Metal Gear Solid Delta might be the least necessary remake ever produced, but it might be my favorite remake for exactly that reason. It’s just Snake Eater with modern graphics and controls, and that’s actually more than I’ve come to expect from the industry these days. By being such a faithful reissue, Delta has secured its place as the definitive way I play MGS3 - I can’t say that about any of the more imaginative remakes we’ve seen in recent years.

Re-creating a masterpiece is no easy feat, but with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami has delivered a near-flawless remake of one of gaming's greatest titles. This stunning recreation, built in Unreal Engine 5, retains the iconic story, superb voice acting, and memorable soundtrack of the 2004 classic while modernizing the graphics and controls. By staying true to the original's vision and adding new accessibility features, this remake is the definitive way for both veterans and newcomers to experience the genius of Metal Gear Solid 3.

If you’ve played Metal Gear Solid 3 before, then you know what you want. Do you want Metal Gear Solid 3 exactly as you remember it, but looking much better and running much better? If so, then great- you want Metal Gear Solid Δ. That’s that. Have you never played Metal Gear Solid 3, been interested, but deterred by the fact that the game is 20 years old? If so, then great – you want Metal Gear Solid Δ. Just get it, you know you want it. It’s as good as a remake is ever going to be.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater respects the original but enhances it with modern QoL upgrades and stunning visuals. Thanks to the choice between Legacy and New Style, it plays smoothly for both veterans and newcomers.

It’s classic Kojima stuff, overexplaining every aspect of the story and even things that have no bearing on the plot at all. You can seek some of this out by calling your handlers and having optional chats, but there are at least three hours of cutscenes here by default. Still, like many of the other best games of the time, this is designed to be played and played, looking for better times and results, so you’ll be skipping them all by your second playthrough anyway, which is arguably when the game comes into its own — when you work toward those no-alerts, no kills runs.

When contemplating the perfect remaster, less is often better, and the dev team behind this remaster has touched every aspect of the original game, filing away its rough edges without disturbing its balance or original design. This is the perfect remaster of a masterpiece that evokes every emotion the original did in 2004, only making it more palpable to a 2025 crowd.

MGS Delta is a must-play for series veterans and newcomers alike. With it, Konami has taken one of gaming's greatest achievements and respectfully recreated it with little interference other than gorgeous new visuals and a modern-day control scheme to make it more accessible to everyone.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater took one of the greatest games of all time and managed to raise it to an even higher level. It may not be for everyone, but it’s an outstanding experience. A true videogame masterpiece, with a refreshing new-gen touch that feels very welcome. More than twenty years later, we’re still in a dream.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater joins the ranks of the select few that exemplify how a remake should be done: it captures the essence of what made the original a critically acclaimed experience while updating its decades-old mechanics and visuals to meet modern standards. The frame rate occasionally dips during heavier scenes, but this remake has undoubtedly established itself as the definitive way to experience what many consider to be the best game in the franchise.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta: Snake Eater preserves everything that made the original one of the best games ever, mostly by changing as little as possible outside its visuals and a few gameplay updates that smooth things out. While it may be a tad more difficult to recommend to those who already own the remaster or who have a PS2 with the original at the ready, this is an excellent version of one of the best games ever made.

As a remake, it can be mildly jarring as the new clashes with the old, but if you’re able to transport yourself back to 2004, and appreciate an iconic title with a stunning coat of new paint, Snake Eater is undoubtedly worth checking out.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is perhaps the best version of the game possible. Konami tuned the graphics, added nice gameplay and quality-of-life additions. The graphics is stealing the focus and 3D audio is welcome. The best games tend to age very slowly – this is another fine example.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is exactly the kind of return the legendary third installment deserves. Its visuals and attention to detail are breathtaking, from weather effects and mud clinging to your gear to the gradual wear on camouflage and scars on the protagonist’s body. Delta stands as the ultimate version of one of the greatest games ever made and the current pinnacle of stealth-action.

A benchmark for how remakes should be done – faithful to the original, yet modern in all the right ways.

On the one hand, we’re talking about the game that is to Kojima what Dr. Strangelove is to Stanley Kubrick (i.e. the masterpiece in a resume that basically has no misses). Even considering how brilliant Death Stranding is, Metal Gear Solid 3 is just something special, meaningful, and important as a work of art. It’s hard to see how anyone could improve on it, so it didn’t really need a “remake” in the way some other titles do. On the other hand, this really isn’t a new game, and while it wouldn’t be fair to say the remake’s efforts were “lazy,” it’s also hard to shake the feeling that where the Silent Hill 2 remake was exciting by virtue of how new it was, this is just that game, that we’ve already played and loved to death, in a prettier dress. But hey, if you’ve somehow not played Metal Gear Solid 3 before, this is going to blow your mind.

Overall, Metal Gear Solid Delta is a superb remake of probably the best stealth action game ever made. It’s even more impressive that this was achieved with an insane level of accuracy in a completely separate engine and toolset. I would even go so far as to say that this version supersedes the original in almost every way, and comes highly recommended to anyone who wants to crawl on their belly through a jungle while eating snakes.

Konami has improved on near-perfection by leaving all the original story beats, cutscene direction and dialogue alone, and instead, focused all of its attention on improving the visuals and gameplay experience. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a masterpiece reborn. I envy those who are new to this series, who are going to experience this game for the very first time, but for those returning, they will have a long-lost love rekindled.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a fantastic version of an absolute masterpiece, and one I’d wholly recommend to anyone. As a remake, it’s incredibly beholden to the original, to a point that is almost too faithful outside of minor tweaks to gameplay and a visual overhaul. That isn’t inherently a bad thing, but does mean it won’t have too much fresh to offer those returning to it.

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater Delta builds on the rock-solid foundations of the 2004 classic, delivering a gripping narrative and updated gameplay that raise the bar for an already outstanding experience. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the remake refines countless mechanics from the original, significantly improving quality of life and making the game more accessible to a new generation of players unfamiliar with Big Boss. That said, while the results are impressive, some longtime fans may feel a tinge of disappointment. A deeper overhaul of environments and design elements, which are showing their 21-year-old origins, would have been a welcome step forward. The good news, however, is that Konami has decided to revisit the Metal Gear Solid saga, and Delta stands as a promising foundation for future projects; and these will demand not just careful restoration, but also a bit more courage.

One of the most faithful remakes ever, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has made a stealth classic feel modern all over again. Its light but meaningful gameplay updates enhance interaction and feel, while a visual overhaul allows it to rub shoulders with the PS5’s graphical elite. Did everything here age well? Heck no. Is it still a long-winded exposition bomb at multiple points? Absolutely. But if you’re here because of the original, I want you to know that everything in the OG Snake Eater that might have made you happy, sad, and/or mad, are all still here. All of the action, all of the stealth, all of the cheesy one-liners… For those of you who are jumping in for the first time? Have some patience and try to enjoy the rollercoaster. This one is definitely for the fans.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is more than just a remake: it's a celebration of one of the most defining chapters in video game history. This remake stays very faithful (perhaps too faithful) to the original work, preserving both the story it’s known for and its core gameplay. However, it features noticeable graphical improvements, a new over-the-shoulder control scheme, enhancements to the camouflage system, and refined stealth mechanics. While it doesn’t introduce major changes, it still stands as an essential title.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is as good, if not better, than the original, thanks to the myriad of quality-of-life improvements that make it more up to modern functional standards. There’s a common dilemma that no matter how well it's done, a remake of a beloved original can never quite surpass it. However, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater faithfully recreates the original and, with its new camera system, offers a fresh perspective that makes it worth experiencing all over again. Still, some of the scenes from 20 years ago inevitably come across as awkward by today’s standards.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater delivers a visually stunning and faithful remake of the stealth-action classic, blending modern enhancements with the iconic core experience. While the upgraded controls, camera, and animations improve accessibility and immersion, some of these modern features also reduce the original game's difficulty and tension, slightly shifting the balance that made it so memorable.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a fantastic game because the title it's based on is splendid. Konami offers excellent graphics in this new version. The only problem is that there was room to modernize elements of the original game while still maintaining respect for the work, but the developer decided to play safe. This means that if you're expecting something different from what you've known for over 20 years, you'll be disappointed. On the other hand, for those looking to relive Snake's adventure or experience the saga for the first time, Metal Gear Solid Delta is an excellent option.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a callback to one of the most exciting time periods in gaming history. A time where games weren't afraid to take big swings and miss, but it's only thanks to that fearlessness that we're able to experience true innovation and creativity. Delta doesn't do anything new, but it doesn't need to. Sometimes, all a masterpiece needs is a fresh coat of paint.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an authentic recreation of a masterpiece. Each aspect of the visuals has been beautifully and faithfully modernized with painstaking attention to detail. Although Konami has only reworked minor elements, these aspects combine to improve the overall experience. Even though the game does show its age at points, it's still undoubtedly one of the greatest adventure games and Delta ensures a new generation can experience it at its very best.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is a worthy addition to the saga, proving that Kojima and Konami’s formula is still alive and well. It still feels like a brand-new game and remains one of the greatest of all time. Back in 2004, and now again today, that’s nothing short of a nuclear bomb.

A monument in preserving gaming history, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater allows players to re-experience the beginnings of the historic stealth-action series without some of the friction of older hardware. The updated graphics capture the original vision perfectly and the reworked controls make gameplay smoother than ever without losing the tactical finesse that made this cult classic so popular. Unfortunately it appears that the Playstation 5 is struggling to keep up with the improvements and performance is rough on both graphical modes on offer.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater respects its source material in ways that other games should follow suit. The story is retained, each emotional gutpunch hits home just as hard (if not harder), and the core stealth gameplay that you and I grew to love in our adolescence is preserved. While it’s hard to ignore that this MGS lacks Kojima and the segmented maps are archaic, it’s just as hard to ignore that this iteration of MGS3 is the faithful modernization you and I deserve.

Reviving a beloved and influential classic is challenging, but Konami succeeds in updating Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the modern era with Metal Gear Solid Delta. The remake remains almost identical in gameplay and cutscenes, preserving the spirit of the original, while introducing vastly improved—though occasionally sluggish—visuals. Despite some mechanics beginning to show their age, the gameplay still feels remarkably relevant in 2025, underscoring just how groundbreaking the original was. More than just a faithful recreation, Metal Gear Solid Delta is a fully realized AAA release and a priceless gift to longtime fans of the series.

Konami and Virtuos deliver a visually stunning and faithful update of the PS2 classic, with modernized controls, streamlined camouflage and Codec access, and fun extras like the Ape Escape mode, but the dated AI, excessive interruptions, and some conservative design choices prevent it from feeling like a true remake.
  51. Aug 22, 2025
    85
Konami hasn't taken too many risks with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a very conservative reworking of the PS2 classic. But they've managed to enhance the original game's strengths, as its gameplay, setting, story, and characters still have the same impact in 2025 as they did 20 years ago.
  52. Aug 22, 2025
    85
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is a visually stunning and meticulously crafted remake that remains deeply faithful to one of the most beloved video game masterpieces of all time. Every scene, line of dialogue, and camera angle is recreated with near-religious reverence, capturing the emotional and cinematic power of the 2004 original in crisp, modern detail. But this same unwavering loyalty is also its greatest limit: the gameplay, AI, level design, and many of the mechanics from two decades ago now feel noticeably dated, and Konami has made very few efforts to modernize them. Longtime fans will find a familiar and lovingly restored experience, but for those experiencing Naked Snake's journey for the first time, this version may feel a bit stiff.
  53. Aug 22, 2025
    85
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a faithful remake that brings Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece into the present with the power of Unreal Engine 5, focusing primarily on aesthetics while only lightly touching the framework of the mechanics. It’s an exceptionally complete edition, packed with extra content, whose purpose lies in its contemporary presentation, the modernization of its core dynamics, and a host of quality-of-life improvements. Its only real limitation stems from the reverence the publisher feels toward the original — and it’s a justified reverence, since Snake Eater was and remains a sensational video game, a magnificent spy story brimming with the brilliant ideas of its Japanese creator. The remake can be considered a success: there’s room for some flair and a few welcome surprises, but Konami ultimately lacked the courage to fully reconcile modernity with the game’s more classic soul, opting instead to satisfy those who desired blind fidelity to the original and daring only when it was certain there was no real risk.
  54. Aug 22, 2025
    85
Metal Gear Solid Delta succeeds in its bet to bring a legendary game up to date. 21 years after its release, MGS 3 remains a masterpiece thanks to its incredible storyline, memorable characters, and fast-paced adventure that never gets boring. For new players, its 4K visual overhaul with realistic rendering and comfort options make it an excellent entry point, while fans will be delighted to find all the content surrounding this episode in a single game. But for fear of distorting the original work, Konami has kept some flaws, such as an inconsistent artificial intelligence, but above all, gameplay marked by a certain heaviness that will discourage more than one. In any case, it's hard to deny the pleasure of seeing MGS return to the forefront, hoping that it leads to a new adventure next time.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a truly remarkable remake, crafted with great care. On the one hand, it shines for the many merits of the absolute masterpiece it's based on, and on the other, it offers newcomers a valuable entry point to the saga. After all, it's a memorable prequel to all the other installments in the franchise, effectively modernized for the occasion, both graphically and gameplay-wise. Achieving a noteworthy result given the weight of the original work was far from easy, but despite a few minor flaws, the team succeeded, and we're happy with that. For this reason, too, especially on the higher difficulty levels, we recommend a stroll down memory lane in Unreal Engine even for longtime fans of the series. After all, Delta doesn't replace Metal Gear Solid 3, which—like the timeless gaming juggernaut that it is—is still there, playable on modern consoles. The numerical rating you find below is to be understood as being linked solely and exclusively to the operation implemented by Konami, which given its quality gives us hope for the possible future of Metal Gear Solid remakes.

I feel confident that the new gameplay mechanics, quality-of-life improvements, and immense visual overhaul in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater far outweigh the issues that come along with the changes. This gives more players a new way to experience the beloved classic, complete with more modern controls and mechanics without taking away from the original feel of the game.
  57. Aug 21, 2025
    85
Overall, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a well done remaster of a game that remains as classic as it ever was. The changes are a mix of positive and negative, but there aren't any that drag down the experience. At worst, they're a matter of preference. For many people, this title is likely to be the optimal way to experience Metal Gear Solid 3, and it's easy to be impressed by the sheer amount of work that went into capturing the classic original.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, with updated visuals and gameplay, plays it safe and is a competent remake of one of Hideo Kojima’s greatest classics. However, its new ideas don’t always blend well with the old ones, which can create some oddities. Even so, this is a successful effort by Konami and should earn the company some credit among fans.

Delta is a remake that walks a tightrope between admiration and routine. It takes your breath away when you traverse the jungle as Snake, yet it constantly reminds you that you are experiencing something already seen, merely dressed in new lights and polygons. Konami has done an impeccable job technically, but without Kojima’s wild touch, everything remains predictable, elegant, yet lacking the spark that made the original an unforgettable experience.

The return of one of the best PlayStation 2 games, with greatly improved graphics despite occasional performance issues, but very conservative in terms of gameplay, which may be perfect for classic gamers but may struggle to attract new players. Metal Gear Solid Delta is a great way to experience the all-time classic, whether for the first time or as a nostalgic trip. The gameplay elements feel fresh thanks to their original, groundbreaking nature and their corresponding refined, polished upgrades. However, for its price, there were no valid motives not to remake the whole story and dialogues from scratch as well, which ultimately held this game back from the possibility of being one of the best remakes of all time.

This new version of the game will definitely be someone's first foray into the entire Metal Gear Solid franchise, which is honestly the biggest and most important thing about the whole Delta release. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a curious beast. A remaster masquerading as a remake. The updated graphics and change of perspective help the underlying game continue to shine, but you can’t help wondering what the point of it is. Even more so when you consider that Konami released a port of Snake Eater for modern consoles just under two years ago. In many ways, it feels like a test for the other remakes that may inevitably follow. The original Metal Gear Solid will no doubt take a lot more work to bring it up to date than Snake Eater. A game that still holds up spectacularly despite its age, because it was very much ahead of its time.

Metal Gear Delta - using the Greek letter that signifies change or difference in mathematics - takes the inner-core of the Snake Eater from two decades ago and acts as a new shell around it, largely superficially with some mechanical adjustments. It is a new wrapper for an old candy bar, a new doll with an extraneous new hat, a dusting of makeup before taking the stage, and despite all of those caveats, it’s still a new coat of paint for one of the most incredible gaming experiences of all time.

Remakes serve a double purpose: they aren’t just about introducing classics to a new generation, but about preserving them. Metal Gear Solid 3’s story is a corker: it was always going to hold up brilliantly. But it’s a relief and a blessing that the gameplay stands up surprisingly well too. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is surely the definitive way to experience one of the greatest games of all time.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater doesn’t make all of the changes it should have, but it’s hard to strike the balance between quality of life improvements, and weakening the original. Konami has drawn this line at the toes of the original without addressing a few areas that were in need of improvement. Delta is still a version of the best games of all time, but without desired improvements it might not be the definitive one.

I would have liked a little more courage: Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater plays the “remake game” as safely as possible so as not to scare off old fans. However, this overlooks the fact that not everything about the original was perfect for a long time - especially from a modern perspective. But Konami's luck is that the original game was still pretty great then as it is now, and so it remains so in this version.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater does exactly what we wanted it to. It's a way to play the PS2 classic on modern hardware, with a fresh coat of paint, and contemporary controls. While those looking for a more expansive remake may be left wanting, translating much of MGS 5's excellent gameplay to the PS2 classic is more than enough for us. After a difficult decade, Metal Gear is back.

With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami has achieved what it set out to do: breathe new life into a classic while keeping it as authentic as possible. With that in mind, its only real faults are some mechanics which now feel a little awkward and dated. The visuals here are phenomenal, bringing more nuance to the game's cutscenes, and the new modern play style is great for newcomers and those annoyed by the restrictive camera of the original game.

Comprehensive modernizations, useful QoL features, and a spectacular graphics update: While not entirely free of some grating gameplay anachronisms, this is still the best possible version of Kojima's legendary classic.

It's pretty easy to argue that even the smallest changes, such as Eva's significantly altered appearance due to the recreation of the game's graphical assets in Unreal Engine 5, have drained the game of some of its edgy charm, but Konami has also remained extremely faithful to the game that many, including myself, love so much. It's harder to forgive the minor performance glitches here and there, and two slightly mediocre graphics settings on console, but at the same time, this is still an excellent way for newcomers to be introduced to the series, and a striking homage for connoisseurs.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a good remake, but it's a step below contemporary games that have taken that route to connect with the past. Although it's rough around the edges, it manages to respect Kojima Productions' original work, so beyond the audiovisual improvements and gameplay improvements, you'll have in your hands the same great game from 2004. Nothing more, nothing less.

The million-dollar question is: Is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater better than Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater? There's no clear answer, and everyone will have a different conclusion. At the end of the day, Konami and Virtuos' remake doesn't replace the original, which is currently available in the Master Collection, and it does a very superficial job of justifying its existence beyond reviving interest in the series and generating money. The title leaves something to be desired, but—and this is the main dilemma—this remains one of the best games in history, but one of the least interesting remakes in recent years.

In the end, the simplicity in the modernization of some elements of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater left me frustrated, but even so, I loved revisiting one of my favorite games of all time with graphics and gameplay remodeled for today. Everything new in this remake makes it great, but what makes it incredible and a masterpiece is not the work of Virtuos, but rather Kojima Productions, which created a timeless game in 2004.

Metal Gear Solid Delta captures the essence of the original to a T, but fails to expand on it.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a great opportunity for both new audiences and longtime fans to relive Snake’s iconic Cold War mission. Its story remains just as engaging, and the graphics are visually appealing. However, the gameplay hasn’t received substantial changes, making it feel like a fresh coat of paint on a title that shows its age.

So, the big question is whether this is worth revisiting with the HD collection with the original already existing. For me it is a mixed bag. I loved revisiting this absolute classic. The new visuals really do look amazing, and the minor quality of life improvements make it easier to just enjoy the game. Still, I would have loved to see so much more included or updated.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater manages to live up to its own legacy thanks to the forward-thinking design of the original, but takes no risks beyond a more approachable control scheme. It is because Kojima pushed the limits of interactivity and stuck to timeless themes in his writing that even a copy-pasted version of it is still effective over 20 years later, though with a few embarrassing relics of the past. In that way, the legacy of the original is perfectly preserved here. But it does raise the question of whether or not we even needed it.

Being perhaps what you might expect, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake that is far from an out-there reinvigoration, instead opting to refine and fine-tune elements of its past rather than offering much new. That can take away from the grandeur and excitement of the experience a little, and it’s undoubtedly not helped by the choice to favour fidelity of environments and character models rather than the stylistic filtering and other artistic decisions we know and love the original for. With Delta, there’s now ironically a bit of an oroborous situation for Snake Eater, where the cycle continues, bringing a wonderful and memorable tale to audiences old and new, but also harming itself and its image in the process. Still, a bloody good game is a bloody good game. You’re in safe hands, wading through the dense forestry with Snake, and to many, the journey to a 1960s USSR setting will feel like coming home.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater makes great effort in updating the original games' presentation with some truly next-gen visuals. However, in that process, performance issues and changes in art direction are bound to be divisive with fans of the original. This remake then, while not quite definitive, is bound to be an acquired taste. Regardless, it's almost impossible to ignore that the game underneath Delta's slick presentation is still one of the strongest experiences you can play, and that's still worth celebrating.

Snake Eater's remake truly shines in its visuals, delivering an excellent modernization of what is arguably the best title in the Metal Gear series. However, its extreme faithfulness to the original also revives several dated limitations, such as the clunky A.I. and the overly compartmentalised jungle.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is, by and large, mission accomplished. The original Metal Gear Solid 3 has been ported wholesale, with as few changes made as possible in order to retain its heart and soul. The improved graphics are great and the quality of life changes are solid — just don’t expect some grand reimagining of the 2004 classic beyond a modernised camera angle. It is still brilliant to play and the story remains engaging all these years later, making this the new best way to play MGS3 despite its lack of new features and content.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater isn’t the bold reimagining some fans might have hoped for. Instead, it’s a visually stunning update that preserves the 2004 classic almost to the letter : story, voice acting, cinematics, and gameplay included, with all their dated quirks. Unreal Engine 5 delivers impressive character models, environments, and lighting, but the clunky mechanics, outdated AI, and stiff animations remind you of the game’s age. For newcomers, it’s still a fantastic gateway into Snake’s world of stealth and espionage. For veterans, it’s a nostalgic return, faithful, polished, but not revolutionary.

Overall, this is a good chance to revisit one of the defining early stealth action games that really led to many future titles’ signature gameplay, like the Hitman and even Assassin’s Creed series. If you’ve played it before there’s not enough here to warrant another pass. But for those seeking a nostalgia hit, or to try a classic they may have missed, it’s well worth a look.

Remaking Metal Gear without its creator seems foolhardy but this is as good an effort as could be imagined, without completely redesigning the original game.

MGS3: Snake Eater is one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The remake, although it could have been done better, will also allow you to taste some of its genius. This release is beautiful in some parts, but it suffers most from the inconsistency resulting from the fact that, despite its beautiful presentation, it is inherently rooted in the PS2 era and runs poorly on UE5.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is an excellent remake that will appeal to both longtime fans and new players alike. Its visual overhaul and modernized gameplay make it a huge hit and relaunch the franchise in a positive direction, much like Silent Hill 2 Remake did. Unlike the latter, however, there is no risk-taking here. Metal Gear Solid Delta is a 1:1 remake peppered with fan service. While it allows players to discover this masterpiece, it adds nothing new. The game retains all its flavor, quality, and flaws, which mainly concern its gameplay inaccuracies and AI weaknesses from another era. In an effort not to offend anyone by offering a game that takes no risks, Konami sometimes creates a strange sense of dissonance between nostalgia and modernity. This results in gameplay issues that didn't exist at the time, as well as mechanics that no longer seem as coherent as they once did. That said, it's hard not to enjoy it and recommend it, as it's currently the best way to discover this incredible game.

Metal Gear Solid Delta doesn’t change the game; it rather does the bare minimum to bring itself up to date. Fortunately for it, MGS 3 is a fantastic game, with undeniable charm and rich creativity, even today. It’s an adventure you finish with pleasure and enjoy replaying over and over to master every aspect of it, making it a worthwhile investment. On the other hand, one can’t help but feel that Metal Gear Solid 3 deserved better. The result here is that MGS 3 is still a highly effective soldier, strong as ever, but trapped in a body whose only youth lies in its aesthetics. It’s up to you to decide what you truly expect from it.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a game in an odd place. I get the reverence to the original, especially with series creator Hideo Kojima no longer involved, and the bad blood that ensued between him and Konami. I get the hesitancy to retouch a game considered as one of the greatest ever made. But then, I question what the point of remaking Snake Eater is at all, if you’re going to try and keep everything exactly the same.

While much of MGS Delta does qualify as a remake, other aspects felt like Konami was simply cutting corners and, if anything, playing it a bit too safe. The result is a game that is still a ton of fun to play and is likely the best way to play Snake Eater in 2025. Still, with the original version of Metal Gear Solid 3 readily available on modern platforms, I would have preferred Delta to take some bolder swings and be reimagined from the ground up to truly differentiate it from its source.

With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami has crafted a visually arresting re-release so fawning and reverent that it reads entirely incurious. Fans of the source material will no doubt relish the opportunity to play a more modern-feeling take on a generational piece of art, but such a seemingly important work should inspire more.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater looks fantastic, runs smoothly and offers plenty to do after the credits roll -- all while being a remake of arguably the best entry in the series. Fans are going to love it. If you've never played MGS3 and are curious, this remake is a must. But if that doesn't describe you, it's not an immediate pick-up.

Metal Gear Solid Delta breathes new life into Snake Eater, making the classic Cold War stealth adventure look and play better than ever. Konami has said that it’s starting its Metal Gear Solid remake plans with Snake Eater, specifically because of its chronological place in the franchise. Based on how well Delta turned out, I’m excited to see where Konami’s remake resources go next, hoping for more lavishly polished remakes of games that, at least mechanically, may not hold up so well. But I also hope that Konami exhibits a bit more confidence next time, and takes more chances with Kojima’s work. He’s moved on, and so should the team overseeing the future of Metal Gear.

Without the benefit of nostalgia, my perspective — that is, someone who is experienced with all the other Metal Gear games but has not touched this one — puts me in a weird space. The gorgeous visuals and eccentric story make it appear like a perfect fit for me. But Delta left me feeling frustrated in its (deliberately designed) helplessness and old-school structure. It left me wanting to be anywhere else rather than in the jungles with that beloved weirdo Snake.
