if we don't talk about the greed that is Activision Blizzard this game is a fun time, the characters are well written, most of the game modes are well put together, "although not the most fleshed out", and the art team is just amazing. If this game had just kept a few things from the overwatch 1 wouldn't have this many bad reviews.

Can't say it's the same game as 2016. OVERWATCH 2 SUCKS! They spoiled the masterpiece of 2016. The new maps are obnoxious, forgettable! Servers crashing at the end of the match. The game lost its originality and essence. Who plays overwatch today is because they don't have money to buy a game.

I was excited for the sequel and the future promised PVE content. Year later hearing the skill trees have been scrapped and the leveling with the heroes in that mode. It kind of dampers it a bit for me. The worst is them admitting they knew the PVE was too much for them to handle and still they continued like it hadn't been partly scrapped. The worst is them admitting they knew the PVE was too much for them to handle and still they continued like it hadn't been partly scrapped. Basically this game lost the plot along the way. While starving us of new fun content on Overwatch 1 for like 3 years. I'm also upset at the 5V5 component. Tanks are hard to balance and even in 5V5 they are still hard to balance. Look at Characters like Doomfist. Also the prices for the skins are just... I seriously didn't think getting rid of loot boxes would somehow backfire on the community like it has. The phone number requirement I think is a good choice. It helps crackdown on some "not all" smurfs in the game. A positive would be the nostalgia I have for the game. Been playing it since 2016. The gameplay is fun and when it's good it's damn good. But when it's bad it's really bad. Oh also almost forgot the new mode they introduced Flashpoint is kinda, meh for me. I thought at the time it was just gonna be for the arcade mode. Apparently not. My friends really hate it but I don't mind it so much. Also putting a price on the PVE content is a little scummy. Blizzard should have made this first batch of PVE free for the community and then made people pay for the second batch of PVE content. Make it an apology for how things have been for the passed couple years. I think that would have been fair. It's not like their going under with $30 priced D.va, Mercy Bundles. Now I'm glad they're adding new exciting heroes into the game again. That's always gonna be a positive. Even if they come out broken as hell and need a patch to tone them down a bit. So yeah Overwatch isn't the game it used to be and it probably never will be that game again. I can't fully recommend it myself and promise you'll have a blast playing it as a new comer. Give it another year or so and if you start hearing good things about it and it's still free to play then maybe it'll be a good time to pick it up. Expand

It's clear that Blizzard has no idea what they're doing. They scrapped the whole reason they said why they were replacing Overwatch with Overwatch 2. The characters are terribly imbalanced and the monetization is terrible. Overwatch 2 is a huge waste of time.

This game is what happens when you remove everything good about your game, go back on every promise made, remove the original (which was better), and introduced a scummy microtransaction system that actually destroys the integrity of competitive matches.... I spent thousands of hours in OW1, but I couldn't bring myself to spend more than 30 minutes in OW2

Game is empty promises and blizzard are liars. Nothing new but a pay wall now and they just slapped a 2 on the end of the name. Lazy developers who does nothing but lie just to make money. Overwatch fans wake up and play something better and better supported.

Overall the game is still fun but you can't help to think that it could be so much better. That's huge considering Overwatch was already an excellent game. The least they could do was just leave it as it was but they managed to do worse.

It’s obvious that the only reason they “updated” to Overwatch two was to introduce a battle pass system and to charge crazy prices for skins. I paid $60 for that game for goodness sake, and you mean to tell me I can't play it anymore? Well time to throw the useless disc in the trash can. So I basically paid $60 for a 6-year subscription plan. Not even Ubisoft is that greedy. They still have the servers up for the first Division, even after the release of the second one. The developers were too cheap and lazy to keep the servers up.

The graphics are a joke. The physics are laughable. The gameplay is boring and repetitive. This is pretty much the exact same game as the last. This is nothing more than an update patch for the first game disguised as a new game, except that this patch removes features. Where is 6v6? Lazy developers can't even be bothered to make 6v6 matches, so they scaled it down to 5v5. The heroes are now locked behind paywalls.

The online multiplayer is complete garbage with the horrible servers and extemely long queues. The spawn points are horrendous. The characters are poorly balanced. Sure, this game is free-to-play, but the first Overwatch game should have been free to began with. Apparently, you won't be able to play the game if you have a prepaid phone plan. So in reality, this game isn't free-to-play if you have a prepaid phone number. This outrageous greed infuriates me. I don't recommend this poor excuse of a game at all.

My guess is that by this time next year, Overwatch 2 will revert back to 6v6. The real rub of Overwatch 2 is how much it is not a sequel but instead a nerf of Overwatch 1. All maps are too bright, character design is more cartoony, animations have not improved, many characters are non-viable, new characters are no longer free, a few game modes are gone, and there are no more fun loot boxes as an incentive to keep playing. Certain characters that were good for strategy (meaning good for people who aren’t good at video games) like Tjorbjorn, Bastion, and Reinhardt are just worse. If you don’t play sweaty, you might as well not play at all. Overwatch was a fun game that I could jump into from time to time and enjoy a play of the game or grab a legendary skin after a match now and then. Overwatch 2 is not that game. Hard to say who Overwatch 2 was made for. Honestly, who wants all sweaty matches and wants to pay hundreds of dollars for in-game items. Lucrative? Maybe. Popular, doubtful. Definitely not the game I want and not the kind of business practices I want to support.

Update: I gave Overwatch 2 more chances and playing it more doesn’t make it better. You can look at queue times and see that 2 out of 5 players do not want to play support roles. But rather than design the game around the roles people want to play, Blizzard creates weak incentives for people to play support. Tanks are overpowered and that ruins all other game modes such as deathmatch and open queue games. The once popular Total Mayhem game mode is now unplayable because one hero is unkillable. The Push game mode has become unbearable. The maps are a mess and gameplay has no feeling of strategy. The 5v5 format has limited gameplay options anyway. One healer will stick to the one tank like a lamprey on a shark. This support role might as well be played by a.i. The game has a strong feeling of a lack of play testing. If Overwatch 1 was back, Imwould play that instead. I think most of the community would.

My main problems with this "sequel": almost zero changes, tons of problems on the lunch, crazy ranked placements, not enough support players because they are terrorized by genji and Sombra when tank is soaking damage, PvE is not available and most likely won't be free. Monetization in general is absurd. 20$ for 1 skin?

In terms of gameplay they just remove 1 tank and added ping. Wow, what an evolution. And we are saying that Fifa and CoD are the same every year. Seems they called it ow 2 just to apply new monetization system. Not sure if they really have some developers there, only the marketing team. My bet that at some point they will add gotcha system there. Blizzard is officially in bioware club now.

Overwatch 2 is at the time of writing still not fully out (PvE modes are not out yet) but regardless there are serval problems that I'm very worried about for the long run of this game.

    1) the monetization is just downright bad, 1 legendary skin is nearly £20 and so is the "best" version of the battle pass witch is ultimately a let down.

The next problem is that the coins that are required to buy anything, are only obtainable in two ways, by either buying them with real money, or completing 11 weekly challenges for 60 coins witch is not enough for even the cheapest items in the store.

Legendry's cost 1100 coins so at a max of 60 coins a week it would take almost 19 weeks for one skin or what blizzard wants is for your £20.

2)the lack of incentives is also a problem and it ties into the 1st problem being because everything cool is locked behind a pay wall you'll have nothing to grind for or feel accomplishment for unlocking.
one way to fix both problems would be to increase the coins gained from challenges and add the coins to daily and sessional challenges as well, and add coins in free tears of the battle pass and some of the paid tears to incentives grinding that out.

Something else to look at is the fact that blizzard could be doing a 2 steps forward 1 step back by making it really bad monetization wise now only to go a little bit back so consumers are more ok with some still very predatory ways of making money from you.

finally the game its self is still enjoyable but that shouldn't give the other problems a free pass.

edit: a legendary is actually 1900 coins so at a max of 60 a week it will take around 32 weeks of grind for one skin

There is absolutely no upgrade from the original OW. Everything looks and feels the same. They just slapped "2" next to the name as a marketing strategy because they decided to make the game F2P after the player-base died.

Everything is now locked behind ridiculous grinding and absurd weekly "challenges" that ask you to invest hours upon hours to complete them because they are based on luck (e.g., get 20 team kills). You need to pay 20 euro for a skin-recolor, or farm for 8 months to get it "free." The supposed "free" rewards from the Battlepass are joke-sprays and voice-lines. All the real things are locked behind the premium pay-wall.

The new "free" players that joined are entirely oblivious to FPSs and make games very frustrating. They cannot DPS, they cannot flank, they cannot heal. They pick Moira and play her like its Call of Duty.

Overall a disgusting re-release by Blizzard/Activision/ Microsoft (or whatever company they sold themselves too nowadays).

Okay, so I'm going to be completely honest with you: I have played this new "redefinition of the word sequel" (Blizzards words, not mine) for about two rounds. That means, I haven't had much chance to experience any significant improvement in QoL, I reckon one needs to play a lot more then that. This won't be a standard review of the game for two reasons.

First: I just expect Overwatch 2 to be ATLEAST good in the multiplayer segment, because what's the point of if it isn't? That is the bare minimum.

Second: Not gonna lie, I'm outraged. I've payed 40 bucks for Overwatch 1 back in the day and I've put even more cash into the infamous lootboxes. And I still want to punch my 18yo self for that. Hard. But wow, they managed to make a dying game even worse. We were not prepared for how ugly things would get.

Do not expect anything nice for me to write here, this is a full-on rant about the game and Activision Blizzard as company. If you have fun with the game, I don't want to take that away from you, but I really need to get this out of my system and if you got a problem with that, f*ck off and go shill somewhere else.

Things like error codes, ques and servers being bad are already unfortunate enough, but I'm a Splatoon veteran, you ain't gonna shock me with that. No, what's really driving me up the wall is Blizzards laughable, godawful, and downright evil business practices.

The lootboxes were atleast not rare, even without spending Money, since you could get them by leveling up or grinding the arcade. They also gave you ingame currency, so you could technically unlock all cosmetics at a reasonable pace. They weren't perfect at all, but holy sh*t, it got so much worse.

Overwatch 2 is Free-to-play now and has two Battle Passes, one for free and a premium version, which is by itself already bad. Kids, lemme tell you that F2P will ALWAYS come at a cost, and it cost Blizzard their last ounces of dignity. If it's just cosmetics, that's already scummy enough since the Premium Battle Pass gets all the good sh*t and the regular one gets hardly anything worthwhile. But you have to unlock new heroes through the BP, too. If you don't want to pay,.you get to spend weeks grinding and if you pay for Premium, you get them instantly. Remember the good ol' OW1 days where everyone got a new hero for free on their first day of launch? Speaking of heroes, new players have to unlock them bit by bit now, kinda like Smash Bros. Wouldn't be a problem, if OW1 didn't give you access to EVERY HERO ALL THE TIME. This system was fine before, why change it. I swear, ActiBlizz really seems determined to offend every old player, since they know how good it was before, how bad it is now and they are less likely to give these hacks any cash.

Some of the skins and cosmetics have new prices, and good golly, what the f*ck is wrong with these people? 20 bucks for a supbar skin? Go to hell, Blizzard. Please, do NOT support this! Your money is worth a lot more (especially these days) and you have a right to demand better! And I don't care If Fortnite, Valorant, Apex or LoL are doing a similiar thing, that is the price you pay for not paying anything! And it's not like Blizz didn't make the big bucks with lootboxes, they're swimming in dough.

And then there's the PvE Story Mode. Or, more accurately, the lack thereof. It's coming in 2023 as part of the BP. Couldn't you have simply waited a year and give us a complete product, instead of a mobile-gameesque early access update? I would've payed gladly for a finished product without any of that nonsense, you know, like OW1! It was good the way it was, why change it? Oh right, MUNEEEH. Just for comparison, Splatoon 3 has an addicting multiplayer, a fun PvE co-op mode, a meaty story campaign and even an ingame card game! This thing has CONTENT, baby! Guess which other game doesn't.

Oh well, guess I'm going back to OW1, it's not like they killed that one and replaced it with their lackluster F2P update shenanigans. Oh wait, THEY TOTALLY DID THAT. 40+ bucks down the drain. Team Fortress 2 is still online after all these years (it will outlive the entire universe at this rate), so what was the problem with leaving OW1 as it wa- oh. Yeah, of course. I'm a fool.

Do you see my problem now? The new update could be the best game ever made and it still would make me sick to my core. How does Blizzard f*ck up every game these days, it is quite remarkable. Not even Cyberpunk 2077 had such a **** launch, because that game is actually great and has content, something Blizzard apparently has forgot the meaning of. It's not like I'm surprised, tho. Ever since they scrapped their plans to make it an ACTUAL sequel and that it was gonna be F2P, I lost all hope for it. But damn, as someone who loved OW1, it just angers me. I don't like giving 0s as much as I don't like giving 10s, but man, Activision Blizzard does not deserve anymore of my respect and time. It is simply disgusting.

This is easily one of the biggest scams in video games history. In most of the games with a BP, if you manage to complete it, it rewards you back the complete cost of the BP itself though the levels, but that’s not the case, here you can have some ridiculous rewards as premium graffitis, voice lines, player icon, banners or the brand-new souvenirs that no one likes. That’s not the only issue with the game, but it’s my main concern as an original OW player. This game gets very boring so fast since there's no progression, there's no point on continue playing anymore. Free to play doesn’t mean you can abuse your users like that. Lootboxes aren't good, ethical, or wanted, but it sure beats what's going on here.

This isn't a sequel, this is a bad patch that I desperately wish could be rolled back. They killed the first game for a scummy downgrade that is riddled with server outages, terrible microtransactions, queue issues, and gameplay that feels like a downgrade. The choice to move from a 6v6 system to a 5v5 system was a bad move. (Shoutout to the players who were the 6th worst player in the friend group!) The character movement feels.. Different. I can't quite explain it. Sluggish, maybe? Almost like it's dragging(??) Otherwise the gameplay remains widely unchanged. The heroes though? Ohhh that's a different story. The character redesigns (the new default skins) managed to sap all the life and character out of some of the most charming and interesting characters in the FPS genre. For example, Junkrat's hair has mostly grown back, his teeth are no longer pointy, and he lacks the same sense of chaotic pyromania he had in the original. The most distinguishing characteristics of each character have been removed in favor of flat, cheap looking cosplay armor. Hanzo's exposed chest? Covered. Genji's cyborg body? Hidden. Mei's winter weather attire? Replaced. The new dialogue also feels almost out of character for a lot of the roster. Everyone is more serious and aggressive, rather than the goofy yet lovable cast we knew before. Blizzard has leeched all the life and intrigue of their characters, and it's a bleeding shame.

I think this is Blizzard's worst launch yet, which is.. Not easy to do, considering the company we're talking about. When I think of terrible game launches, I, probably like you, think of Cyberpunk 2077. The thing that makes Overwatch 2 even worse (in my opinion) is the fact that players could actually play Cyberpunk 2077 on launch, assuming you had the right hardware. Overwatch 2 has you matchmaking hell for (in my experience) up to an hour while screaming at you to spend exorbitant amounts of real world money on a game that's likely to go offline in the next twelve hours anyway.

This "sequel" is a sham. It's a downgrade in so many aspects, from the characters to the stability. Maybe if this had been a proper sequel, and I could still go back and play the original. But they killed that game and replaced it with an advertisement that only sometimes lets you play. Paywall after paywall, Blizzard will bleed us all dry while they suck the joy out of video games.

Run, do not walk! On top of the horrible bugs and clearly underdeveloped overall game, the battle pass is $60 a year and they want $20 for ONE skin. You end up buying what the OG game was worth multiple times over for a few skins. And they want to charge for the PVE mode when they finish it next year. This is a disgusting cash grab and nothing more. Now I can't play the game I purchased toRun, do not walk! Is Blizzard drunk or on drugs? What are they thinking? Same balancing problems, same greed, heck, same game as Overwatch 1 essentially. This is Overwatch 1.2.

The massive BUT here comes in how they’ve gone about gutting and replacing all progression systems from the original. While loot boxes were scummy, the new method is - while perhaps being less predatory, far worse for how much you can earn through gameplay. Things like Legendary Skins are now doubled in price, and the currency can only be earned in the most minuscule amounts, or bought for real world money. Via weekly challenges you can seemingly earn a maximum of 60 coins if you finish all challenges, while the skins cost 1900 coins. The insane grind can of course be circumvented by dishing out $20 USD for a single skin. Anyone looking to defend this as an alternative to loot boxes is lost in the sauce. Any argument that it’s fair because it’s free to play is utter rubbish. Overwatch 2 sets a new precedent for online games, even if you owned a physical copy the game you paid money for is now gone and replaced by something that - while similar in gameplay, has changed so much on the backend that just feels awful from a casual player standpoint.

I loved OW1. Sinked hundreds of hours in it. This "sequel" adds nothing and substracts a lot of what made the first game so engaging. No progression, absurd prices with little to no free currency, new heroes locked behind grinding a battlepass, etc. This game isn't even half as good as OW1 was and now I can't even play OW1 anymore.

Blizzard removed all the best parts of Overwatch 1. It takes 40-50 hours to unlock a single character, and you don’t even get basic characters like JUNKRAT for free? If you want a single character or skin be prepared to pay $20 minimum. To top it all off, the graphics are worse, 5 players instead of 6 leads to shorter and less fun matches. This game spits in the face of gamers and overwatch fans by showing Blizzard only cares about your money and not making the game good. Please don’t support it.

Very, very bad menu design, half of the replicas have been translated and half of them have not, the whole currency of the game has gone somewhere, and you can play at best during business hours. Blizzard, fix the servers already.

Fun at times. Improved visuals look the part, but this sequel strays too far from the team-oriented gameplay that made the original so compelling. [Issue#21, p.96]

Overwatch 2 has the same strengths as the first game. It's a new version of an enjoyable multiplayer shooter. But it lacks many essential things. The servers don't work well, it doesn't have a lot of new content and buying new stuff is extremely expensive. The gameplay is excellent, and the foundation is set, but there's still a long road ahead.

It’s really difficult to even grade this game. Should it be called “Overwatch 2” at all? And how is it going to grow? Right now, it brings next to nothing to veterans but still remains a very good team shooter.
