Sep 26, 2023Separate Ways is so good that it makes other Resident Evil games look worse by comparison. It’s hard to believe that this campaign was only $10 when Resident Evil 3 Remake, a game of similar length yet far less satisfying, was full price just three years ago. It’s even more surprising that just last year we were playing Shadows of Rose, a lightweight, uninspiring retread of Resident Evil Village that similarly tried to make old locales feel new again, but failed to match the quality of the base game. Separate Ways is more like a Resident Evil 2-style parallel campaign than a bonus DLC, and it’s been given the level of polish and care it deserves. Separate Ways has always been essential to the RE4 experience, but the remake elevates it to the quality of a standalone Resident Evil game. And at just $10, it might be the best value in gaming this year.

Sep 25, 2023The Resident Evil 4 remake Separate Ways expansion is a flawless DLC, and serves as a valuable and engaging conclusion to the Las Plagas saga. Capcom has done the entire remake of Resident Evil 4 right from top to bottom. Stepping into Ada’s high heels and grappling from rooftop to rooftop feels exhilarating and refreshing as we get to peek into her side of the story. Now I want a full game with just Ada alone! After all, who doesn’t love her?
-
Sep 25, 2023Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is the perfect excuse for you to boot up the game again, with over 5 hours of sublime content from Ada's POV.
-
Sep 22, 2023More than a bonus: The Separate Ways DLC is a real conclusion, the icing on the cake, a Best Of CD that invites you to a final Resi4 tour and is generous with deleted content.
-
Sep 26, 2023A superb DLC that remains on the same, excellent level as the Resident Evil 4 remake. In terms of gameplay, Ada's adventure mixes elements that often speed up the pace a bit with others that fit perfectly with the espionage nature of the protagonist. Narratively speaking, Separate Ways expands on the original story and reveals new details that will delight hardcore Resident Evil fans.
-
PLAYNov 23, 2023Smartly building on the design of the base game to offer new challenges, this snappy six-hour campaign is a wonderful addition and testament to the future. [Issue#33, p.93]
-
Nov 17, 2023The biggest selling point for me with the Separate Ways DLC is how much I wanted a game centered around Ada and her mysterious story. We always get her with background plot points and the story has indeed aged like fine wine, but still so little is known about her. I feel Resident Evil 6, which I hate to talk about, gave her the most screen time, but I think it’s time. If this remake and the DLC is any indication we are in for a solid remake of the next game or sequel in the series. I’m looking forward to it regardless as always.
-
Nov 2, 2023Separate Ways is easily one of the biggest budget add-on expansion packs to release this year, adding more high-quality content to the already stacked 60+ hour package of Resident Evil 4 (2023). For AUD $15, it’s honestly a no-brainer if you enjoyed the base game and want more survival-horror goodness to enjoy (and a sneak peak at where this reboot Resident Evil universe is heading).
-
Oct 24, 2023The remake of the additional campaign for Resident Evil 4 brings enough novelty to make you return to this fantastic action survival horror and follow the story from a different angle with the legendary Ada Wong. A couple of new locations, bosses and mechanics are reason enough to spend a few more hours in the best Resident Evil remake yet.
-
Oct 5, 2023Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is a DLC that is very much worth purchasing, making very welcome additions to the combat and story that make it feel like an excellent add-on and not just more of the same. In addition, it lays the foundation for what awaits this beloved Capcom franchise.
-
Sep 29, 2023Separate Ways expands upon what was already a great product with the Resident Evil 4 remake, but it also introduces new features into the series that I hope will be carried over into new entries. Resident Evil 4 is already a must-own game for fans of survival horror and now that this version of Separate Ways has entered the fray, it’s elevated the remake to new heights. Oh, and I think it’s time for Ada Wong to have her own fully-fledged game.
-
Sep 29, 2023Separate Ways is a fantastic addition to the Resident Evil 4 Remake that is packed with great bosses, a new spin on familiar locations, and some meaningful narrative progression.
-
Sep 29, 2023Separate Ways kicks off in style and doesn't let up until the end. A great addition that should have been part of the game from the beginning, but for its price pays off many times over.
-
Sep 28, 2023If Resident Evil 4 is a crown, Separate Ways is the jewel that complements it, and thus we can close this arc that will probably lead us to a new version of the fifth main game of this franchise.
-
Sep 28, 2023Separate Ways is a great expansion, bringing an additional campaign to one of the best titles of 2023. In addition to completely reinventing the mode from the PS2 era, the DLC brings new features to the gameplay and manages to deliver a complete package when we take the base game into account.
-
Sep 27, 2023Capcom once again listening to fans, Separate Ways is a perfect accoutrement to the well-handled Resident Evil 4 remake. It’s linear, sure, but it hits all the right beats to make players want to go back to Leon’s presidential daughter rescue mission. Albeit from a higher perspective.
-
Sep 27, 2023Separate Ways is a fantastic addition to Resident Evil 4 Remake and really cements its place as one of the series’ best. Add in some unexpected nods to wider aspects of Resident Evil lore and you have a DLC that works both as extra content to the main game and wider fan service too. If you enjoyed the RE4 Remake then this DLC is pretty much an essential purchase.
-
Sep 25, 2023The relationships between the remake of Resident Evil 4 and the original game would be a subject of much heated discussions in the coming years. But if anything could be said about this new version of Separate Ways is that it's a major step up from its 2005 counterpart in pretty much every way.
-
Sep 25, 2023An excellent DLC, which takes the original content and reworks it for greater overall cohesion, embellishing everything with mechanics tailored for Ada.
-
Sep 25, 2023Separate Ways is the DLC we didn’t know RE4 remake needed, and it’s up there with the best DLC content we’ve ever had for a Resident Evil game. It’s a bit of a shame that this side-story of the original game was carved out to be paid DLC, but when the package is this good, it’s hard to moan. If you enjoyed Resident Evil 4 remake, then Separate Ways is an absolute essential.
-
Sep 25, 2023Fleshing out the story of Resident Evil 4 while adding new mechanics and challenges, Separate Ways is everything you could ask for in an expansion. But what’s really impressive here is just how much there is to it. This is an essential purchase for any Resident Evil fan, offering yet more intense encounters and atmospheric bouts of exploration. Capcom could have just called this in, but instead it’s delivered an offering that’s better than some full games. Indeed, we’re left wondering if we prefer this to the actual main campaign of Resident Evil 4. That’s how good it is.
-
Sep 25, 2023Leaving aside the discussion about whether this DLC should have been included in the base title, Separate Ways has all the weight to be a robust game on its own. While the story and the entire context is tied to Resident Evil 4 Remake, it offers us a new experience, with a completely different character, with improved and expanded gameplay, and with a very high difficulty in direct response to the dynamics it handles. Capcom's hand is felt in every section, and there is no doubt that we are in front of a Resident Evil with all the letters. In today's times, having a DLC in which you can invest up to 6 hours, is something very remarkable and appreciated. As part of the saga, there is no doubt that we are facing a proposal that no fan should miss.
-
Sep 24, 2023Nitpicks aside, Separate Ways is a mostly tremendous addition to the Resident Evil 4 remake and, along with The Mercenaries mode updates that were released for free, goes a long way in making the RE4 remake experience truly complete. Some may still not be happy that Separate Ways is a $9.99 DLC instead of being packed-in with the game like it was in the post-GameCube versions of the original Resident Evil 4, but this version of Separate Ways is a fundamentally different experience and one that surpasses its predecessor in every possible way.
-
Sep 24, 2023Separate ways is additional content that is more of a complete game than a simple DLC. Its rewrite, the new gameplay features, particularly linked to the grappling hook and the IRIS system, offer the game a much larger dimension, with an atmosphere that is still just as incredible. The investigation sequences with a tasty atmosphere, the new well-thought-out puzzles, the surprises and the nervous gunfight sequences are here the ingredients of an explosive recipe.
-
Sep 22, 2023A very welcome slice of DLC that is just as enjoyable as the main game and helps flesh out a fan favourite character with their own unique abilities and agenda.
-
Sep 22, 2023The Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC is a polished piece of fan service that delivers the promise of the original DLC, and more.
-
Sep 21, 2023Separate Ways is a worthy counterpart to Resident Evil 4's fantastic story, providing an excellent remix of both new and familiar locations, and its breakneck pace of pitting you against excellent adversaries never leaves room for a dull moment.
-
Oct 12, 2023How can we make something that's already pretty perfect even better? Thankfully, we don't have to look very far, because Separate Ways is the perfect ending to Resident Evil 4 Remake. The cool thing about Separate Ways is that it doesn't waste its time on drawn-out scenes that get old, or on gameplay mechanics that become boring in the long run. Instead, it focuses on giving you a different style and pace of play that's not totally different from Leon S. Kennedy's, so you really feel like you're playing as Ada Wong.
-
Sep 27, 2023The DLC functions as a fun extension of the main game but isn’t one to play in lieu of the primary adventure. But any excuse to play more Resident Evil 4 remake is one I am eager to attach my grappling hook to and fly toward.
-
Sep 24, 2023Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is exactly what fans wanted from the Ada Wong-focused story. It improves on the original, giving more depth to the protagonist’s character and progressing her narrative. The acrobatics of the special agent opens up new gameplay options which allows the heroine to latch on to ledges and superkick enemies. While you don’t have complete freedom with the grapple gun and the runtime is short, there are no wasted moments which makes Separate Ways a joy from start to finish.
-
Sep 25, 2023Sure, it's remarkably similar to the base game in many ways, but Ada's adventure finds its own course, one that enriches the core experience and offers some explosive, remarkable fights.
-
Sep 25, 2023Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways is a must-play if you wish to fully understand this insane narrative. While the voice-over never gets better, the experience ends up being truly worth it. If you want more Resident Evil 4, you’ll get all of that and more in this DLC. The jury is still out on whether it should have been premium DLC, but for the amount of content here, I feel like it adds to the greatness of Resident Evil 4.
-
Sep 22, 2023The Resident Evil 4 remake is so good that Capcom really could have rested on its laurels and developed a cheap DLC that would have been fine at worst, but they put the work in.
-
Sep 22, 2023Larger and more ambitious than the content from which it originated, Strade Diverse is the perfect excuse to return to the world of the Resident Evil 4 remake. Whether it is to discover the new plot implications, or the way in which Capcom has given more value to the grappling hook and reinterpreted some prominent creatures, any fan of the series should experience this thrill ride, also given an absolutely accessible ticket price. Grab your grappling hook and dust off your crossbow: Ada Wong is waiting for you!
-
Sep 27, 2023Separate Ways isn't just more Resident Evil 4. It's a meaningful expansion that delivers a new story through a distinct tone and with new mechanics. It is an essential extension of an already remarkable game. Although its nods to the past can feel a bit overt, it still packs a punch that'll have me playing it many times over again.
-
Sep 26, 2023The grappling gun makes Ada feel much more nimble, and combat encounters much faster, lending a sufficiently different taste to the gameplay experience.
-
Sep 25, 2023While Separate Ways plays it very safely, it is an easy recommendation for those who want some more Resident Evil 4 Remake in their lives.
-
Sep 25, 2023Separate Ways is about as good a DLC of this size can get, filling in narrative gaps and expertly tweaking a sublime gameplay loop. Playing as Ada Wong feels different enough thanks to new gadgets and weapons, while expanded areas provide fresh scenery for a second visit. A sense of disjointedness frays the edges, but Resident Evil 4 feels whole with Separate Ways by its side. A worthy expansion for one of 2023's greatest titles.
-
Oct 2, 2023Like Resident Evil 4 Remake, the new version of Separate Ways is way than the original thanks to its atmosphere, revisited parts that weren't in the game and of course, Ada. There aren't that many new features, and the IRIS mode is disappointed, but it's still a generous DLC that offers a different take on the story. Recommended for fans.
-
Sep 28, 2023Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways is just as fun to play as Resident Evil 4 Remake was, although it's much shorter. There are some great set-pieces and moments of camp that you won't find in any other series, and it is nice that Capcom is at least giving Ada and Wesker to the base game's Mercenaries mode for free. But. This whole part of the game used to be free. This was an add-on, a bonus, something Capcom initially packaged in with Resident Evil 4 on the PlayStation 2. All you had to do was beat the game once - there was no extra money involved.

Sep 27, 2023Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways greatly improves upon the storytelling and importance of Ada’s side story, serving as a template for future Resident Evil games’ expansions. It’s a condensed and accelerated version of the remake’s story that fleshes out behind-the-scenes events, and its ending enticingly teases the next possible remake in Capcom’s horror franchise. It can feel repetitive in parts, underrealized in others, but it’s a meaty piece of content that’s worth playing if the Resident Evil 4 remake left you hungering for more.
