Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered from developers Guerilla Games and Nixxes is a worthy update from the 2017 game. The update brings many visual enhancements, improves environments, and creates better character interactions. It brings a great game up to PlayStation 5 standards and helps bridge the gap between the original and the sequel.

One of the most aesthetically pleasing remasters to date is Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. While it improves the original game, it still has some minor visual issues. It also introduces all the upgrades and mechanics that made Forbidden West so successful. An excellent time to jump in to the franchise or give it another try.

Nixxes has once again delivered a quality piece of work, making a beastly 2017 game feel like a current PS5 and PC release. Not everyone will appreciate it because it doesn't modify gameplay at all and focuses on visual details, but you only have to play the original to see that there's much more to it than meets the eye.

An occasionally subtle, but nevertheless substantial upgrade to the original Horizon Zero Dawn that, while I don't necessarily think it's an upgrade that needed to be made, I'm glad it was.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered is a superb remaster of an incredible title, but the question must still be asked... was it a necessary upgrade?

For those of you who have not experienced the game and are looking for the best way to play, there is no doubt that Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered is your answer. Even if the last time you played was 7 years ago on the PS4 version, I would tell you that this is an upgrade that is worth your time and money. This is a facelift that does a favor to the original game and improves its visibility in every way, just don't expect changes in gameplay or additional content.

While still very much the same game, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is gorgeous in every way, improving on the original in different ways.

By almost every metric, Horizon Zero Dawn is a classic action RPG. For anyone who missed it, the Remastered edition is definitely the version to pick up. For those who already own it, the upgrade to Remastered is a reasonable $10 and at least on PS5, PS4 cloud saves work just fine. If the new and improved visuals inspire folks to play the game, or play it again, that’s a win for everyone.

Without quite matching the technical performance of Forbidden West, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered easily becomes the ultimate version of Aloy's first adventures. The game is more beautiful than ever and offers a facelift that is both super generous and successful... In short, it is THE version to discover this excellent action-adventure game.

Once again, Nixxes delivers an excellent remaster, with updated visuals that brings Zero Dawn on par with Forbidden West. The Dualsense support along with improved animations and character models makes this the definitive edition for both new and returning gamers.

It was a pleasure to return to this game after years without touching it, and it became clear to me that there are certain products in the industry that will take a long time to feel outdated, this is one of them. It was a gem in 2017 and continues to be in 2024, a must play for those who just bought a PS5.

While it would have been nice to have gotten new content or more Forbidden West improvements, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered delivers a still strong story, smooth gameplay at either 30 or 60fps and gorgeous visuals. Horizon 3 is still stubbornly far away, but Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered should hopefully make the wait a little easier.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered offers a fresh coat of paint to a game that was already boasting beautiful graphics, bringing it on par with its sequel. If you've never played it before, it's a great excuse to get into the series and if you have already completed it then the low cost of the upgrade is a good excuse to relearn the lore and dig into a New Game+.

While it is true that we are facing a completely unnecessary remaster, the different possibilities to enjoy it are quite accessible. The visual improvement is indisputable, and it is gratifying to be able to play the original installment with the technical section of the sequel. In addition, if we take into account that the remaster includes the expansion "The Frozen Wilds" with new areas, weapons, enemies and characters, they make this remaster a product of greater value and interest than other remasters such as Until Dawn or The Last of Us.

Horizon Zero Dawn might not have needed a remaster, but Nixxes has put in some serious effort to bring this great game bang up to date and make full use of the capabilities of the PS5. And so, whether you're a fan wanting to jump in for another playthrough, or a newcomer to the series, it's a no-brainer.

A worthy upgrade that brings it closer to the fidelity of its sequel, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the best version of a great sci-fi RPG. Guerrilla Games and Nixxes Software have turned this remaster skeptic into a true believer.

If by dumb luck or some other unique set of circumstances you have yet to play Horizon Zero Dawn, then this is arguably by far the best way to experience one of the best open world efforts out there that still holds up extremely well even today. Perhaps most encouragingly, Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster also heralds the fact that Nixxes is a force to be reckoned in the console porting space too, representing an added feather in the cap for Sony and its burgeoning PlayStation Studios portfolio as we barrel towards the fourth anniversary of PlayStation 5.

As beautiful to play as the first Horizon Zero Dawn, as beautiful to look at as the latest Horizon Forbidden West. This is how you can sum up this Remastered, which keeps the gameplay of the original intact while increasing the graphic rendering thanks to the greater hardware resources available. In particular, Aloy and the other characters are now much more expressive and move in a world in which nature is lush and the anthropic structures stand out solemnly among volumetric effects with a realistic day/night cycle. Those who have recently played the original may not want to spend another forty hours on the Remastered, for newcomers it is one of the best ARPGs around.

Unnecessary? Yes. Impressive? Also, yes. This remaster of Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the best we've ever seen. Playing around with the remake, Nixxes Software has rebuilt many aspects from scratch and brought the original game up to par with its sequel, a technical showcase of this generation. The new lighting, character changes, and increased density of wildlife and vegetation are the highlights of this audiovisual marvel that is worth much more than the 10 euros they ask for the upgrade.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered offers a reminder of why this franchise is here to stay, as if we needed one. Guerrilla Games’ storytelling and world building is industry leading, and with the help of Nixxes, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered imbues itself with the lessons learnt from the development of the original game’s successor, Forbidden West. You may not have thought it possible, but this version of Aloy’s world is even more beautiful, with Nixxes’ subtle attention to detail resulting in a space that feels even more immersive and brimming with life. When you can upgrade for just £10, there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the best way to play one of PlayStation's defining games. It's improved visually in every way, with a great amount of love and care put into every detail and will be a joy for newcomers and fans alike.

Zero Dawn Remastered looks better and, thanks to the Dual Sense controls, plays and feels even better than the PS4 original. But you need to decide by yourself, if the ten bucks is worth it to play the game again. If you do not have the game yet, Zero Dawn, the Remastered version is just the best opportunity to play it. Not least because here you get the main game as well as worthline story extension The Frozen Wilds.

There are probably few PlayStation players left who haven't tried Horizon Zero Dawn, a game that sold well - it exceeded 24 million in April 2023 - and has even been given away for free, but we can't forget that there will always be new users who haven't yet taken the first step in Aloy's shoes. LEGO Horizon: Adventures and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered are designed for them, and the reduced-price upgrade can be an incentive to play it again looking better than ever...The value of Remastered therefore depends on our interest or affection for an epic adventure with great moments, whether it's climbing the first Longneck, discovering the mysteries of a cauldron or surviving a Devilish Garrardiente. There's something about it that makes it the most prolific PlayStation saga today.

Not at the cost of the enjoyability of the whole, mind you, but they are there in plain sight.

In a word, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is stunning. If you missed this title because you didn’t have a PlayStation 4, then this is a worthwhile purchase. Don’t expect this to be Forbidden West-caliber, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’ve already played Zero Dawn, this is much harder to recommend unless you’re a super fan. The remaster undoubtedly looks better, but I’m not sure this warrants shelling out the cash or investing precious time, unless you’ve been meaning to give this game another go.

Suffice it to say, Nixxes Software put a whole lot of work into this new revision of Horizon: Zero Dawn, even if it's not that apparent of the first glance.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a game Sony really wants you to love. This update is technically impressive on every level. The upgrade price is fair, and kudos to Nixxes for not just upping the resolution and framerate, there is a TON of work done here around the entire world. If you enjoy Aloy’s adventures, this is a no-brainer.

If you haven't played this in almost eight years or are about to experience the adventure for the first time, this version is either a good reason to do it again or the best way to do it for the first time. It is therefore quite difficult to oppose this new version when it is as fantastic as it is in many ways. Even if I still can't let go of the idea that it really wasn't needed.

However, with the exception of the full support of the DualSense controller, we can regret the absence of new features and improvements to the gameplay. The upgrade from PS4 to PS5 with three convincing graphic modes at 10 euros may be worth the cost, but the same cannot really be said about buying the Remaster full price or on a PC version graphically extremely solid, even to this day.

The storytelling and characters are as dull as ever, but Horizon Zero Dawn remains one of the best open world experiences of the last gen and now looks better than ever.

It retains certain gameplay choices and a clunky verticality that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had rendered outdated upon Zero Dawn’s release in 2017, making these aspects feel particularly aged. The decision to pick up Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered is completely dependent on your status with the original PS4 title. If you've never played the first game and like open-world adventure games, then this is definitely worth getting. From the story to the action to the decidedly different postapocalyptic setting, the game delivers a good time from beginning to end, even when factoring the expansion pack into the mix. Those people can look at the score and rate it higher. If you've played and beaten the game, then things get more complicated. For $10, the upgrade gets you much richer-looking environments and some better graphics during some of the cut scenes while also introducing some minor issues. Proper DualSense support is also thrown in for good measure, and if you're big on those things, then the price for the upgrade makes it worthwhile. However, for those who aren't so big on aesthetics and were fine with the original controls, you're best waiting a bit for LEGO Horizon Adventures to drop to get a completely different experience in this world.
