    NBA 2K21 is yet another atrocity from the pitiful 2k company. There is no improvement at all to the gameplay, and if anything, it's gotten far worse. Jump shooting is the least reliable thing next to the constant blown layups and the screens your AI teammates set might as well be nonexistent. Defense on your team is played with chained balls attached to your feet while the CPU defenseNBA 2K21 is yet another atrocity from the pitiful 2k company. Why put in so many different dribble animations when they're all useless in getting by defenders? As has been the case year over year, the CPU can decide when it wants to take over and leave the user in a baffled state of "what's the point of me even playing this game?". Exploiting the user-base for virtual currency is nothing new, but it's also nothing to continue scoffing at. It's a distasteful business model (at best) that grabs at the wallets of those that love the sport of basketball and want to enjoy it in a gaming environment. I tried giving 2k another chance after that pathetic excuse that is 2k18 but, once again, nothing ever changes with them. I'm done lying to myself and I'll never buy another 2k game ever again.… Expand

    They keep catering to online. You couldn't pay me to play my park stop that garbage. This has fallen a long way since 2k12 where I fell in love with the sport because the game. No rookie difficulty, jumpshots are absolutely impossible to hit contested or not. I can't play rookie mode and enjoy this game I can't believe how bad they messed it up.

    This servers, the same as every game if not worse. I never had lag in 2k21 on ps4. But this, I was playing twos and it won't stop lagging, I have 200mbs internet speed direct connection.
    Rec, Copied and pasted from 2k21 on previous gen just like everything else.
    The wheel is gone. Go to the statue click X and get something.
    No events have been live for a week, besides advertising PUMA, where there socks and thats all get more rep.
    Rep is even the most hard to earn this year. VC is a grind, even after paying 10 extra dollars.
    I am very disappointed in this game.
    I also had a glitch where my player couldn't connect to the servers, I did fix that, all of the old bugs are back from previous 2k's
    The graphics are pretty much the same with different shaders.
    I am sad. This game is truly a huge rushed, money grab.

    One more thing, there is only one build. Power Forward scoring machine. 6,7 Height and 210 weight. They can score, play defense and playmake.

    Worst NBA 2K I’ve ever played, right beside NBA 2K20. The physics are gone and no longer realistic. NBA 2K dropped off after NBA 2K18. It started dropping off with NBA 2K17 but it’s gotten significantly worse since then. I still go back and play NBA 2K11 and NBA 2K14 and those are amazing. Still the 2 greatest basketball games of all time. RIP realistic and non greedy basketball games.

    Disgusting pay-to-win mechanics and micro transactions still plagues this game. Which is a shame because gameplay wise, it’s still the best sports game.

    An absolute broken mess. On franchise mode, you will see top-tier free agents not sign with anyone and just sit there on the free agent list for the whole year. They won’t even take your money because they demand an exact amount. In my current franchise, there is an all-star team worth of talent on the free agent wire DURING the season. The easier modes are too easy, but when you bump things up, the CPU will hit all catch and shoot 3s as if they were a bunch of prime Ray Allens. You, meanwhile, don’t have that luxury. Furthermore, your AI defenders are 100% moronic. Help defense is a joke. If you like playing a certain position, like center, you’ll also find that the CPU will routinely blow by your AI teammates, forcing you to play help defense on almost every play. If the CPU has a decent shooting center, it’s game over. The MyPlayer and MyTeam probably got most of the attention, and that’s what’s wrong with sports games in general. You fools have ruined the sports simulation genre by worshipping these money-leeching modes. I tried to get a refund and was denied. 2K feel free to get me that $100 for the last gen plus current gen purchase that I made. Hit me up when you want to make an actual simulation. The game is always laggy and there is nothing fun to do in the game. I’d rather play 21 on current gen than this Garbage of a 2K. This game is bad.     When ever I try to shoot the ball in the city I lag and it’s not my internet it’s the trash servers and it takes so much money to upgrade ur player and mycarrer dosent give out anything and I don’t buy vc so idk how u get vc

    My career storyline sucks. In nba 2k15, you can have 2 nicknames and choose your own voice. I'm tired of being called stupid names like junior and ai when they are not the names i chose. The opposition continually makes tough jump shots or they miss just to get an offensive rebound and put it back up for a bucket. It is damn near impossible to get a stop on the defensive end, but godThis game is easily the most frustrating game I’ve ever played. I just played an online game and watched this guy get the same putback dunk animation 20 times. If you want to win a game in my team you have to pay money, which is ridiculous considering you have to pay $60 to get the game in the first place. In conclusion do NOT buy this game

    They are using the rosters from last year... I am a lifetime sports gamer, and I have never played a new sports game that uses rosters from the previous season. On top of that, they didn’t change much from the previous games. I barely notice a difference on PS5 compared to PS4. Save your money, and just play last year’s version. This game is trash.

    Gameplay is sluggish, but can be overcome in offline modes by adjusting game and character speed. Is this a game for nerds with youts f***ing championships or for everyone? The average player loses interest in leagues with 1 or 2 wins out of 12. Nobody interest in loses.     Let me start by saying the game could be fun, but it’s broken. I have been receiving no VC or badge upgrades on my Myplayer for the last 9 games. VC or virtual currency is the reward given in game to be used to upgrade your player stats and purchase in game items. VC is can be purchased through the PlayStation store as well. I have also spent 100,000 VC included with the game as well asLet me start by saying the game could be fun, but it’s broken. To put it in perspective, to buy 200,000 VC it would cost you $50. I’ve spent 2 days with 2k customer support trying to work through the issue. They’ve had me reinstall the game, clear cache and send them all the screens shots and videos of the error. All they say is that the team is now aware and they hope to one day to have it fixed with an update, and if I have anymore feedback it should be shared in their forums.

    So the $100 game I bought is unplayable because my player is stuck at a low level unless I buy their VC through the PlayStation store because I can’t earn it in game. Not to mention I have no way of earning badges that are needed to build a playable character. Don’t waste your money. If this was Fallout 76 you wouldn’t play it, you would be able to return it and all the critics would be up in arms but for some reason these ass hats can get away with it. Move on play a game that is fun and rewarding. That’s what I will be doing.    … Expand

    The multiplayer servers are trash in this game. The developers heavily advertises "The City" which is nothing more than a gimmick that gets old fast. How about they spend time actually improving the gameplay and visuals instead of coming up with gimmicks. The city looks lazily designed. The skateboard mechanics, animations, and physics are a joke. The skateboard magically hovers in the air when you grind on the rails. This whole city stuff looks and feels like a mod for GTA V. That is embarrassing for a AAA next gen game. I recommend you wait to get this game until Gamestop has it on a 4 for $10 sale.    … Expand

Player movement is greatly improved and it plays much more like a real NBA game than any other NBA game we have had in a long time. Visually the game looks crisper. Controls are much smoother.     Just a phenomenal game. Fan Favorite Features such as park affiliations returned with a more simulation based game style in the game as compared to its predecessors. All while keeping the hardcore gamer satisfied with a deeper than ever MyNBA Mode.

    I got this because I was tired of EA hasn't been doing anything.with madden for years even now on next gen it's terrible. Coming from that to what 2K has is night and day. I get that 2K fans are upset at things with in 2K but it's light years better than the other sports games.

    Visual Concepts has done it again with making a true next-gen game for the PlayStation 5. This game not only looks better, but plays better than last generation version, by leaps and miles. The graphics are absolutely stunning, gameplay feels as authentic as you can get to the real life thing, and some new additions have been made to MyCareer. Only real constructive things I can mention that I would like improved is some more upgrades to MyLeague which is a great mode, but would benefit from extra addition such as the ability to play G-League games.     Even with the new hardware and Sony forcing them to allow fast-loading without ads, 2k has managed to produce another steaming pile of sh*t. Just for the 0.000001% possibility that you might accidentally buy VC, they will erase your progress simply b/c their servers lost connection.

When asked why you can't carry MyCareer progress over to next gen, they used a terrible, inaccurate analogy that "Halo 4 can't play Halo 5 online. We're in the same boat here", which is not true. When they said it's a new experience I thought we'd get a new story, but no. It's the same! I don't understand why you can't carry over progress. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it.

    Unlike other reviews, I won't touch on gameplay being the same as PS4. Or the numerous disconnect glitches and game-freezing bugs I had. This game deserves a 1/10 purely on it's **** YOU, GIVE ME MONEY!" Decision making process.

    There is a lot in this game that could make it great, but it falls short. The new shot meter is awful and really affects the gameplay. AI could be better and proposes problems. And The City is a fun addition but is underwhelming in some parts. 6/10.

    The next gen graphics look amazing! But the overall Gameplay/Mechanics/Modes are pretty much a re-skin from previous games. No worth the $70 price tag considering is a pay to win game.

Another reason is its trash is that if you take a contested shot with your back to the sideline you will fall into the crowd. Even if the shot is 15ft from the sideline. Current gen 2k21 was hard at first but we got the hang of it and it was alright. But next gen 21 is straight garbage. There's no way to play defense. I have a PF build and SF build. The Hall of Fame mode is literally unplayable due to the IQ of your teammates once you up the difficulty. All they do is turn your sliders down and turn your teammates into idiots lmao. So yeah one of the worst games I’ve played and I think 2K has officially got my last dollar.

The gameplay is somehow slower and more lethargic than 2K20 and feels like a complete step down. You cannot create the type of build you want because there are about two builds per position that are overpowered as all hell and if you do not create one of those you are completely screwed.     This game is a cheater. I play myTeam. My players with ~97 can't do sh1t vs the AI. Play 3x3 vs same players and get my A55 busted. They score in 90% of the possessions. If you get a card pack, always get horrible players. This game is pay to win, and unfair. Couple of days ago I started a game winning 15-0. Lost 60-45. Worst game ever, will never buy it again.

This just makes the cards in MyTeam way too overpowered, and makes the game so unrealistic. Small PGs like Rondo will be dunking over Antetokounmpo and getting rebounds. Every time you block a shot, the guy getting blocked will get his own rebound somehow. You'll get a defensive stop and start a fast break but the guy will just be casually jogging down court instead of running. Way too many passes are deflected or intercepted even when the opponent isnt even in the passing lane. I've gone against Shaq countless amount of times, and never seen him miss a free throw. Theres way too many animations in the game, and it just seems programmed. Once you get a good lead on someone, the other team will start catching every break. They'll call fouls on you every contested shot so you give up and 1s. You'll start getting called for illegal screens when you dont even call a screen. The contract system in MyTeam is so toxic and should be removed. You'll play a game online and the opponent will quit in the 1st quarter causing you to waste contracts and you make no currency from the game. MyCareer is way too much of a grind if you want to compete online. You won't be able to hit a shot or score easy open layups unless you have hall of fame badges. This forces you to grind hours into the season mode. You put a bunch of real money for VC to boost your players Overall to 93 and the guy will still never hit a shot without gold or hof badges. You're player will literally look like he's never played a game of basketball in his life until you get badges. I can literally just go on and on about how terrible this game is but I'm tired of writing about it. Theres nothing good to say about it. The game is complete trash and a huge money grab. Will never buy another 2k again. I got better stuff to do with my time than to waste it on this awful game that provides 0 entertainment and only frustration.… Expand

    This game is a 0 at best. The game backs you into picking a play style. You start out as a middle school basketball player with a laughable overall. The only way to get good is by buying virtual currency. I got this for free and I still feel like I should get a refund. JUST MAKE THE BE A PRO OFFLINE. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE SO GRINDY.

    This game is way too hard to play for new players. This makes it really difficult to even want to continue playing. I may quit and delete this game. There’s no help getting better either. No training. And the story line is entirely too talkative.

Random fouls, random turnovers, etc. Even on Next Gen it’s terrible. The A.I has absolutely 0 intelligence. The passing lanes and ball movements are still cheesed. Inbound passing and alley oops are cheesed on a God like level. Unfortunately 2K developers have focused their game around trying to get as many micro transactions as possible; while the actual gameplay suffers more each year. And I’m not a MyPark guy Because I like real NBA basketball not cartoonish street hoops. I only play my career and play now online. And I’m pretty average you could say my online record is 115-107 so a little above .500… Expand

No thought given to those who would want to just create a player and become the greatest the NBA has ever seen.

    MyTeam is essentially a cash grab exercise. Challenges and collecting so deep no one would ever get through it all, catching every Pokémon would be a far easier challenge. Nothing new added to the MyLeague experience for what feels like a decade now. The lack of effort here makes my attempts to get to the gym three times a weak look like I have Kobe Bryant like dedication.

    And nothing knew added. Scratch that, content we used to have is still missing. No creating a legend mode. Not challenges related to the cover athlete like with LeBron different challenges back in 14. Missing legends still. The fact that 2K increases micro transactions and pay to win every year and still can’t find the cash to meet Reggie and Charles halfway is ludicrous. Not really any new teams no thought put into creating older season rosters to play.

    I hate myself for knowing I’ll go buy it again next year     … Expand

    Total trash. The mycareer basically decides if you have a good game or not. There is no consistency game in and game out. One game you will have an amazing game with good stats and play well. Next game you play the same exact way and shoot all the same shots and miss 3/4 of them. Bought this game for $20 and it is still a total waste of money.

    Didn't pay money for this game, but feel like I deserve to be payed to play this **** So much down time in game where u do absolutely nothing but press the x button waiting. The game runs worse than 2k16.

    In myteam I should not be missing wide open layups agents any of the teams and they can hit fully smothered shots from half court

    Aside from the constant “buy this buy that” that 2k is now accustomed to having art the menu screen, my biggest issue is most times when I want to play an online h2h game, I get this stupid “error has occurred and this game will not be counted” message. I could be up by 20 or down 5, and I’ll get this error. The game could be 10 secs in abs I’ll get this error. There is a Ben Simmons card with a 99 3 pointer. There’s a Giannis card with a 99 free throw. This game is so unrealistic that mid range shots don’t even exist when you play online. Anything inside the 3 point line is a bad shot. MyCareer is terrible with a horrible story line. You cannot get drafted first overall for whatever reason. You can score 100 points with 30 rebounds and the best you can do is get drafted second. Oh… and the person who gets drafted first goes to the same team as you and plays the same position as you! Because every GM thinks it’s a great idea to draft the exact same position with the first two picks in the draft. Also… has a single team EVER had the first and second pick in the draft in NBA history? The game is just terrible.… Expand

    I love the depth and creativity that 2k has in MyLeague. The ability to upload team designs from the internet was the best idea they've had. I wish madden would learn a thing or 2 from 2k. Their was a couple of minor issues like the abbreviation color on the scoreboard wouldn't match your team color sometimes but all in all I like what 2k is doing with their MyLeague mode, it keeps me entertained.

    Visually impressive basketball sim that is simply breathtaking on the court. In terms of game moeds you feel the old gen remains – as you do in the still annoying micro transactions.
