Team Cherry not only delivers on its much-anticipated follow-up to Hollow Knight but exceeds all expectations by constructing one of the most complete and coherent video games I've played in years. Hollow Knight: Silksong is an absolute triumph.

A truly captivating game that makes difficulty its main personality trait. However, the precision of its methodical and ingenious design makes it a benchmark among Metroidvania games, capable of boasting a sumptuous status worthy of the best in the genre.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has earned a permanent place in my memory. It's an incredible sequel that expands on everything the first game introduced and gives fans an adventure full of secrets and excitement. Challenging, deep, and extremely satisfying to play. Hornet took her time, but it was worth every second of the wait.

The grueling years of work between the game's announcement and its current release are almost too much to justify a final result so astonishing it seems like a dream, but fortunately Silksong actually exists and is a monumental Metroidvania. Immense in content, sublime in art, and challenging in gameplay, Team Cherry's masterpiece objectively has no weaknesses, although its difficulty level makes it unapproachable to anyone unwilling to familiarize themselves with the numerous tools at the protagonist's disposal. The precise movement system, as well as the satisfying combat system, are a remarkable evolution of those already admired in Hollow Knight, and likewise this sequel marks a decisive step forward with a more readable game world that contributes to the creation of an unprecedented visual and narrative universe. Its difficulty and universe make it a game still reserved for an audience that loves a demanding experience despite a notable effort in its accessibility. Still, in its category, it's a king who has by no means lost his crown. The title oozes the love of its developers from every pore of its skin. In addition to being undisputed in its field, Silksong is an example for all. An example that shows what can be delivered with time and love. Like a caterpillar, the developers of Team Cherry isolated themselves in their cocoon. And for 7 years, they were able to create a video game in the image of silk: light, soft, strong, which will undoubtedly stand the test of time.

Silksong is exactly the sequel Hollow Knight deserves, excelling in terms of gameplay, game world, presentation and scope.

Was it worth it after eight long years of waiting? Yes, I think so. Hollow Knight: Silksong is beautiful and feels great to play. It’s filled with content and challenges that are fun to overcome. Its characters are delightfully expressive, and despite that charm, there’s a deeply complex and morbid air that compels one to want to save all these bugs from a terrible fate. I could have done without the numerous hours I spent on farming and other padded elements, but Silksong is still an enormously packed journey, and a tremendous payoff on a nearly decade-long wait. Just mind the challenge and don’t rush it. True endings won’t come easy, but that’s part of what makes victory feel beautiful in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Musicians know the feeling of a piece that is woven with complexity, which takes longer to learn than most, but brings commensurate satisfaction upon mastery; Silksong is the video game equivalent, sitting ready to be played and adored, but only after appropriate levels of devotion and persistence.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is bigger and better than its memorable predecessor. While its "bigger" nature brings side effects inherent to its excesses, the gameplay changes and the meticulous attention to detail are important motivators that keep us persevering through the numerous challenges of a rich, deep world filled with secrets that invite exploration for those curious and eager to dedicate themselves.

Its boss fights are exhilarating and challenging, its world is a gorgeous marvel to explore, its unpredictable art design is impeccable, and everything else about it looks and sounds stunning. There’s not much more you can ask for from the genre, and Silksong cements itself as a high watermark others will be trying to meet for years to come.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a marvellous Metroidvania, splitting at the seams with new content. But in having so many ideas it sacrifices some of the balance that made the original such a huge hit. With run backs to bosses often feeling a chore and currency scarcity preventing tool experimentation, it’s fair to say there’s still some tweaking for Team Cherry to make...Nevertheless, the love, care, and attention that's gone into this game is already very evident in its vast array of gorgeous environments, earworm audio, and delicately designed boss battles. Pharloom is a land we just can't get enough of, but it demands patience to be enjoyed to its fullest.

Silksong is a work that should definitely be played by as many people as possible. It is an incredibly well-crafted, enjoyable, and satisfying product, sold at a retail price that is almost a steal considering the effort of the developers themselves. This, however, does not mean that it is the best metroidvania ever made, or that Team Cherry is the first development studio to achieve feats like this. What is certain is that we are facing one of the most beautiful and significant titles of 2025 for countless reasons—not just for gameplay alone.

This is the text that appear after each quest you complete in Silksong and Team Cherry have indeed granted the wish of many Hollow Knight fans, even when it feels as if they overdid it with the “Challenging” part to the point I questioned if Team Cherry even wanted us to have fun sometimes.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a fantastic sequel well worth the seven-year wait. It’s bigger, bolder, and far more challenging than anyone could hope. While its steep learning curve may put off newcomers, longtime fans will appreciate how it maintains its solid metroidvania roots while inching closer and closer to a 2D Soulslike. With over 30+ hours of content for just $20, the depth on offer is nothing short of remarkable.

Brilliant boss battles, captivating world design, and immaculate platforming are all bolstered by stellar, consistent challenge, resulting in one of the best metroidvanias on the market. Granted, the side content isn’t on the same scale as cathartic accomplishment, but as a core experience, Silksong is a wonderful showcase of what happens when a team brings their desired vision to life on their own terms and schedule.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a title that also joins the ranks of the best metroidvanias of recent times. While not a major revolution, it combines the basic, advanced, and most popular concepts of the genre into a highly fun, entertaining, and unforgettable gameplay formula.
