Besides some dated boss battles, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remaster shows that the original game is still leagues above some of the best that Sonic and Mario have to offer. Many will disagree, but that is just conditioned bias. Croc is a nostalgic blast of absolutely epic proportions.

The remake of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is a lovingly crafted example of how decades-old titles should be brought into the modern era. It effectively smooths out the rough edges of the original game and offers a fun and faithful experience, complete with a substantial amount of bonus material for those interested in its development history.

With oodles of secrets, adorable visuals, and tons of extra museum content, this release of Croc Legend of the Gobbos is the bee's knees.

Croc’s levels feel dated amongst it’s contemporaries today but that doesn’t stop it from being a cheerful journey from the adventure’s beginning to it’s triumphant conclusion.

Despite the kinks and knitpicks, Legend of the Gobbos will endear players with its accommodating easiness, making it a lovely, gentle and ideal welcoming to retro gaming for children, while giving adult retro lovers a pleasing blast from the past to indulge in. It's not perfect obviously and it lacks the inspiration and magic of its contemporaries, but all the same it was a good game for its time that deserves to be experienced. The remastering effort on display here is lovely and should certainly entertain and please gamers young and old. A legendary platformer it may not be, but Legend of the Gobbos is certainly a worthwhile adventure that's returned with a solid remastering effort.

Croc – Legend of the Gobbos Remastered from developer Argonaut Games is a throwback to a simpler, more experimental 3D platformer time. The remastered game represents the old one nicely without going too far or destroying any of the original game’s essence. While some of the 90s gameplay concepts in Croc – Legend of the Gobbos Remastered are still stuck in the 90s, some elements are improved. This may not hit with new gamers but it’s undoubtedly going to please those raised during that 90s video game era.

Croc is a throwback to a formative time where developers were sinking their teeth into 3D development and when met on its own terms offers more than enough charm and character to put a smile on most faces. Though you can only sand the rough edges so much, this is the best way to play one of gaming's forgotten mascots and indeed is a compelling package for those dyed-in-the-wool fans who have been clamoring for a return of the green reptile for all these years.

All in all, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remastered remains the same beloved platformer - it won’t redefine the genre, but it’s a delightful retro return for longtime fans and a charming piece of gaming history for newcomers.

Returning to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos after so many years is a joy. The music and setting are as vibrant and fun to engage with as ever, and the characters that inhabit the islands are just as cute. This remaster is the definitive way to play Croc's first adventure and a worthy contender for best PS5 platformer. Nostalgia plays a hand in this enjoyment, however, so if a platformer with old mechanics sounds like a hard sell, give it a pass.

The Croc remaster is nothing short of an ode to the golden era of 3D platformers. With its focus on nostalgia and revamped visuals, it’s sure to evoke warm memories for longtime fans. That said, a bit of patience is required to navigate some of the old-school quirks in its platforming design.

If you love Croc, and love the idea of playing a polished version of the original game in 2025, that last part doesn’t really matter. All that matters is the remaster is faithful to the original and improves upon it. If you want to play the best version of Croc you’re ever going to play, this remaster is exactly what you’re looking for. If you never played the original and you’re on the hunt for a new platformer, you should absolutely take Croc for a spin.

While the game itself inevitably shows its age with its simplistic design, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remains an adorable and fun platformer in this remaster. The revamped visuals pop while staying true to its old school look, and the analog control provides a much smoother way to play. The Crocipedia fleshes things out, providing lots of detail about the making of this pioneering 3D title.

A remaster done right, with loads of extra materials to check out, on top of a more polished version of the original game.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos 2025 is a genuinely good remaster of a video game that's nowhere near as good as you remember it being. Still, the nostalgia hits are all there in the right places and if you need a break from the real world, you could do much worse.

Croc Legend of the Gobbos is a fun little platformer that was great during the PS1 era, but doesn't hold up to platformers to this day like Astro Bot. The levels vary and keep surprising you with their mechanics, but the environments themselves are basic and feel repetitive. There's also a steep difficulty curve in the middle of the game that hits you like a freight train and causes you to retry the levels over and over again. The lack of save states and a rewind feature would have resolved some of the quirks. Argonaut Games has done an admirable job of updating the graphics with remastered models and improved textures (for the most part), and it's a great to have the option to switch to the retro look if so desired. Despite annoying levels here and there, Croc Legend of the Gobbos is a 3D platformer worth revisiting.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos needed much more than the veneer it’s received. It was dated out of the gate and aged like milk thereafter. With visual upgrades that inadvertently make it look worse, and no improvements to the clumsy gameplay beyond fixing its abysmal controls, this is the definition of an unnecessary product...Some retro games require a little work to bring them up to standard, and Croc required far more than that. Without the extra effort, we’re left with a reminder that, honestly, Legend of the Gobbos just wasn’t a good game.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster is a good look at how 3D platformers were put together in the 90s, but the gameplay falls seriously short of modern standards. There is just so much that could be better when it comes to the gamplay that would have made the experience more tolerable and enjoyable, but what we have is a bang average 3D platformer.
