I made an account for this but I just really think that Gearbox doesn’t know who their audience is anymore. This is not what we remember.

    STORY, GAMEPLAY AND CONTROLS
New Tales From The Borderlands is not sequel to the first game, it only does belong to the same universe. There are completely new characters; Octavio, Fran and Anu, which are the only three playable characters. In the game, player does control them one at time, making choices based by their point of view. As the previous game, New Tales From The Borderlands is very much alike. It is choice-based and the gameplay has quick-time-events. All the choices player makes in the game will affect all the outcomes and the ending specifically.

The game starts with Anu, who is Octavios big sister, and she got fired from her job of being inventive scientist. She had just invented a device (a “gun”) that doesn’t kill, but does heal people. Together with her brother Octavio and his boss Fran (who owns a frogurt shop) they try to make the healing device to the markets, but the corporate overlords comes to their way and try to steal the invention from them. So, their narrative-driven adventure begins.

The story was OK and the pacing was fast enough to keep me entertained throughout the whole game. What I didn’t like, was the horrible overacting and over-reacting to, literally, everything that happened. I don’t know was it the base game (Borderlands), which New Tales From The Borderlands belongs to, the reason to this, because I’ve never played those games (except Borderlands 2 VR -game which I have played). I think Borderlands -series is rather over-the-top, but still the acting in New Tales From The Borderlands was more of annoying than funny. Even the jokes didn’t hit me at all.

What comes to the gameplay; it was a big improvement from the previous game. New Tales From The Borderlands did run much better than the previous game (and all the other TellTale -games). The previous game was more slower and little bit sluggish, even the QTEs were dull. Moving the characters around was also a much imporved. Basically, everything in New Tales From The Borderlands were much faster and fluent.

The game also had mini games, which to my dissapointent, were a fail-proof. Only thing I had to do was to hit X-button. Then there was a Vaultlander fighthing mini game. It also was just hitting the X-button to do damage and QTEs to dodge. There was no difficulty in the game nor in the mini games, which was rather boring to play.

New Tales From The Borderlands also had lots of costumes, whici could be bought in-game currency. I did enjoy changing the clothes of my characters every time I came up with the changing booth.

    FINAL VERDICT
Even though the game was badly overacted and all the minigames and QTEs were overly easy, making the game have no difficulty whatsoever, I did enjoy little bit the New Tales From The Borderlands. The game was about 10 hours long, so it does have some playing value. Is it must play? No it isn’t, but for the series’ fans this will be a fun little addition.

It is an interactive comedy movie. If that that's not your thing, than shut up and continue to shoot each other in MW2. I don't yuck on your yum.

Fran is trying so hard to be Ellie from Borderlands 2, this game should have never been told, also whoever told the Animators to make their faces look like a used condom when they're expressing themselves needs to be fired.

You can tell Telltale didn't make this and the new Overly sensitive people behind the wreck that was BL3 had a heavy hand in the story. Badly written storyline Lacks the offensive humour BL has always had.
Doesn't feel like a tales game at all

Unlikeable characters: an old woman with rage issues, an idiot teenager, and a socially awkward scientist. Only interesting character is the killbot.

Unfunny humour. Lots of toilet humor, unoriginal jokes.

Weak plot. It's barely cohesive, characters acting like idiots for the sake of absurdity and cheap laughs.

Play original Tales. They are truly funny.

Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that is heavy on narrative the most. I also play a lot of racing games and use to play multiplayer games in my high school days but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up so now it’s rare for me to get into a multiplayer game. Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, PS3, PS4, PS5, and a Switch. I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.

    (7) Average. The game’s feature may work, but are nothing that even causal players haven’t seen before.

I was hoping this game would be as good as the original Tales from the Borderland but it’s not. The only thing this game does better than the original is the graphics. I don’t think the cast is as bad as everyone says, I thought they did good playing the character that was written for them. The humor felt force most of the time and over the top but I think the regular Borderland games have the same issue. The story fell flat for me, seemed like there was no direction just random events that pushed the story forward. There are some good parts of the game but nowhere close to the original. The story didn’t make me feel anything other than a few chuckles here and there. Unlike other episodic games, each episode didn’t have a build up to the end, and was more just a mini break to the next episode. Overall, it’s a decent game but nothing rememberable or innovative to the genre. Only play if your bored and just looking for something to keep you occupied.

This is the worst game in this sequence of Borderlands. Is as a game for small kids. No action much stories usless. It's a shame for the creators of the game

The script is unbalanced. One minute the game moralizes how bad it is to make fun of stereotypes, then a moment later it overwhelms you with an over-the-top brutal scene. Pretty graphics, hilarious animations and good voice acting can't save a weak script. [Issue#323]

New Tales from the Borderlands tries to go all-out but ends up with unlikable characters, mind-boggling story twists, and forced comedic writing. Even some interesting decisions and entertaining side characters cannot save what is otherwise an uninteresting romp through the world of Borderlands. If anything, NTFTB confirms that the original was indeed a perfect storm that isn't easily replicated. Fans of the franchise may end up enjoying the adventure, but I'd advise waiting for a sale before embarking on this strange adventure.

Gearbox tries to recapture the magic of Tales From The Borderlands, but by abandoning its original motley crew and valuing jokes over story, it offers tame tales only. [Issue#21, p.78]
