The game starts very slow. I almost got bored and stopped playing a few hours in. I'm glad I continue playing. The mainline story is great. A much improved game compared to the 1st Judgement game. Yakuza series is awesome.

Personally, this game was better than the first one as the story and combat was better. I also liked the main antagonist more than the mole from judgment. I also enjoy the side content a lot more especially with the dancing and all.

I have a ton of thoughts, but Metacritic's character limit isn't gonna be enough for me to express all of them, so since I'll just end up frustrated with my inability to express everything I wanna express, I'll just keep it vague. As cliché as it is to say, this game has been done an abhorrent injustice by reviewers; most reviewers seem to have chalked it up as "more of the same," when in fact, just about every single aspect of the game is a radical improvement over the original. Like, the investigation stuff is is thought out a lot better, used less generously and is featured in generally better-designed and logical scenarios. Combat is hands-down the best in the series for me, with an insanely compelling skill tree to top it all off. Tedious mechanics from the original like the Keihin gang and mortal wounds are gone; mortal wounds, conversely, have turned into one of the coolest combat mechanics in all of RGG's games with the advent of the mortal reversal mechanic. Story pacing is a significant improvement as well. I still don't know if I prefer this story over Judgment's, but both are excellent in my eyes and rounded out with a phenomenal cast of characters.
To address the elephant in the room, I wanna mention that some outlets have taken umbrage with what they believe to be a controversial depiction of sexual assault. I can understand this perspective, and I don't think anyone's wrong to be so vigilant about this, but I still believe this to be primarily an overreaction. I won't speak to this in too much detail (unlike GameInformer, who outright spoiled a significant plot point relating to this), but I think that when you consider the circumstances of this plot point, and WHY it happened, then you'll most likely understand that the game isn't trying to push a specific narrative in this regard. It's really an innocuous depiction, I think, that's only offensive if you want it to make it an offensive thing.
Overall though, I love this game. It's a massive step-up from the original, with a stellar story, cast, gameplay and suite of side-content. It's a serious contender for my favorite RGG game.

Everything feels like playing a game from ps2 times. Especially the movements, running, collisions with npcs

Many dialogs were didn't have audio. I thought it's a bug, but I realized that English audio was just not added.

Conclusion: Engaging story, but I played it on Easy so it can finish quicker.

Man I really wanted to love Lost Judgment. I thought Judgment was a worthy successor to the Yakuza. The combat itself is improved over judgment, with the addition of the new Snake style (which makes boss fights a bit less grindy imo). So if you are just here for the combat, you'll be happy. However, everything else is really just ok.

The story focusing on Bullying leading to suicide is an interesting take on a Yakuza story, but how it all comes together is just messy. IDK how bad bullying is in Japanese schools but how the game makes this go though Gangs, former Yakuza, and political entities feels even more convoluted than a normal Yakuza game. Its not bad, I don't think anything in this game would be called bad, just not polished or interesting as previous games are. The game adds a character to be the emotional reason for going on but she doesn't get much time at all for me to get invested in her story and it feels a bit like a cop out at times. The BBEG is also pretty one-dimensional, while other final bosses have some depth to them, this dude is just, violence can be used for good archetype and not done that well. They clearly wanted it to be as cool and deep as Kuroiwa was, but it just felt flat and kind of meaningless. There are some really cool and emotional moments but they were few and far between.

All Yakuza games use the previous games side content and world maps (Kamurocho, Ijincho, etc.) and they have varying degrees of success in making the area and content stand out against the previous entries. Lost Judgment side content at time feels like a copy/paste of Judgment, the side cases aren't really original or interesting and few of them. On the bright side, there are side cases specifically linked to the school, here si where they do make up for it, while some of the minigames associated with them get repetitive they are all fun and as good of side content Yakuza games can get.

The opening number is a banger, no karaoke is a bummer, some of the references to older games are fun without being "remember this" kind of stuff, the performances are fine nothing terrible but nothing award worthy and the game runs pretty well overall.

Honestly this game should have had another rewrite or two for this game to be really good. It takes the rock solid framework from the Yakuza series and Judgment but doesn't add enough substance for it to be a game I would recommend unless you've already beaten the rest of the mainline games.

And there are loads more of these examples through-out the entire game.

    - Side content in the game is massive, arguably Yakuza 5-esque. You have a new dancing, biker gang, skateboarding and robot mini-battle type side stories that gives the game a whole new look and all this ties into its own central storyline, making just the side content of this game feel like its own game considering you're getting 20-30 hours here.
    - The story is very dark, engaging and does an excellent job tackling bullying and sexual assault among its main themes, and covering these topics in a way that makes it feel very real and relatable.. I cannot remember any other game that has tackled a sensitive topic like bullying to this depth.
    - New standout characters like Soma and Kuwana are memorable and very well-written. The game looks gorgeous in the PS5 and I look forward to the Kaito files DLC in a few months.
    - The only drawbacks are the annoying QTE during fights, tailing and other stealth mechanics that were hard to enjoy, pacing issues with the story and the feeling that in some instances, more could have been done - these are small drawbacks compared to the massive improvements brought about. When you have a series that does everything so well, the few drawbacks are more apparent because we get conditioned to expect such a high standard of gaming compared to most mainstream titles. 9.3/10. Must play.

I’ve never played any of the Yakuza games or the previous judgement game and I was just fine hopping in here with Lost Judgement as it is a self contained story, Here you play as detective Takayuki Yagami, the game starts with a man being arrested for groping a woman at a train station, all while you’ve been hired to infiltrate a highschool to stop bullying.. a teacher from this school was murdered, and eventually all things get entertwined, a murder, sexual assult, bullying.. and you have to untie and connect all of the loose threads…
The game tackles a serious subject of suicide and bullying all while managing to not take itself so seriously at the same time… youll be handing it to these snot nosed bullies multiple times throughout the day, and solving a murder mystery by night, and I was glued to my seat.. at least for the first half of the game.. here youll do a mix of running from point a to be, stealthing past enemies, getting into fights, and scoping out areas for clues to to progress the story.. and every once in a while get into a chase or teach a dance class… theres a great amount of variety here to keep you enteretained not to menton the horus upon hrs of side missions to really flesh this world out.. but ultimately Lost Judement went on far too long.. I loved the story, all of the twistand turns.. but by hours 12 or so, I was just ready for them to get on with it… stop sending me on this wild goose chase and just end this already… None of the new information was compelling and even if it were, this new info would be stretch out across hours leading me to just be over it before even more new info came in to be stretched out another 2-3 hours.. this story could’ve easily been trimmed down towards the end..
But overall Lost Judgement offers a compelling murder mystery worth sitting down with for a week..
One that’s simple and accessible enough to feel like a tv series you sit down with for a few hours a night..
The pacing gameplay wise is amazing, and if you love your self some crime dramas pick this one up..
    I give Losst Judgement

I have yet to complete the story, but the new additions to what was already a great experience. Lost Judgment seems to land all of its kicks and punches right on the nose. Expand

I was a very big fan of the first Judgement and part of me was worried that since Yagami's character arc was essentially done in the last game, his generic demeanour would have dulled the experience. Thankfully I was wrong. Yagami is a phenomenal protagonist and there are so many gameplay features that are new or have been built on from the previous game that it is very worthwhile to play this game instead of watching a YouTube video of the always incredible story.

What keeps this game from reaching that 10 is simply the same flaws that haven't been thoroughly addressed from Judgement. Lost Judgement still has pacing issues with the crucial game modes like the tailing and listening missions. When this game is flowing that well and it all comes to a halt with those modes, the impact is very noticeable. I am well aware that there is a significant decrease of these modes but they still exist. I think for this mode to work as well as in games like Assassins Creed there need to be more of a focus on this for the next Judgment game. It is necessary as it is natural for Yagami, a detective to do these things.

The other flaws that this game has is one that resides in the combat. Judgment's combat had an issue where the Tiger style was far superior to the Crane style as you get deeper into the game. RGG definatly tried addressing that by makeing Crane stronger and bringing in the equally strong Snake style but the issue is the fact there all the styles have lost their identity. You can use any style for any fight and some might see that as a posiitive because of the freedom to combat it brings but personally for me this seems unessaary. They either need to add more unique weaknesses to the styles or add stronger enemies. The only time the Styles matter is the Amon fight. Everyother time you are fine with whatever style you choose. This is not major gripe but honestly me just nitpicking. Outside of that the Combat is still very good but there is still room for improvement.

I dont want to get into the story too much for the sake of spoilers but this is a must see. That is all I can say about it.

Lost Judgment is currently the Game of The Year and worth every dollar and I am looking forward to the Kaito DLC.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is very easy to get into, as it has some content that makes you think about bullying, and everyone would have been on the sidelines once about what was happening around you. Also, at the end of the story, I was impressed by the fact that a certain character who said "kaitou" said "I can understand his feelings" speaks for the feelings of fighting and the feelings of the player in one word. was. From that point of view, I think it's a game with a good story that makes me think because it seems that both opinions are correct. Besides that, it is also attractive to be able to play another story and club activities through club activities of high school students as a game. The story of my girlfriend is also very cute and memorable. If you make a one-hour TV drama, it seems that you can make up to two season 2 and TV specials, and there is a drama part for about 1200 minutes. It is the content that seems to be. Since the game elements come in there, it is a perfect score for playing. The capacity is twice that of the previous work, so you can easily imagine it. It was a wasteful game to end. Also, the stage in Yokohama, where Japan's Chinatown is located, is reproduced almost perfectly, so I think it's good for people who like traveling. If you are a fan of Takuya Kimura, you should definitely buy it. I think it's a god game. Expand

What I Like: Story is really captivating with never a dull moment. Much better pacing than the first game. Yagami is fleshing out to be pretty badass, but still not quite Kiryu levels. Gameplay, especially combat is also much better with more depth and variety. Some of the less interesting gameplay sections like tailing a target or taking spy shots are not as prevalent in the main line, which is better for me.

What I Dislike: Some of the side characters aren't as well written in this game. Feels a bit too easy for me at times, with more handholding than previous games. For some reason, the world doesn't feel as vibrant. Eating for example is kinda pointless.

How It Stacks Up: It's Yakuza all grown up. The first Judgment didn't quite resonate with me, but this one hit all the right notes. Offers a more mature setting than Like A Dragon, and also quicker to finish. It leaves little breathing room to do side quests, but that's how I like to play Yakuza games (mainline first, then all the open world stuff in Premium Adventure mode). For people new to Yakuza, personally I'd still recommend Like A Dragon, or even Yakuza 0 over this, unless you're really into detective stories.

But let's talk about things that could be done much better:
    1. School stories - as long as final outcome of the story was very nice, the rest was unpolished and leaky.
    - dancing club - the worst music I ever heard in RGG studio games - being forced to dance every song 3 times pissed me off
    - girls bar - dying of boredom, forced to get to know 4 girls
    - boxing gym - that wasn't bad, but the mechanics of fighting could be done better
    - biker gang - that was nice... first 2-3 races. But then you have to race 10 more to finish this story - it was big pain for me
    - skating club - mechanics was very stiff, if you ever played any skateboarding game then you know how it should look like - I couldn't feel skateboarding here
    - mystery research club - "hey, Yamato, why don't you come visit a club, because I'm so braindead that I don't know how to use my cellphone"
    - photography, esports, casino - at least they were short
    - robotics club - the only club that I can say I fully enjoyed
    2. Repetition. In side quests or achievements like "Do something xxx times" or "Fight all characters in virtual board game". It's just artificial game lengthening.
    3. Main story was really stupid (40 year old man beating teenagers while trying to stay law oracle) or predictable sometimes (train camera evidence clearly showed where the story is going).
    4. Too many cutscences that cannot be skipped - I mean animations, when you start minigames. Also there was problem that you cannot simply restart minigames - you have to go to the main menu, then load...
    5. Stealth mechanics... terrible.

I'm really happy that some of the mechanics were improved, but they added so much content that they lack time to polish it properly. If all UX problems I mentioned were fixed I would give this game 9. Unfortunatelly after 60 hours with it I got frustrated enough to give it 6 instead.

Lots of improvements over Judgment. I just really dig this Japanese "Jack Reacher meets Law & Order" vibe; it's like a season of a great cop drama that you can play. It also tries to communicate with us that even if our institution fails to protect those as it should. It's also extremely problematic when we try to rectify those problems with our own hands, because our actions may drag others down who doesn't have anything to do with this if we try to enact justice with our own beliefs. Due Process even if it's imperfect, and sometimes fails to deliver justice to those who have been wronged, it's still the best option to give fairness to both the victim and the perpetrator.

It's a very well written game, which aboard extremely sensitive topics in modern society and isn't shy about it, my respect to the developers who had the courage to go through with it even amidst this polarized society. The story is a masterpiece of twists and turns, highlighting many issues within society. If the original game is the marker, this meets it with pride.
