    Capcom delivered big time with this one. This game is fun, scary, campy, creepy and an absolute joy to play. Fantastic hub location, nice puzzles, varied and fun combat, a story that keeps you engaged and spectacular graphics. The game keeps throwing new things at you and never gets repetitive. I believe this will appeal to old and new fans alike, there are jump scares, backtracking, greatCapcom delivered big time with this one. This game is fun, scary, campy, creepy and an absolute joy to play. Fantastic hub location, nice puzzles, varied and fun combat, a story that keeps you engaged and spectacular graphics.     This is Resident Evil firing on all cylenders, while the series hasnt really mised a beat in a while RE8 feels like a contender with the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 2 OG. They have hit the sweet spot with this game, that perfect ballance that only a few horror games in history have achieved. RE 7 was an amazing game IMO it was already up there with the best horror games. RE 7 was an amazing game IMO it was already up there with the best horror games. It had the Atmosphere and setting that made for a Masterpeice. I am Happy to say Capcom has made Lighning strike twice with RE8V. Its got everything 7 had with an awsome new setting and even some improvments. The bigest improvment is combat, its more previlent and always keeps you on your back foot. I hear alot of new horrors fans claiming combat takes away the fear in these game and they want all horror games to be these walking simulators we got dozens of this generation. That is rubish. Combat is an intregal part of true survival horror. Go back and play the OG resident Evil and Silent Hill.games they are full.of shooting. It just that later games were larger so there was more of everything including enemyencounters.
    The trick is to ballance the combat. Ammo conservation, lining up the shot and positioning is what builds tension in true survival horror. Not just jump scares and mountains of blood and gore.
    If you run from an enemy because runing is the only mechanic at your disposal, that to scary, thats not tension. When you run because you cant trust your self to line up a shot due to low ammo , your location being to constictive and the heaviness of the situation, thats true fear and tension.
    I really wish people would stop making statments like combat in survival horror makes it just like COD. The last 8 years have been terible for horror all we have got is walking simulators. The RE games are the last games staying true to the genre. Just let us have these games.. If you truly cant understand the nuances and complexities between the different controls and mechanics in diferent genres, do you really need to give an opinion.. There plenty of walking simulators for those that want them.    … Expand

    This is the best RE game since 4, I said it.plus the replayability is so good and provides additional benefits for it. Definitely the most repayable of the REs IMO. My only complaints were a terrible boss out of... At least 5 not including a ton of minibosses. The puzzles that were a staple being made easier is disappointing, and hot tall lady is not the coolest/best in the    *Spiler free*

    Everything i wanted from a new Resi it's there, incredible atmosphere, fantastic variety of enemies and bosses, game looks and sound asolutely fantastic on PS5, BRAVO capcom, this is THE best RE since RE2, i'm already dying to play Resi9!!!

    Great game. GAMEPLAY. The game could easily be divided in chapters. Some chapters are very similar in gameplay to what is expected from RE. Others are more action heavy. And others are purely stealth and exploration (like PT, you don’t even have guns). In other words, it is not action oriented as other reviews lead you to think. LENGTH. In one play through you will never be walking theGreat game. GAMEPLAY. The game could easily be divided in chapters. Some chapters are very similar in gameplay to what is expected from RE. In one play through you will never be walking the same endless areas nor doing the exact same thing or fighting the same enemies, it is not padded for duration. In my first play through I clocked in at 18 hours. Then played 12 hours to obtain SS rank on Mercenary modes. Then played 40 hours to platinum. Also I spend one more hour enjoying the art and models and clips unlocked on finishing the game. The HIGHLIGHT of the game play is the huge amount of bosses and the enormous enemy variety, great mechanics utilizing PS5 adaptive triggers, ray tracing, HDR, 4K and most of the time 60 fps. All of these make the game a joy to play. As in most Japanese games, there is no political agenda in it, so that is another welcomed point.     RE village is a great game. If you rush trough the story it might feel like a short game but there is enough to explore. Personally I prefer a shorter great game than those long-winded 100 hour+ games. I would recommend this masterpiece to everyone who likes horror.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really cannot remember one thing that was bad in this game. This and RE7 are masterpieces, they are both equally good on its own way. Before i started my playtrough, i read from a lot of people that it is more action game than horror. But i wouldn't agree. The game has some REALLY scary moments. All the villains,enemies and sub bosses are perfect. Heisenberg voice actor did a great job, i must mention that. Also, the enemies from his area are creepy, especially Sturm Soldat. House Beneviento had the creepiest atmosphere in the game. But, oh my God, the deatils in this game. I am from Serbia, so our villages (Eastern Europe) are tottaly same like in the game. I really felt like it is some old village in my country. It is so detailed, every brick, every tree, every muddy road. After i finished the game, i closely watched concept art images a 3d figures of the characters, and that i realised indeed how it was detailed. I see that a lot of work and love was put into this game by the developers, so i appreciate that, i can't give nothing bellow a 10.… Expand

    Up to date, on point but still a resident evil.

    Great Character design and graphics.

    Contains the best mechanics from past resident evil games and also adds a few new ideas. Definitely a best of with the spirit of resident evil 4.

    In my opinion, this title is probably one of the most refined Resident Evil games to date and it makes me wonder where Capcom is going to take the franchise next. Gameplay-wise, RE8 feels much more fluid in its movement compared to RE7, with the weapon-swapping similar to Doom Eternal.     As the story goes, it is the continuation of RE7's story where you play as Ethan Winters. Personally, I enjoyed the story but I feel that it came off as a little cliche. But hey, that's the charm of the Resident Evil series though.

    What a game ! Tense, action packed & beautiful. Had me on the edge of my seat the majority of my play through and was filled with a multitude of different landscapes and enemies ! some truly epic boss fights too boot !

    I've just finished the story and I can only say one thing. Must have game with amazing atmosphere, characters and story. Probably the first resident evil I'm gonna replay again. I loved Biohazard, but I think Village is a piece of art delivered to us by Capcom

    The plot is AWESOME, in my opinion. The gameplay gradually ramps up and makes you feel powerful towards the end, while also still making you feel helpless because of how many    I don't leave reviews. Ever.     All of the characters are interesting and I'm glad there is mystery behind many of the characters, while giving you enough to understand what their motives are.

    Man, and the 'family above all else' narrative is pretty sweet, in both a cool way and a heart felt way.

    This game is scary, but there is a specific part of the game that is pure psychological horror and it's scary as hell.

    Uh, just buy it, ok? I am giving this a 10/10 because of replayability and I really do believe the game is all around great.

    Resident Evil Village is the best Resident Evil game I have ever played. From the atmosphere of the Village to the level and Art design of the Castle. Everything feels masterfully thought out, and it is accompanied by a fantastic story at it's core, with Ethan Winters' story being wrapped up in a satisfying way. A must play for all Resident Evil fans, old and new.

    Take the best parts from R4 and R7, add inspiration from P.T., Alien Isolation, Silent Hill - mix all together with great maps design, unexpected turns in story plot and a lot of unique enemy types - this is a recipe of RE8 success.

RE8 just perfectly balanced between horror and action .when you killed dozens of Lycians ,then be ready cause the big tall vampire lady is chasing you and there is nothing you can do except running away from her. every 10 minute it has surprise under its sleeve . the    9.75/10

    For me I would give this game 90. without a doubt. It's definitely better than 7. I like Resi 7. But Village has the better epic Boss fights. More enemies.The locations are better and scarier. Only thing is the second half of the game that become a little bit to much action. And that    Three words. Booombastic, phenomenal and if you love the resident evil 4 game you will love this one. 100%

    This is a Must Play. One of the best Resident Evil in the franchise. Shares the podium with RE4 and RE7 and the top 5 with RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake also. Of course RE1, RE2 and RE3 are among the best but they did not aged well, RE4 did.

    In a word, incredible! This game blew me away the first three hours had me in my seat and comletely immersed! This game is freaking amazing!! I am a huge Resident Evil fan but I fell off at RE5, I could not stand the buffed up characters and the emphasise on action. RES 7 blew my mind and RES 8 has gone even farther. Beautiful, smooth, great responsive gameplay and I am looking forward to diving in again tonight. As a side note I bought it on PS4 because there are no PS5 in MO. but the graphics and performance has really, REALLY impressed me. It looks better than almost any game I have ever seen on PS4!     Really had a lot of fun playing this game. Best resident evil for me up there next to re4 and I played them all. Loved the characters the story and how enjoyable it is. Will definitely go new game plus and jam the online reverse as well as mercenaries. I think you get a lot in one game with all these features.

    Just one more good game in RE Universe. If you played RE2/RE3 remake or RE7 you know what it's all about - there are no big changes. Two minor but important changes: more humor and more action. As for me I'd better give more time for Dimitrescu castle as it's probably the best part of the game but diversity is good as well.

    Creepy atmosphere is totally leaking out from the screen and this is what people love.
    Beautiful visuals, amazing depressing sounds and freaky story forces me to keep playing.

Rather than gross mold monsters, you’re faced with lycans and vampires amongst otherResident Evil Village is a perfect successor to Biohazard in every possible way. From the beginning you’re thrown into a wonderfully haunted environment with inspirations of classic horror stories like Dracula and Frankenstein, which is a much more charming approach than a rotted house in the south. Rather than gross mold monsters, you’re faced with lycans and vampires amongst other classic horror enemies as you explore a much more open area that is the village and its surrounding areas. The greatest stride this game made over the previous was characterization. Not only is more depth added for Ethan and the cast of good guys, but all the villains feel much more meaningful than the Baker family. You find yourself remembering their names, wanting to know their backstories, and always getting excited to see what happens when you find them. Right from the start of the game the plot explodes and you’re completely sucked in to the beautifully designed castle and the villains who wander it, but once you leave the castle the game makes you feel like only then did the game truly begin, and that’s an incredible feeling.
    Every second spent exploring this game is a feeling of curiosity and intrigue, keeping your guard up for any new enemies that may be around a corner they were not in before. While I wish it was possible to backtrack at certain points, I loved always having new places to go and things to do. Even the collectibles are fun to find. The story certainly carries this by giving you new and interesting characters along the way, leading to a conclusion that’s immensely satisfying and makes me excited for what comes next. Simply put this game is a work of art, from wonderfully written plot and dialogue to beautiful imagery and environments, and a level of masterful and suspenseful storytelling that always made me come back excited to play more. But where others (for example AC Valhalla) bored me to death with their empty interchangable characters and story, Resident Evil 8 shines with a quality experience. Particularly that grotesque cabinet of well written and acted characters, the villians could be taken straight out of a Tim Burton movie. Not to mention the pacing and plot twists, which i didnt expect at all to be that compelling. All in all definitly a memorable Adventure.

    The graphics, oh my god, the graphics. I have rarely found myself wondering in awe at a Game that much. For me Resi 8 joins the ranks of Horizon Zero Dawn, Control, Cyberpunk, Tomb Raider and AC Odyssey/Valhalla. (I know there are more, but those were the most stunningly looking that Ive acutally played). Its not only that the textures, the lightning, reflections and all the technical shenanigans are great, but its the balance of light, shadows, coloring, reflections etc. that makes this game truly shine. Capcom managed to find the sweet spot to set the perfect tone for Ethans second Journey through the Marcabre.

    The sound design, for me is always the special child. From the roaring of the beasts or the sound of the guns to the little rustles, snaps, creaks and cracks. All those litte details that were added, Capcom absolutely nailed it. I found myself all too often cramped up in my chair holding my breath in tense situations, to a good portion thanks to the superb sound design and muscial composition.

    Last but not least, the gameplay. For the most part Resi 8 follows the same phases. Get to a new area, kill boss, explore for extra loot, upgrade stuff, repeat. Sounds simple,.. and, well it is. But you dont really need much innovation, when the structure you built is filled with Quality content. E.g. the balance of loot and currency/treasure for upgrades. I never felt having an excess of either, but also never felt like there was an all too threating shortage as long as i played it smart (on Standard difficulty). This kinda stands symbolic for the whole gameplay experience. Also got to mention, in my almost lifelong career as a gamer i have probably killed a thousand bosses, but after some of resi 8`s bosses I was just smiling, thinking:"F**k, that was awesome.." Capcom has to have done something right achieving this. I guess, its a mixture of all the things ive stated above.

    Conclusively, Resident Evil 8 follows a simple recipe, but a simple recipe done right.. and that all the way. The sound, gaphics, story, map, riddles, gunplay etc... the whole feeling of it. And sadly nowadays you have to state that (at least in my exp.) they did it bug free. *looks over at CDPR with visible dejection*    … Expand

    RE surprised me for the 8th time again, the graphics, gameplay, story on the highest level, maybe some monsters in here like werewolves and others look a bit weird, but I must say, it is still very amazing, I'm looking forward to seeing what next awaits us in 9th part

    This game deserves and even higher rating than it got. I loved 7 but this is a step up even from that. So much more to do in this game than I originally thought. Replay value is high in my opinion. Easily one of the best RE games, I’m excited for what’s next.

The game is not just a shooter as many people have assumed it to be, it has taken inspiration from a lot of things that re4 did right including the merchant system which feels really well done an. Also , hunting for animals and resources is extremely satisfying with the bonuses they give to health and movement. There are many horror elements, including the peculiar looking monsters and let's not forget, the terrifying fetus from the Beneviento house. Many such moments filled with suspense and horror. Characters are fantastic including lady dimitrescu, who unfortunately exists for 15% of the game. Each area is filled with unique treasures and resources which you could sell to the Duke to earn hefty amounts of coin. This coin can be used to upgrade weapons and buy critical resources for survival. Backtracking hence feels fun and rewarding. Every location is uniue and brings a new foray of enemies which get tougher throughout the game. The game's story is a tad bit hard to comprehend but sets the base fort he future resident evil games. 13+ hours easily taking all the treasures and backtracking. Plus the mercenaries mode makes this game worth every penny… Expand

Also this game Follows the RE4 forumla SO well, Legit a RE7+RE4 love child.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 9 hours and 30 minutes and 420 gamerscore, I was done with the latest Resident Evil offshoot. Folks, great for me, I had so much fun with it and even started the game all over again. To classify: so far I have played Resi 2 (8/10) and 3 Remake (7/10) as well as Resi 7 (9/10). For me, Resi 8 has sat on the throne of this series.

    story
    The game is still quite fresh, so I won't write much about the story (including some spoilers), except that I liked the whole process around Ethan Winters, I was very happy with the twists and turns and was sometimes surprised. This cabinet of horror curiosities that you face, the fantasy setting brought a change for me that I found terrific.

    The individual characters do their part, especially Lady Dimetrescu has been shown excellently.

    I just felt it was a shame that it was over a bit quickly with the good lady and her daughters, they were just used for the beginning and I always ran right intuitively, which is why I got through relatively easily. The facial expressions, gestures and dialogues of these vampire ladies were wonderful and I wanted to see more of them.
    But the other members of this gang also had their moments.

    The game looked really great. The setting fits me perfectly and it ran smoothly on the Series X. I actually had no noticeable frame rate drops, although sometimes a lot can happen on the screen. The selected landscape, the various facets of the individual areas, create a coherent and well-designed overall picture for me. Every now and then I stopped for the photo mode (unfortunately it wasn't that great, somehow the pictures sometimes looked strange) and marveled at the landscapes or just the inner workings of the houses, the castle, etc.

    There is a lot of love for detail here and one or the other Easter egg can also be found.

    Atmospherically, it was also successful for me, because the horror parts also exude real horror for me, but perhaps could have been a little more.

    Gameplay

    So first of all I have to say that Resident Evil is incredibly varied (horror, Mr. X gameplay, puzzle passages and skill passages, pure action). But I can understand if some e.g. the horror aspect was neglected. To be honest, that was enough for me and after this very specific part of the game I was exhausted.

    That breathed pure horror.

    The start of the game is as crazy as it is ingenious, I just sat with my mouth open in front of the PC and couldn't believe what I was seeing: Werewolf people who ride horses and shoot with a bow and arrow.

    The first half of the game is also very different from the second half and I personally found the gameplay change to be quite successful. Especially after the turn mentioned, the game briefly takes on completely different forms. It is precisely this point that will probably split people's minds (if not a little earlier in the factory).

    Each of the individual opponents gets their moment and all of them are consistently interesting. Just the introduction of all of these was phenomenal.

    We also have the classic Resi weapon game play, which is a bit sluggish, but also wants to be that way. I got along with it, but I probably wouldn't have made it higher than normal. The ammunition in particular is pretty precisely measured towards the end. The inventory was incredibly pleasant and was a significant step up from Resident Evil 7. The dealer was also a lot of fun and the upgrade system was very motivating (I love the revolver, unfortunately I never really had a lot of ammunition for it). The weapons themselves are very well chosen, I have actually tried everything and did not find any weapon to be useless. I also used mines, bombs, firing flour to distract, and so on.

    So the action turned out very well for me and got even better later. In addition, the game offers some intermediate bosses, where you really have to use all means to combat.

    There are also puzzles and smaller mini-games, but they were all pretty easy, I have to admit, and could have been a bit more challenging. The classic texts for reading should of course not be missing and I tried to absorb everything.

    If you play the game through then you have the opportunity to unlock some things for further rounds of the game. There is a mercenary mode in which you simply have to eliminate opponents in a certain amount of time. Not particularly exciting but the bonuses that can be unlocked are worthwhile: There's a damn lightsaber available as a double blade 5/5.

    I only have to criticize the level of difficulty, which was actually suitable for me on normal (also had problems) but the lock was way too easy. Also, some boss fights were a bit boring because they just endured a lot.

    Conclusion

    I have so little to criticize here because I just had too much fun with Resident Evil Village. I can certainly understand when certain decisions by the developers are not considered to be good, but I always had fun. For me 10/10 Mushrooms    … Expand

    I do not like The zombie's tales, but this has a immersive atmosphere and makes you fell a constant tension with puzzles and combats again wolfmen and black criatures. One of the games I have played I like more.

    Similarly to Resident Evil 4 back in the day, Village will attract a new generation of players and redefine the franchise for the modern age. I guess it’s time to stop looking back and counting on the series to return to its roots. Capcom is well aware of those roots and willingly draws from them to create something new but still infused with Resident Evil’s spirit. Village is not perfect, but neither was RE4, and once again it’s easy to turn a blind eye to the flaws, because overall it’s an amazing game. [07/2021, p.56]

    Resident Evil Village feels like such a culmination. Bringing together elements from the franchise all the way up to now and crafting what looks to be the next step of survival horror, it embraces every aspect of the franchise. While the insidious dread of Resident Evil VII is missing, there are still plenty of scares. The monster designs are fantastic, from the generations undead, the fury of the Lupine beasts, to the towering monstrosities. It's well worth delving into the concept art and 3D models to enjoy them fully. The story is just the right amount of silly with the terrifying, and the odd dash of the surreal. The combat is smooth and fluid, best evidenced in the addictive Mercenaries mode. All of these elements added together make quite possibly the best Resident Evil to date, and a foundation for a fresh new generation of terror.

    RE: Village is a mixture of almost all previous Resident Evil elements, making the most of both survival horror and puzzle intensity, but with the primary stage being left for the more action-like nature of Resident Evil 4. It has some great story moments, sprinkled with a few lacklustre characters that are still overshadowed by its most notable characteristic – most detailed environment to date.
