LEVEL (Czech Republic)Jan 17, 2024It doesn't matter that the second Spider-Man doesn't really move the gameplay forward and offers, with a few variations, just another helping of what worked in the previous two games. But in this case, we're really talking about excellence, so any experimentation and novelty could lead to disappointment. [Issue#331]
-
Oct 29, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 perfectly captures the superhero experience from start to finish without sacrificing smart, thoughtful storytelling.
-
Oct 24, 2023Insomniac’s New York City isn’t an empty place for the player to destroy at will, Peter and Miles aren’t audience ciphers, and the story isn’t there for padding.
-
Oct 23, 2023One of the most fantastic gaming journeys you’ll take on this year, and a game that wraps up a magical arc for both Spider-Men. This is how you do a superhero trilogy, whether it’s a video game, a movie, or anything else.
-
Oct 19, 2023I could label Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as one of the best PlayStation 5 games, but the truth is that would be an understatement because Insomniac's sequel has gone straight into my top of the best games ever. The depth of the city, which has been expanded with additional districts, is impressive, the gameplay is always enjoyable and so is the combat. Marvel and Insomniac have outdone themselves on the narrative side, with a story about tragedy, overcoming, friendship and love. I can find room for improvement, in the AI of some opponents and in certain facial animations, for example, details that don't detract from what is an absolute masterpiece that we as gamers should applaud, hoping for more.
-
Oct 17, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a confident sequel that tells a bold, emotional story and sets a new standard for superhero games in the process. Across a memorable and challenging campaign, a meaningfully expanded combat system makes set pieces and boss fights sing. But it’s the profound side stories hiding in the open world that balance out the superhero stakes with a healthy dose of hopeful humanity.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a phenomenal action game that will make everyone feel like Spider-Man again, but with even more madness, with even more intensity, a larger scale, more spectacular fights and even more cinematography. The game is a love letter to all Spider-Man fans, delivering everything it promised and leaving many eager for Insomniac's next work.
-
Oct 16, 2023The first half of Spider-Man 2’s narrative can feel a bit slow, but the superb open world and emotional second half more than make up for it. This is a compact and tight experience that feels laser-focused on delivering an experience that always feels varied and exciting. It universally succeeds in that vision and takes the crown for the best superhero game ever made.
-
Oct 16, 2023By overhauling the first game's already spectacular exploration and Arkham-like combat, as well as creating the series’ best story yet, Insomniac has made Spider-Man 2 the pinnacle of open-world action games.
-
Oct 16, 2023It is a genuine pleasure to play something that has been so lovingly envisaged, and which is so true to its source material. It’s a game everyone with a PS5 should experience, augmented by an admirable range of accessibility options to ensure as wide a group of potential players as possible can be Spider-Man. This is what mainstream action adventure video games should be: a big, wholehearted fantasy, invested with rewarding details and loaded with conflict and emotion. In all the ways that count, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the embodiment of that famous Stan Lee motto: Excelsior!
-
Oct 16, 2023I went into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 expecting it to be one of my favorite games this year and still walked away impressed by what the developer was able to pull off. Both story and gameplay have taken large steps forward, and I’m fully convinced that there is no studio that could make Spider-Man games better than Insomniac Games. It’s a massive win for the Insomniac, for PlayStation Studios, and for longtime fans of Spider-Man.
-
Oct 16, 2023A stunning achievement both technically and narratively, Spider-Man 2 makes every moment of gameplay feel epic while still delivering a great story with a ton of heart. The creators at Insomniac know and love these characters, and that care manifests both in the quieter moments and in the jaw-dropping cinematic action scenes. Thrilling, gut-wrenching, and visually spectacular, this is among the best representations of Spider-Man in any media. An absolute no-brainer for every PlayStation 5 owner, Spider-Man 2 shows what your system is truly capable of.
-
Oct 16, 2023Truly a contender for Game of the Year, Spider-Man 2 is a game that justifies the purchase of a PS5 if you don't already own one.
-
Oct 16, 2023Still, the occasional bug aside, I absolutely loved Spider-Man 2, and I’m happy to see that Insomniac continues to knock it out of the park with this series. Miles has been a great addition to the Spider-Man universe overall, and if you loved Miles Morales: Spider-Man, I think you’ll be really happy with all the focus he gets in this one as well. While the limelight is sort of shared evenly throughout the game between Peter and Miles, it’s hard not to continuously root for Miles as a character, and he becomes even more central to the overall storyline here in a way that feels pretty impactful overall. So if you’ve been looking forward to the upcoming release of Spider-Man 2, then you can rest assured that you’ve got an excellent Spidey game to look forward to in the near future.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the ultimate superhero game and an apex of the genre. Insomniac Games deserves its rightful place as PlayStation’s champion, satisfying every requirement to make a spectacle of Sony’s interactive entertainment. Few sequels possess the confidence to not merely go bigger but do better. From its rich, dense open world to its gripping main narrative Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sets out to be greater. Instead it achieves greatness, rivaling perfection.
-
Oct 16, 2023What a game. Web-crawlingly brilliant at every turn. Top marks Spidey, top marks.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is exceptional. In your hands, it’s the best a superhero game has ever felt. On your eyes, it’s a pure tour de force of what the PlayStation 5 can do. On your heart, it’s heavy, enticing, exciting. The open world is a tonic, the characters are a riot, the villains are unbelievable in the best way. Suspend your disbelief in a neat little web above your head, dive in with your mask pulled tight over your face, and prepare yourself for the daftest, most earnest action game of 2023. It’s a 20-or-so hour hoot you’re not going to be able to put down until the post-credits scene has rolled.
-
Oct 16, 2023It's hard to write about – and indeed review – Marvel's Spider-Man 2 without spoiling it. Just know that this takes everything from the previous games and improves on each aspect considerably. It looks nicer, plays better, and is packed with much more variety. It's the story here that's the biggest delight, though, filled with genuine surprises, heartfelt moments and epic scenes that will stick in your mind for a long time to come. Spider-Man is no stranger to adjectives such as "amazing" and "spectacular", both of which can be applied to Marvel's Spider-Man 2. More than just an accomplished sequel, it's the best superhero game ever made.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is hands-down the best game of the PS5 era so far. It’s visually stunning, narratively brilliant, and somehow manages to improve Insomniac’s already stellar traversal and combat from previous Spidey games. It’s a masterpiece.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is exactly what fans could have hoped for. It brings the trilogy of PlayStation titles home perfectly, and provides an experience any fan of the Spider-Man property will walk away from satisfied. Don't miss out on what could very well be one of the best games of the year, and one of Insomniac's best games to date.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man is an incredibly confident sequel and one of 2023's best. Incredibly fun to play, fast-paced and full of heart, it takes the best of the Spider-Man lore, and the best of Insomniac's penchant for excellent gameplay sequences, and combines them for arguably the best Marvel game ever.
-
Oct 16, 2023It's hard to find fault in a game that will no doubt have you hankering for a radioactive spider bite of your own. Reality being what it is, you’re better off playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 over and over again.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a masterful example of passionate game creation, blending a white-knuckle comic book adventure with the beautiful pathos of being human. It is sensational. It is spectacular. It is Spider-Man. (Two).
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 builds upon its strong foundation to present a captivating narrative and gameplay experience that stands in the franchise’s upper echelon of tales.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is the greatest superhero game ever made. Period. The way it builds off the foundation laid by 2018's Spider-Man is a shining example of how to create a sequel. It pulls no punches when evolving the experience, delivering an unforgettable ride that unequivocally demands your attention. Other developers need to take note - this is how you expand upon a franchise. Spider-Man 2 caught me in its web from the opening scene and didn't let go until the credits rolled. Now, excuse me; I need to go play it again and again and again.
-
Oct 16, 2023As a sequel to one of the most impressive games of its era, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was weighed down by expectations. But Insomniac Games has turned these expectations on their head, spinning a Spider-story that brims with confidence, style, and most importantly – an essential human touch.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 improves on its predecessor across the board, while saluting the superhero genre over the last 30 years as a whole. With a captivating narrative and unrivaled spectacle, it's the quintessential superhero game, in story and mechanical terms.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the triumphant continuation of an already spectacular series that raised the bar of superhero games. With a story that takes turns that I wouldn’t have expected, fluid combat with haptic feedback considerations, and an expansion of an already flawless and dynamic way to traverse the map, I was smiling all the way to the end from a thwipping great time.
-
Oct 16, 2023Don't expect meaningful choices that affect the rest of the game, dialogue options that push the story in a different direction, or the ultimate freedom to create a character and explore a vast universe. It's a blockbuster of the best kind. A popcorn movie where you follow an established storyline, but which is so addictive that you lose track of time. True to Marvel tradition, there is a scene in the middle and at the end of the (admittedly interminable) credits that paves the way for another sequel. Although it will be difficult for any sequel to top this game.
-
Oct 16, 2023After a tremendous introduction to the superhero lives of Peter Parker and Miles Morales on PS4, Insomniac Games has crafted an even better adventure that showcases the true power of PS5 hardware. A game that is streamlined, ambitious, emotional, and showcases the true potential of the superhero genre in a gaming medium.
-
Oct 16, 2023Full of emotional highs that will make you get out of your chair and cheer at the screen in a way that few games have managed to achieve in recent memory, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 represents Insomniac Games operating at the apex of its considerable powers. Spectacular and amazing, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a superior, spectacle stuffed action adventure that provides players with the ultimate superhero fantasy. Full of surprising heart and delicate moments that balance beautifully with the sort of blockbuster superhero bombast that its developer has refined to a fine art, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a toweringly polished, unparalleled masterwork that redefines the superhero video game genre at large and is better than the previous two games in every way imaginable. This is exactly what you've been waiting for.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a towering achievement in every metric; at the very least, it’s one of the PS5’s preeminent offerings.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 capitalizes on the heights of its predecessors and somehow makes New York big enough for the two web-slingers who inhabit it. What's more, it transforms villains from dated tropes to complex characters, and humanizes the people we save, and the ones who save us, in unforgettable ways. It's hands-down the best Spider-Man game I've ever played, and a strong contender for the best game of a stellar release year.
-
Jul 31, 2024Spider-Man 2 is what we want from a sequel, a much better story building on the foundations that the previous versions built, improving the gameplay in every possible way while the previous games are already among the best in terms of gameplay, using all the PS5’s powers and turning the game into a completely next-gen game, next-gen visuals, extraordinary and non-repetitive level design, deep characterization at the disposal of the story, use of dualsense’s features, much more entertaining boss fights, much better cutscenes and much better animations.
-
Nov 13, 2023Insomniac once again delivers an authentic Spider-Man experience with Spider-Man 2. With improvements across the board from previous installments and an expanded New York City to explore, any Spidey fan will enjoy this game. Even if you are not a fan or haven't played the previous games, Spider-Man 2 brings an amazing open-world experience that can make anyone a fan of Peter and Miles.
-
Oct 29, 2023While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is not without flaws, it’s so damn fun and engaging that you really don’t care about them. One of the best superhero video games ever made, period.
-
Oct 25, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a great sequel, combining the old and new with a fresh story, iconic characters, and instances of taking a side step and playing as MJ. It might feel repetitive after a while and a bit on the short side. But, it’s a quality webslinging experience that everyone should have, whether you’re a superhero fanatic or just a PlayStation gamer looking your next first-party fix. While it isn’t the best game on the market, it’s a stellar continuation to what will no doubt be a trilogy of webswinging action.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a celebration for anything related to gaming, and one of the best superhero games ever made.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac Games has done it again. Although in effect, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 starts from the already very well-built base of its two predecessors, the way in which it expands things in all departments makes it a must-see game for anyone looking for a great story, amazing graphics, a polished, deep and very fun combat system, as well as an open world that, although systematic, always has something to offer to accentuate the excellent game mechanics that are being presented to us, this with a rhythm that makes letting go of control really difficult.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac has nailed that rarest of video game development feats. The team has landed a trilogy of games that all stand strong on their own merits but unite into a sweeping saga made better by experiencing its entirety. While more Spider-Man games will inevitably expand this mythology in new directions, there’s no need to wait. With Spider- Man 2, the developer has found what makes superhero stories worth telling (and retelling) and given its likable heroes the journey they deserve.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man has never soared so high, bringing it home in a title full of heart, high-octane action and vibrant storytelling. This is the definitive superhero game.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a spectacular game. With deep gameplay and its duality between Miles and Peter it offers an experience that is undoubtedly the most incredible in terms of superhero video games. We will face a challenge that may be too tough sometimes, but the pleasure is simply enjoyable from start to finish. Between a dark and more mature story than the previous opus, and a totally crazy pace, Spider-Man 2 leaves us breathless.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is an incredibly strong follow-up that really sets the standard when it comes to superhero games. Its story is heartfelt and delivered by a genuinely likable cast of characters, and when it comes to traversal and combat, you won’t find a slicker experience out there. There’s still simply no better feeling than web-swinging through New York City. With an open world full of fun distractions and a level of polish by Insomniac Games that is unrivalled, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 really will make your senses tingle in the best way possible.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a straight-out-of-the-comicbooks masterpiece, and one of the best superhero games ever made. The narrative swings to heights writers dream of, and every aspect of the gameplay has been gone over and improved off of it’s already stellar design. Insomniac Games has proven lightning strikes several times, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is every adjective it’s namesake’s comic books carry, whether Superior, Ultimate, Spectacular, Sensational, or Amazing.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 manages to improve on the two already fantastic Spidey titles, featuring great gameplay and a gripping story.
-
Oct 16, 2023If the first hours of play lead us to believe that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is just a simple PS5 update of previous episodes, we quickly realize that the game goes much further! More beautiful and more detailed, the game stands out above all for its ultra spectacular staging. The gameplay is also more intense thanks to mechanics that improve the combat system. The treatment of Venom is fabulous, and he is the perfect epitome of what we expect from this iconic character. It has never been so well transcribed on screen, and for that, Insomniac Games must receive the highest praise. The other characters are not left out, whether Kraven, but also Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The studio has understood this universe so much that it must serve as a model for the MCU and Sony Pictures films, which have often failed in cinema.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the PlayStation Studios game that the PlayStation 5 was waiting for. It's a game you shouldn't miss. It's the best ever created by Insomniac Games and one of the best in the PlayStation catalog. It's an incredible experience that was worth the wait, featuring stunning graphics, a lively city, numerous side activities, menacing villains, captivating characters, and a narrative that makes you care about people's fate.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 improves on the original in every way: a more focused and engaging story, varied missions, a very agile travel system and combat on epic scale.
-
Oct 26, 2023A practically complete sequel that improves almost everything it can improve and offers us the best Spider-Man video game and one of the best superhero video games in history. Outstanding in every way, pampering both the main and the secondary and that will surely leave us wanting more.
-
Oct 16, 2023The Spider-Men take their adventure a step further to deliver an epic, intense and spectacular game that any fan of the superhero should play.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 improves upon all of its predecessors, and it brings to life a story full of incredible moments and tons of impressive action scenes. It definitely manages to hit the standards of the best PlayStation exclusives, with all the emotions and feelings it implies.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the perfect sequel, the best game from Insomniac Games and a new must-have in the PS5 catalog. It improves on the previous ones in absolutely every respect and has a much darker and more violent story, with two sensational villains.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 takes its place among the games as both the best comic book hero game and the best superhero game. If you're looking for a reason to buy a PlayStation 5, look no further.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac dresses Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in the black suit, improving to the extreme all the mechanics of the previous titles and adding new features that work in perfect symbiosis. The result is a rounded adventure that swings to the top and hits the ceiling of superhero games... And a dream for any Spider-Man fan.
-
Oct 16, 2023A superhero firework of the extra class. You don't want to miss this PS5 exclusive.
-
Oct 16, 2023With oodles of variety, rewarding combat, and eye-popping cinematic visuals, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is undoubtedly a game worth buying a PlayStation 5 for. It's one of the best action games ever made.
-
Oct 16, 2023The Spider-Man franchise, across, TV, comics, and games, has never been in better hands than it is right now. Only technical flaws hold Peter and Miles’ latest web-slinging adventure back from excellence.
-
PLAYNov 23, 2023For the most part a thrilling story with fist-pumping missions. New mechanics are a mixed bag – but it’s still one of the best superhero things ever. [Issue#34, p.74]
-
Nov 20, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the best technical showcase on PlayStation 5, one of the best games the platform can offer, and just a great Spider-Man story.
-
Nov 10, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is truly a result of great power used with a great responsibility. It is one of the most enjoyable and fun games I have ever played. Even with its predictable story, it is an audio-visual masterpiece that is full of love and passion for what this superhero represents. A truly great experience.
-
Oct 30, 2023A brilliant superhero game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 largely improves on the core formula while telling the most intimate, dramatic story yet.
-
Oct 23, 2023You absolutely need to play Spider-Man 2. Insomniac is the pinnacle Sony studio, showing off not only what it can do, but what the PS5 itself can do. I hope you like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart‘s portals, ’cause they’re about to take your mind for a spin.
-
Oct 17, 2023Thanks to excellent animations, rich and developed character and well-crafted surprises Spider-man 2 is one of the best super-hero games out there.
-
Oct 17, 2023More personal and more "out of costume" moments are part of one of the best superhero games we've seen ever. A natural evolution and improved in every aspect over the previous two installments that Insomniac worked to the last detail, and a must-have for any PlayStation 5 user.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 learns from its predecessors and perfects the formula. It's a game that doesn't mess around, and stands on an interesting story, amazing movement mechanics and action-packed combat. Pure and raw fun, a sequel worth playing.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 puts Miles and Peter in their biggest adventures so far, with the best Venom adaptation that has ever been made. The gameplay eventually becomes repetitive, but the charm and charisma of the main characters holds the quality together just as much the Spiders sling across New York.
-
Oct 16, 2023If you can thought the previous games were 'Amazing', then you will most likely call this Spider-Man2 'Spectacular'. It is armed with unique elements while brilliantly continuing the systems from previous titles, thereby elevating its quality as an action game. What's more, its cinematic narrative is so immersive that it leaves you anticipating the next installment immediately after you reach the ending.
-
Oct 16, 2023One of the best superhero games that not only delivers brilliantly staged blockbuster action, but is also narratively compelling.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a high-quality mega production of top quality and not only offers an astonishingly good story, but once again spectacular, extremely varied gameplay wrapped in stunning, sleek images. The sequel may not innovate hugely in terms of specific gameplay additions or tweaks, but as an overall package it's nothing short of AAA, and maybe even an extra A.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is exactly the sort of sequel you'd want it to be, and though it stumbles here and there, ultimately, it improves on its predecessors in almost every way that matters most.
-
Oct 16, 2023It may not reinvent the superhero video game format, but Spider-Man 2 refines what came before and gives us an adventure that carefully balances gameplay and storytelling while keeping us entertained even after the credits roll.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t do anything that blows you away, but it doesn’t matter when a game plays, looks, and sounds as good as this. It’s an improvement over the first game and proves how polished and slick a sequel can be when the developer is free to revisit and refine on top of solid foundations. Now we just cross our fingers and pray that Insomniac gets an 18-rating for its Wolverine game because it just might pull it off again.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a great sequel to a great game. It's bigger and more focused, and it captures everything that made the first game work. From start to finish, it is as fun to play as its predecessor, and if it has one "flaw," it is that you're getting exactly what you'd expect. I can't get enough of the game, so when I completed it, I instantly set out to finish all of the challenges. Kudos to the development team.
-
Oct 16, 2023With Spider-Man 2, the developers at Insomniac continue the adventures of Peter and Miles with a gripping story, taking many of the strengths of the predecessors and making meaningful improvements in the right places.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 feels like it’s right in the centre of Sony’s blockbuster sequel design philosophy. Where Horizon Forbidden West did the same thing but bigger, The Last of Us Part 2 elevated itself technologically, narratively, and most importantly, ambitiously. Spider-Man 2 falls between these approaches - it has some of Horizon’s safety, but with a slice of the elevation The Last of Us brought. Spider-Man 2 is the future of polished, competent, elevated sequels, and brings with it so many technical flourishes and a perfect execution of the formula that it stands in a class of its own. Like Miles’ own motto, Spider-Man 2 can be itself, and be greater.
-
Oct 16, 2023Granted, sometimes it feels like Insomniac, in its push to give us more than we could have imagined, almost goes a bit too far. Like the addition of a wingsuit so that Spider-Man can glide through Manhattan’s glass and steel canyons a little more quickly. It’s an innovation likely born from the sheer size of the city, which can take long minutes to traverse by web-slinging alone. It can be useful, but it doesn’t feel very Spidey-ish. I generally preferred swooping up and down, even if it took a little longer. But if that’s the worst complaint one can level at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac must be doing something right. And it does nothing to diminish the game’s absolutely lovely energy. Every play session left me feeling upbeat and like all was right with the world. Or at least the world within the game.
-
Oct 16, 2023These more intimate scenes coalesce wonderfully with its grander narrative to make Spider-Man 2 an amazing and well-rounded follow-up. Insomniac’s understanding of Spider-Man is unparalleled in the medium, as evidenced by the empowering and expanded combat mechanics, breathtaking traversal, and narrative that focuses on the heroes in addition to those underneath the mask. The team has mastered its craft and, like Spider-Man, is only getting better with experience.
-
Oct 16, 2023This should probably boost the popularity of Marvel games. Spider-Man 2 is a real slap in the face when it comes to game-movies, but above all it's a great way to end the year. While a few redundancies in the ancillary activities may detract from the 100% enjoyment, the well-crafted storyline, comfortable gameplay and attention to detail make this third opus the autumn blockbuster that many have been waiting for.
-
Oct 16, 2023If anything, Spider-Man 2 could have benefited from cutting out the Mary Jane sections and trimming a few of the side quests to make it an even leaner, more perfectly-paced game. But even with some flaws, Spider-Man 2 is still a spectacular experience and the best entry in Insomniac's Spider-Man game universe to date. It delivers everything hardcore Spider-Man fans would want, with breathtaking battles against some of the hero's most iconic villains, and a gorgeous open-world New York City to experience it all in. It's certainly in the conversation as a Game of the Year contender and a must-buy PS5 exclusive.
-
Oct 16, 2023Despite the combat being marginally better, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is peak Spider-Man thanks to better UI, better villains, a better story, a bigger world, Web Wings, and two Spider-Men.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 takes a while to get into gear and certainly isn't perfect, but Insomniac once again delivers solid results. Side activities are better thought out, traversing New York City is even more fun and delightful to look at and combat still works well. All of it dipped in a truly cinematic sauce, with the "premium" feel of a Sony's first-party game. The sequel is clearly a better game than the first one, which is, after all, the whole point.
-
Oct 16, 2023Can you even want more? Realistically speaking - not much. Spider-Man 2 isn't a 10 out of 10 perfect game deserving, but the series is on a good way to make its third installment a true masterpiece.
-
Oct 16, 2023If you love Marvel's comics and are looking for an open-world action game full of spectacular moments and combat, then Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is definitely the perfect game for you.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider Man 2 is a true blockbuster, a chapter that cannot be postponed for those who have experienced the previous adventures of Peter and Miles, as well as one of the most important gaming events of the year. It plays a little too safe in several areas, but overall it remains an exciting title and a highly recommended adventure for all fans of Spider-Man and superhero comics in general.
-
Oct 16, 2023The experience offered by Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is cinematically all-encompassing: direction, music, interpretations (the dubbing in Italian is also convincing) are comparable to those of a blockbuster, and the revisiting of Spider-Man's imagery is superior even to the already excellent one of first chapter. We could discuss at length Kraven's charisma, the role of a powerful Venom, the intimate and perverse dimension of the symbiote but, clearly avoiding any spoiler, it is sufficient to reiterate how Insomniac has given shape to a high-school adventure, where playful soul and narrative move in symbiosis. There certainly remain some uncertainties inherited from the progenitor, yet the adjustments made to the formula and the greater quality of the secondary activities avoid the specter of the boring standardization of the open world, to give Marvel's Spider-Man 2 a lovably hybrid personality: that of a super blockbuster pop and, at the same time, auteur.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is an excellent sequel that smartly builds on the solid foundation set in the previous installments. The web wings are a fun addition to traversal, while combat and stealth have been improved and refined with easier access to gadgets and the new web lines. Swapping between Peter and Miles is not only fun for gameplay variety, but creates a convincing sense of individuality as they go off and do their own things. After a three year wait, Insomniac has delivered a definitive Spider-Man, yet again.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic sequel, building on the excellent foundations of its forebear while delivering a story that drives these beloved characters forward.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac makes a notable effort to give Spidey fans a story they will talk about for a long time, as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is full of drama, mystery, adventure, and plenty of challenge. How Kraven and Venom are featured is appropriate, and the side missions complement the video game's narrative. The result is a solid title, with a design that aims to keep the player entertained and busy in a certainly direct and compact experience that fans will appreciate.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the best gaming experiences in an already crowded year. The game has it all; a solid story, a big city to explore, excellent visuals and rich content.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is exactly what you want from a sequel, building upon the web-swinging traversal and thrilling combat with numerous upgrades, while also making the most of the PS5's cutting-edge hardware for improved visuals and instantaneous loading. The story is excellent too, with one of the best on-screen adaptations of Venom to date. If you're a Spider-Man fan, this is an essential purchase for PS5 owners.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a tour de force, elevating an already great franchise into a fantastic one. Most, if not all, of the bumps and wrinkles have been ironed out, and what we're left with is one of the best superhero games ever made.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is easily the best PlayStation first party game this year. I went from thinking it wouldn’t make my game of the year (to be fair it has been a stellar year) to definitely being on my list. Insomniac has truly evolved this series into the best franchise currently on the PlayStation platform.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is definitely one of the best games of 2023 and certainly a top-tier console exclusive for PS5.
-
Oct 16, 2023The sequel is bigger and better, sometimes truly epic. Two cool protagonists, a story full of twists and turns, sparks of humor, well-designed side activities – what more could you want? There are some shortcomings, including significant departures from the Spider-Man canon established in other stories (if things like that bother you), but overall, I had a great time and didn’t skip anything the game has to offer. Spider-Man 2 is undoubtedly one of this year’s top titles.
-
Oct 16, 2023Ultimately, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 captures the essence of the character on a micro and macro level. We get big, epic set pieces infused with personal stakes, spectacular combat, the amazing web-swinging that every kid dreams of, and a story that tests Miles Morales and Peter Parker on both physical and mental levels. While it isn't without its flaws, Spider-Man 2 is a sensational follow-up to the previous games and yet another winner for PlayStation players.
-
Oct 16, 2023I hope that Insomniac never really stops working on superhero games.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 delivers a personal story about two busybodies struggling to find balance in their lives, while all webbed up in larger-than-life comic book arcs. That’s a perfect match for Insomniac’s winning action-adventure formula, which is improved in almost every conceivable way here. Its expansive narrative and open-world checklists may feel overwhelming at times, but that effectively drives home its ultimate point: Great power isn’t a cure for great responsibility.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man 2 manages to raise production values and stakes in this new game, where moving around is probably the smoothest there ever has been in an open world game.
-
Oct 16, 2023Peter and Miles' new adventure does almost everything better than the first game, but also makes some of the same mistakes.
-
Oct 16, 2023Amazing, spectacular, superior, ultimate. All words that have been used to describe Spider-Man in his comic run and adjectives I could use to describe Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac Games delivers another stellar superhero-adventure. With the lessons learned from the first Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles: Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 turns out to be an epic yet always enjoyable open-world-action-game that satisfies fans with its love for its characters but also with a well-rounded gameplay and interesting and varied mission-design.
-
Oct 16, 2023This is an amazing fantasy come to life and realised like never before. Insomniac Games has crafted yet another heartfelt Spider-Man story bursting with twists, turns, and show-stopping spectacle. While I wish it had taken a few more risks in changing up its open-world formula, it’s tricky to remember those criticisms when I’m diving from the top of the Empire State Building and firing out a web line at the last second as I swing away in search of ass to kick.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most cinematic superhero games ever created. It’s a little shorter than its predecessor, but it includes a memorable main story and some of the best side quests found in an open world game. Kraven ends up being a more compelling villain than originally thought, and whenever Venom and his symbiotic abilities appear, it’s an absolute treat.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a joy to play, even if it doesn't break that much new ground in gameplay terms. It's just so polished, and tells its heartfelt tale nicely, punctuated by incredibly impressive set pieces that ooze with detail.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could have just given players a bigger play space and more stuff, called it a day and been a pretty decent sequel. What's actually here is so much more than that though, pairing increased width and breadth with more depth and meaningful new gameplay and story opportunities. There's rarely a moment here that doesn't feel thrilling, enchanting, heartbreaking, awe-inspiring or some combination of it all. Beyond untangling the finer threads of its design or narrative ambitions though, it's genuinely just the most fun, gorgeous open world superhero game out there.
-
Oct 16, 2023Great action-adventure in which swinging, fighting and story are convincing and only the somewhat risk-averse open world has to take a back seat.
-
Oct 16, 2023The problem arises when you may realize what I did: I’ve felt all this before.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 shows steady improvement while trimming the excess. If you appreciate smooth and thrilling combat, outstanding web-swinging and flying, as well as superhero storytelling, then it's unquestionably a must-play title.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a great game thanks to improved combat, traversal and quality of life improvements. There are still some improvements to make though, as Insomniac could've implemented more of the feedback on the first two games.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a very successful mainstream blockbuster, which will easily please fans of the license. The adventure is more explosive than ever, with technique that is sometimes truly impressive, a New York twice as big as in the past and even more in-depth side missions. That being said, Insomniac relies a little too much on the strengths (and weaknesses) of previous games, missing the opportunity to take the gameplay and writing a little further. In the end, it lacks a bit of momentum, of material to give life to a second episode that meets our expectations, but we still had an excellent time.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 continues on the foundation of the previous two games, augmented by new environments, features and combat. This provides more variety and the web slinging is even more refined thanks to new features. Still, the game is more of the same at some parts, and at a technical level there are some issues. That being said, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a delightful game that every PlayStation gamer should definitely play.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is still the very same Insomniac game you may have fallen in love with in the past years, just improved in almost every way.
-
Oct 16, 2023For fans of the first game, or Spider-Man, or action games in general, Spider-Man 2 is an easy recommendation. There are about five dozen teasers and easter eggs by the end so I’m sure we’re in for more, whether that’s another Miles-sized game or another sequel down the road. But for now, yes, this is all the Spider-action you need for a good long while.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 feels like the perfect, albeit safe, evolution of the formula first introduced with the 2018 game. With a highly emotional story, much-improved traversal, great visuals and performance, and industry-leading accessibility, this sequel is very likely to win over most fans of the original. However, a bigger shake-up may be needed for the inevitable Spider-Man 3.
-
Oct 16, 2023Insomniac mastered the PS5 technology beautifully and showcased it in full glory here. The story is thrilling and well done. Gameplay is refined but mostly in line with the previous games. It's not a major leap, but it definitely deserves and respects your time.
-
Oct 16, 2023In many ways, this game is the fulfillment of fans' fantasies of what it's like to be Spider-Man. We get our hands on a huge open city, expanded to include Brooklyn, Queens and beyond, where we use a wide range of abilities and options to take down a familiar gallery of villains. There are a few problems, though, and it's not pleasant to see them repeated from the first game.
-
Oct 18, 2023A quantum leap forward for its franchise despite the general familiarity of its mechanics, Spider-Man 2 is far from the first story to suggest that being Spider-Man is harder than it looks, but the game represents such a significant addition to the ever-expanding multiverse of Spidey stories because it so vividly conveys how impossible it must feel for Peter to be anything else.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero games. Bigger, better and more badass like almost every traditional sequel, this new chapter also shows the limits of the formula that needs to be urgently renewed in the next game.
-
Oct 16, 2023With familiar but still great gameplay that has a few new moves, strong presentation, and a mostly engaging story which gets better in the second half, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a crowd-pleasing blockbuster sequel that's worth playing for any superhero fan.
-
Nov 20, 2023Spider-Man 2 made me feel like the web-slinger himself – two versions of him, in fact – as I played through the game. I loved the feeling of getting around the city, fighting crime and saving the day. I didn't like how weak Spider-Man sometimes felt against bigger groups, nor did I like when the story slowed things down and took me away from the high-flying action sections. However, the overall experience was able to surpass both of these issues, and Spider-Man 2 is worthy of every accolade it receives.
-
Nov 10, 2023There’s still a ton of things to like about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Insomniac wisely kept the formula that worked so well in place and expanded it, removing a lot of what didn’t work and filling it in with new side content to leave players with plenty to do. There are few open-world games that are anywhere near as engaging, in large part because so few of them can capture the genuine joy of simply moving through the world in the way these games do. That so much of the game’s content has been broken down into its best parts makes it all the more frustrating, though, when the game continues to make a few major mistakes it’s been making since the very first entry. Still, any fans of the first two games will have a blast returning to this world in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
-
Edge MagazineNov 2, 2023Whether this is the best Spider-Man GAME will likely be debated at length, but in so vividly capturing the intensity of the superhero experience, it is unquestionably the best Spider-Man simulator. [Issue#391, p.106]
-
Oct 31, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 touches on huge progressiveness on the outskirts of its story, but similar to the big-budget retellings of the wall-crawler, it could go so much further. We've seen Spidey do New York so much before, and it's a total undeniable classic. But with great power, comes great responsibility. A responsibility to push forward culture, representation, opinion, and acceptance. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has made a great start, but we have so much further to go.
-
Oct 27, 2023Spider-Man 2 is as dumb as a bag of bricks, but that’s the norm for blockbusters. What it gets right is emotionally manipulating players to become invested in it, backing that up with one of the slickest combat systems we’ve ever seen… and then giving us two entirely different characters to enjoy that with. It is a true spectacle and while I wish that we, as a community, demanded better from narratives in video games, I couldn’t help but have fun with this one once I shut my brain off and just embraced it for the silly thing that it is.
-
Oct 24, 2023Spider-Man 2 continues the high level of slickly presented entertainment seen with Insomniac’s first jaunt to Manhattan. Playing as the Spider-Men is yet to be anything other than beautiful, both figuratively and literally. Great as it may be, it's held back by some dodgy writing that fumbles its payoffs and dips too often into waffle. Between those moments of deflation, however, there is a truly gorgeous and absorbing game packed with delightful action where simply moving feels good.
-
Oct 17, 2023The story is enjoyable, with every actor bringing their A-game, and everything is so beautifully animated the sight of New York will make you weep...That being said, there are flaws and shortcomings within the game. It doesn’t improve on areas of the original game that were screaming for an upgrade. It also struggles to deliver a story where not only both Spider-Men but their supporting cast feel equally served, though this is saved somewhat by the excellent performances.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 excels in delivering a spectacular combat system and seamlessly fluid traversal mechanics. The game truly shines when it lets you swing through Manhattan's cityscape at breakneck speeds, a thrilling highlight of the experience. Yet, where Insomniac Games stumbles is in the narrative and certain design choices. The inclusion of stealth sections and an overreliance on cinematic Quick Time Events detracts from player agency. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 doesn't reinvent the wheel but also doesn't significantly improve its rotation.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 is a by-the-book sequel. It offers more of everything that worked so well in the previous parts. This results in an incredibly good and smoothly playable game that oozes fun, but Insomniac often makes the safest choices, so the game does not often surprise.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a huge blockbuster as excepted. A sequel that push all the previous limits of the franchise. It's beautiful, full of surprises and action-packed moments that will go down in history. The best Spider-Man outta there and a new reference for PS5 players.
-
Oct 16, 2023At once a little simple and a little over-stuffed, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is still above all a game of immense charm and fluid, free-form style.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2, unlike its protagonists, remains grounded in terms of innovations and doesn't swing the series forward. It stands on a very solid foundation, subtly tweaking it, usually in the right direction, and tells a story that, while lacking in surprise, remains quite enjoyable. It's once again a great action adventure, but next time, the series would really benefit from a more significant shift.
-
Oct 16, 2023Overall, though, some of its fights dragged on a bit and I found the plot stronger in the first two-thirds than towards the end. But all in all, Insomniac continues its run of immensely entertaining and impressively robust games in formidable fashion with Spider-Man 2. Few Studios mix cinematic spectacle and systemically satisfying freedom so deftly.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 delivers a satisfying Spidey-saga that gives fans everything they could want from a Venom arc and also includes several surprises. It's a single-player open-world game that prioritizes fun above all else, with a host of accessibility features to let everyone join in.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 delivers Insomniac's best tale yet, and despite its open world falling short, is a reliably fun superhero power trip.
-
Oct 16, 2023All in all, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may largely give us more of what we've played in Insomniac's previous Spider-Man games, but that winning formula is still so damn fun that it really doesn't matter. The story's exploration of loneliness is fantastic, creating gripping new narratives for the two heroes, Peter and Miles, as well as the two main villains, Kraven and Venom. Spider-Man 2 unites all four characters in a riveting narrative throughline you'll want to see all the way through and has the gameplay hooks to keep you engaged the whole ride.
-
Oct 16, 2023When Insomniac taps into the heart of its subject matter, be that Peter or Miles, it's glorious. Being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is compelling. You're equally important saving the world or helping someone cross the street, a dichotomy this game understands beautifully. That’s why it’s a shame the main narrative gets tangled in its own web of disparate elements, falling just shy of greatness.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 delivers some of the most fun and exhilarating traversal mechanics in any game ever. This makes it a blast to explore its colorful open world, filled with engaging combat, fun collectables and great one-offs. The game does however falter somewhat in the story department, especially in an overly messy third act that's nowhere near reaching the consistently emotional peaks of its predecessor.
-
Oct 16, 2023When the inevitable next mainline game lands in four-five years, I do hope Insomniac shakes it up a bit, but until then, AAA open-world games don't get much more entertaining than this.
-
Oct 16, 2023Switching between characters ends up being anecdotal in reality. Respective subplots aside, it's the story that drives who to play as and when, which prevents from witnessing events from a different point of view, let alone playing them. This is frustrating and establishes an awkward linearity in an otherwise fantastic open-world game. (...) But it doesn't leave such a bad taste, as it's got fun combat, brilliant traversal and tons of fan-service.
-
Oct 16, 2023An epic adventure with an effective gameplay as usual, also very accessible, but the story's conclusion will probably frustrate many players.
-
Oct 16, 2023The best Spider-Man game ever and probably the best use of Venom in any medium outside of comics, with the stunning visuals and slick gameplay overcoming a certain overfamiliarity.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an incredibly polished sequel that perfects the previous games' combat and delivers new, exciting ways to traverse New York City as you beat up bad guys.
-
Oct 16, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a confident sequel that builds on the previous games in practically every way possible. Smart additions and refinements to traversal, combat, and open world activities mean this is the best Spidey game from Insomniac yet. We do have some minor criticisms about the story, and the combat does become repetitive eventually, but this is overall an absolute blast full of moments that'll surprise and delight.
-
Oct 23, 2023Even if these faults are eventually fixed in an upcoming patch, it’s clear that this game should not have been released in its current inexcusable state. It’s a shame because, critiques aside, there’s a genuinely addictive gameplay loop here that I’m sure I would have found more compelling if there was stability. Ultimately, bugs are not guaranteed in everyone’s playthroughs, so you may get lucky. But I do recommend being aware of these potential problems and making backup saves should something go awry.

Oct 17, 2023Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the best games of the year. That's something we all might have thought before we even played it, but it shouldn't belong to the group of deserving high marks, it should be in the select group of outstanding ones. Miles and Peter give us a hilarious adventure, full of necessary messages about asking for help when needed, and technically it is a delight for the senses. And it shows us that Insomniac is one of the fittest studios on the planet, and it's been that way for many years now. There will probably be bigger titans in 2023 when it comes to video games, but Marvel's Spider-Man deserves a place right after them. [Recommended]
-
Oct 17, 2023Spider-Man 2 definitely doesn’t rewrite the book of Insomniac’s superhero series. But that’s because it doesn’t need to. Even after pouring well over 20 hours into the game, we’re eager to dive in again to explore every hidden nook and cranny that this expanded New York City offers...And if Insomniac offers another barely different version of the same gameplay formula in a few years' time, we’ll probably sink dozens more happy hours into the same basic gameplay loop.
-
Oct 16, 2023It runs so, so smooth with no hiccups. Doesn't matter how much crazy bullshit is happening on the screen. Technically it's in the top 3 PS5 showcases. It's phenomenal.
-
Oct 16, 2023Whatever lack of satisfaction I walked away from Spider-Man 2 with ultimately paled in comparison to the joy of flying over its cityscapes and being able to pretend, however briefly, that I was a member of its bright metropolis where every challenge can eventually be overcome, at least with the help of a suit, super powers, and a perfectly timed *thwip*. The game surrounding it could be much worse and I’d still come running back each time. Fortunately, it is as good as it’s ever been, and in plenty of ways, even better. Being Spider-Man never gets old.
-
Oct 16, 2023There are hints of greater thematic aspirations within Spider-Man 2. Questions about mass incarceration, recidivism, and reintegration into society for formerly incarcerated people; worries about the surveillance state and what we give up when we engage with modern technology. These things appear, however fleetingly, in Spider-Man 2, but there isn’t enough time to elaborate on any single one in the unrelenting march of set-piece after glorious set-piece. But I’m glad they’re there, anyway. Because if we’re going to retell a story, we ought to retell it anew. Canons were made to be broken, and Spider-Man 2 swings in that direction. With a sequel teed up by the game’s final act, I’m eager to see where Insomniac goes with that momentum. Next stop: the Bronx. [Polygon Recommends]
-
Oct 16, 2023While Spider-Man 2 delighted us for a pretty huge percentage of its 20-plus hour length, it rarely surprised us. (Not never, mind you; the game’s back half includes at least one jaw-dropping dose of joy.) As a game, it’s smart, and enjoyable, and respectful of its characters, and kind of, unavoidably, iterative. It refuses almost uniformly to mess with success and, in so doing, sometimes robs itself of the ability to shock or stun. But don’t get us wrong: The game does what it’s aiming to do so relentlessly well that it’s very hard to hold any of this against it, except in hindsight; in the moment, we were simply too busy having a total blast playing Spider-Man 2 for any of these more conceptual issues to matter all that much.
-
Oct 16, 2023Spider-Man 2 mostly knows what worked with the originals, and it enhances that by adding more: more characters, more villains, more ways to get around, and a story with more edge and more twists. It doesn’t fix the sidequest problem, but everything else is better. And this ability to steadily improve is a good thing because it’s pretty clear this franchise isn’t going anywhere. Like any good Marvel story, Spider-Man 2 ends with a very unsubtle tease of what comes next. The only question is: how many spider-men will show up?
