as a massive fan of the original destiny playing from alpha through to rise of iron, I was so disappointed with destiny 2 it was terrible, and my friends and myself had finally had enough with forsaken, the levelling up milestones they had added were ridiculous and we all quit before we were even ready for the last wish raid, the strikes were a shell of the originals the pvp had somehowas a massive fan of the original destiny playing from alpha through to rise of iron, I was so disappointed with destiny 2 it was terrible, and my friends and myself had finally had enough with forsaken, the levelling up milestones they had added were ridiculous and we all quit before we were even ready for the last wish raid, the strikes were a shell of the originals the pvp had somehow become even more unbalanced, and the beautiful set piece missions had become some crap go to a point on the map fight an uninspiring boss with areas being rinse and repeated in missions, and i swore never to come back....... but with beyond light and about a 2 year'ish break i was persuaded to come back with people saying its changed so much and tbh it has and some is for the better, they have added some of the old areas moon/ cosmodrome and they look really nice remastered and with it some cool old strikes like devils lair and warmind which was much needed, there are now many ways to get powerful drops (mid tier grinding levels/ light) and they even added a new vault of glass raid which is great! I like the new stasis abilities, and europa as with all their areas their level design is amazing! but the new area europa suffers from old destiny 2 problems its a big empty box with a few enemies scattered about, the cosmodrome i suddenly realised after the new 'intro' mission is then not used anymore which is a real shame, the only time i go there is to do things like gunsmith bounties, pvp... uh its somehow even worse than it was at the start of d2 i hear people say its the worst pvp they have ever played, its so ridiculously unbalanced as bungie continue to refuse to treat how weapons/ armour/ supers react/ play different to the pve part of the game, apart from the again addition of a few older maps returning, the map design is terrible, the way it plays is so bad with little to no skill needed, just the usual 2-3 specific weapons or a shotgun, and still even though most people hate pvp they continue to force people into the crucible for quest/ weapon steps, so many adjustments/ nerfs have been made over the years it is now beyond help, where the old problems start to kick in again is when you get to pinnacle drops (high tier grinding) as bungie still refuse to change the rng drop system so its still normal to sometimes play 2-3 weeks of drops and make no progress as it gives you 5 class items or like me last week all chest pieces, coming from many years of gaming and alot of years of different mmo games its the worst levelling up system ive ever come across, its universally hated but bungie just does nothing, and it gets old very quick do 3 strikes/ 3 crucible etc which is mind numbing, add to that no progress it just turns into frustration. now it being free to play for the base game they have added season passes which work quite well , you get weekly quest updates, rewards you unlock through levelling up the pass the usual sort of thing 1-100, but if like me you missed a few the older content isnt unlocked it directs you to buying the expensive edition of beyond light, I thought ok i will just buy the few im missing with silver as I want the content but nope you cant just £70 odd on some rip off edition, not unlocking older content from say 2+ seasons past i think is disgusting ive never seen a game milking content like it before considering if you started now for example yes the base games free, but you then need forsaken/ shadowkeep and beyond light + season passes..... oh and the old xpacs are still full price, with content being 'sunset' bungie say they want people to change up guns/ armour but again nothing seems that special, weapons for example where's the gjallorhorns and icebreakers the super unique weapons we all wanted now its just many uninspired/ generic weps, some of the so called 'exotic' armour perks we cry with laughter at they are so bad, with the exception of a few weps and armour exotic stuff is again a shell of what they were, where the game excels as usual is level design/ and music, both of which are top notch/ stunning! some massive much needed steps in the right direction by bungie, and i massively respect instead of moving onto d3 they have tried to fix the issues in d2, but it is still plagued by problems that should be so easy to fix, but ive heard how much money they are making so this is what we get as long as people continue to spend silly amounts on the cringey emotes etc,
5/10 : its a 3/10 game without the amazing soundtrack and level design and how good a job they done with the ps5 upgrade, far from 'good' but raids with friends keep me playing.... for now

The PS5 upgrade is amazing, but unfortunately it stops there! Lack of content, interest, really basic story and not balanced properly to the point that it has more issues than it should. If you're new to Destiny you'll enjoy it a lot more as there will be more to do, but for anyone seasoned it just doesn't hit the mark at all!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oof, this one hurt. Such a brilliant storyline, incredible lore, amazing new setting of Europa, so much potential, and a new subclass to boot... but this expansion's content was clearly adversely affected by the covid pandemic...

...and it's a massive shame because as I said before, the storyline and lore is incredible. The key revelations of Clovis Bray effectively causing The Collapse via messing with the darkness, Banshee-44 being a "reset" of Clovis Bray, the Exos as a whole being born out of darkness, etc.. These are massive, massive revelations but they didn't get the big juicy campaign to go with it, as a result, Eramis and her House of Salvation feel like tacked on fillers.

I can't help but wonder how good this would have been if they delayed it sufficiently to account for issues caused by the covid pandemic.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is a negative net sum, with so much content vaulted in favor of a meager campaign set in Europa. So much is teased and promised to bring the original Destiny vision together with Destiny 2 that we can't hope but be excited to see what Bungie is promising in seasons to come. However, what's available right now is less than the exotic content that players might've hyped themselves up for.

In the end, we are very happy with the experience, but it is less striking than that of Bastion des Ombres or Renegades.

Bungie has delivered an amazing experience with its PS5 update. From the silky-smooth frame rates to the field of view sliders, Destiny 2 has never felt this good. All the enhancements the PC community has been able to experience and take advantage of are finally on consoles. Cross-gen support along with the same content drops means that regardless of what console you play on, you're getting the best version of Destiny 2 that your system can run.
