While it could use some fine tuning before it can be a masterpiece, this is a beat that you shouldn’t miss. I highly recommend it.

Overall, People of Note is a fun and fluffy RPG. The plot isn't life-changing, but it's bolstered by a strong combat system, excellent music, and some surprisingly fun puzzles. The musical numbers may not work for everyone, but they gave it their best shot, and there's at least one song for everybody. People of Note isn't the first musical RPG, but it emphasizes that the two genres go together like peanut butter and jelly.

While there are some glitches and issues with the musical sequences, these aren't enough to completely detract from just how great this game is.

People of Note is a turn-based music RPG that combines Kpop Demon Hunters, Rock of Ages, Persona, Final Fantasy, and Expedition 33: an original and fun crossover, although it fails to rise to the ranks of the genre’s great experimenters due to obvious structural and pacing limitations. Accompanying Cadence as she searches for her band members, we experience a fantasy adventure exploring different musical genres, including explosive duets, environmental puzzles, and mysterious characters. The graphic style and character designs are exquisite, as are the songs. The turn-based combat, however, is more based on numbers than on music and rhythm. The game has style, but it should be taken for what it is: an indie title that will allow you to while away several hours of fun without too many expectations.

Iridium Studios makes a striking comeback with People of Note. While the game isn’t quite perfect and could do with a little more spice in its gameplay, it shows real boldness and completely captivates with an art style that fully embraces its concept. The combat system could have used even more polish to make it more engaging. On the other hand, we’re treated to a heartfelt adventure—somewhat clichéd, but well worth checking out.

If you're not exactly a die-hard RPG fan, People of Note can be a nice, accessible and cosy little RPG that tries to do things a bit differently by adding musical abilities to a traditional RPG, and if you buy into the slightly simple premise, it actually works.

while the game argues for the value of art that pushes boundaries, it’s too saccharine and neatly didactic to actually say anything new or remotely uncomfortable. The party believes that their work is a matter of life and death, but when so many central conflicts culminate in unbelievable truces—when the heroes face no real danger and the villains so frequently get off scot-free—what’s really at stake?

I know there have been other musical RPGs before, but People of Note still feels largely unique. I love how heavily it leans into its theme, and while I don’t expect the YA vibes to resonate with everyone, I personally found myself invested in the release’s cast and its brisk storyline. I think the battle system could have been further refined to feel more impactful and I would have liked to see it evolve faster. Furthermore, I’m not sure all of the environmental puzzles are as fun as the developer intended – although they can be disabled if you’re not feeling them at all.
