The simple yet robust gameplay systems provide a satisfying experience where character growth and customization are at the forefront. For tactical diehards, Refrain Chord may not scratch that itch, but Fairy Fencer fans or those simply wanting to play an intro to the genre should give this a shot.

    All in all, Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is a solid TRPG with some peaks and troughs to its gameplay. I do feel as though those who have played the original title will get more out of this, so if Fairy Fencer sounds like your bag, I’d probably investigate the remaster; Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force before trying out Refrain Chord.

    Like the first two games, Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is flawed, tonally inconsistent, and a massively repetitive grind. Re-treading this story for the third time and jump to an entirely different and less enjoyable gameplay system has made it even harder to recommend this game in spite of it's flaws. There is charm, and there are moments, and diehard Compile Heart fans might be able to push through and enjoy them, but I suspect that the people this game will truly speak to are few and far between.

    I do enjoy the game. If you're looking for a strategy RPG there are certainly worse ones out there. With all that the battles are justI do enjoy the game. If you're looking for a strategy RPG there are certainly worse ones out there. With all that the battles are just brutally long. I found myself stopping my gameplay after every 2-3 battles, mostly because if I started another I was afraid I would be late for my responsibilities. If you've got time to spend though the story is interesting enough (if not strange and cheesy.) I hope at some point I can get the time to finish it, but I'm afraid for now I'll have to move on. Really could have excelled with either shorter battles or an auto battle system.… Full Review »

    It's worth it and its a sequel but not a direct sequel from what I read. Good pacing and gameplay
