Aug 9, 2025Overall, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a title any action fan won’t want to miss. It offers a real challenge with its combat and gameplay mechanics, bringing new features to the iconic game while still retaining that challenge it’s beloved for. This enhanced, definitive version of Ninja Gaiden II offers gorgeous visuals, a flashy combat system, and a great story featuring many fun characters. With Ninja Gaiden 4 due out later this year, there’s never been a better time to jump in and experience the world of Ninja Gaiden for the very first time.

Feb 2, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black it’s a breathless challenge, a true test for anyone who dares to call themselves an old-school gamer. There are no compromises here: every victory is hard-earned, every defeat a lesson, every battle a trial of reflexes and strategy. In an era of increasingly accessible games, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a monument to pure skill, a fierce and unforgettable experience. And that’s exactly how it should be.

Feb 2, 2025Almost two decades after its original release, Ninja Gaiden 2 returns in Black form. While the core gameplay loop of cinematic action remains as compelling as ever, the focus here is clearly on updated visuals. The $50 price tag, however, feels a bit steep for what is essentially a visual refresh of a nearly 20-year-old game. Whether or not it's worth the price will likely depend on your level of nostalgia for the series. Hardcore Ninja Gaiden fans may find it hard to resist, but more casual players might want to consider waiting for a sale.

Feb 2, 2025An incredible video game seventeen years ago and an incredible video game now, Ninja Gaiden II Black is an immensely strong and timeless action game. All these years later its combat animation, diverse arsenal of weapons and setpieces are unmatched. Though there’s still the issue of it not quite being the most definitive version, this 3D reboot run of the Ninja Gaiden franchise is as relevant as ever. Remember around the time of this trilogy when the age-old debate was whether pirates or ninjas would win in a fight? You simply need to look no further than Ryu and his friends in their blood-soaked glory.
-
Jan 28, 2025Ninja Gaiden II Black takes an already solid entry into the series and gives it a modern and bloody coat of paint that signals the return of the legendary franchise.
-
Feb 17, 2025Although there are some technical issues, Ninja Gaiden 2: Black manages to provide a very dynamic and fun experience. If you've never played other games in the series because you found them difficult, this one is for you.
-
Feb 14, 2025Hardcore and even more beautiful, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is the definitive version of the best game in the franchise. Cutting-edge graphics combine with ultra-violent gameplay while ensuring considerable improvements over the original Ninja Gaiden 2. Ideal for newcomers and veterans of the franchise, the title highlights Ryu Hayabusa's promising future in video games.
-
Apr 8, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black remake achieved its main goals: to bring back the classic hack and slash genre to the spotlight through one of its biggest success franchises; to allow the developers to "train" in the use of Unreal Engine 5, which will be used for the fourth title; finally, to create an opening to the main attraction that will be Ninja Gaiden 4.
-
Feb 14, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black isn’t perfect, but its razor-sharp combat and relentless challenge ensure it still stands tall.
-
Feb 13, 2025Although it’s still not the ultimate version of Ninja Gaiden 2, Black brings back the brutal action and challenge that the genre has been missing for years. With enhanced graphics and ultra-fast technical performance, this classic doesn’t feel outdated even today and serves as the perfect warm-up for the series' return with its fourth installment later this year.
-
Feb 6, 2025Being a remaster that primarily just makes a classic a hell of a lot prettier, there are some issues here that remain unaddressed. If you can tolerate a camera that sometimes feels like it's working against you, however, then chances are you'll have a very good time with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black overall.
-
Feb 5, 2025Despite the glossy Unreal 5 sheen, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is unapologetic in its 360-era game design that is as frustrating as it is refreshingly no-nonsense. While modern audiences might bounce off some of its old-school quirks, when its blood-gushing, limb-severing action clicks you'll understand why it deserves to be as highly regarded as Bayonetta or Devil May Cry. For the definitive experience, purists may still want to stick with the original (which is backwards compatible on Xbox) but this is still a superior remaster to the last-gen collection that offers the best of both versions.
-
Feb 4, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black was intended to be the definitive version of the 2008 classic. With content missing from earlier versions, it's unlikely that many will consider it such, but that doesn't mean this still isn't a great iteration of Ninja Gaiden II. Even with the criticisms about removed content, platforming and the camera, the twelve hours spent playing through the story were extremely fun. Ninja Gaiden games have been successful because of their tough-but-fair difficulty and their intense frenetic battles, and these are the areas where Ninja Gaiden 2 Black excels. It may not be the definitive version, but this is still a great version of a great game and is highly recommended to any fan of ninjas or action games in general.

Feb 4, 2025For many like me, seeing Ninja Gaiden emboss a game basically guarantees a purchase. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is no exception. On top of its stapled blisteringly challenging combat, the entire game receives a visual level of polish that makes it feel new again. That said, the problems still exist, like enemy projectiles flying through objects and still hitting you. Above all else, though, the camera issues remain the most frustrating element of the game. Still, there's enough fun, gore, and challenge that will outweigh the outdated traits, even for newcomers.
-
Jan 31, 2025This remaster restores some of the original’s best features, such as the gore and limb dismemberment, while refining combat mechanics and visuals with Unreal Engine 5. However, it remains based on the inferior Sigma version, with fewer enemies, reduced difficulty, and missing features, making it an improved but still compromised version of a legendary action game.
-
Jan 31, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is an Unreal Engine 5 revival of Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma that arrives unexpectedly yet brings back the series’ legendary fast-paced action. While some missing features from the original Ninja Gaiden 2 and random performance stumbles keep it from being the perfect return, its wildly satisfying combat and varied arsenal make it a worthwhile visit for fans craving that classic Ninja Gaiden rush.
-
Jan 29, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a great remastering of a genuinely superb game, and will raise a smile in fans and new players alike.
-
Jan 29, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is not the definitive version of the classic, but a game with graphics from 2025 in a design and gameplay from 2008, to remind you how glorious and exciting it was to play Ninja Gaiden. It's a reminder that there's nothing quite like Ninja Gaiden.
-
Jan 28, 2025Even with the confusing cut content that hopefully gets added back in at a later date, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is the perfect way for newcomers to get into the series with its most action-packed and visceral entry. Veterans are still likely to prefer the ridiculous cruelty of the original game, but most fans are just going to be happy to see Ryu return and right most of Sigma’s wrongs.
-
Jan 27, 2025There's a lot to gripe about when it comes to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, but at the end of the day, it's still hard to put into words just how sublime the action is.
-
Jan 30, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a solid recreation of the original game, offering improved visuals and additional features. While it stays true to the challenge and feel of the original, some minor graphical issues and the high difficulty level may deter some players. Overall, it’s a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
-
Feb 6, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black offers a comprehensive remake of Team Ninja’s finest game, rendered in beautiful modern visuals. Combat is as bombastically brilliant as it ever was, though the awful camera will put off many of those new to the game, it really hasn’t aged well. Still, as a reminder of how good Ninja Gaiden can be, this remake offers a tantalising taste of what we can all look forward to when Ninja Gaiden 4 is released later this year.
-
Feb 3, 2025Ninja Gaiden 2 Black reminds us of our younger years, essentially playing through a cheesy action movie with over-the-top violence, cool looking vistas, and a ridiculous story. In parts, it’s fun to play something you can just enjoy for what it is, without the need to delve into overly deep combat systems. Yet with eventually repetitive gameplay and irritating hangovers from the clunky PS3 era, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black may be fun, but it's showing its age.
