A lot of climbing and shooting arrows. 70 Euros for a seven hour game is too much. I wouldn't buy this game again.

This is the most beautiful game in the early days of PSVR2, and none other even comes close. There are several different tools you can use for climbing which keeps it from getting too stale, and the plot is decent.

It’s not perfect, but it’s great. Great visuals, unmatchably immersive and even though I agree the climbing can get stale, it’s not all the game is about. If anything I could wish less climbing and more action/crafting. All in all it’s great step ahead in VR and if things keep going this way we have great VR games ahead of us. Thanks Guerrilla and Sony :)

The game greatly showcases the power of PS5 and PS VR2. That been said the climbing gets old really fast, it's one of the most motion sickness educing games I played so far. If you can, just pick up the trail version, you won't be missing much.

Had PSVR 1 and after short while found graphics to be rubbish. PSVR 2 obvious upgrade and looking forward to playing Grand Turismo 7 which seems to better showcase. PSVR 2 for me now is what PSVR 1 should have been last time. If it's your first time to VR you will appreciate more. Horizon just a bit dull. Expand

Basically a climbing simulator. There's no open world style exploration like other Horizon games. The combat is one note. Seriously, most of this game is just awkward climbing simulation. The graphics are fantastic. But graphics with nothing else of substance to back it up is not worth buying.

It's a boring very limited tech demo. It doesn't have much in common with the actual Horizon games. Also it's definitely not a system seller or something that could convince anyone to spend $550 for PSVR2.

The game is about 85% climbing and that's it. I payed this for full 70€ price and all I got was a climbing simulator. Horizon Call of the Mountain was about 6-8 hours long and I want my money back. It also tests your physical strength a lot. Even though the fighting scenes were good and well made, and the graphics looked nice, it's not worth the full price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If this game was £15-25 it would honestly be 4-5 star but charging £60 for a 4 hour game isn't okay. The climbing is literally all the same, once you've played the first 3 mission you won't encounter anything new or challenging throughout the other 9 missions. Each mission follows the same format of climbing and then a small boss fight in which you are only allowed to move in a circle which isn't bad but get very by the end of the story as literally every boss is under the same format sucking out the uniqueness of each machine.

This is literally a £60 tech demo and the price for play time truly isn't worth it especially with how repetitive the small amount of content actually is.

After just 20 minutes one of my friends already started asking if we could go and do something else. We only kept going for another 40 min because this was supposed be to fun to do, which it wasn't. Not recommended. We re-watched Shrek 2 instead. Finished the game later by myself. Such a huge disappointment.

Don't waste your money buying tedious tech demo's. If this is all VR has to offer then we are out.

Even then, the developers were too lazy and greedy to make missions, so the majority of the short campaign is just climbing. Why didn't HFW have a first person mode in the first place? Oh that's right, greed and laziness. Not even Bethesda would be that greedy to lock first person mode behind a $60 paywall. The story is horrible and so is the protagonist. The physics are a joke. The combat is boring and repetitive.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. Charging $60 for a game with no replay value is a cash grab. Seeing how Gran Turismo 7 has PSVR 2 support for free, that means the complete Horizon Forbidden West experience is $120-130. Not to mention that this game is locked behind a $550 paywall, while GT7 isn't. This outrageous greed makes EA and Ubisoft look like saints in comparison. Jesus Christ are Guerrilla Games the greediest game studio owned by Sony. I don't recommend this poor excuse of a VR game at all.

I felt like I was on an amusement park ride only with no line. Everything looked and felt AAA. This is the high bar that other games need to meet.

The gameplay itself is fun and simple. You climb. You shoot arrows. You craft items by literally putting them together. The enemies are no cake walk. My one gripe is that in the middle of battle, I can get stuck in the crafting screen. Maybe have different back locations to pull different ammo from. Full disclosure: I am prone to motion sickness and I paced myself. I played the 8 hour story in 1 hour increments. The game has clever ways of dealing with motion sickness. Climbing feels like you are pushing the terrain away from you. Walking requires arm swinging and the movement helps. (I tried to pretend walk but kept getting off center.) On rails actions will narrow your vision so you feel like you are looking at a big screen and not messing with your brain. Dodging and turning are “snap” motions like teleporting. After a month of playing with VR, I feel a lot better about VR and this game.

No doubt that VR has its drawbacks. My living room has the bare minimum 6x7 space for VR. I would love a VR room like Troy and Abed’s Dreamatorium. The PSVR2 works with glasses but I recommend you buy lens inserts for it. I wore my smaller spare glasses with a glasses strap to keep them from falling down. I had to crank the PSVR2 to my forehead to keep the lenses aligned. A beautiful game like Horizon gets ugly without proper lens positioning. The lenses need constant cleaning. I keep a lens cloth nearby. VR is also expensive. Of all my PlayStation friends, I am the only one playing PSVR2 games. Horizon makes the most of the tech. If you are going to spend money on VR, this game is a must buy.

I've seen criticism that most of the game is climbing, but I found the climbing sections enjoyable, and thought they provided some light relief after an intense combat arena.

There is a lot of climbing, but the game keeps it engaging by layering new tools and mechanics through the 8-10 hour playtime for the main story. I find that climbing is most engaging if I play while standing up, using natural turning within my VR playspace rather than turning with an analog stick. However, there are many accessibility and control options depending on your preference and tolerance to VR.

While combat is only ~10% of the game, it is thrilling and engaging whenever it arises, with several ammo types at your disposal. What other game allows you to confront a house-sized machine at full scale with a bow and arrow? There are about ten different machines the game allows you to fight, sneak past, or flee from, sometimes throwing three or four of them at you simultaneously. It's in these hectic situations that I appreciated the game's restricted (circle-strafing) movement during combat, as there's already plenty to think about.

The diversity of stealth, chase, crafting, and story elements elevates this above a simple climbing simulator. Words can't capture the thrill I felt at being chased through ancient ruins by a giant machine, or climbing my first Tallneck in person. And yes, the game is absolutely gorgeous throughout, particularly for a VR title.

The main downside is that the game is fairly short. The main story took me about 11.5 hours the first time, but you might finish it in closer to 8 hours if you don't spend as much time gawking at scenery and cave painting as I did. I haven't platinumed the game yet at ~15 hours of playtime, but I doubt it will take less than 20 hours to do so. The game is also fairly easy; I only died three times, and none of these were in combat sequences. I do hope a Hard Mode is added eventually. Lastly, the game is reprojected from 60 to 120 Hz, so there is some visible ghosting (double-image) for fast-moving objects close to your face or while smooth-turning. I found it easy to ignore, but your mileage may vary. I would fully support if Guerrilla and Firesprite would add a Performance Mode that runs at 90 Hz native but with reduced environmental detail.

In my opinion, Horizon: Call of the Mountain is an absolute essential for anyone with a PSVR2, especially if you enjoy linear story-driven AAA adventure games and don't mind a bit of a workout. Fans of the Horizon universe will derive especial pleasure from experiencing this world at full scale, and there are plenty of cameos and lore tie-ins throughout that made me jump for joy.

This game is a slow burner, I found the pacing was slow in the first half of the game but by the end I was really enjoying it. The combat sections are great fun, and the world around you is worth experiencing in VR. The story is forgettable unfortunately. It’s not perfect, but it’s a fun game and definitely worth playing.

visually this might be one of the best looking game on any VR so far, the music makes you feel a sense of wounder about the history of the what happened up in the mountains but the story is a bit lackluster, the game play is a bit repetitive but fun never the less.

Not a full and long Horizon Game, like Zero Dawn or Forbidden West but still not bad. it is a AAA-Production and you can see it and it is also expansive for a relatively short playtime. another good thing: it is a colorful and for the most part it is a brighter game, so the mura-effect does not affect this game as much as others (but it is still not invisible!!!).

sadly it does rely on sony's reprojections technique, and it seems like that sony's reprojection technique does not work as well as expected, because it is very visible and it should not. sony reprojection implementation is much more behind compared to asw from oculus. so this game is harder for the eyes because of ghost images (for example: move your hand in front of you or strafe sideways) and this can cause eyestrain and sometimes even nausea. probably, psvr2 games will always fight with some motion blur because of "persistence blur" (thanks sony, f... hdr). if a much more powerfull ps5 pro comes out, the reprojection issue should be solved, because it is not needed anymore, but this is wishful thinking for the future ...

It gets 10 for the experience alone. It's true that's its mostly climbing, but you'll find visuals and atmosphere immersive and breathtaking at times. It's sad to see many score this game a 0; their comments on top are just pathetic, more so because its clear so much excellent work has gone into making this game

I really wanted to love this game as I'm a big fan of the series, and while I did enjoy my time with it, there is way too much climbing, which gets old very quickly. It's a shame as the combat parts are fun but too fleeting and a little bit too easy. It is a very pretty for a VR game though, so look no further if you're wanting to show off your new PSVR2.

This game is truly the PSVR2 experience at launch despite how short it was. The gameplay feels realistic, the story is fine on it’s own, the trophies are a nice balance between collecting, the story, and the challenge, and overall, it’s a great way for the VR2 to start off slowly but surely so far.

Finished in 6 hours, I don't think it would be replayable, only died to the final boss and climbing

This is main reason to buy PSVR2. Best looking VR game, ever! Controls are spot on, there is a lot things to do, a lot to manipulate, to check out. Fights are intense, feeling of living and breathing world around is breathtaking. An all-new Horizon experience that, with the help of the powerful PSVR 2, will transport you directly into this unique world full of mechanical animals, with never more opportunities to interact in one solid-length adventure for a VR title.

As a feat of technical artistry, it’s impressive, sleek, and often breathtaking. But as you’re dangling off a cliff edge, taking a breather from endless, repetitive mountain climbing, you’ll find yourself wondering whether novelty is really enough to justify such a loosely-tied journey. While the experience is impressive in fits and starts, Horizon Call of the Mountain ultimately feels like a puzzle with several pieces missing.

Feeling every bit like a AAA game set in the Horizon universe, Call of the Mountain is an immersive and visually impressive experience that falters somewhat in the combat department.
