An absurdist adventure into a world that you’ll never want to leave, Promise Mascot Agency delivers ridiculous highs on a near-consistent basis. You’ve never played anything like this.

Promise Mascot Agency breathes new life into the yakuza genre as its story seeks new paths for the organization while utilizing many of the classic tricks, between pure bizarreness and love of honor. It's not as esoteric as its older sibling, but anyone who wants to visit Kaso-Machi, meet its people, and commit to its rebirth will certainly not regret the time they spend here.

Promise Mascot Agency is a freaking fantastic title. It’s a bit weird, yes, and it’s absolutely not for everyone. But, for the people that end up picking it up, I genuinely believe you will grow to love this game as much as I have.

Promise Mascot Agency is an excellent game that has a great cast of characters, a chill world to explore, and fun moments sprinkled throughout. You can complete it and get all the achievements or trophies in around 20 hours, but even after the credits roll you may just want to drive around Kaso Machi and take in the vibe of a small town with a big heart.

Remember that weird Japanese PS2 game you picked up on a whim in 2004 because it had an interesting cover and the description on the back caught your eye and it turned out to be one of your favorite games of all time? Yeah, that’s Promise Mascot Agency.

For the myriad of things that Promise Mascot Agency sets out to do, I never felt like it was overreaching or losing its sense of self. Every aspect of this game feels tailored to a curated experience that feels equally inspired and trailblazing its own direction. Everything comes together in an almost flawless symphony that I can’t help but love.

This is absolutely a surprise hit for me. I had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend it to anybody who wants something really quirky, super Japanese, super weird, a little bit of open world stuff in there.

In the 15 hours I spent in the world of Promise Mascot Agency, I got to know and love every corner, every shrine, and every strange, tongue-in-cheek shop in Kaso-Machi. Not everyone will enjoy scouring the entire island for trash bags, corrupt politicians' election posters, and washed-up mascots as much as I did. But if you love exploring smaller open worlds more than huge maps full of question marks, and if you're looking for a moving yakuza story about betrayal and found families, Promise Mascot Agency is the place for you. And if you appreciate the Twin Peaks-esque charm of decaying industrial towns, supernatural beings, and strange mysteries, you'll also get your money's worth here.

Overall, Promise Mascot Agency is a charming combination of small-town drama and Yakuza crime politics. The absurdity of the setting gives it a flavor all its own, and it neatly threads the needle between ridiculous and serious. The actual gameplay is by the numbers and mostly serves as a delivery vehicle for the story, but it does well enough. If the game sounds appealing, you'll enjoy it quite a bit. Just make sure not to tick off Pinky. She's scary.

Promise Mascot Agency is a weird, absurd and brilliant gem that captures the essence of the best of Japanese indie. It's hard to compare it to anything: it's a strange mix of visual novel, business simulator, light RPG and black comedy. It's as clever as it is irreverent, and as funny as it is baffling. Of course, it's not a game for everyone.

Promise Mascot Agency is a delightfully bonkers blend of Japanese crime drama, business management sim, card-battler, and open-world collect-a-thon. No aspect of the game goes very deep, but developer Kaizen Game Works has threaded the needle here, creating an engaging “lite” version of several video game subgenres.

I’ve already fired up a new save file just to get a taste of those first few hours where the way I ran my mascot business really mattered, and to re-experience the joy of immersing myself in Kaso-Machi and all of the strange and wonderful folks living there. There’s just something so oddly wonderful about this work, an unmistakably scrappy “indie” texture that permeates the piece. Go in expecting not to roleplay a savvy manager and talent agent, but to cosplay one in a world where a guy can be made of road signs and an asexual ex-yakuza can be hit on by a Tetris block.

Despite its disparate elements you've probably seen before, you've never played a game quite like Promise Mascot Agency, a game that smashes together a crime drama story, management sim mechanics, and open world exploration. While there are some rough edges and repetitive aspects, this hangs together thanks to an engrossing story, compelling progression, and unusual but likeable characters. Greater than the sum of its parts, this unique game has cult hit written all over it.

Overall, Promise Mascot Agency is a charming and absurd experience that would fit perfectly in a Like a Dragon game. The story isn't as thrilling but the wacky world building and the characters that occupy it keep you from moving on. The gameplay may get tiring but there's still enough here for a good time. I'd recommend everyone play on hard if you want some challenge. Now, if you excuse me I've got a business to run.

Thanks to its genuinely intriguing narrative and collection of quirky characters, there's a lot to love about Promise Mascot Agency, and some players will simply adore it. This open-world adventure pretty much revolves around collecting items, however, and some elements of the game quickly become nothing more than a chore.
