Fun for a while and then gets too samey. with a lack of depth. It's just not as good as Dirt 3 and after 7 hours I just got a little bored and decided to dash for the end rather than try every race. Now uninstalled and I can't see myself playing it again.

This is an arcade racer rather than a sim but the complete indestructibility of your car ruins the fun in some ways as you just shove your way to the front and use the barriers to get around some corners more effectively.

No replays - this is a real shame, particularly considering the graphics. I personally also miss the old flashbacks - at least give people the option of them.

Buggy - crashes quite often (about every 45 minutes of play time for me) and one race would just keep re-setting half way through and never let me finish it no matter how many times I tried. Save game corrupted at one point but managed to auto recover.

I'd personally recommended waiting to buy it until it's significantly discounted.

    Very unbalanced AI
Too crowded with cars at the start of races
Arcade all the way, realism absurdly low
Very few relevant challenges, short career Stupid challenges such as "collide when airborne" on tracks without jumps. The worst game in the Dirt series by miles. Weighing in the instabilities it is a 1. Stay away!

Meh. Bought this since I borrowed a racing seat, wheel and pedals. Next gen game? Really? Graphics are mediocre on PS5. Driving is easy and fun, but I got bored after driving the eight first races. It would be cheaper to insert coins in a real arcade machine..

Worst arcade racer ever. Feels like Codemasters is dead and dont want to make racing games anymore. Maybe they sold it to EA because this company has begun to sinking to the bottom.

Man, this is dull. It's unpolished, collisions often have no sound effect. Driving through deep water has no sound effect and doesn't slow or effect the car in any way. Career is terrible, nothing like the old games. I hate it when game franchises go backwards. Did no one on the dev team sit down and play their old games and try to understand what made them great? Gutted.

It's very difficult to rate this game without taking into account the game breaking issues around game crashes and save file corruptions. If you're playing this game on PS5 you will get frequent crashes after finishing a race. Every time you crash like this there's a chance your save file will get corrupted. Eventually, it will get you and your entire progress will be completely wiped out. It's very difficult to rate this game without taking into account the game breaking issues around game crashes and save file corruptions. Vibrant graphics. I thought long and hard about my score, worrying it was too harsh, but ultimately the game on PS5 IS completely unplayable as you will eventually lose all your progress and have to start from scratch. Until this is resolved the game cannot be recommended. Expand

This game is broken on PS5, it crashes every few races and from time to time it corrupts your saved game meaning you have to restart the career from zero.

A rally game with no rally? It's just racing??? Why? Where is my co-driver?

I want to give it a lower score but the racing is decent and the graphics are nice, but it feels like an arcade racer. I was hoping for something much more realistic and rally based.

Wheel support is fantastic with good handling feel over different surfaces and conditions and FFB works nicely with a T300RS Thrustmaster.

The game’s soundtrack is also epic.

The dev team are fairly local to where I live and I am so glad they are back on track with this title. I have just spent 5hrs solid and I’m addicted to it. If only DriveClub could be re-released on PS5 with 60FPS, that was the only thing stopping the title being a huge system seller for PS4 and Pro!

As a launch title for PS5, I think it has the best graphics on any title, including Miles Morales & Demon Souls ! I don’t think Dirt 5 marketing team have really promoted this as well as they should have. I was totally not expecting the title to be this good. Superb

EDIT : some slowdown has been introduced in latest patch that wasn’t there previously, so would deduct 2 points for that. 8/10 currently

Sure it's pretty, I think the frame rate is nice & it's great that there is a new Dirt game available to play on the new consoles...
Problems are the AI isnt very smart, there doesn't seem to be any replays so you can watch your races & there isn't any solo rally in the Career Mode from what I've found...
So far I had more fun with Dirt 2 & Dirt 4...

    Pros:
    + Haptic feedback
    + Playground mode
    + Cockpit view
    + Accessible and arcadey racer

    So-So:
    - Rubberband A.I?

    Cons:
    - Third person view obstructs vision a lot of times, times where cockpit views are not the best option, ethier

This game should be up there as a showpiece for the ps5 controller, would buy this game full price just for the haptic feedback.

Stupid jokes of some type of degenerate DJs or podcasters, this pink-and-yellow-green trickery, the design of the cars themselves is insane - some fictional tractors with square angular wheels, hearses with protruding lanterns and other deformities. The graphics and the sfx itself roughly correspond to the level of the Drive Club in 2014, only in DС the textures and skyboxes were not so shamefully made. It would seem that the weather and lighting were made cool, but even here it is a farce. From sandy trails in Italy, which for some reason is covered with snow, suddenly stopping and beginning showers and other snowfalls in a thunderstorm, I laughed so hard. Aesthetically and visually, the game is disgusting.

In terms of physics and race mechanics, this is a case where rally and off-road racing is better done even in NFS Heat! Total toyness, there is no feeling of contact of the car with the track - if there is dirt or snow, then it seems to clip into the texture. There is no balance, no sense of challenge or difficulty. AI degenerates unable to make any competition, mindlessly pushing and hopelessly lagging behind by half-lap at the very beginning of the race. The game modes have been simplified, but the gymkhana suffered the most. There is no feel of progression, there is no incentive to go through all 125 (!) copy-paste events of this squalor, too. All these unlockable stickers and icons can only be sticked on developers forehead, because the customization here is just as shameful as everything else. I remember Dirt 3 and my hair stood on end: how could the fall to the production of such cheap-**** games like this? This is, at best, the Onrush level (at least there was some idea in it), and at the worst, Flatout 4 (at least they tried hard).
Codemasters fald below disgrace. However, their fall was already traced in the no less disgusting Grid.

I wasn't a big fan of Dirt 4. But wow this brings me back to the days of going to an arcade and playing a racer. The sound and visuals/tracks are really fun to play. I hear there are some issues with not having fully unassisted steering, doesn't bother me. I wish there were more cars but i guess i'll have to wait for the new Gran Turismo, but in the mean time this quinces my thirst.

I saw the reviews describe this as an arcade game. Well if that means pumping a quid into an machine, driving for 3 minutes and walking away underwhelmed, then yes it is. This game is nothing more than a off-road add-on for Drive Club. The career mode feels unrewarding and unstructured. Drive Club was one of my favourite games but this just doesn't feel like it has any identity.

Quite literally unplayable while online. When you're not connected online the game works, but the very second you connect online in the PS5 network settings, the game crashes to the PS5 menu, rendering the online portions unplayable and literally IMPOSSIBLE to access. What idiots are supposed to be testing this game out? Fire all of them they're incompetent.

rarely is this a point-to-point affair, 90% of these are just "do a couple of laps on a generic off-road circuit". You can get different vehicle types, but again, most feel pretty much the same. there are exceptions, but they're rare and far between.
I've also found out that on the selection screen, you might get several class options, but the game gives you the locked options of the first class (making you think all the next cars are locked) before it gives you the unlocked ones of a second. If you're not aware of this, you can get far in the game, without ever driving some of the classes available in the game.

The AI is terrible. you win more races by mimicking their bashy-smashy attitude to get in front, and staying there because they often just stick there, rather running 4-wide than actually trying to pass.

The game also tries to get you involved into a rivalry between some veteran and some rising champion by making you a rookie that beats both of them (stop me if you've heard this one). problem is: I've never raced either of them, to my knowledge.

The game looks great, and the changing weather and day/night cycle are great, but then the races are often way too short to make those feel not awkward.

Codemasters seems to have no clue of what to do with the numbered Dirt series, with every game being something different. But this one is clearly the worst of the bunch.

A first thing I noticed is how poor the online mode is. Just random races without any goal attached. No progression system, no championships, no unlocks, no ranked play, nada. Super super basic. Even worse than in Wreckfest, where lobbies do not dissolve after each race (yes, DiRT 5 really does that).

Then I also noticed a terrible lack of modes among which the most basic one you might expect in a rally game, the actual rally mode. Nope, there is no rally in DiRT 5. The whole game is about racing other cars (something like 12 or 16, don’t remember, yet I finished the game) on 3-5 lap races or sprints. You also have some gymkhanas (way less good than in the excellent DiRT 3) and all-terrain sprints with obstacles. That’s it. There is also Playgrounds mode, but that is really of no interest to me. This all makes it so fastidious to even finish the career mode. Races are so boring and so similar. I have turned off all the assists and play in manual so I really gave it all.

All that said, I have to mention that the game looks really nice on PS5. In the end that is one of the main reasons why I bought it. I played it in Fidelity Mode, in which I noticed some fps drops (sometimes up to total lag) but other than that it plays smooth. The handling of the cars is not as good as in DiRT 3, despite the smart use of DualSense’s features. The cars handling is quite fade and rigid. That’s a real shame because games like Wreckfest can do way better, so why not DiRT 5?

In conclusion, I find myself quite disappointed with DiRT 5. I expected so much more, and better. The game feels like a way-too-long-demo lacking many modes and content in general. It is not totally bad, but clearly is a step back in comparison with its direct predecessors. I am curious to see which game will be the first real good experience on PS5.

I've heard the graphics praised as the only redeeming quality but they're not that good to be honest. driveclub did graphics so much better for example, the crew did off road better etc, all along your playing journey you'll notice things that are slightly worse than what you've seen previously.

Some other comment pointed out how the UI feels like a mobile game and I couldn't put my finger on it before but that is a spot on description! it all feels so generic and bland.

I got the game for free with ps+ this month but it feels like it should just bee a free to play game from the start because there are so many car locked behind a paywall, just imagine the horror of paying full price and discovering this, I can only imagine how it must have felt...

also, if you're somehow not sick and tired of the ever pretentious Troy baker yet, you will be after this game.

You may want to pick it up on PlayStation 5 though since it feels awesome to play with the new DualSense features.

Much buggier than the PS4 version, Dirt 5 is nonetheless a showcase for PS5 gaming, and a much-needed champion for splitscreen racing. [Issue#183, p.86]

DIRT 5 on the PS5 is the best version of the game to get on PlayStation consoles, when it works. That’s a big caveat, and most gamers will not want to have to constantly remember to pre-emptively upload their save game after a few races, or risk losing hours of progress due to one unfortunate crash. This also necessitates a PlayStation Plus subscription, since copying PS5 save games to USB storage is unfortunately not an option as of this writing. Assuming these issues get patched out, then it is easy to recommend buying this on the PS5, because DIRT 5 is a showcase racing game for the next generation of consoles with its smart use of haptic feedback and ray tracing, all while delivering a smooth performance.
