May 16, 2026Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is a faithful and visually improved return to a cult classic that shines because of its storytelling and atmosphere rather than its gameplay. It is a remaster made for fans first, not a reinvention for a new generation.

Apr 3, 2026Outside of Defiance Remastered‘s improvements and additions, this is still very much a game of the early-2000s, warts and all. Crystal Dynamics had an engaging combat system and a complex narrative. But there’s still a tendency for fights to become repetitive, especially when Kain and Raziel aren’t vastly different from each other mechanically. The story might still bounce around in frustrating or confusing ways. Levels may go on for longer than you wish. But it is still very much a piece of gaming history that many hope will eventually see a resurgence.

Mar 30, 2026If you've the time and patience for a game that's almost two and a half decades old in remastered form, then you can do a lot worse than Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Defiance is a throwback to the simpler days of action adventure games that some may struggle to tolerate in this day and age, but if you grew up playing it and want to schedule a revisit all these years later, then go right ahead. If you demand more from your action adventures, you certainly won't find anything here that rivals the modern bigwigs of the genre, but ultimately you will still find this remaster to be worth several hours of your time.
