Absolutely sick of this trash game. Everything about it is a massive step backwards. From the microtransactions to the **** game play. What a disappointment

This game is a vending machine game with predatory microtransactions geared to create addicts by taking advantage of the competitive nature of its player base. If you like to pay online get ready to pay up.

My career starts off like if me in real life decided to join the nba, and it’s horrendous. Can’t make a shot can’t shake a defender and I’m playing on normal. Then you get blocked from progression by the objectives. The pace is glacial due to all the side missions you have to complete and it’s down right horrible. My nba 2K apologist of a cousin put this one away a long while back.

Also, I can't stand the City concept. Running around doing miscellaneous quests talking to random NPCs, doing the same boring workout mini games, growing your player's social media platform in a basketball game? On top of that, whenever I try to run around the City, it is constantly lagging and makes it impossible to get anywhere or do anything in a reasonable amount of time. I don't mind having a story, or an area for Online play such as they do in other games....but the City style just frustrates me. Cool when it was introduced, but not anymore and I probably will skip next year's installment, unfortunately. Expand

Can't even make one contested layup on smaller defenders. I'd be ok with the grind if the My Career was offline, but once they shut down the servers your grind will have been pointless. Should definitely separate MyPlayer and My Career for people that want to casually have fun in the game. Take Two and 2K might actually be as bad as EA. Expand

Cons: MyCareer, MyTeam, gameplay, inflation among microtransactions, lazy community engagement, having the same animation issues that have been in the game every year, lack of grindable content, cards that are only obtainable by being in the top 1% of gamblers on the game, challenges that are purposefully created to make you play the game for a longer period of time to increase average time played by player per day/week, a significant increase in untradeable cards, lack of locker codes, “filler” sets within packs that contain players with bad stats/animations to inflate the odds for dark matters, having player builds that cost hundreds of dollars, lack of new and intriguing game modes, and just an overall prioritization of profit over community.

I understand that most video game producers require microtransactions for their games to survive and evolve, however, there is no worth behind the microtransactions 2k offers. Their game modes have become repetitive and obsolete to the average grinder, offering them no incentive to buy packs let alone play the game. The underlying notion of the company not engaging with the community has also left players to turn to other sports games that appreciate their fan base (MLB The Show 23). In years prior, 2k has at least offered some form of free weekly content to keep those who don’t have thousands a week to spend on pixels to keep all parts of their community engaged. This year, it seems like it’s only about meeting metrics, cherry picking stats that make their company look favorable and on the rise, and evolving into this “lifestyle game” instead of just a basketball game (FYI: absolutely nobody wants that). I will give credit where credit is due and say that Season 7 of MyTeam has been a step in the right direction, yet their efforts seem almost fruitless due to the damage they caused after the previous few seasons. Unless the company announces a dramatic lay-off or a complete change within the next edition of the game, I don’t see myself purchasing another 2k developed game in the near future.

The only reason I bought this game was because it was on sale, and it only took one day to realize the reason why it was on sale. The fact that they keep giving you all the exact same game made worse through unnecessary changes for the sole attempt to feign progression. This was the last straw for me, 2K is irredeemable in my eyes, They are an old animal that slowly walking to its death, only being held alive by its dwindling group of fanatics. VC microtransactions have made MyCareer mode pretty much unplayable, the Jordan mode is great but for a full priced game to charge even more and more to play a mode I’ve already essentially paid for is just crazy greed on 2Ks part and shows no sign of slowing down with it getting worse each year.

The mycareer "story" is designed to move the player from one endorcement focused segment to the next, and whoever wrote the dialogue for this game seems to know it. Then, the story just fizzles out. Win the whole thing, being rewarded finals mvp and breaking any playoff scoring record there is on the way, all in your rookie season? Game doesn't react, not even a cutscene, because the "story" is already done. Navigating the city, as every year, feels terrible. I've had better put together skateboarding experiences in flash games in the early 00s than this modern AAA-title serves up. This year, 2K have even increased the VC cost of improving your mycareer player, making the whole mycareer experience a slog.

I think the on-court experience is a slight improvement on last year's though, and there is a good basketball game underneath it all. A shame the packaging is so shamelessly moneygrabbing.

This game is a solid basketball simulation, though the franchise mode can move more slowly than you would hope. I enjoyed bringing a franchise through the past with knowledge of which players would be great. It was a fun fantasy.

MyPlayer mode is slow and grindy with a bunch of BS that you really don't want to do. I just wanted to hoop, and it was making me chase down sponsors and do fashions shows and a bunch of stuff that isn't basketball.

MyTeam is what it is. You know what you're getting with that.

My real issue is the size of the install. It was more than 100 GB. I wound up uninstalling so that I could actually play games that I wanted to play. I had been playing an occasional game, but not anymore.

The problem that plagues all triple-A sports titles can be found in here as well. There's not much to say concerning the differences between NBA 2K23 and the previous entry. In other words, maybe only super-fans of the series or major basketball aficionados should care. If you have the patience to wait for a discount, what you'll find here is a great NBA game, with some cool modes that transport you to the past of the organization, with chief among them a meaty tribute to Michael Jordan.
