    Madden 21 was the worst sports game I’ve ever played. However, EA put in the time and the effort that us fans have been saying for years. The Madden franchise community (except for people that only make money off of saying bad stuff on the game) has embraced and loved the changes. This game is the best Madden since Madden 12. I tip my hat to Mr. Weingarten, Mr. Douglas, and the entire EAMadden 21 was the worst sports game I’ve ever played. However, EA put in the time and the effort that us fans have been saying for years. The Madden franchise community (except for people that only make money off of saying bad stuff on the game) has embraced and loved the changes. This game is the best Madden since Madden 12. I tip my hat to Mr. Weingarten, Mr. Douglas, and the entire EA team for making such a great game. If you add the ability to edit coordinator names I’ll find a way to make this score an 11/10… Expand

    May i say omg next gen is where its at ok like wow im so love the homefield advantage you have to try i never seen q football game implement something so sensual like no bs try it its a beast feature and the moving feels better a lil wierd but you'll get use to it madden really stepped up with this one played both versions and they are both great but next generation is beautiful

    Surprise, it’s the same game as every year. Everyone who rates it 0 stars should maybe become a developer and think of new ideas. Last time I checked, the NFL hasn’t really changed at all since last year, so why should the game?
    What they need to do is bring back NFL Street. Until then, it is a solid game.

    It's better than Madden 21 and while there are improvements in Franchise Mode, I feel like there could be more. And they made improvements to the gameplay. However, I honestly don't like the new home field advantage and the return of X- Factors. But overall, Madden NFL 22 is a very solid game.

    It's really fun... but could certainly be improved in a number of ways. Little things like the same defensive coordinator guy on both teams.. collision detection... replays often don't show what the most important part (where the feet are etc)

    Overall this game is pretty awesome. I like some of the new features like "Home Field Advantage" and though it was implemented previously, "The Yard" is entertaining. Wouldn't go to great lengths to say that the yard is amazing by any account and I don't love all the pay to play features, but when you want something different to play outside of standard football, it's fun and a great wayOverall this game is pretty awesome.     This game isn't without its shortcomings however, and there are some things that I would love to see handled better such as overall player likeness (more face scan inclusions, updated body types, better/more realistic equipment, etc.). I would also like to see legend players included in offline rosters much like how NBA 2K or MLB the Show handles their legend players. Only being able to play with legendary players in MUT is frustrating.

    The best Madden title there has been in the last 10 years. I really like the coaching trees, weekly game planning, home field advantage, and am looking forward to the new scouting system. I can only hope they improve upon these things and not take them out of the game as they have with so many other memorable features throughout the years. The biggest issue with the game is the actual gameplay. This year is better than last with the new player movement, however the animation system just doesn’t work. It’s been years of trying and upgrading it, and it flat out sucks and makes the gameplay unrealistic. EA needs to move towards a physics based gameplay where a tank running back like Derrick Henry doesn’t get arm tackled by a scrawny LB who’s not even in range to make the play. Too many glitches and big plays ruined by the animation system. It sucks. Please move on. Features I’d like to see added in the following Maddens to come would be the ability to create your own team/stadium that has been offered before. Pre season mini camps with drills to earn XP, and more realistic officiating system that begins with adding refs onto the field and calling more unscripted timely penalties. The last major addition they NEED to add is making different broadcasts similar to MLB the Show. From my knowledge, EA owns the ESPN license. Make a freaking “Monday Night Football” broadcast with different layouts to simulate real prime time games and give that extra importance when playing in one. Golden opportunity. Overall I’m happy with the changes added but we’re still far away from seeing this games true potential. Don’t stop here, make the Madden we all deserve and want to see.… Expand

    A bit of a disappointment, I enjoy some of the UI changes but there really is not a large difference from madden 21. Also, how is the create a character still this poor?? With EA Play basic you get madden 21 I don't think it is worth spending the money for 22, especially not at full price with the bugs. I did the 10-hour trial but only played around 5 hours

EA has completely cut every cost in development purely to rake in as much profits from the imbeciles spending $ on Ultimate Team, which is aiding in the slow decline of quality in games. Madden NFL is decent. More animations for game play is nice, however Madden is too animations dependent. The graphics are still mediocre. Remember during the PS2Madden NFL is in a very sad state. The game isn’t perfect by any stretch but it is an enjoyable game for football fans and has more features than EA had added in the last 5 years combined. Gameplay is improved and feels the best since switching to the frost bite engine.     Opposite of 2K22. Madden 22 has great gameplay, but awful modes. And for God’s sake, do not waste a minute in Face of the Franchise. The dialogue in the story will put you on suicide watch.

    Franchise mode is finally good again. The gameplay is pretty much the same as Madden 21 next gen aside from the home field advantages, which I really enjoy. There's a lot more you can do in Superstar KO now. The Yard was pretty much ruined because you can no longer select your players, it gives you randomly selected players and you can't change your created player's height and weight toFranchise mode is finally good again. However, all the modes are half baked. Madden seriously needs to be a platform and not an annual franchise. If it was not for my own love of the game of football, I would not even be here.     I'll give this year's roster update a 3/10 only because EA made minimal effort in making some improvements. That said, the few improvements they did both to make are trivial at best.

    Pros:
    - Slightly more Franchise mode capabilities
    - Home field advantage is nice.. but broken

    Cons:
    - Barely improved graphics, per usual
    - Animations are insanely repetitive
    - Buggy as ever

    It's sad that this is the only NFL franchise we get. The graphics and lighting can't hold up a game that fails to perform in any other way. I'm sad I spent PS5 money on this entry. As everyone else has already told you - skip this one.    … Expand

    Game is way to similar to Madden 21 next gen. It’s sad to see games like NBA 2K and MLB the show have such good gameplay and depth and to have the ONLY NFL game be so poor. The gameplay is robotic and there are still way to many animations that break immersion. Madden 22 is nothing more than a cash grab IMO.

The defense can't do what it's programed to do and you have a defense NPC covering phantom players. Also the fatigue system doesn't work well at all and the game planning is far from where it should be. That being said EA has done some good things, the coaching tree is a nice feature, route running in the game feels smoother and the x-factors are always a nice addition. Is this game better than madden 21? Absolutely, but the problem is that EA set the bar so low on their Madden games. Don't waste you're time and money on this game you'll just be disappointed. This game disappointed more than my dead beat dad. Just play whatever version of Madden you own, do.nload the new roster through the community tab and voilà, you pretty much got madden 22.… Expand

    2. The zone defenses are TERRIBLE. I played an online game and me and my opponent had about ten 1 play scoring drives. 3. There’s no reason that players that’s been in the league 5 or 6 years plus to NOT have a facescan.

    There’s so much more i could put but honestly it’s not even worth it. I was originally going to give the game a 3, but after typing all of this out and realizing that that’s too high of a score. So you get a 2, and that’s being generous.

    First of all, I‘d like to point out the positive fact, that EA has reacted to their community by apparently trying to improve their Franchise mode. Hashtags such as #fixmaddenfranchise were trending and it is good to see them actually responding to this.

    However, the only difference you can actually feel in this game, is the different layout of menus and little additions such as the homefield advantage. This community desperately asks for a more in depth customization of their playing experience. The staff options are decent, but they were not even among the top 5 additions, that this community frequently asks for. I understand that EA or the NFL has concerns about customization aspects, such as creating a team with jerseys or adding tattoos. Yet these are the little things, that are possible on a technical side and EA had this stuff in their games over a decade ago.

    To summarize my point: it‘s the same game as every year, with some different menus. The gameplay and graphics changes are hardly noticable. Their "additions“ simply can‘t change the fact, that you get bored after less then a single season in Franchise Mode. Safe your money guys and lets just hope that the upcoming NCAA will simply copy everything they had in 2014 with better graphics. It‘s sad, but that would already be a huge improvement compared to every Madden after Madden 25. And if there is one wish I can ask for:

    Keep those Madden developers as far away from the NCAA-game as possible. Please EA, just do it for your community. It will be worth it.    … Expand

    I’m not an avid MUT player, being a fan of simulation football. However in trying it this year whilst waiting to begin the yearly franchise, some of the more glaring issues were shown. With EA problems causing players to be banned, a bug making it unable to visit the marketplace and of course, the elite EA Support to users who were banned for using the Madden companion app. EA have handled the launch of MUT horribly and their consumers are being left to pay the price with bans, delays and just outright disillusionment with the game. Even for those who were lured into pay to play in order to compete with poor matchmaking. A new player with an all bronze team, at the lowest division, will frequently get matched with a ‘god squad’ full of the top overall available cards thus almost forcing a pay to play environment


    The franchise bugs were also a delight, seeing that the previous years interface is still in the game, just layered over by the new interface , the fun new scrolling window in the cfm Home Screen that doesn’t scroll and the inability to assign custom playbooks to a team make it particularly infuriating. However, there remains the potential. The potential that must be realised sooner, rather than later. The season engine is good for its first year of true attention, although some of the scenarios trigger too often and others are straight up outlandish, the base is there to build on and provide some depth to our game. The logic around trades and drafting is still not ideal, but it is clear that an attempt has been made. The new features to franchise, whilst well intentioned, are exactly what we’ve come to expect from madden. A buggy mess that was hastily added on the back of bad publicity. Full of bugs and exploits, but Swami, for all of EAs flaws does listen and try. Whether he’s given any freedom to do anything is another matter tho. Users are still unable to assign a custom playbook, despite generated coaches having a custom book assigned, so we can see the functionality exists, so why not simply open it up?

    The Gameplay

    Well, this is an absolute casserole of nonsense. It is 100% almost certainly close to maybe being sort of a good game. The good things

    Tackling is better. Still not perfect, as you’ll see a giant back get tackled by a corner with ease far too often, but that corne best not be trying to hit stick Derek henry. QBs are allowed to move again. The game might be a bit easy vs CPU at the moment. But there is times in H2H games where it is actually very fun and shows you what it could be. The bad things

    Hit sticks - aye they’re fun, but 95% of the animations are getting you a flag and a suspension on Sundays. Passing- it’s incredibly easy to pass because there’s no coverage in the game at the moment. So, how do we slow that down? By removing the ability to lead a pass entirely. The OC community have shown the exact settings needed to make pass lead feel right, look right and play right. But EA has not listened. Pass Rush - simply put, EA lied to us. They said they’ve unlocked pass rush moves for the pass rushers, meaning a better, more fluid and organic pocket will form. This is not true. Needs addressing urgently because again, this has the potential to make the game very good

    Contains - QB with speed? All the best catching him. Contains or not. Sometimes doesn’t even need speed. EA must address this the right way. Don’t make QBs slow again, make the contains work. Pass coverage - ha. There isn’t. That’s all there is to it really. This would be helped if the DBs tried to go for a swat as default, as opposed to going for a pick every single time. But c’est la vie. Penalties - they’ve addressed that they’ve taken them out for a reason. I kind of understand this, but they could always tie them into a trait so if your “highly undisciplined” RT holds on a game winning touchdown, that’s on you whether you want to keep him long term or not knowing he’s prone to a bone headed decision. Also as mentioned. The hit sticks. The conclusion

    Is there many more things I could discuss. Yes. Are there many more things EA needs to do. Yes. But they’re moving in the right direction. The issue is, there’s only so long they can have before that needle needs to be all the way moved. I’m rating this game a 2, with an asterix. Because there’s a chance it could be much higher. But until it starts fulfilling it’s potential and until EA learns to communicate with its fanbase, it can’t be considered any higher    … Expand

Also, I didn't even buy this game, I went and played it with my friend at his house on Gamepass and we could tell it was gonna be another bad year and neither of us decided to buy it. I gave it a 2 because there were active changes whenever the community spoke up but that is not enough for me to give this game praise or give the madden development team praise either. People may think we are being nitpicky whenever it comes to the madden games but whenever you have games from decades before that are better then you are allowed to point out the shortcomings from a product that you already know can be better. Face of franchise pretty much sucks again. If your completely new to madden sure play it and might have fun but if you played any other madden, just stick to that.

It’s still an empty, faceless avatar for any created owner or coach (& probably the same bald, fat white guy character that steps in when a coach is fired / not replaced yet). Simply take that stupid ‘yard’ character that you make at the beginning & allow that face / character to be used… but no, that would be TOO EASY & NBA2k already does that, so god forbid EA/Madden take any notes from other successful game franchises.

    Maybe EA beefed up franchise mode, maybe they didn’t - I’m not able to play this damn thing to find out. So I’ve decided I won’t be playing… ever… & I’ve been dedicated since Madden 96… I am so disappointed & pissed off, what a disgraceful sham of a game!    … Expand

    Barely any improvements from last year. Franchise mode still isn’t good. It would be nice to be able to restructure contracts and things of that nature. The game play is very similar to the last 3 years. Just not a big enough improvement to be worth $70. MUT is just pay to win and full of unreasonable price micro transactions. They should have just taken a year off and made a good game.

Make the salary cap and contract structuring more realistic, allow users to trade more than 3 players and more than 2 years of draft picks at a time, understand the importance of special teams players like a long-snapper and gunners and other pieces that would make fans believe this is an authentic football game rather than a simplistic, mobile version of a football game. Even worse, are the amount of bugs in the game. There are small, yet simple, ones like Tua warming up with the right hand or players spiking with their right hand when the ball is still stuck in their left hands to others where the player animations just start glitching or don't display at all and even further more the game just randomly closing. There are even bugs that were carried over from last year which makes me truly wonder if EA has a QA team or if the higher-ups listen to the QA team or just ship it without caring about quality. All in all, while I have supported and purchased this game consistently for over a decade, I'm really starting to feel it's not worth it any more. I'd rather wait for the contract with the NFL to expire and hope that some competition on football games make EA actually pick up and start working on this game.… Expand

    This game is legit pretty terrible. There will be times that the D line will get through the line and run straight past the QB/running back. It is awful don't waste your money. It is graphically exactly the same as the Madden 21 and the home-field advantage is just a terrible new feature.

    Like madden 2005,nfl 2k5 can produce football games and A.I.,that Play,and react appropriately(functioning to the degree that represents true football and the quality expected from the NFL Brand!Ea just released a half baked game,with recycled features from madden 08-12,and instead of breaking a broken game down and bringing us a complete and revamped football experience;Ea gave us the same game port,tweaked with completely busted defense,defensive Ai,the same ability for individual players to scan and make ridiculous int’s,many warped animations still,,defenders pass rushing through the gaps stopping at line of scrimmage,man coverage shot,zone shot, players responding to all of the wrong things on defense (or not at all),the ability to have to sit back and wait a month or two to be able to start and enjoy franchise,because scouting wasn’t ready and needs to be patched in at an unknown date!
    I mean the game doesn’t allow for any real football,the players simply don’t respond on defense,stop and glitch off animations and whatever mechanics built in,that won’t allow them do functions and intelligently respond effectively,so it’s an offerensige free for all!Physics are still suspect and need to be trashed,replaced for a totally new system(without the animations):perhaps a revamped game breaker physics system?!?!

    The game has good intentions, but it’s built on an aging engine that was originally designed for FPS games. The glitches and lack of polish will be abundantly noticeable by series veterans.     I made a account just to write this review. I haven't bought madden since 2017 to give it a chance to feel new and fresh to me and at first it was just that. Madden 22 the more I played the more frustrating it became to the point that the game was no longer fun. The animations especially for blocking is horrible. There are more problems with the game but those have been what killed it for me. The most i will say is i do like the commentary but after a few game, their scripts become out of wack.     No Hate here, the game just doesn't work. All of these isdues I personally experienced.
    After each Franchise game it drops back to the Madden main menu.
    The Momentum system gives the opposing team credit when you score. When you choose a face for your pkayer, the system gives it a completely different face. The skin tone resets after you go back to the Franchise menu. There is no way    No Hate here, the game just doesn't work. All of these isdues I personally experienced.
    After each Franchise game it drops back to the Madden main menu.

    My 23 year old QB led the league in pasding and TDs. He lost a plaoff game and the system took away his X Factor, dropping him to a Star.
    This is not anout the abysmal logic (the computer rushed 8 men on 3rd and 1 when I had 4 recievers then double teamed the TE leaving 3 men completely uncovered). The game programming is pathetic. Regardless of price, it's not worth it because it just doesn't work.    … Expand

That’s really all we buy it for because we always expect the same trash of a game with pay to win MUT mode. Franchise mode is terrible as always. The game is broken. They would much rather fix bugs in their Ultimate Team store and sets than fix any of the game play issues which render the game nearly unplayable. Its time to rethink football for video games.

    Probably the most buggy AAA title I've ever seen released on a console. I just bought the game and experienced an issue with not receiving class rep after level 9, so looked it up online. All results were from 4 months ago mentioning that the issue was known and not fixed.

    There is NO excuse for this. Pathetic.

But now I might not ever buy again (so I say lol). The game, when on ps4, crashed 4 times in 2 days. On ps5, not so much an issue.     If a football team finishes 2-14 or 2-15 under the new schedule rules, the coach and GM are often relieved on their duties. This franchise has been a loser for over a decade. There has been no accountability, no course correction, nothing...

    As long as the game is profitable, is it has been, there seems like there is no impetus to make the changes needed to satisfy the fanbase. The 22 installment is a lot of new paint. The crumbling structure is still crumbling. There have been a few bones thrown to the thirsty NFL gamers. But the real changes that are needed to bring this title to the level of excellence it deserves is lacking.

    I personally believe this is a foundational issue. The wrong people are developing and planning this game. You cannot deliver an experience when the game programmers, coders, and planners are not truly die-hard football fans.

    The right people for the job are out there. But EA will not hire them because they don't fit the culture they want at their gaming company. Perhaps, they should hire the best people for the job and not individuals who fit a certain classification for a HR metric?

    Make sense?

    This game will never be what it deserves to be until the entire team from management to the low-level developer is gutted. The team needs to be replaced with people who are football experts. People who can hit the deliverables needed for the level of excellence required.

    This franchise needs to be a simulation. A 365 day true to life NFL lifecycle from The NFL Draft to the Super Bowl and everything in between.

They have the resources to make Franchise every bit as good as it's ever been if they want to, but they don't . I don't know what to say anymore. I suppose I should just stop caring and move on at this point.

    This game is a total scam. The game crashes constantly and there are so many bugs its not even funny. The promised scouting update is nowhere to be found. This is anything but a $70 next gen game, it is a total waste of money and you're better off playing literally any other game. This is the worst game I've played in years.

    While the RyanMoody21 and SoftDrinkTv YouTube channels exposes just how fake fixed & garbage this game is. Allow me to explain further on this monopoly.

    The game is designed to keep you online as much as possible to increase the odds that you will spend money. Its best exploit is by not matching you up against players of your skill level or simply anyone, but they make sure that you play who they want you to play AND when you play, EA will help the team that they want to win. Why? I've never heard anyone explain this yet, but if EA can keep everyone's record close to even, everyone will think that spending money to attempt to get just another player or 2 that they will be able to dominate and tip the scales on their winning percentage. It never works that way though. You still win the same amount. Your new player will perform like a true champion but other players will be slacking. The new players play hard for a month when released and then EA slows them down which makes you want to upgrade again and then you find yourself paying EA again.
    There's a number of different types of crypto currencies in the game except this is not able to be cashed in ever. It just serves to get you to again reach for your wallet.

    All of the different game modes that were a part of Madden and the fun things you could do before Ultimate Team took off are gone. You can play without Ultimate Team but Ultimate Team is EAs ONLY focus with the game.

    EA puts out a pre-order edition every year but it's never based around Madden but particularly the ultimate team mode. Every load screen is another attempt to try luring you to ultimate team mode. Right now, you can win but this is the early access period. In just a few days, as sure as always, EA will change up the online matchmaking. At that point, go check all your friends records. You can do this all the way back to Madden 15 and what you will see is that everyone wins 45 to 63% of their games.
    Save your money. The game will be free in no time. Actually EA is already giving the game away for free. Here's how: go on Twitter and type in #MaddenNFL22 or #Madden22. You'll find endless people saying that they are giving away codes to download the game for free. Those codes are coming straight from EA because only they can produce them. This is yearly. They don't care about selling the game. They want you in ultimate team so they can make tons more from you via microtransactions. While plenty of people claim to not spend on their team, this strategy is calling them liars.    … Expand

    This game just keeps getting worse, even on next gen. There's still near 0 player logic. Blockers that give up on blocking, safeties not playing correctly against top tier receivers. This feels like another copy and paste year yet again for Madden. Save your money and wait for 2k to come out with their football game

    Once again, this is the same game as it it’s always been because they have no incentive to fix or change anything. If you need a football game to play, there’s no other option. But be warned, it is not worth the $70 price tag. Reused animations, glitches that make booth reviews only happen once the play clock has reached zero. It’s trash. Don’t waste your money.

    Let’s be realistic. For an annual sports franchise, it’s not necessarily practical to expect huge evolution year on year. It’s also fair to say that at a minimum, players should expect EA to deliver incremental quality of life improvements and make an effort to hone their overall experience of the game for the better. Whilst there is only so far the needle can be pushed year on year, the launch of a new Madden on next-gen systems presented EA with an opportunity to really raise the bar. That’s why it’s particularly disappointing that Madden 22 only offers stagnant content and, sadly, creative disinterest.

    Madden is as compelling as it ever was, but it can’t escape the slight feeling that things are spread a little too thin. Improvements to franchise mode are welcome and help the experience, but they are smaller than perhaps they deserve. With so many different ways to play football, it’s a little difficult to get in invested in any one game.
