It's another dumpster like the last games and somehow is the worst one in the series. Don't buy this game it's a literal scam that uses queer baiting for sales. Absolute garbage.

I just didn’t like it..
Usually in life is strange games im glued to the seat, feeling like I cant wait for the next chapter or episode, but after the first chapter, I never felt this feeling for the rest of the game, the pacing is so slow, the entire story takes place in the same little down, rarely do you get dialog options or choices, making you feel more of a bystander than someone actually making a difference in a town that needs saving in your eyes.. I flet like I was just mildly partaking in a drawn out, slow boring stoy, by occasionally having to find a feather or a bottle of alcohol to progress the story.. though I will admit, there was one decently cool chater where yooure larping.. theres a final sequence in that chapter where the astetics of the entire game changes,as you see through the eyes of a child, and I just wish the entire chapter was like this… which brings me to your power.. its not a life is strange game without a super power.. your super power here is… reading emotions.. basically youre an empath, you can read emotions, get into the min of people to help them overcome those emetions to push the story forward, but I never felt like this was a cool power, it was kind of just there, no real persuasion or again dialog options to move the needle.. just ocassionally hold down a button and here some internal dialog to find out how a charcter is feeling and help them feel better…
Overall I was pretty disappointed in true colors..
Did I cry once or twice? Sure… but did it just happen to be one really good scene and didn’t really earn those tears? That’s how I feel. The charater building is lacking here, moments with your brother or love interests just down get deep or personal enough for me to ultimately care as much as I feel I should about the story and its outcome..
I don’t regret my time spent with true colors, but I feel with how little actually happens her and how little you get to interact with the story, theres far too much filler..
I give Life is Strange: True Colors

Your choices only make small differences as well, not effecting the outcome in a major way. The game certainly holds your hand throughout, so there is really no difficulty or challenges in completing it. Very much a story only game which makes a lot of it very boring. I'd recommend this as a rental to collect easy trophies/achievements, definitely not worth the $60 price tag. Expand

La historia es entretenida, aunque sin llegar al nivel de los dos primeros. Le sigue faltando un doblaje al castellano tan necesario para un juego NARRATIVO. No me encontré ningún bug reseñable y a nivel jugable responde bien.

As a fan of the series and previous entries, I expected something better but ended up in a disappointment.
The game is too short, it’s only 8-9 hours doing side quest and finding the collectibles. I think it’s not worth the full 60 dollars being that short.
Story was so bland and light compared to LIS 2, or even the first one. LIS 2 had a lot of tension and intersting moments to remember,

Storytelling, voice acting, animations are good as usual, that’s why I’m rating it a 6.
It’s a shame because it could’ve been much better. I think it was a mistake to drop the old system of selli h chapters separately, since each chapter could last 3 hours.

Would have rated it higher if I were to rate it as a PS4 game. But I bought it for my PS5. It's unacceptable that the devs are either so greedy to release it at its current state or too lazy and incompetent to optimize the game for the PS5. It plays like a last-gen game at 30fps and slooooow loading times.

30 FPS is unacceptable, this is a simple game from the technological perspective - how come it is limited to 30 fps and has such long downloads? And why can't I skip the boring dialogues? I stopped playing the game until it gets patched.

PS5 and Xbox Series X would have EASILY handle this game at 60 fps but Deck Nine excused their lazyness by telling us that they did that on purpose.

Also the game is filled with several seconds loading screen when you go from inside to outside, when once again the consoles would have been able to handle no loadings screen at all or very short time loadings.. There's nothing immersive in a sluggish 30 fps with frequent 10-12 seconds loading screen. There's no excuse a game like Miles Morales can play at Dynamic 4K + Ray Tracing + 60 Fps + No loading AT ALL on PS5. Deck Nine, you missed the mark completely with this one and it's unacceptable. You didn't took the time or the will to optimize your game, don't you dare tell us it was on purpose. We're not dumb.

This game is extremely expensive. The greedy developers are charging $60 for this interactive movie. The first Life Is Strange was $5 per episode, making it a total of $25. The story is poorly written with cringeworthy dialogue. The running animations are also cringeworthy. The graphics are trash. Despite the trash graphics, the game still manages to have loading screens when entering/exiting interiors. That is very PS2-like. It's already bad enough that this so-called PS5 game has garbage animations. To make matters worse, this game doesn't even have an option to run this game at 60 fps. How can a bare-boned game with terrible graphics not run at 60 fps on a PS5 console? That is embarrassing. The in-game arcade games are more fun than the game itself.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is not a reason to touch this game again. Charging $60 for a 9-10 hour campaign with no replay value is a cashgrab. You can't even play the table soccer minigame locally with a friend. Not to mention that the ball physics are pathetic in that minigame. I don't recommend this game at all. Just wait for it to be free on PS Plus.

For me, this was a solid return to form after the misfire that LiS 2 is. Alex as the new main protagonist is a real winner, as was the single location and consistent cast of characters.

I'd probably rate it an 8.5/10 or 9/10 but I'm bumping it up to a full 10 to combat all the stupid review bombing.

The characters are well developed for the most part and none of them feel out of place like in Life Is Strange 2 – although I’m not sure a weed café is the most realistic type of establishment in a tiny town full of about five shops (how on Earth do they stay in business?!). However, I really appreciated how the game captures the feeling of a small, country town with great success.

Life Is Strange: True Colors is another mixed bag – albeit a better one than its predecessor. Maybe one day the writers will finally be able to learn that sometimes less is more – or at least understand the difference between meaningful character moments and inconsequential filler.

    A LONG WAITED GAME
I’m a huge fan of Life Is Strange -series. I don’t think they are just video games, but fully realized concepts of humanity and what it means to be a human with superpowers. In the first game the main character had a superpower of rewind time and change happenings, it also changed so many other things and unbalanced the whole balance on nature, bringing chaos. Life Is Strange: True Colors’s main character have also a superpower, this time to feel and affect other people’s emotions.

    A SUPERWOMAN
The main character Alex are old enough to leave the foster care and goes after his brother who lives in peaceful town Haven. They haven’t seen each other for years. Everything goes wrong when Alex’s brother dies in an accident that could’ve been avoided. That’s when her superpower of feeling other’s emotions comes in handy, as she tried to uncover why he was killed.

    GAMEPLAY, STORY, GRAPHICS
The gameplay is rather simple in True Colors and the main thing is to interact with other people and use your power. That’s also when all the most important decisions comes that’ll have long and unchangeable consequences and in the end of the game it all ravels into one. Everything you do and don’t do in Haven have consequences. For example, I didn’t interact with everyone and in the end I had to pay for that.

What makes the gameplay easier is the fact that this time the game are released as whole and not episodically in every three (or so) months. It was much easier to play and remember all the interactions and characters this time. That episodically released previous games was my biggest problem with the games, because it was so hard to remember all the decision I’ve made previously.

Story-wise the plot was good, even though I could tell many events beforehand. True Colors is very much re-playable, trying to get your best ending. I got my ending as I wanted for the first time around.

Graphically the game looks nice. It have much updated look compared to the other games of the saga.

    THE VERDICT
Life Is Strange: True Colors is yet another good Life Is Strange game. What is the best part is the fact the game is released as whole. The game is approx. 8 hours long.

    Huge drawbacks :
    1. Ending - the story is one of the most satisfying if it wasn't of the ending how the creators decide to go about it. The idea is to make it based on the players major decisions in the game. the idea is great but the execution in the end is bad. very disappointing.

    2. The game is very short - considering i platinumed the game, i never felt this longing for more in a game right after i platinumed it. not in a good way, but because it is waay too short. you could probably finish the game in less than 5 hours

This game does not compare to the original LIS, but it's way better than the second one. As a comparison the first game being the largest black hole in the universe this is just an ant and the second one a grain of sand.

It's an example of how good music can make a game that is not as well thought in the matter of storytelling and mechanics, to be good. If the game didn't have the awesome soundtrack it would be a 4/10, not an 8/10. The soundtrack is awesome, the zen moments are an awesome idea, a thing that I was doing since I started gaming it's now supported and encouraged by developers. I found myself sit 15 minutes or more in a zen moment just watching the beautiful graphics and feeling the song.

But still, the soundtrack isn't as good as the first game, but it's still very good. But I was expecting way more, given that Alex is intro music. And music being the central theme that revolves through the game. In the first game that was the photography and in the second drawing. So I think we deserved more attention to the music. We received less music than in the first game.

For the story, I don't know how you can miss this bad, with the background being so perfect, lonely, and peaceful town, Alex the protagonist that is a newcomer and is awaiting to see the mysteries that the town can offer. It could be much better, anyone can think of something better. So I must assume that they did that on purpose, the story is so simple on purpose, like a manifest that things aren't always so complicated and complex. I respect the writers' decision, the game didn't make me burst into tears like in the first list, but it didn't make me wish that it ends faster like the second one.

The graphics are awesome, the eyes of the characters are so cool, like how the move, respecting the classic lis art style, is so beautiful. The town the Main Street, the road, omg just fills you with an ease and peaceful emotion.

Another thing that I noticed, playing this on the ps5. Is the dualsense missed opportunities. The game has dual sense support, but it's not there in all of the cases that it could be. I mean it isn't hard to feel on a playthrough where that feedback is missing and you are wondering why so easy to find those spots.

I think biggest the problem with this game is that the first one exists, the game is worth playing and buying, one of the best games of this year, but when you compare it with Life Is Strange, the original, you even can't compare, the masterpiece of gaming and storytelling it's hella light-years away from True Colors.

With a beautiful setting and a world that feels alive. After playing this you might want to move to a small mountain town like Haven minus the controversial business practices. The game has a good cast and solid writing that really let's you care about almost everybody. This game somewhat similar to the original is a murder mystery mixed with the supernatural, romance, comedy, drama and a plotwist towards the end that nearly mirrors the original. One thing this game really improves on is the graphics while maintaining the same art style which is great to hear from any Life is Strange fan, this game uses Mo cap which is great because one issue it previously struggled from was the lack of emotion on characters faces. Another big improvement are the romantic options, previously in the games one romantic option would not compare to another in likability or be focused on much compared to the other(IE Finn for likability, IE Warren Graham for lack of attention) but this game really stepped it up both romantic options have great qualities and a great deal of focus from the narrative. Overall this game is pretty solid what is does suffer from is a bit of a lackluster and abrupt final chapter, the actual ending is good but the final chapter itself is really all over the place, which takes it down a few notches for me. Overall I'm feeling a light 8/10 on this game, really being the only game that comes somewhat close to the original. Expand

It is a bit like a telltale type game and those certainly aren't for everyone, making this game difficult to recommend to just anyone and while the game is fun, there's nothing particular special about it in comparison to others of these types of games. The new power for this installment of Life is Strange is certainly more interesting than LiS2 but not quite as interesting as the time travel stuff in LiS1. Personally, if this is your first Life is Strange game, I think you would be better off picking up the Remastered Collection of the first two games that is available on Playstation, Switch, Xbox and PC. The first game is 100 percent better than this one. That being said, if you did enjoy that one, you'll probably enjoy this one and this would be very much worth picking up at that point. Expand

    Pros
    - Well written story.
    - Very well developed main and side characters - Haven is the best decor of all LiS games thus far. - The 'empath' function is fun to use, and the controller gives nice haptic feedback (trigger resistance, rumbling) when using. - The Ray traced shadows really added something to the game. Cons - The game is not well optimized for the ps5, unfortunately. - Stutter

    - The game is not well optimized for the ps5, unfortunately.
    - Stutter issues when panning the camera are still present however, this is not a deal breaker imo.
    - I found the low res visuals at 1080p pretty distracting, so I sticked to 4K30 instead.
    - Very 'in your face' chromatic aberration - no option to turn it off either - which I found to be discracting from time to time.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this game.

Another strong point of the offer are the interactable objects. However the game has some weaknesses such as the plot and characters (apart from alex) and the last flaw is that the content creators will have to turn off copyrighted music so you can see scenes where maybe characters are dancing without music Expand

Great game, great characters, great protagonist, great soundtrack. I didn't like LiS 2 but this one is one of the bests. There at top with LiS and BtS. Deck Nine did a great job with this one and True Colors is incredible!!! I love this game!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first three episodes of the game show you this wonderful little world with its nice set of characters with different traits and personalities that's definitely benefiting from Alex's power. When the game starts to truly shine by the end of episode three however, all of the sudden the game decides to rush to the end like somehow the developers were reminded that they only had time for five episodes and the actual plot of the game had gone nowhere yet. Like listen I'm the first person who prefers a game that focuses on a single storyline without showing that much of the world it's built on if that's what you want, what you can't do though is shove all these different characters in my face and try to convince me to get interested in them if you're suddenly going to ditch them mid game to tell the story you wanted to tell in the first place. So somehow the developers thought it would be a good idea to spend 85% of an episode on a LARP that has nothing to do with the story and does not progress any of the character's arcs on any way, shape or form and then cut like 50% of episode 4 because I don't know if was me or that episode didn't last more than 15 minutes, and then all of the sudden tell me the whole back story for my character in the last 20 minutes of the game to then have her choose her forever happy ending with a character I've spent 15 minutes with. Overall the game feels rushed to me, the romantic choices are so obvious it feels like you're on a TV show picking your bachelor /Bachelorette and the actual story fell completely flat on its conclusion. Next time either take your time with the world you built and make more episodes or tell the story and cut out the the pointless parts. This games tries too hard to make you like the characters and completely forgets that's telling a story, you can't have it all Deck Nine. Expand

The developers stated they'd done this on purpose for "cinematic" reasons, but that's a load of BS, they could have taken a leaf of of Ghost of Tsushima book and capped the cut scenes to 30 FPS. Considering this game can run at 60 FPS on PC it's clearly a cover up for the fact this game is just a poor port to console. It has its bugs and the raytracing literally doesn't work. Maybe future patches will fix these issues, but the poor frame rate is a deal breaker as it kills the immersion, and for me, makes the game unplayable.

My score for the game is average but describing the game as such would be unfair. The best way to summarize True Colors is a "could have been", which makes it ultimately worse than being average throughout.

Non-spoiler review here, from a perspective of a player who really enjoyed the first LiS, the prequel and was rooting for Deck Nine to succeed with assumed creative freedom. My score for the game is average but describing the game as such would be unfair. The best way to summarize True Colors is a "could have been", which makes it ultimately worse than being average throughout.

I'll start off with the positives: the game has the familiarity of a Life is Strange, even to a fault. The fonts, the walking pace, animations, thoughts and comments Alex makes about stuff around her (posters, flowers, gnomes), text messages, a journal: all that is here, if you were hoping for it. The soundtrack is good, and helps shape the overall atmosphere, even though it lacks the impact of the first game. I also enjoyed the humor and a choice for your character to be awkwardly sarcastic, which made (my) Alex Chen different from both Max and Chloe, while still sharing some of the same sensitive aspects of their personalities. The initial set-up for the game takes time and getting to know the people around town works, since you are arriving there for the first time as a blank slate. The anticipation, excitement and anxiety of a "new life in the unknown" is portrayed well through dialogue, text messages and even the town's own "facebook group", which is probably the highlight of the game. Overall, the first 2-3 episodes of the game made me feel mostly excited about everything that... could be.

While the characters and voice acting are mostly great and uncanny valley is not a factor, the town itself is a mixed bag. First of all, Haven being a mining town, similar to Dontnod's Twin Mirror's Basswood, seems too much to be a coincidence. But despite this similarity, Basswood actually felt like a "backwoods little town" with an enjoyable and belieavable identity. True Colors' Haven feels like a downtown Seattle street surrounded by fake mountains and a lake for a-hole tourists to kayak in. The main street has a collector's vinyl store, a niche indie rock radio station, a weed store, an artisan ice cream boutique, a newly opening coffee shop (ugh) and some weird art and statues that don't fit in the environment at all. Haven feels more like a 20 year-oldish hipster art student's idea of a "cool mining town" and this made exploring more annoying than interesting, since you are reminded of this almost every other minute. All this is magnified by the fact that you don't get to explore any other area in this game, with one small exception. The main street, a few shops, your room, and that's it. I still can't believe how small the game. The only cool area is the town's bar, where all the main characters and miners seem to practically live, reinforcing the absurdity of having the aforementioned niche stores around when nobody would visit them anyway.

The story being told at first through the environments and interacting with all the new people is well executed and I felt immediately attached to a few characters, especially to Alex and her brother Gabe. I was genuinely moved by a few moments early and mid-game and couldn't wait to see what happens next. The empathy "super power" mechanic is not inherently bad but the execution is very shallow. You just read someone's mind for a single sentence and most of the time you already know what they are going to "think" anyway. This same mechanic was done in a 2014 game Murdered: Soul Suspect and here it is used almost exactly the same way, which is kinda weird honestly.

My biggest issue with this game, despite all the positives I mentioned, is that the initial promise on what is to come is never truly redeemed. The story seems logical when I think about it on paper and the twists were surprising, but the pacing and reveals of the final 2 episodes were so, so jarring, that they didn't have the intended emotional impact despite me being invested in the story at first. Characters suddenly acted in an entirely different fashion, your choices were not addressed nor did they have meaning even on a dialogue level and all of this happens within a 20 minute period and then the game is done. The final choice was obvious to me but the game tried to force me to go the other way, which makes me think that the writers didn't realize what they were portraying or rushed the game and didn't have time to consider the big picture. I couldn't wait to play LiS 1 again, making the opposite choices and see what happens yet I have no interest in replaying True Colors. The game is shorter than it implies and I feel a little betrayed and played for a fool having paid 50€ for it. Usually I don't care about this and I rather pay full price to support a good game but here it really bothered me. Stuttering 30fps on a PS5 on top of that.
I think the original LiS was something that cannot be recreated. It was a game born from desperation and creative freedom by people who had nothing to lose. We still have that.

Fun factor from this game for me was terrible. Alex's superpower is not as cool as previous game's characters powers. That reason gameplay is boring, players can't fight, can't change time or do other epic actions. Most of gameplay is roaming on the streets of little town, speak with "friends". Characters in game are too soft, too weak for me. They have personality, but I felt like in teen drama. We don't have strong lider, woman, man. All characters are crying babies, and Alex's must speak with them about feelings. After excellent Life is Strange 2 I expected something more than "teen drama".
Controls in game is good on ps5, players can use a few buttons with intuitive placement on gamepad.
Graphics looks nice and stylized on animation movie (like Shreck), this is big plus, because that kind of graphics slowest get old. City is full of details, and look nice so it's another advantage.
About sound in this game I cannot tell much. Is not good, but not bad. Voice acting can be better, songs used in game are pretty fresh and cool.
Despite boring plot the newest part of series offer a lot of morality choice with impact to game, maybe not that big impact as previous parts of LiS, but still True colors is replayable game, minimum two times.
Life is Strange: True Colors is not bad game, but if you don't like teen drama you will be disappointed, but if you want kill some time, you like shallow plot and you don't have other games to play you can try True Colors.

The end result is a remarkable, powerful game. Life is Strange: True Colors stays true to the series’ roots, using supernatural twists and an underlying mystery as the backdrop for a story that’s focused on the quiet beauty of everyday life and the connections that form between people. Within that, it carves its own path with a moving exploration of the power of empathy and the importance of finding a place to call home.
