Oct 3, 2024Despite a single player campaign that is decidedly forgettable, Khaos Reigns is a step in the right direction from Netherrealm in terms of balance and roster choices. Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot are spectacular, dynamic, and deep, and the balance changes are timely and not excessive. We are not faced with an absolute excellence in the fighting genre, but it would be unfair to rate this expansion lower than the base title, of which it is still a notable evolution.

Sep 26, 2024Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns introduces three well-rounded veterans that add even more variety and depth to an already robust roster. The guest characters inject personality into the game, offering you the opportunity to create memorable encounters with iconic figures from video games, film, comics, and television. While the campaign delivers incredible sequences packed with cinematic flair, it falls short in narrative depth. Nonetheless, the game’s engaging combat mechanics, diverse character lineup, and stylish sequences ensure that long-time fans of the franchise will still have plenty to enjoy.

Oct 7, 2024Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns adds a good amount of kontent for MK1. Price concerns aside, the additions of Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot should be seen as a blessing for MK fans. It remains to be seen about the future of MK1’s story and the rest of the Guest Fighters coming soon, but this is a good step in the right direction for a larger-form kontent in year 2 of MK1.

Oct 3, 2024Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is a fun addition to the steller base game. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that your mileage with it will vary wildly. If you’re just after a little more story you could be done with Khaos Reigns in a couple of hours. Those looking for new characters to master, especially fans of a certain trio of ninjas will certainly get much more out of the update.

Sep 26, 2024Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is not without its flaws but it will appeal to most hardcore fans thanks to strong performance by the actors behind Havik and Noob Saibot, excellently directed cutscenes and the brutal animalities.

Oct 4, 2024The campaign certainly lacks in certain aspects, but there is high quality, action packed, creative cutscenes to enjoy regardless. The new character redesigns are take it or leave it, but they're intriguing enough to see out their stories, although much of what's around them pulls it down. Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns is run of the mill, but serviceable.
-
Oct 16, 2024Unfortunately, the excitement of that original Mortal Kombat 1 ending is gone, and in its place rests a trepidation and unease over where the story might go next. Fittingly, it seems this once-promising story has been thrown into, well, chaos.

Oct 1, 2024Mortal Kombat 1's story expansion is disappointing. A weak plot and an even worse conclusion. On the other hand, Cyrax, Sektor and Noob Saibot have interesting gameplay that doesn't make the DLC as a whole dispensable.
-
Oct 1, 2024It's hard to talk about Khaos Reigns without having that price tag in mind. For £39/$39 it's simply too lean, relying on the promise of an eclectic mix of characters to come and some long-awaited roster additions to add value to a very short and mostly forgettable story add-on.
-
Sep 30, 2024Khaos Reigns doesn't shake up Mortal Kombat 1 as much as a chaotic regime implies. Instead, it sticks to what works, or at least what it thinks will work. More story mode, more ninjas, and more guest characters. For me, the ninjas steal the show over a weak story and an unexciting (although yet to be released) guest ensemble.
-
Sep 30, 2024Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is disappointing for those expecting a more exciting story, but the new characters are a cool addition.
-
Oct 9, 2024Khaos Reigns is a very bland and boring story expansion, with the addition of only 3 new characters (with 3 more guests to come), it is a very expensive package for what we are offered, at this point it's recommended to just wait for the ultimate edition of the game to come out with all the dlcs.
-
Oct 8, 2024Khaos Reigns is a mess of multiverse nonsense featuring mostly a cast of characters we know and care nothing about because they aren't from the main timeline. The whopping $50 price tag for this is insane. I would say that if you care about the characters, then just wait and buy them separately because the story expansion isn't worth that price at all.
-
Sep 30, 2024In attempting to land another visceral knockout blow, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns instead Johnny Cage uppercuts itself right in the nads. The underwhelming story chapters undercut the climactic finale of the vanilla campaign, while the new roster is comprised of welcome returning characters, or the uncertain potential of three unique icons. For the price of half a full game, Khaos Reigns doesn't have the substance to hold this timeline afloat.

Sep 27, 2024Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t missed once with its post-launch DLC characters (and really, with its roster as a whole) so I’m sure that the rest of the expansion’s soon-to-be-released fighters will be great, but as it stands I can only talk about these three. While they are some of MK1’s strongest characters (in terms of how they play at least), they can’t make me overlook what is otherwise a weak expansion greatly overshadowed by NetherRealm’s last offering.
-
Sep 27, 2024Mortal Kombat: Khaos Reigns delivers solid characters like Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot, along with the usual MK humor and no load times. However, the DLC feels overpriced, offering only two hours of story content for a steep price of fifty euros. While visually impressive and enjoyable for hardcore fans, it’s hard to justify the cost compared to other entertainment options.
-
Sep 26, 2024While the Khaos Reigns expansion does come with a full Kombat Pass 2 (including the guest fighters later down the line), the story is only around two hours long, making this expansion's price – which is almost on par with an entire game – a little questionable. And it doesn’t do anything to change the glaring flaws already present in Mortal Kombat 1 such as the terrible Invasions mode or the overpriced cosmetics.
-
Mar 10, 2026While Khaos Reigns extends the experience of the enjoyable Mortal Kombat 1, the story expansion itself is nothing to write home about. The six new fighters are the meat of the experience, with some fun returning characters from past games and three well-realised guest characters, some of which have shaken up the meta in a positive way. Regardless, this bundle is difficult to recommend as a package, so fans who are only interested in a select few Kombat Pack 2 fighters would be better off purchasing them individually.

Oct 1, 2024A year on, and Mortal Kombat 1 is still plodding along. If you’ve felt a bit gore deprived recently, Khaos Reigns is a great way to refresh your sicko meter and have some fun with friends, but even with infinite combos and a variety of new characters, MK1 still feels stuck in the mud. Hopefully, the next MK game will take place in a timeline where the gameplay doesn’t feel stiff, though I’m not sure even the Kamidogu can help with that.
