    Blasting through unbelievable tracks at sonic speeds, Redout 2 is one of the fastest racing games around. It shows off beautiful science-fiction races across an alternate Earth and galaxy. Yet, the track design is impractical, making it a challenge to play and that difficulty extends into the beastly AI, tiresome overheating mechanic, and time trials demanding precision and perfection. Multiplayer doesn’t hold up either, with network and matchmaking problems galore and a handful of bugs breaking races and visuals. However, there is still a fantastic amount of single-player content for the adrenaline junkie looking for extreme fun.

    Redout 2 delivers where it matters with some of the fastest, most hardcore racing we've seen in a game. The bold visuals add to sense of excitement too. It's just a shame that the difficulty isn't more consistent and that the game is lacking in variation, especially as some of the gameplay modes aren't ready yet and will be patched in later when much of the game's already small community may have drifted elsewhere.

    A successful tribute to F-Zero and WipEout where going fast never stops being fun. Its surprisingly meaty career mode more than justifies the price tag but it may struggle to win over more casual racing enthusiasts.

    While the core gameplay of Redout 2 is solid, the difficulty spikes will suck much of the fun out of the experience for some. And while steadily developing your ship helps players adjust to the increase in speed over the course of the career, it’s a strange and unfortunate choice to not offer a range of starting craft, tuned to multiple play styles. With a bit of work, then, Redout 2 could really stand out in the anti-gravity racer genre. But until then, it’s hard to recommend to all but the brave and the hardcore.

    Redout 2 won't be worth the effort for a lot of people. It is rewarding, sure, but to be brutally honest, part of us thinks that you should just boot up WipEout Omega Collection instead and save yourself the trouble.

    Redout 2 is a game that looks amazingly sleek and fun through pictures, descriptions, and videos. The facade is dropped when you actually play the game for yourself, and find a slew of poor design choices, unnecessary difficulty curves, incomplete features, and repetitive gameplay. This doesn’t even include the atrociously implemented HDR that burned my eyes and gave me a headache. Even if you’re a fan of the genre, I recommend sticking with the first Redout until this sequel is heavily patched or discounted.

    Redout 2 is specifically designed for people who need to master every track – anyone who stops short of that probably won’t enjoy it too much. It’s meant for people who want racers to challenge them, so if that’s what you’re after, this is a game you need to play.

    Too hard for me - couldn't get past the training. Tried for 2 hours to achieve 1,000 in 'Boosting', 965 was my best. Waste of money - rage-deleted.

    You’re immediately forced to learn to try to learn how to drift - which is un-usual with its 2 stick use, the ship itself doesn’t look like it’s drifting at all, & drifting itself is unsatisfying.
    You’re Also forced to use pitch which is essential to use on ALL ramps & dips….. it makes the game crazy difficult & exclusively for the hard-core.

    You can turn on assists later on, but that just cheapens the game to such a degree that it’s not worth it.

    This is Worse than F-Zero GX & Wipeout’s which are decades old games.
    If fast speed is the attribute you’re most excited about which this game has, then gameplay isn’t that important to you, & that’s a huge problem.    … Full Review »

    This is a great game. The graphics are beautiful, the sound is satisfying with the exception of one crappy song, and the gameplay is AWESOME!This is a great game. If you can get through the tutorials, you can turn on AI assists until you get the hang of it.

    I got it because I wanted WipEout, but there isn't even one announced for the PS5 yet. The first time I played, I was stuck between being sad that it wasn't WipEout and perplexed by the complexity of the controls. I did my duty out of respect for the developers, and I got through the training. It was quite difficult, but after a few tries, I got it.

    I played on and off for a few weeks, and I hit a wall in the B-Class that I could not get past. I did not understand what they wanted me to do, and the races felt impossible. I drifted away from it for several months, but I never deleted it from my PlayStation because I love this sort of game, and I honestly felt a bit of pity for the developers. I understand that Redout 2 is an angry letter to Sony asking for more WipEout.

    A few weeks ago, I dusted it off and decided to give it a fair shot. This time, I already knew what it WASN'T, so I decided to see what it actually is. This game is awesome. The reason it feels so hard to people is they never figured out what they're being asked to do.

    You need to run HOT. Yes, it says, "Overheat". Good. Do that. Your ship should be glowing like it's about to melt. The metal in the back should be white hot. The difficulty should be turned WAY down until you have the feel for it.

    Turn with 2 sticks instead of one. Feel it out.

    Once I figured out what they were asking for, this game became a blast. It's so simple that my 4 year old can win races, but it's complex enough to drive me nuts with the finer points. The campaign is deliciously long for this sort of game, and it doesn't get harder, it just gets faster. If it starts feeling too easy, there's a wide range of difficulty settings. There aren't many players in multiplayer, but when you find one, it's a blast. If you've figured out the system and they haven't, you can finish double digit miles ahead of someone. When you find an even match, however, the races come down to single pixel photo finishes.

    If you're starving for some WipEout and you dig Phantom class races, get this game. Before you start, know that it's not WipEout. It's its relaxed little brother. You'll never catch a missile up your ass, but you'll go twice as fast.    … Full Review »
