Its narrative, visual style, and atmosphere set it apart, though its controls and puzzles can be frustrating. It doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it does offer a unique, intense, and deeply personal experience within the current horror landscape.

It’s beautifully told and has a lovely medium pacing to it, rarely too frantic and mostly set just right to give you thinking time about the big themes at play. For £15 this is well worth a look if you’re keen on an emotional rollercoaster, rather than an all-out blockbuster action by-the-second one.

It has some minor issues that might frustrate some, as well as some elements that feel a little underbaked, but Project Songbird is an engaging narrative-driven survival horror experience on the whole. If you like the idea of Firewatch crossed with Silent Hill, you should give it a try.

Over the course of its roughly 5–7 hour runtime, it delivers a journey that leans heavily on atmosphere, introspection, and a constant sense of unease...Fans of psychological horror will appreciate both the subtle and more direct nods to genre staples, while the game’s more personal themes help it carve out an identity of its own. It’s not without its rough edges, but Project Songbird still stands as an impressive achievement from Fyre Games… and a strong reminder of what a solo developer can deliver.

The art direction, sound, and impeccable voice acting elevate the experience, helping Dakota’s tale resonate. Although the combat and stealth segments lack the intensity that enshrouds other aspects, adding frustration rather than fear, this thrilling psychological exploration remains a memorable and imaginative horror experience.

Project Songbird isn’t a perfect experience, nor is it terribly scary, but it does enough right to merit a playthrough.
