Cronos: The New Dawn is far and away the best work Bloober Team’s put out and a splendid survival horror game in its own right. What starts as a post-pandemic Dead Space cover version becomes its own brand of scary that conditions paranoia into its players with undeniable expertise. There's a great script to go with the A-grade psychological puppeteering, and the whole package deserves to be seen as a genre classic...I am truly impressed.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a fantastic experiencethat's perfect for dark evenings.. The desperate search for something to kill enemies with keeps you on your toes, and the unpleasant atmosphere makes you feel all cold and icky inside.

If Silent Hill 2 Remake and Dead Space had a baby it would be Chronos: The New Dawn and that is a good thing. A great survival horror experience with amazing atmosphere, challenging and tense gameplay, and a story that kept me hooked throughout.

The Bloober Team's latest outing is a trip to places of the past you might not choose to visit. But duty calls, and the Travellers must answer.

Cronos: The New Dawn is an ambitious work that marks a crucial moment for Bloober Team, following the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake. The game successfully blends contemporary themes like isolation and pandemic fears with science fiction storytelling in the best possible way. The choice to base "New Dawn" on the real industrial district of Nowa Huta adds a layer of realism that elevates the entire experience. However, we must be clear: Cronos is not for everyone. The constant inventory management, the difficulty of certain sections, and the lack of a proper game map could be too frustrating for those seeking a more accessible experience. Ultimately, Cronos: The New Dawn is a mature and conscious survival horror game, with which Bloober has finally found its authorial voice.

It's challenging, and it might take a little while for you to warm to its world and protagonist, but Cronos: The New Dawn is yet another brilliant survival horror game from Bloober Team. You'll be on the edge of your seat throughout this tense and atmospheric adventure, hopping between the past and the future while blasting enemies that grow more powerful if they manage to merge.

Cronos: The New Dawn is the best new horror IP I have played in over a decade. This game not only provides a gripping narrative in an unapologetically Polish setting, but it also offers top-tier survival horror that keeps the player feeling vulnerable throughout. Combat is cumbersome in the best way, the game is visually impressive with sublime sound design, and it's a rare example of a game that gets better with each passing moment. A lack of a dedicated difficulty mode will ruffle a few feathers, the game isn't without its cheap moments, and I'll admit that I wish it were scarier across the board. But, in a genre where established games rule the roost, Bloober Team has just muscled into the conversation, as Cronos is good enough to rub shoulders with the horror greats.

Cronos The New Dawn is a pure Survival Horror that will test even the most seasoned players. It offers a full-bodied and terrifying experience, at the heart of a particularly well-crafted universe, as Bloober Team knows so well how to do, inspired here by the best horror games like Resident Evil 2 for example, but with a slower pace, perhaps too much, but that's the style. A perfect game for lovers of absolute stress, where managing situations but also your inventory and ammunition will be your biggest problem!

After the Silent Hill 2 remake, everyone was worried about whether Bloober Team had what it took to shine with a completely original property. Cronos: The New Dawn makes it clear that the Polish studio is capable of this and more. This is one of the best experiences of the year, and something that, I hope, will lead to a flagship franchise for this team. With this result, it's clear that Bloober Team is positioning itself as one of the representative faces of video game development, not only in Poland, but in Europe.

Overall, however, this is definitely a triumph for a studio that has taken some well-deserved knocks in the past, but which really shines here. Whereas Silent Hill 2 Remake was a comeback for many, it's ultimately not something Bloober has created itself. But Cronos is completely original, and there is no metaphor that adequately demonstrates how big a difference I feel there is between the two projects. Let's just say that Cronos is Bloober's masterpiece, and the proof I needed to really cheer them on going forward.

Bloober Team took what they learned from combat and survival design on Silent Hill 2, blended it with its expertise in environmental design, and told a story that sinks its hand-claws in and leaves you uncertain of your decisions at pivotal points. It’s not always ticking at a good pace, but Cronos is an intense time-hopping journey that adds frightful new flavor to the horror universe.

Cronos: The New Dawn establishes Bloober Team in the survival horror genre with a 15-hour linear campaign set in devastated cities. Inspired by Dead Space, the game blends sci-fi, horror, and strategic gunplay. Despite FPS drops and slow texture loading, it delivers an immersive experience with strong atmosphere and an engaging narrative.

The New Dawn has turned out to be a truly excellent survival horror game, with great combat, a motivating progression system, and an extremely dense atmosphere that also skillfully creates a spooky atmosphere and horror terror a la Dead Space. If you like the genre, you have to get it.

Overall, Cronos: The New Dawn feels like a proper spiritual successor to Dead Space in many ways, but the narrative and environment stand tall on their own to create a truly memorable experience in survival horror. It gives “The Thing” body horror vibes which is a bonus.

Cronos: The New Dawn, from developer Bloober Team, is representative and respectful of the traditional survival horror genre. It brings gameplay elements that any gamer should expect from a survival horror experience, while testing out minor methods to improve an old formula. At the end of the day, the game is beautifully unsettling, gorgeous to take in, and does enough to make it worth your time. Is it reinventing the genre? Not really, but it’s still quite fun.

It mightn’t be as faultless as the iconic video games it attempts to emulate, but, in attempting to do things no action-horror game has done before, Cronos: The New Dawn etches its deserved place at, at least, the honourable mentions board at the foot of the horror game Mt Rushmore. Bloober has ensured that, no matter what they try next in this genre, we will be seated. Such is our calling.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a testament to Bloober Team's maturity within the survival horror genre. The studio delivers a dark, complex, and engaging experience that consistently balances psychological horror with science fiction elements. While not accessible to everyone, mainly due to its slower pace and high resource management requirements, it stands out as one of the genre's most memorable experiences in 2025. For those who enjoy the challenge and immersion of classic survival horror, Cronos is a must-play title.

It was certainly no easy task to get the player's empathy to penetrate beneath the steely layer of the space diver's suit. It's difficult to feel sympathy even for the unfortunate Travelers who preceded us, and at times the dialogue exchanges between characters seemed less interesting than the written notes we found while exploring. Those, indeed, are full of humanity. And yet, despite all their limitations, we must give Bloober Team credit for having once again succeeded. Maybe even to have started a new franchise that, in a few years, could be among the great titles of science fiction horror.

Bloober Team has hit the mark once again, proving how the experience accumulated over years and years of horror productions is leading to titles of ever-increasing quality. Cronos: The New Dawn started out as a new IP with everything to prove, and it managed to win us over thanks to a captivating setting supported by an intense atmosphere, perfectly functioning survival horror mechanics, and excellent level design. We’re convinced that for many fans of the genre, Cronos could become a name to watch in the future, but for now, enjoy this excellent beginning.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a strong new scary entry from Bloober Team, mixing well-worn tropes of the genre with some interesting sci-fi twists and a captivating, if somewhat confusing, narrative tying it all together. Balancing a restricted inventory while tackling waves of disgusting creatures makes for an intense time, and exploring the infected district in Poland is a memorable setting. Cronos: The New Dawn is confident in delivering what it set out to do; it’s a new survival horror IP that has legs – and lots of other limbs – carrying it to spooky success.

Cronos: The New Dawn isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a beautiful, brutal survival horror game that doesn’t always land narratively but really sticks to its guns and lands where it matters most. It’s bleak, it’s relentless, and it really sticks with you.

Cronos The New Dawn is a solid and compelling game from almost every perspective, from its narrative to its robust gameplay formula, and the captivating, desperate imagery that permeates every pixel. Aside from a few minor technical and content flaws, what you'll have in your hands is a project that exudes the passion of its creators. The gameplay structure, while appearing fairly conservative on paper, conceals a remarkable depth that will surely delight fans of the genre. It's not a game that reinvents the wheel, let's be clear, but it's still one of the best survival horror games currently available. And that's a result that speaks volumes about the now indisputable talent of the Krakow-based team.

Cronos: The New Dawn shows Bloober Team stepping out of the shadow of Silent Hill and proving they can deliver original horror of the highest order. With its oppressive atmosphere, inventive mechanics, and grotesque enemy design, it’s a fresh yet familiar survival-horror experience. Some technical hiccups and a lack of difficulty options hold it back from true greatness, but make no mistake: this is one of the strongest new entries in the genre in years.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a remnant of the legacy of survival horror. It takes whispers from two titans of the genre and blends them with its own ideas. Cronos: The New Dawn is a great survival horror game, a fine tribute to the genre, and a new direction that suits Blooper Team perfectly. However, by playing it safe, it loses some of its originality, and some strange decisions have been made that slow down the pace.

With Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team has crafted a brilliant survival horror title, with a unique premise, an intriguing story, and a truly captivating setting. The Orphans are a challenging enemy that not only keeps you on the edge of your seat but also forces you to carefully manage every bullet. The varied way you explore the world also deserves praise. It's clear the studio wanted to push the creative envelope. Unfortunately, the technical side of things is far from perfect, with graphics that aren't always convincing and a frame rate that occasionally dips. Don't let that deter you, though. Cronos: The New Dawn is more than worth your hard-earned money and precious time.

Cronos is a strong reminder of how important the survival element of the genre can be, and how so many games have seemingly lost that half. I absolutely adore the decrepit little world that Bloober has built here, and just wish the game could have stuck the landing better in support of it. Cronos comes within a razor’s edge of being a new horror classic, but even with its missteps, its world and panic-inducing combat is something well worth experiencing. A snafu in the review process meant I had access to the wrong build of the game for a while, but it’s proof of how much I enjoyed Cronos that I was willing to play through it another whole time in the review process...More than anything, it feels like post-Silent Hill 2 Bloober Team has really found its footing. Cronos is absolutely a step in the right direction, and I can’t wait to see what the studio does next to keep on building from here.

Classic survival horror fans will thoroughly enjoy the gameplay and design of Cronos: The New Dawn. The extremely grounded and heavy feel to movement and aiming mixed with puzzle solving and ammo/resource conservation is masterfully executed. The world and the atmosphere mix dreariness with vibrancy and the game offers unique dynamics for puzzle solving that haven't been seen in other titles. It plays like a Souls-like and involves a lot of trial and error, but you continue to want to push on. The console experience is solid enough with performance, but if the option for PC is available for you, this would be preferable. In terms of replayability, the story is solid and its portrayal is great, but you'll mainly be playing through at a faster pace on a playthrough. It's definitely more than sixteen hours in its first playthrough. Cronos: The New Dawn offers a fascinating story, but the classic survival horror elements blended with new ideas make it essential for fans of the genre.

A challenging survival horror game that impresses above all with its consistently dark, slowly unfolding atmosphere set in post-apocalyptic Krakow. The difficulty level and consistent gloom are a treat for fans of the genre, but a test of endurance for everyone else.
  42. 80
Cronos: The New Dawn is a confident, if somewhat slightly derivative effort which is the measure of a developer not looking to rest on its laurels or coast on recent successes. Kept in line by solid fundamentals and a story that hits the right notes, this is an easy recommendation for fans of similar games where the hospitality of the locals isn't as warm or as welcoming as you had once hoped.

We don’t get enough science fiction survival horror games, so when one comes along it’s a real treat. Cronos: The New Dawn merges effective brutal combat and excellent charging gunplay, with a design, atmosphere and aesthetic that is next level memorable. If you felt the void after Dead Space, this will fill it. And then Merge with it, and make something new and spiky and horrible.

Cronos: The New Dawn is no walk in the park, and it will not hold your hand, and that’s exactly how survival horror games should be. This is the best original IP from Bloober Team to date, and if this is a sign of things to come, aside from the upcoming Silent Hill remake, I can’t wait to see what new terrifying delights the studio has in store for us next. Despite some occasional stuttering framerates, this is Bloober Team’s best original work yet, and Cronos: The New Dawn may go down as the best horror game this year.
  45. Sep 3, 2025
    80
Cronos: The New Dawn works very well as a survival horror if we take those two words literally, but a weak storyline and a completely uncharismatic main character take away some of the game’s shine. In the end, it feels more like a sequence of well-crafted tension scenes with almost nothing in between that truly deserves attention.
  46. Sep 3, 2025
    80
Cronos: The New Dawn feels like an average game coming on the heels of the amazing Silent Hill 2 remake. The reasonably fun gunplay is dragged down by a lackluster story and occasional moments of annoyance. It has a lot of cool ideas, but none of them quite hit the mark in the way I hoped. It's still a perfectly fun little survival horror romp but doesn't quite go anywhere above that. It's absolutely worth a shot if you're looking for something to fill the Dead Space-shaped hole in your heart, but it could've used a little extra punch.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a brilliant addition to the survival horror genre. In a lot of ways it's derivative, especially when it comes to how it plays and how it feels. However, Bloober has injected enough charm, curiosities, and weirdness into it to make it not only its own thing, but something almost endearing. With impeccable visuals, an entrancing score, and a captivatingly dark time-travelling mystery, Cronos: The New Dawn is a delectable piece of sci-fi horror.

Even though Cronos: The New Dawn has some flaws, like inconsistent enemy reactions, hit registration issues, and minor bugs, its challenging difficulty is central to its identity. The game's tough, isolating experience is designed to keep players on edge. While some players might find this frustrating, it's what prevents the game from being too easy and losing its core tension. Ultimately, the game is a must-play for fans of the horror genre and a homage to classics like Silent Hill 2 and Observer, offering a memorable experience for those who appreciate that style of game.

To complete the story of Cronos: The New Dawn, you need to play for around 20 hours, which is actually enough. Admittedly, there is sometimes a slight feeling of redundancy, particularly with regard to the monsters and bosses, where I really felt like I was fighting one battle after another at one point, but this is quickly forgotten thanks to the environment, gameplay, and story. What's more, if you like a challenge, you'll be in for a treat: I don't think I've been so frustrated with a game in a long time, especially when it comes to the bosses... But what a feeling when you succeed!

Cronos: The New Dawn will deliver a pretty horrific experience to fans of the genre utilizing various elements such as an intricate upgrade system which makes your play through better with every step of the way. However, there are a few shortcomings in the game design that prevents it from becoming one of the best in its gameplay class.
  52. Sep 29, 2025
    79
Cronos: The New Dawn doesn't try to impress you with intense skirmishes or spectacular set-pieces; instead, it offers a slow, oppressive, and deeply atmospheric experience. If you appreciate survival horror in its most pure form—with a lack of resources, constant tension, and a story that leaves room for interpretation—then this game undoubtedly deserves your attention.

If you’re in the mood for something that recalls games like Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space, Cronos might hit the spot. But it’s not without its pain points.
  54. Sep 18, 2025
    75
Cronos The New Dawn is Bloober Team’s most ambitious project, heavily inspired by survival horror classics. Its post-apocalyptic Polish setting, retro-futuristic art style, and oppressive atmosphere are impressive highlights, showing the studio’s talent for building immersive, unsettling worlds. Yet the game struggles with rigid, outdated gameplay, clunky combat, and puzzles that feel too simplistic. Its reliance on Dead Space, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill leaves little room for true innovation, preventing it from becoming a genre-defining title. While not the breakthrough it aims to be, Cronos marks an important step for Bloober Team. It’s a respectful homage that will please fans of old-school survival horror, but may leave others hoping for something bolder.
  55. Sep 15, 2025
    75
Cronos: The New Dawn is easily Bloober Team’s best original work, delivering a challenging sci-fi survival horror experience with brutal combat in an immersive and tense setting. It’s just a shame that it doesn’t quite nail the resource management that would elevate it to greatness.

    75
Cronos: The New Dawn isn't the masterpiece it was hoped for, but it's a crucial milestone in Bloober Team's evolution. At times frenzied, often distressing, it embodies the sincere desire of a studio determined to overcome its mistakes and forge a true identity, even if its homages remain too obvious. A demanding, slow, and heavy survival horror, it doesn't seek to seduce but to oppress. An experience that is especially striking for its mastery of the codes of a genre that its creators now know like the back of their hand.

Cronos: The New Dawn has great horror elements. It has a strong story about the dangers of a pandemic. The world is visually gorgeous and interesting to explore. The problem with the game is its gameplay often gets in the way of its horror. The player aims, shoots, slowly lumbers around, searches for keys, and reads notes. It’s survival horror 101. Very basic gameplay. Cronos: The New Dawn works great as a visual horror feast. It plays mechanically solid, but can get also get so frustrating that it breaks its horror experience. All in all, Cronos: The New Dawn’s strengths, but it above the average survival horror game. Any fans of the genre looking for more should definitely give it a try. The game matches the quality of Bloober Team’s pre-Silent Hill 2 efforts, but, unfortunately, they’re still going to be looking to create a masterpiece amongst their original IPs.
  58. Sep 3, 2025
    75
With Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober takes a step forward compared to its earlier original games like The Medium and Layers of Fear. However, what lingers most after the beautiful story is the thought that they need a blueprint—like Silent Hill 2—in order to truly shine in the survival horror genre. As a result, Cronos ends up being nothing more than a decent horror shooter with a very interesting combat hook. Unfortunately, the execution falls just short, which means the real tension doesn’t arrive until the very final part of the game.
  59. Sep 22, 2025

Just like its main protagonist, Cronos: The New Dawn is so obsessed with capturing and replicating the past, that it's kinda forgets to do something more important - to have a soul of its own.

    70
Cronos is Bloober Team’s first original survival horror IP, and as a new effort, it’s commendable. While it doesn’t push the genre forward, the gameplay keeps the tension high until the very end, showing that the developers know what makes survival horror tick. If only the story weren’t so disjointed and shallow.
  61. Sep 10, 2025
    70
Cronos: The New Dawn gets off to a slow start, with ammunition that is (too) scarce and melee attacks that are clunky and difficult to aim. After a few upgrades, you suddenly go from being a weakling to an elite soldier, after which there is little challenge left. Too difficult at the beginning, too easy after playing for a while. The balance is clearly off, and there are no options to adjust the difficulty level. And once you start noticing that they really do pull out all the tricks of the horror genre—a shadow flashing in the corner of your eye, a flashlight that suddenly starts to falter when things get exciting, an enemy that appears out of nowhere after you pick up an object—the fun quickly wears off. Unfortunately, the intriguing premise and atmospheric setting don't make up for these frustrating moments.
  62. Sep 4, 2025
    70
Without being scary, with mediocre storytelling and gameplay, an uninteresting protagonist, and cats as the main highlight, Cronos: The New Dawn is a basic and unremarkable survival horror game, but one that will entertain fans of the genre — and that's enough. Unfortunately, Bloober Team has not repeated the quality level of Silent Hill 2 Remake and returns to the level of forgettable games.
  63. Sep 3, 2025
    70
Blooper Team’s most ambitious original IP certainly lives up to that moniker in terms of mood and capturing that Soviet era feel, with an oppressive and challenging atmosphere, but unfortunately challenging and frustrating got conflated.
  64. Sep 3, 2025
    70
I don’t dislike Cronos: The New Dawn, but the minor frustrations coupled with the overall tedium wear on you. It’s a polished game that works well, but shooting zombie mutants gets old, and raiding boxes for batteries isn’t that exciting in the first place. A decently atmospheric horror for the Halloween season, but not quite the new era of Bloober Team that I was hoping for.
  65. Sep 3, 2025
    70
Cronos: The New Dawn is easily the most confident original game that Bloober Team has ever produced, but this unfettered ambition also brings with it teething issues that are awfully difficult to overlook. Combat is punchy yet clunky, exploration is atmospheric but predictable, while the central narrative is often held back by lacklustre performances and clumsy writing. There is a great survival horror game at the centre of Cronos, but it would have been much stronger if it had broken new ground rather than wondering tentatively on what came before.
  66. Sep 3, 2025
    70
Cronos: The New Dawn presents an intriguing mystery to unravel and a creepy sci-fi hellscape to explore, but its run-of-the-mill combat system prevents it from stepping out of the shadows cast by survival-horror heavyweights like Dead Space and Resident Evil 4. Its oppressively bleak environments are rich with interesting details to pore over, and a handful of its boss fights provoke a level of desperation that make them genuinely thrilling to survive, but elsewhere there’s clear padding that trips up the story’s momentum for considerable stretches at a time, and its predictable shock tactics are a step down from Silent Hill 2’s genuine scares. Like a Traveler’s corpse that’s trapped inside a temporal apocalypse, Cronos: The New Dawn contains the essence of survival horror, but there’s not quite enough spark in it to really bring it to life.
  67. Sep 3, 2025
    70
A merging of ideas offers little room for Cronos' identity to manifest and grow which is fitting for this survival horror. Cronos: The New Dawn is immersive for its atmosphere and mysterious narrative paired with excellent level and sound design that takes ahold of your curiosity and fuels your drive to press forward for humanity's sake. Has the makings of a true survival horror, but sadly doesn't offer much of a challenge. This title loses itself when answering its biggest questions and raises more by the time the credits roll because of its lacklustre conclusion.

Cronos: The New Dawn is an unabashed mash-up of survival horror's greatest hits, from Dead Space to Silent Hill, and its references make it a thrillingly familiar experience for fans of the horror genre. The only problem – which is, at times, significant – is a frustrating inventory system that can make combat feel more irritating than tense. Still, this is an atmospheric and uniquely introspective adventure for those who value a game's story as much as its action.

A brutal and unique atmosphere that is diluted by repetitive combat and an irregular pace.

Cronos: The New Dawn is an ambitious step by Bloober Team, combining horror, action, and survival in a devastated world. Mechanics such as enemy fusion and time manipulation are interesting, but technical flaws, repetitive combat, and an unsatisfactory ending limit its impact.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a game with a ton of potential, with an amazing atmosphere and interesting story, but the horror is undermined by poor balance, broken combat and technical issues.

All that being said, Bloober Team has clearly showcased its capabilities through the successful remake of Silent Hill 2. So, while Cronos: The New Dawn may not be the groundbreaking sci-fi horror that it or players were hoping for, there’s no denying that Bloober’s attempts to create something unique should still be celebrated, and personally, I’m still excited to see what comes next.

Cronos: The New Dawn does some great things, but going into it expecting the same level of polish and quality as the Silent Hill 2 remake is a mistake. Despite a rather unique story concept and a few clever ideas, Cronos: The New Dawn is a fairly run-of-the-mill survival-horror game with a few key flaws that hold it back from being as good as its inspirations or Bloober Team's own Silent Hill 2 remake.

Cronos: The New Dawn fails to deliver a well-rounded survival horror experience due to combat that doesn't measure up to the rest of the game. On the other hand, it also gives us a wonderful science fiction story that is fascinating both narratively and visually.

Much like the game’s creatures that assemble from the bits and bobs of the deceased on their path, Cronos: The New Dawn also amalgamates the prime cuts of Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, The Last of Us, Alan Wake, and more survival horror classics. At least the result isn't a hulking monstrosity that I want to kill with fire. However, despite traces of genuinely inventive ideas, it's a flawed patchwork that just about gets away with competently imitating all of its absorbed parts.

After the career high of Silent Hill 2, Bloober Team return to their usual routine, with a Frankenstein’s monster of other people’s ideas – all of which are expressed better elsewhere.

Cronos’ sweeping narrative issues speak to how thoroughly troubled the entire game is. Like the humanoid blobs that coat many of its buildings and streets, Cronos is an amalgamation of ideas that combine to form a messy whole. Its clumsily balanced combat is aggravating and regularly disempowers players, and its inane attempts at providing scares are woefully ineffective. And when underpinned by a badly paced narrative with questionable themes, Cronos: The New Dawn is anything but a new dawn for Bloober and is instead a remix of its same old deficiencies.

Cronos: The New Dawn is filled to the brim with potential, that ultimately falls short in how it executes all of its concepts. While there is a great story foundation and some interesting mechanics, the lackluster conclusion to the narrative, combined with irritating combat, frequent glitches, poor pacing of traversal, and repetitive gameplay scenarios make for a product that fails to capture the quality of other entries in the genre.

Hours after finishing the game, I struggled to fall asleep. But it wasn't the nightmare-inducing Orphans that were keeping me awake at night. It was the ramifications of the game's final choice. I still can't decide which of the two endings I unlocked was the "better" choice. One choice left me feeling like it probably wasn't the "ideal" ending. In the other, I felt I had made the best choice for my Traveler, but a post-credits cutscene left me wondering if I had done so at the expense of humanity itself.

All in all, Cronos: The New Dawn was tense, gritty, and challenging. While some portions of the game were trickier than others, thanks to the scarce amount of bullets, the game was enjoyable and provided some tense moments. The story was interesting, although the storytelling method of dotting lore around the world may not gel well with some players.
