EA Sports WRC is simply the finest example of the genre. A few hitches and bugs can’t detract from a deep, breathless and wholly fun experience. Easy, right? [Issue#35, p.91]

The biggest rally franchise is back with a great title that has something for everyone. There is still room for improvement but, overall, it’s a solid option for rally fans.

With this return to the world of rally racing, Codemasters has delivered something special with EA Sports WRC. It’s rock-solid and jam-packed, and I’d expect any gearhead to get lost in it for hours. Rally fans rejoice!

Simply put, EA Sports WRC is a great game for both casual players and rally veterans, as it perfectly balances between arcade feel and realism. It would be even better if it weren’t for one of the industry’s biggest headaches – poor optimization that sucks some of the joy out of the experience.

EA's first WRC game is a good entry. With a reasonable price and plenty of content, fans will have a great time with this. The career mode is not too special, but offers enough variety and being able to build your own car is a nice extra. In addition, the gameplay is very strong thanks to good control, but the title does suffer from performance issues and visually it is rather uneven. That said, EA Sports WRC is well worth playing.

WRC has paid off for its long development process. There are more, longer stages, plenty of vehicles and various modes to keep you in the game. Once the technical pain is out of the way, there is no need to go back to Dirt Rally 2.0.

EA Sports WRC delivers an incredible legacy of the WRC, with new features that should entertain players who are fans of rally games. It has visual limitations, incompatible with the current generation, whose customization proposal tries to overcome existing flaws. It stands out, but with limitations.

EA Sports WRC will not be remembered as the best rally game because we are sure that the following titles will polish the small but numerous flaws it has, but it is a phenomenal starting point for the new Codemasters in the world of rally, and fully enjoyable since its launch with, moreover, the best response with a controller and steering wheel that we have had the pleasure to test.

WRC is a fantastic racing game. Codemasters has created an excellent entry in its rally racing library, and its first official World Rally Championship game is an accessible but still challenging experience that is all about mastery. It’s strong title in its own right, with scope to build into a fantastic ongoing series.

Those itching for a solid rally racer with plenty of modes and features backed by solid gameplay will find plenty to like about EA Sports WRC.

EA Sports WRC combines Codemasters' off-road racing pedigree with officially licensed cars, teams, and locations. The result is a confident and robust rally game that boasts super-fun driving, intense and challenging stages, and all the modes you could expect. It's only really let down by technical and performance problems. Here's hoping those will be ironed out in due course, because this is otherwise a rewarding rally game that gets (nearly) everything right.

Codemasters delivers on the track and features some of the most intense and nerve-wrecking rallye-action of the past years. Considering this is the first outing under the new license and with the Unreal-Engine, EA Sports WRC is a more than solid start, but also has its flaws in career-mode and overall balancing and presentation.

EA Sports WRC is a rally simulator with tons of content and modes, but it leaves an irregular sensation. Many modes and options feel half-baked, as if they don't give everything they could, while the technical side doesn't take advantage of the current systems, as well as presenting flaws.

EA Sports WRC falters in its technical aspects. While it meets expectations in terms of gameplay, the control of the car, particularly in curves, doesn't appear as finely tuned. With some refinements, however, it has the potential to become a compelling choice for fans of the genre.

EA Sports WRC is the first of its kind and although the result is bittersweet, it has solid foundations that could take the franchise to a better level. The heritage of Colin McRae's installments is there, Codemasters was guardian of it for 2 decades, and of course there is a vote of confidence for what they will do in future editions. Unfortunately, in his debut the result is not what was expected and amounts to a slump after a period with good results in his racing game releases. EA Sports WRC is not unplayable, nor a disaster, but it is far from great, although there is room for improvement with the passage of time and updates, so perhaps you could consider it for later.

After eight years, the legendary Codemasters has taken charge of the WRC brand. Unfortunately, their debut isn't as assured as one would expect from the creators of Dirt Rally. EA Sports WRC boasts a superb driving model and an enjoyable career, but there's much to criticize on the visual and technical fronts. The new systems seem more like a teaser and lack the necessary depth. Despite this, the driving experience is enjoyable, and it's certainly not something Codemasters should be ashamed of, although they are capable of much more.

EA Sports WRC is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, there’s no denying that this is the best rally game yet when it comes to authenticity and physics. It’s also pretty comprehensive, with a large number of locations complete with seasonal variations and a generous selection of cars. You can even build your own vehicles, which is somewhat rewarding. It’s just a shame that it’s dogged by technical issues, a career mode that feels a little ho-hum, and visuals that don’t truly impress. So, while EA Sports WRC is a solid effort, Codemasters still has work to do in order to deliver the definitive rally racer.

Unfortunately, EA Sports WRC is not one of Codemasters' best moments. On one hand the driving model is excellent and the variety of racing tracks is quite good but on the other hand it's a step back in terms of visuals while also its career mode could be described, generously, as derivative.

A refreshed but extremely unpolished new WRC experience that comes with a lot of content but in a package that lacks some essentials, we expected more from Codemasters.

These small issues add up to sour the experience – especially given the lengths the game goes to presenting itself as the definitive rally package. They feel like a further indictment on the numerous crude contexts that surround the centre of EA Sports WRC’s fantastic rally experience. It’s a shame, because when you’re behind the wheel, absolutely sending it at 150km/h on the narrowest road you’ve ever seen in your life, it feels like nothing else matters.

EA Sports WRC is a great rally game when it comes to driving. The cars feel very realistic, and the different surfaces force you to adapt your driving to be fast. Offers a solid experience for playing alone, but the online modes fall short and need more work on the technical side. [Recommended]
