May 8, 2026Crimson Desert is an ambitious open-world epic that succeeds through its dense, rewarding exploration and weighted combat, even while stumbling over a generic story and a flat protagonist. While unintuitive controls and momentum-killing puzzles can cause occasional frustration, the sheer scale of Pywel and its deep progression systems offer a level of discovery unlike anything seen before it. Ultimately, the game’s narrative shortcomings are overshadowed by its immendepth and breathtaking world, making it a flawed but deeply memorable adventure.

May 5, 2026Crimson Desert is almost impossible not to recommend in its past, present, or future state for anyone who has a fondness for open-world games. There are numerous ways myself or others could add or subtract to make it the most ideal personal RPG. But because Pearl Abyss has provided us with so many tools already, it’s hard not to appreciate and soak up the boundless freedom provided here. I’m absolutely curious what it will look like in the fall after months of tinkering have settled in. Maybe co-op will get added, maybe it will just be more pets. Either way, it’s hard to deny the resounding success Crimson Desert is right now.

May 4, 2026I wouldn’t be surprised that, when the dust settles, Crimson Desert’s evolution is looked upon in similar ways that No Man’s Sky and Final Fantasy XIV are. There is a lot to love, and a lot to still be let down by in the lands of Hernand and beyond, but it’s still a game that lets me ride a dragon and jump in a mech suit, so that is reason enough to keep it installed on my PC and console! Who knows what other goodies lie hidden still in the desert sands that I will be digging up for months, if not years to come?
