Exciting, fun and energetic, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is a true celebration of the franchise and the beat 'em up format itself. The game combines a story typical of the super sentai morning shows of the 1990s, great gameplay and a stunning aesthetic, even if it loses a bit of pace in the shooting and combat passages with the zords. It doesn't reinvent the genre, but it certainly exalts it like few productions of the last decades.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is exactly what it sets out to be; a fun and nostalgic trip down memory lane. Stunning pixel art visuals, fun and engaging combat and a killer soundtrack will make fans of the series long for more. Sadly, some players will not feel as challenged as they’d like to be in gameplay, along with tedious frustrating moments found in the super scaler levels. A simple plot and repetitive voice work don’t do the game any favours either, but overall, if you love the Power Rangers and arcade games, you’ll find room in your heart for this one. A nostalgic trip!

While a little simple, Rita’s Rewind brings back the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for a thrilling jaunt into the past, capturing the hype of the source material.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind nails the look and feel of both Power Rangers and the classic arcade games it’s drawing inspiration from. While the Super Scaler levels can be a bit of a mixed bag, they sing when they work, and they’re still only manageably frustrating when they don’t. Everything else, though, rules — the gorgeous sprite work, bumping soundtrack, rock-solid beat ‘em up gameplay, in-jokes for fans, and other little touches like playable in-universe arcade games. And while nostalgia will certainly enhance the experience for some, you don’t have to know your Green Ranger from your Black Ranger to enjoy it. It might even give you an itch to revisit the classic games, or give the original television series a watch. You may not be able to go down to your local arcade anymore, but if Rita’s Rewind is any indication, you can always go back in time. Just pack some spandex.

Rita's Rewind is a wonderful love letter to Power Rangers and old-school beat 'em ups, meaning it should easily appeal to fans of either or both. Results vary when it strays into different genres, but at no point does it ever stop being fun to play. It's short, and the voice samples are repetitive, but as long as you can cope with that it's thoroughly enjoyable.

It may not be an all-time standout among beat 'em ups, but Rita’s Rewind is the Power Rangers’ best cooperative outing yet.

At the end of the day, Rita’s Rewind wins me over on the nostalgia bomb of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers content. It’s the complete audio-visual package of 90s aesthetic with a welcome evolution of the MMPR gameplay loop. Some of this gameplay loop may be frustrating and unforgiving, but it’s still a hell of a lot of fun.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is a charming nostalgic beat-‘em-up that successfully captures the essence of the original show. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge or Streets of Rage 4—currently the benchmarks in the classic side-scrolling beat-’em-up genre—it offers a good variety of levels and a simple yet enjoyable gameplay experience. The diverse range of enemies adds to the fun, especially when playing with friends. However, the lack of move variety between the different characters and certain less polished sections—like the shooter-style stages—bring down the overall quality somewhat. That said, anyone looking for a solid beat-’em-up to enjoy with friends, particularly fans of the series, will likely have a great time. It’s a delightful throwback that might just transport you back to afternoons spent shouting “Go Go Power Rangers!” at the TV, much to the bemusement of your parents.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind leans heavily into the arcade era of video games with its look, sound and gameplay. It's a tonne of fun especially in co-op, but its short runtime will leave you wanting for more. If you're a fan of the MMPR series then this will definitely put a smile on your face.

Out of all of the Power Rangers games I’ve played in the last decade, Rita’s Rewind is the one that most honestly captures the cheesy fun, flashy martial arts, and attitude of the series’ first few iconic seasons. It is to the Rangers what Shredder’s Revenge is to the Turtles, a celebration of a dorky thing so many people loved as kids—and perhaps still do as big kids.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is a fun, albeit relatively bare bones, experience which gets by more on its nostalgic charm and great presentation, than it does on being anything more than a competent beat ‘em up. The addition of on-rails levels and first-person fights are welcomed, and the variety of levels and the added time disrupter elements keep the game fresh for its short run time, but lack of combat moves and frustrating Megazord boss fights keep Rita’s Rewind from ever reaching the lofty heights it aims for.

Rita’s Rewind is an enjoyable throwback that Power Rangers fans will appreciate, but its frustrating flaws prevent it from becoming a standout in the beat-'em-up revival.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Revenge leaves a lot to the future. If the DLC and future patches make the game faster, and more enjoyable, then you'll have a solid game on your hands. In it's current state, it's slow, it's repetitive, and some features are admittingly missing. A wise man once said "A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever." MMPR: RR is somewhere in the middle.

Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind’s simplicity and short pace sadly mean that it doesn’t come close to trading blows with the bar-setting Shredder’s Revenge like I hoped. Still, by lovingly capturing the series’ trademark energy, providing simple but satisfying brawling goodness, and setting itself apart with unique Zord sections, it manages to be a good time and a treat for hardcore fans. I just wish there was a little more to it and a lot more of it.

While the issues we have with the combat bring it down a bit, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind ultimately succeeds in delivering a nostalgic dose of fun that fans of the franchise are going to love. It's not the best beat-'em-up in recent years, but its clear reverence for the source material, variety of stages, and well-pitched presentation make it a real feel-good game.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind does a great of evoking the 90's TV series with solid use voice samples and some charming presentational touches. Unfortunately, the brawling has issues with collision. As nice as it controls, some of the vehicle sections can be busy and time consuming and the Megazord fights can develop into a real chore. It's a shame because the beginning shows so much promise. It doesn't quite come together with some strong highs undercut by some awkward choices.

Simply put, I wish that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind was more fleshed out when it comes to its basic brawler gameplay.

A gorgeous retro homage to early 90s kids TV and video games, but where the total lack of depth and challenge leaves little for even fans to get their teeth into.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind combines beat 'em up action with arcade-style shooting, but neither element is particularly impressive. And so, this is an experience that only the most ardent and patient Power Rangers fans are likely to love.

I was so excited by the prospect of Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, it looked like a vivid nostalgia infused dream-game for 9-year-old me. Don’t be fooled though, this is not the game your inner child has been looking for. Repetitive and lacking in imagination and finesse, Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind should be rewound and begun again.
