Harold Halibut looks great, like one of Aardman’s finest, only as a video game. Unfortunately, it’s the game part that underwhelms, offering a distinctly tedious narrative adventure that is a chore to play.

Harold Halibut is a remarkable accomplishment from a visual standpoint, its breathtaking stop-motion presentation a glorious sight to marvel at. Though in its pursuit of innovative design, it all but overlooks everything else it takes to piece together a worthwhile video game. Lacking in interactivity, it certainly isn’t an experience everyone will enjoy.

While Harold Halibut offers up a warm and cozy vision of the future to explore, you have to put up with some plodding moments to really enjoy it. If you’re just here for a thrilling story or brainteasing puzzles, you’ll be disappointed. Instead, playing Harold Halibut is a bit like peering into an exquisitely crafted dollhouse, one that offers up a refreshingly retrofuturistic vision that you just want to reach out and play with.
