Feb 27, 2025Whether you’re a Macross veteran or someone who has always wanted to check out the series, Macross -Shooting Insight- features a ton of shoot ’em up fun. Thanks to the constantly changing gameplay, stages always keep players on their toes. With plenty of difficulty options and five different characters with their own story modes, it features great variety and replayability as long as you’re looking to embrace a bullet hell game with idols singing over it (which you should).

Feb 10, 2025Macross Shooting Insight has a high difficulty that makes you want to replay it multiple times. It's like a lighter version of Ikaruga, where you can overcome every level without suffering too much. Its production values are not very high, but it's a nice touch that it features licensed songs from all the series. Yes, it's a game worth playing, but it also falls short in offering something more to an audience that doesn't consume anime.

Feb 14, 2025Macross – Shooting Insight from Kaminari Games takes the shoot ‘em-up genre to a bold and brash stance. While it does everything to break the mold of a regular shoot ‘em-up formula, including bringing a thick layer of challenge to the gameplay that will most certainly motivate hardcore shoot ‘em-up players, it lacks variety in level design and other small aspects of gameplay.

Apr 8, 2025MACROSS -Shooting Insight- has good ideas and execution flaws, but the fact that it carries the name of a classic franchise ended up becoming a burden, even with the Gallery full of cool collectibles, the main one, which was to emphasize combat with the different forms of the mecha, ended up lacking and the constant change of perspectives is an example of something good that was used in a bad way.

Feb 18, 2025MACROSS-Shooting Insight may feel run of the mill with the way it covers four types of shooters, but is still enjoyable and a bit challenging. If you’re really good at shooters or bullet-hell games, you’ll find a decent challenge here while those not as experienced can tone down the difficulty a bit to their liking. While the game looks nice graphically and is fun to play, for genre veterans the gameplay is a bit average.

Feb 7, 2025It's true that MACROSS -Shooting Insight- is very been-there-done-that but at the same time, the sense of variety when it comes to both its gameplay and its stellar soundtrack make it an overall enjoyable experience.

Mar 7, 2025MACROSS Shooting Insight is a game I wanted to love but too many things just got in the way. A story left by the wayside, chaotic visuals and gameplay decisions lead to frustrating moments. Luckily, it’s not all bad, due to superb sound design and visuals that hold up for the most part. This, coupled with a truly unique ever changing gameplay style, means there is enough for some veterans of the franchise to love. A truly mixed bag.

Feb 27, 2025Macross is a modest shoot'em up that offers a fan service-heavy experience but fails to stand out with its repetitive gameplay and lacklustre design. While it offers difficulty adjustments and some nostalgic elements, it doesn’t offer anything particularly memorable compared to other genre entries.

Feb 21, 2025Macross -Shooting Insight- brings iconic characters, planes, and music from different eras of the series, but the simple and unbalanced gameplay, along with limited transformations and incomplete localization, diminish the overall experience. At the end of the day, this legendary franchise deserves better than this.

Feb 19, 2025I think Macross – Shooting Insight is a tough one to recommend to most people. The Macross side of it isn’t exactly compelling, the story is an excuse to toss all these characters together into one scenario, and it’s not particularly compelling or interesting, quickly becoming something you’ll skip through as you near the end. Unfortunately, the core shoot ‘em up gameplay isn’t all that great either, it’s a serviceable entry in the genre that shows some promise, but the repetitive stage design and attempts to shoe horn in multiple flavors of shmup gameplay doesn’t do Macross – Shooting Insight any favors. If you’re just dying to get your hands on anything Macross related in the West, then you might gleam some satisfaction out of this one, but I can’t see this really appealing to anyone else.

Feb 10, 2025There's a reason that shoot 'em ups rarely cross between sub-genres. It's better to be the master of one than a jack of all trades with four. But MACROSS - Shooting Insight - is an interest experiment at mixing four separate shoot 'em up styles and while it doesn't fully work, the game remains playable and reasonably well-balanced.

Feb 27, 2025Are you a Hardcore Macross or a shoot’ em up fan? Then you might find something to enjoy in Macross: Shooting Insight, especially if you can access the Japan-exclusive content. However, the high price tag feels steep given the limited scope and overall quality of the experience. Kaminari Games doesn’t do much to make the title stand out, either as a celebration of the Macross franchise or as a compelling shmup. Keeping expectations in check is key. For everyone else, it’s hard to find a compelling reason to pick this up, aside from the potential spark of interest in exploring the iconic mecha series. It’s not much, but it’s something. Here’s hoping Macross gets the global recognition it deserves once again.

May 15, 2025The M in Macross – Shooting Insight is not supposed to stand for “missed opportunity,” but sadly, that’s where this title has landed. Fans of the original IP deserve a better representation of the characters, music, and action of the series, and newcomers should be welcomed into the fold by the best the genre and the creative team have to offer. Despite some eye-catching visuals and a fantastic soundtrack, this is not a game I can recommend at its current price without some major overhauls.

Feb 5, 2025If you're really into Macross, chances are you'll get more enjoyment out of Macross Shooting Insight than others. Ultimately, though, while it has some good ideas and unique features, this is a mediocre arcade shooter, outclassed by many others in the genre.
