found one. I had so much fun blasting through waves of jabronis and laughing at Robocop’s earnest policing antics. In a crowded year like 2023, Rogue City is an unexpected gem.

Not a loveless licensing, but a real RoboCop game that doesn’t skimp on bullets or laughs.

Quite unexpectedly Robocop: Rogue City far surpassed our expectations. It really captures the essence of the first two films, offering a true sequel. Teyon managed to fully deliver the feeling of becoming Robocop.

RoboCop Rogue City pays homage to its source material like no other. A faithful recreation of a beloved character and world over 30 years in the making. At its core, it’s a fantastic over-the-top 80s action shooter but dig a little deeper and you’ll find a dark, dystopian tale of man and machine more relevant today than ever.

RoboCop: Rogue City managed to be one giant leap in the right direction for a property that could never find a proper footing in the video game space. It worked extremely well as a bridge to the 2nd and 3rd films and managed to provide an action packed romp for someone who is looking for your usual power fantasy experience. I hope Tayon gets a second crack at the guy and really lets loose without the confines of the two films holding them back. That and maybe put less cutscenes of Robo watching a car drive off…it happens more than you think. Otherwise if you’re a fan of RoboCop or are Robo-curious, you owe it to yourself to check out Rogue City…and yes spend more than a dollar when acquiring it (This was the best I could do in cramming that line in, anyways go pick up this game…I need to figure out how to do well in the shooting range).

A game that knows how to pay homage to RoboCop and bring us the nostalgia of the late 80's and early 90's, with spectacular action moments and other calm moments of investigation and patrolling, which will be like a dream for the most loyal fans and a good way to introduce this iconic character to new generations.

Even if you're not a fan of the retro film series, RoboCop: Rogue City is still worth your time due to its excellent gameplay and compelling plot, despite its lesser production qualities.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a faithful interpretation of the film that'll make you feel like a badass for cleaning up the streets of Detroit.

RoboCop: Rogue City is easily the best RoboCop game to date. That in itself isn’t exactly a high bar, but regardless of the quality of previous RoboCop games, the developers got this one right. They put a lot of time in studying the source material, cramming the game with references to the films. The story is interesting enough, but does suffer from uneven pacing. Spending time at the precinct between missions to attend to more mundane things can break the momentum, but does help make the character feel like an actual police officer and not just a rampaging killbot. The mix of exploration, conversation, detective work and shoot outs help make the game feel more cinematic which is appropriate since it’s essentially written as a sequel to RoboCop 2. In spite of the criticisms mentioned in the review, RoboCop: Rogue City is an enjoyable experience from beginning to end. As a continuation of RoboCop’s story Rogue City works well and is worthy of the time of any RoboCop fan.

RoboCop: Rogue City is an absolute blast of 80’s goodness from beginning to end. From the gorgeous visuals built in UE5 to the nailed-on Robo atmosphere, Teyon has poured a whole lotta love into this one and it’s paid off in spades. You’ll buy this one for a dollar. But please buy it for more than that if you can.

RoboCop: Rogue City may not boast the high production quality of a top level “AAA” videogame, but it’s more fun and shows more sincerity than most of them put together. What it lacks in polish it more than makes up for in its provision of fuss-free action with immensely satisfying weaponry alongside the occasional glimmer of witty writing. It’s nowhere near as beautifully satirical as the film from which it sprung, but it’s still made with clear love for the original, as well as a ton of sincerity...Can’t wait to see which movie this outfit gets its hands on next. Please do The Thing!

RoboCop: Rogue City is a worthy successor to Verhoeven’s 1987 masterpiece. There is no question that developer Teyon shot for the moon and hit the landing many times. The game may be technically rusty at times but it always surpasses those hindrances with exceptional, powerful gunplay that hearkens back to the best classic shooters. Executing on RoboCop‘s stark dystopian vision, Rogue City is violent, comic, and definitely serves the public trust.

It would have been easy to make another mindless FPS with this license. Instead, Teyon gave RoboCop: Rogue City a more thoughtful narrative with solid FPS combat and surprisingly deep RPG elements. It’s not a perfect experience. Players unfamiliar with RoboCop will find a wonderful action RPG but may be lost or overwhelmed by the narrative. But die-hard fans will find a respectful, entertaining entry in a beloved franchise. Regardless of where you stand, though, RoboCop: Rogue City is a hell of a game and an effort that warrants checking out.

Robocop: Rogue City is the closest thing you'll get to a good third Robocop movie and it plays pretty damn well too. If you're not a fan of the first film then this might not be for you but if you're a normal person, there's a lot to like about this game.

Despite a few things that might feel off, Robocop: Rogue City is likely the closest we'll ever get to the original movie. Like Murphy, the game sometimes malfunctions but ultimately gets the job done.

RoboCop: Rogue City may not have the expected level of polish, but it's undoubtedly an experience crafted by the hands of RoboCop fans.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a blast to play for long-time fans of the franchise and goes above and beyond to respect its source material. It won't win any awards for being ground-breaking, but Peter Weller offering his voice to a story that's arguably the best use of the RoboCop name since the original film makes this a worthwhile treat for those who want to be transported back to their childhood.

Every chapter of RoboCop: Rogue City gives players something interesting to do, an unexpected encounter to resolve, or a sly reference to decipher. The result is a great game that accomplishes everything an adaptation could wish for, breathing new life into its source material and setting a new high bar for the franchise.

Just like RoboCop himself, Rogue City is only human, but it’s still pretty great. With an intriguing narrative and stellar side missions, exploring Old Detroit is a real treat. Gunplay feels heavy, and engaging your friends and opponents with words as well as bullets is satisfying. In a year filled with blockbusters, this is a cult classic.

Fans of RoboCop are likely to love Rogue City, though it’s also likely to prove appealing to those who simply like shooting up bad guys with reckless abandon. Dealing out violent justice as RoboCop rarely struggles to put a smile on your face – even if, at times, it threatens to become a tad repetitive. Throw in some light investigation and some moments of humour, and you have a game that makes effective use of a much-loved IP.

Hopefully, updates will stamp out these issues because RoboCop: Rogue City provides a respectable adventure that feels like a long-lost shooter of the early 2010s in mostly good ways. Admittedly, the license carries the game through its rougher patches; if you’re not a RoboCop fan, the adventure may feel dated or buggy compared to other shooters. But as a B-tier love letter to the tin man in blue, Rogue City is a nice return to the limelight for Alex Murphy.

A successful bet for Robocop from the Teyon studio which offers us a pleasant spectacle, especially if we like the character and this 80's 90's period of American cinema. But make no mistake, Robocop is an ultra generic FPS, bordering on old school in its foundations, the game doesn't invent anything and people who only swear by the codes of the modern FPS will perhaps be disappointed. But the game has such a pleasant feeling that it is difficult to ignore its pleasure, especially since the game respects the license to death, and that must also be emphasized. It's violent, it's kitsch and it's even narrative, but we had a lot of fun in the 12/15 hours needed to finish the game. Because yes, this Robocop also has the delicacy of having a duration of very honest life for a narrative single player game.

RoboCop: Rogue City has several problems that consist more of a general lack of technical polish and the use of a dated overall game structure. Despite this, it respectfully delivers a good setting for a classic character, respecting the original material and with good doses of fun.

Bloody and crass, but also occasionally very human, Robocop: Rogue City is the most faithful adaptation of the movie universe we've ever had.

RoboCop: Rogue City surprises with beautiful and varied level design, fun shooter gameplay and nice detective quests. However, this is offset by wooden character animations, performance slumps in cutscenes and sound problems. The story stays too close to the movies and fails to add a memorable chapter to the RoboCop universe.

RoboCop: Rogue City impresses with tons of fan service, but is held back by half-baked technology.

Despite some shortcomings with the supporting cast and some slightly buggy AA technical hiccups, RoboCop: Rogue City is the ultimate RoboCop experience. Fans will get a lot of bang for their buck here since it is a shockingly lengthy game, clocking in over thirty hours. It is very authentic to the films and captures their essence, but lacks the courage to introduce fresh ideas. The developers have been very active in patching some of the glitches, so it stands to become a better experience as time goes on. Hopefully, they will implement a new game plus one day too.

RoboCop is dreadfully buggy but an obvious love for the licence plus some brilliantly realised shooting pushes aside any doubts you might have; it’s just FUN. [Issue#35, p.94]

RoboCop is a passionate and faithful addition to the franchise, but it's not without its flaws. While the gunplay gives you plenty of customization and is a whole lot of fun, the rest of the game lacks a bit on the content side. It is lacking some depth in its conversations, story telling and the game world also feels a bit empty from time to time. That, and the technical imperfections that are present during gameplay, prevent the game from being that true nostalgic banger.

If you are a fan of RoboCop, this title is a game that plays on the nostalgic string. The story is fine, the game is faithful to the source material, the firefights are fun and it is varied. At the same time, the game lacks real challenge, depth or speed, and it is not flawless technically either. Nevertheless, a fun title to play, especially for fans.

A highly enjoyable title for fans of the old saga, but unfortunately lacking in solid technical prowess and sufficient ambition to stand up to the competition.

Despite the poorly put together trailers and the lack of experience from Nacon’s side to promote games, Robocop: Rogue City could have been a good game. It has the potential to exceed any kind of expectation, if it launched as a finished game, rather than in this stage that can be described as still in development.

RoboCop: Rogue City is an old school shooter that aims primarily to entertain fans of the franchise, who will have the chance to fight crime in the role of the robotic vigilante. Teyon's new project is good enough to provide more than a dozen hours of fun, between gunfights and investigations to solve. Despite the use of Unreal Engine 5, the visual experience of RoboCop: Rogue City is not the best although the direct involvement of Peter Weller.

Whilst its core is that of a regular shooter, its fantastic production values and its love for RoboCop makes it a very fun game, particularly for those who enjoy the franchise.

It's a well-worn cliche at this point, but if you're a fan of RoboCop, then you'll find a lot to love in Rogue City. It's chock full of Easter eggs and manages to capture the look and feel of the first two RoboCop movies with excellent attention to detail, even getting Peter Weller to reprise his role as the eponymous hero. More than anything, it does a tremendous job of making you feel like RoboCop in its best moments. Combat is shallow because of this devotion to authenticity, but it excels when you're able to fully personify the relentless killing machine. It missteps when moving away from this, resulting in some dull firefights, yet these failings are mitigated somewhat by its embrace of a well-rounded RoboCop, regularly breaking away from the action for more nuanced moments of crime fighting. Rogue City might not be for everyone, but at least it's not RoboCop 3.

If you take it on its own merits, Robocop: Rogue City isn't exactly a great experience. The combat is simplistic, the mechanics are slapdash, and you spend as much time finding someone's lost towel as you do shooting bad guys. Despite all of that, it's oddly compelling. It's ambitious and charming enough that if you're a fan of Robocop, you'll probably find it appealing to take a trip in his robo-boots. I can't imagine it holding much appeal for anyone who isn't excited for the chance to revisit the iconic locations of the franchise, but die-hard fans will probably revel in it.

Even if Rogue City had started to rust a little towards the end of its lengthy campaign, its surprisingly in-depth shooting and roleplaying mechanics, love of the source material, and keen understanding of what makes RoboCop so great in the first place has made it one of the biggest surprises of 2023 for me. In a year full of absolute bangers, make sure you spend some time in Detroit.

A surprisingly competent attempt at making a lost sequel to the movies, with some excellent action and ambitious but flawed storytelling.

It could have been a by-the-books license shooter, an easy cash-grab for older players fans of RoboCop. But Rogue City is otherwise: it's not perfect by any means, and in fact there are a lot of much better choices on all of the platforms it lands on, but it's still a work of love from a small studio with a small budget.

Despite its flaws, Rogue City delivers what most fans of the franchise have been craving: a bloody, explosive throwback to the glory days of action. While it doesn’t do anything exceptionally well and has its fair share of frustrating mechanics, nothing is truly game-breaking. If you’re looking for a game that lets you feel like RoboCop, this is it—just don’t set your expectations too high.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a respectful and effective adaptation of the illustrious science fiction saga of the same name… nothing more and nothing less. The shooting game developed by Teyon and published by Nacon scrupulously applies the “old-school FPS” formula, not without trying to get off the beaten track with varying degrees of success. Ultimately, RoboCop: Rogue City will thrill fans of the franchise as well as all gamers looking for action from the 80s. Mission accomplished (or almost).

Eliminating hordes of criminals with the Auto-9 while the soundtrack of the original film plays in the background is certainly a satisfying experience for fans. Net of pleasant moments, born of nostalgia and located mainly in the first portion of the game, RoboCop Rogue City is a decent game, but not particularly solid as a whole. In fact, it shows the side of a series of technical and gameplay problems to which anyone who is not a die-hard fan of the most famous policeman in cinema will hardly be able to turn a blind eye.

While RoboCop does have some fun moments and enjoyable gameplay, it is, on the whole, a shallow, repetitive experience. Living the power-fantasy of being RoboCop does not save it from glitchy, rudimentary gameplay and a story that is too similar to the movies. If you love RoboCop like me, you may find something here to enjoy, otherwise, look elsewhere for your gaming goodness.

RoboCop: Rogue City does an admirable job of bringing the gritty universe of the films to life and of capturing the feeling of playing as the armoured enforcer himself. However, there are only so many cyberpunk lowlifes one can blast to bits before the repetition sets in.

Teyon blends bloody linear shootouts with light open world action for an entertaining, if unadventurous, RoboCop experience.

From the moment you fire up Robocop: Rogue City and see his cruiser’s bumper scrape up the ramp, it is clear who the game is for - if you’re a fan of the 1980s classic you’re in for a treat. Otherwise, the poor performance and uninspired gameplay make it hard to recommend the game to someone who isn’t already a fan of OCP's finest. One thing you can’t take away from Teyon is they have delivered a true-to-the-film Robocop experience, but whether you'd buy that for a dollar is up to you.

RoboCop: Rogue City faithfully recreates the classic character, but gives him nothing to work with. The narrative is dull, presentation is poor, and too many lackluster mechanics are shoehorned in. With unsatisfying action, this title is an empty metal shell of a game.

Robocop: Rogue City reflects its protagonist's qualities. It's well-built and robust, a few glitches aside, and capable of triggering explosive action. Yet it's also mechanical in its design, its dialogue slow and plodding, and limited in its forms of interaction. Short on engaging mission design and the film's punchy satire, Detroit's finest needs better backup to enliven this drawn out adventure.

There’s absolutely nothing in Rogue City you haven’t seen before, done better elsewhere.

The biggest crime here is, oddly, the faithfulness to the source material. On paper it makes sense and it does evoke the same feelings as the films, but it makes for a very frustrating experience that ends up being a bitter disappointment. When the worst part of your shooter is the shooting, then something went badly wrong.
