Great game with reused maps from Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Black Ops 4, Infinite Warfare, and even Advanced Warfare. It's especially great on PS5 with the triggers pressure sensitive feature. First of all, game is running smooth as hell on PS5 and graphics are looking really good with ray tracing. Gameplay is what I was looking for, good arcade, fast paced. This is what I wanted for BO. Way better than BO4. If you liked BO 1-2 just take it. For next-gen console player it’s a most too.

Very good game. in my opinion, the campaign is very good and well structured, the graphics are good, the side missions are very good and entertaining to resolve.
The only bad thing for me is that the campaign is kind of short, there could have been more missions, but other than that the game is great.
I'm not interested in multiplayer or zombies, so I can't say anything about them.

I'd like that there are more CoDs like this one, with side missions and with the ability to customize the abilities of your character.

Unlike Modern Warfare, this game is NOT for camping scrubs. You won't be able to hide in windows or high platform vantage points everywhere for free kills and that's why it's getting such low scores. This is what Call of Duty USED to be 10 years ago, and it's finally back

The best COD game we've had after a long time! More fast-paced, better ranking system, zombies is hyping, and the Elims/death ratio is a helluva lot better than the K/D ratio of Modern Warfare. No more sweating to try to kill someone only to get the assist at the end. Also, can't wait for Battle Pass and League Play coming soon!! Game is so LIT

Don't listen to to the complaints. I am a long term fan of the series and love this game! I was super hesitant about buying it, I almost returned it before I even opened it. Thank God I didn't. I have sank 20+ hours in in a week, lol. I hope Treyarch doesn't change a thing (besides QoL changes and server stability). I sat the last 2 COD's out because I was getting sick of the same old. Zombie is similar to traditional zombies gameplay but with many new features and improvements. Some consider it easier than previous entries, (because it is) but it is a very good time whether you are playing casually or going for an Easter egg. Going above and beyond where my expectations were with the series. My last most recent favourite campaign was Advanced Warfare which felt like an amazing Neill Blomkamp flick. In terms of the games heart, design and feel this game scrapes in at a 9. You may think that's high but in my opinion it surpasses a lot of games in many aspects even if it is just another shooter to some. At the very least it's going to be a solid 8 out of 10 game overall for most people. I felt engrossed from start to finish and just the campaign alone was worth the entry price to me. I played a lot of the MP during pre-release so I know I'll have a blast there too. My review mostly reflects on the campaign. Multiplayer features are a bonus to me in terms of games featureset and not entirely the main course. For anyone who is wondering, this isn't a crappy port of a PS4 title. It feels substantially next gen in most respects. Sure there may be some bugs but those can be fixed. Plenty of replay value here too. Just don't take it too seriously, treat it like an action movie experience and you should have had plenty of laughs and smiles with this one. I'd like to finish by thanking the team that made this for a terrific time and the excellent work they have created! Expand

This is my first Call Of Duty game I’ve spent lots time playing and I need to say: I am not disappointed. I played a couple matches on Modern Warfare but I was always left feeling really disappointed, mainly with the bland maps and layouts. With Cold War, I find myself enjoying the maps thoroughly, with even the worst maps still being enjoyable. Maps such as The Pines and the updated Miami (Miami Strike) are welcome additions. Killing someone in one area of The Pines then running through the hallways to shoot another is exciting. Miami Strike is an improved Miami, in a smaller space that enables fighting. I have to say that the map that didn’t land for me at all was Satellite, and even then I still find enjoyment while playing on it. We see the return of incredible maps as well such as Nuketown (in the form of Nuketown ‘84) which makes me more interested in playing previous instalments. There are many incredible game modes to play on these maps as well, including a personal favourite: Search And Destroy. Every game feels new and exciting, while allowing me to consistently improve. The main reason I didn’t give this game a 10/10 however, is the fact that the game often freezes and lags, even when my internet connection is perfect. It does often get in the way of fully enjoying the game to it’s potential. This game was an excellent introduction into the world of Call Of Duty for me, making me excited for future games in the franchise.

    Pro's:
Campaign Time: I don't have time to play hours and hours of games. This campaign is short and ideal to play over the weekend as you can complete it in around 5-6 hours.

Level Design: The level design is a big plus for this game. The levels in Vietnam, Berlin for example are rich in detail and well crafted. The level in Vietnam was the highlight of the campaign.

Music: This is a big plus to the campaign. I loved the music and I can definitely see a lot of effort that went into creating it.

Story: Story was immersive though it's not the biggest reason why someone would pickup this game.

PS5: The adaptive triggers and the haptic feedbacks elevate the gameplay experience.

Texture quality: Probably, one of the overlooked aspect of this game is the texture quality. Apart from Demon's souls, I haven't seen a single game which had high texture quality like COD. I would rate Demon's souls and COD on the top over other games for how good the texture quality is. The details on the ground, on the leaves don't feel like a cheap gimmick but rather filled with details.

    Note:
I have not played many COD games so I am not able to compare it with the other games. Irrespective of how other COD games were, the story, the level design, music, gameplay is pretty good and I think the campaign deserves a good rating.

Another Note: I had my set of problems with the game's ridiculous ways of downloading the campaign. I had to search in Youtube because it wasn't obvious. Moreover, 200 gb is crazy. However, I am rating the game solely based on the campaign and the gameplay for the campaign and I think they executed the campaign well.

Also, it's not worth 70$. Buy it on a sale if you are planning to play it for campaign solely. 9 because it is expensive and the campaign download was just plain stupid.

What started with a very disappointing Beta ended up in being a very good and thorough Call of Duty game.

We have 4 modes that are all very relevant and fun to play. Let me detail.

First, there is the Campaign, and I was very much surprised to see the devs actually worked on a simple yet cool good old Cold War story involving CIA (obviously). Missions take place in various beautiful environments and I thus was surprised with the final quality. Sure, the story is cliché. But that’s good enough to put you in a CW mood. It is clearly not revolutionizing the genre, but CW is good at doing what we already know fitted in a new –relatively cool – story.

Then, you have Multiplayer, and in extension, Ranked Play. Overall, the multiplayer mode of BOCW is solid and relatively balanced (if you don’t take into account the post-release added guns). The maps, despite many being recycled, are not too bad either. I was of course delighted to see that a Ranked Mode was added. A shame it is that the actual ranking system is uninteresting. It works on a division-based system that refreshes every few days. Because of that, you don’t really have anything to grind, as opposed to what we have already seen in games such as Call of Duty World War 2, whose Ranked system was way more attractive to the player.

As for the Zombies mode, it is simply put very detailed and plays extremely well. I am delighted to see some maps were added freely into the game with post-release updates, and the Onslaught mode – in which the player gets to fulfill objectives on large open maps –also allows for long and intense games that even require their fair share of teamwork.

All of above is of course positive thanks to the core gameplay of Black Ops Cold War that I find to be very enjoyable. Weapons handling works great and feels realistic enough. The sounds, despite not being on par with the excellent Modern Warfare, are nice enough to make you really enjoy hearing weapons firing, and more generally speaking using them. This all sounds silly, but it is not the case for every FPS (or even Call of Duty). I like to handle my gun in this game, and it is for example not the case in Call of Duty Vanguard (both Alpha and Beta).

In conclusion, I am very happy to have waited to buy my PS5 to then buy this game. It makes a really nice FPS introduction to the PS5 with its 120fps 4K, and actually delivers quite great at everything, without revolutionizing anything either. I recommend this game and hope that the next Call of Duty Vanguard can at least be 80% as good.

Idk about the others but I have a k/d of 1.30 and my lobbys are pretty ok. I can have fun and troll with my knife... Or sweat the hell out of me and the result is: Im having a good experience. Multiplayer is very slow, uninteresting maps besides Nuketown '84, Raid, and Hijacked. Multiplayer feels like a step back from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019. In terms of season content, the latest season is starting to make this game become what it should've been from the start, but something that bothers me so much was the Cold War integration with Warzone and Modern Warfare 2019, it was very unnecessary. Cold War pretty much ruined Modern Warfare and Warzone. Warzone was fun before Cold War even released.

Zombies is obviously the same sort of deal: Grab weapons, kill zombies, complete Easter eggs and survive for as long as you can, however, I actually really enjoy playing Cold War Zombies. I personally enjoy playing the new mode named Outbreak, however, the other zombie modes are good to an extent, but it gets very repetitive, obviously.

I'm not even gonna touch League Play.

Overall, this is a solid title as of 18/06/2021, however, when it launched, it was very stale. Cold War is fun for a certain amount of time, but I find myself going back to Modern Warfare 2019 and even older titles and play for hours and hours. The only fun thing about Cold War is the campaign and Zombies in my personal opinion.

I personally come from the original Black Ops and COD4 growing up. Those games were fast, on your feet, fun shooters. This game feels like a mashup of the original Black Ops and Modern Warfare, and honestly it works. With some balancing issues here and there (that ARE being patched) multiplayer makes for a very fun, however very death-prone rushing in headfirst, with insane time to kill so you cant wipe 2 guys quickly. Hardcore (which I almost always play in a COD game) is impossible to play however, with maps being much too big, much too open and simply unfeasible for this game. Zombies is amazing, the map is not the most inspired but the core gameplay loop has been revamped significantly from BO3 and BO4, making this game heavily entertaining and different each match of zombies. Campaign has a good twist to it and a trippy 2nd to last mission, but the preached "multiple endings" is only realistically 2, with just a monologue placed over your other previous decisions. Overall, this game is a step up from MW in terms of gameplay speed and entertainment, but a step down on the balancing, shadow work, and more. The graphics should be noted however. I am playing at max settings on PC and the game is significantly brighter, sharper, and better looking than MW hands down. Can not speak for console players however. Expand

I really enjoyed the campaign on this one as I do most of the black ops games, but yes it is indeed short. I'm not into zombies and haven't played much of it at all. I will explore it a little more in the future. Multiplayer was a little bare bones at launch but now that season 1 is in full swing and more content has been released its been fun playing and unlocking levels of the battle pass.

Warzone interaction is a little spotty, but I expect it to be ironed out in the future. Adaptive triggers on ps5 is neat, but I disabled after a few multiplayer rounds as it hurts my fingers after a while.

I enjoyed my time so far with BO: Cold War, and yes it is more of the same cod formula but I knew that going in and I am pleased.

Some things i feel lacking though are the animations and sound effects. It just does not live up to the standard that MW set in that regard. Zombies is also so **** good, so if you're a fan of zombies, i would strongly reccomend this game, as it brings a **** ton of replay ability to the mode with upgradable perks and equipment. It features new armor systems, and uncapped perks for the first time. I've sunk around 50 hours into so far. But if you just want to play zombies, i would recommend waiting for a sale. Also keep in mind for right now, Die Maschine is the only map on launch. Overall i would give the game 8/10. Personally, i would feel inclined to give it a 9/10, but so many people have seemed to face issues like console bricking, which i can't really give an opinion on as ive only played on PC. Expand

The campaign is fantastic, cinematic, and simply thrilling. Old, iconic characters and several new ones make things perfect. The multiplayer should've been better. SBMM ruined it for me, but it was still pretty fun on some really cool maps: Crossroads Strike, Garrison, Apocalypse, Moscow, and the remakes of the old iconic BO maps.

Zombies started really well with Die Maschine, Firebase Z, Outbreak, Mauer der Toten, and Forsaken.
The ending of Forsaken is one of the best-executed cutscenes ever made.

This is where the game shines graphically but it still doesn't look as good as MW (which could be because this game was rushed out the door to hit launch). Zombies is my second favorite mode and it's really great and fun to play with friends. It's complex but not to complex and the future (new maps, modes, etc) will make this mode even better. Multiplayer is the biggest issue with this game. It doesn't feel good to play and isn't fun to play. I believe there are many reasons for this but the biggest is due to not implementing what MW did. Instead, they almost ignore all the good MW did and revert back to what COD was a couple years ago. I was hoping this series would continue to evolve but it looks like Treyarch is stuck in the past. Overall this game is a 7/10. It's not great but it's not bad. I wouldn't rush out to buy this game, especially because you can play Warzone which is a much better COD experience . Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fun like the rest. Gameplay feels a bit on the simpler side compared to the last installment. This is either a positive or negative depending on the players preference.

There's only 8 maps, a few of them I hate or feel like they were previously stolen or heavily influenced from another COD title. Guns are fine overall. There were balancing issues with the Mp5 but it was recently nerf.

Perks are a pretty bland. I think this was a developer's choice to slow down the game play.
    Killstreaks are over done either.
There's a new mode "Fireteam - Dirty Bomb" and perhaps I don't have the write to say this, but I only played it one time, and it's basically TDM with Warzone mechanics. It felt like a mess. Fights are intense and long but after so many minutes, people were just parachuting in the same building over and over. It needs a lot of work, but maybe it can get there. Ground War has 3 maps. One of them is a ship that either hated or love and you can just report there being only 2.

A strong pro that isn't talked about. I've watch videos about how the attachments work and users are claiming the extra stats found on the weapon detail accurate. This makes for a more enjoyable experience when building your kit. It's still fun to mix and match. My domination build often entails a double smoke/double semtex to help hold points.

This game doesn't either too significant, just another COD title.

Cold War is probably th wmost lack luster call of duty game ive ever played.
First. The campaign isn’t even on the disk.
What is this thing even installing? Because after you go to play the campaign its like, nah you gotta download it, heres part one… that’s right part one… youll play a mission in this joke of a campaign and then its like oh you nee to download part 2 now, heres another 26gb patch ontope of the 20 you just downloaded, but it doesn’t stope there, theres another 20 gb part 3.. .thats right.. nearly 70 GB patched in for not even 4 hour long campaign. That they couldn’t just put on the disc… downloading multiplayer and zombies makes sense because its primarily online.. but a 4 hour long campaign, it’s a joke…
I for one do understand why so many people love call of duty, its multiplayer, and thankfully its just as fun here as its ever been with all of its modes outside of team deathmatch.. that’s usually my favorite mode, but I just wasn’t feeling the maps this year in deathmatch, but I had an absolute blast anyway for hours playing that ultra addicting, spawn shoot die gameplay, and its been a hwile since ive played a call of duty game.. since ww2.. so im not sure if these things are new but I am loving the instant respawns here on the next gen.. and I also appreciate that camping snipers have a little reflection to give away their location.. ive never been a fan of zombies mode, its obviously here.. I cant fairly critique it as it just isn’t my thing… but the main reason I play a call of duty game, at least in my currently life where I don’t have the time to sink days into multiplayer is the campaign.. but thankfully I do have the fun and addictive multiplayer to play through while it takes more hours to download than it does to actually play…
Here you play as yourself, during the cold war, and the campaign actually started with tons of promise.. I wouldn’t mind if every year we got a well told 3-4 hour long story full of amazing set pieces and a mind blowing experience to compliment the fun multiplayer, and this campaign had its moments, it felt like an interactive movie with great moments and missions, some of the best stealth missions ive ever experienced in a first person shooter, but halfway through the campaign just falls apart, it becomes generic first person shooter level design and story telling, theres even a section of the game here youre redoing the same thing like 5 times in a row… that’s how much you can tell the creative juices have evaporated after an impressive start.. I didn’t want to stop playing, but I had to to let part 2 download… such a let down…
Call of Duty is what it is…
You know what youre going to get every year…
it never changes outside of the setting..and this is where the let down comes into play
Im personaly okay with a little 4 hour journey each year, but please put a little more effort and see that effort through, especially if again,, its only going to be 4 hours… it better be solid.
But at least you have some new maps to play with.
I give Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
    a 7/10

Even fiddling aroun with FOV and settings didnt help, never encountered this before.

Another stupid thing is that the game tries to connect you to the servers before you are able to select what you want to play. Sometimes I was kept in queue but was able to jump back into the game via PS5 quick actions. This shows, that there is something very wrong with the game presents itself.

The engine itself looks beautiful and the sound design is amazing. The RT feels minor im comparison to other title but still gives a decent mix of detail to the game. Loading times were okay-ish, I had one error loop which cured after closing the game and restarting the mission. After all the CoD games consume way too much disk space even if you only install partials.

Altogether this lead me to a 7/10. Campaign didnt feel as strong as other installments. Engine was fine but has some hiccups. The Dual Sense implementation is very well made I have to admit. The guns feel different and characteristic but I still think many people will just deactive this feature. Have the crank on a shotty especially against zombies was worth it.

But at the end I have to say very good CoD story, I would rate it at the best so far because the setting was well chosen. This century is not used very often in games! At the end I have to say a bit short again, the story could have been deeper and longer. But hey, for a sale, where I am looking for every CoD, good deal. Expand

The zombies are also extremely fun and exciting, and I could play it for hours (as intended.) The multiplayer, however, is extremely lacking in multiple areas. I bought this game to open all upgrades on weapons for upcoming Warzone seasons, it's obvious that those guns will dominate there.
As a game, the Cold War has a good single-player company and so-so multiplayer.
I have a strong feeling that the single-player and the multiplayer made by different people.

The Multiplayer is more of the same recipe, it's done right. Nothing new really. Fast gameplay which is responsive. The constant exit of lobby once game is complete is a negative. Also if the influx of cheaters increase I will refrain from purchasing any COD in future. They ruin the Gaming experience.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War was a pleasant surprise for me, especially considering I'm not usually a fan of shooter games. But this one truly hit different! Playing it on the PS5, thanks to my PSPlus Subscription, was an absolute treat.

Let's start with the visuals. The graphics in Black Ops Cold War are simply phenomenal. The level of detail in the environments, character models, and weapon designs is stunning. I found myself getting lost in the immersive and realistic world the game presented. And with the power of the PS5, the experience was taken to a whole new level.

The Haptic Feedback and Immersive Audio on the PS5 truly made the gameplay even more captivating. Every gunshot, explosion, and movement was brought to life through the controller, making me feel like I was right in the middle of the action. It's a level of immersion that really elevates the overall experience.

One of the highlights of my time with Black Ops Cold War was playing with my friends in local coop splitscreen. Hours of endless fun were had as we worked together to complete missions and take down enemies. It's always a blast to share the gaming experience with friends, and this game provided plenty of memorable moments.

However, when it comes to the story mode, I have to admit it didn't quite captivate me as much as I had hoped. While the gameplay was solid and action-packed, the narrative felt a bit lacking compared to some other franchises. It could have benefited from a deeper and more engaging storyline to truly hook players in.

Despite this, Black Ops Cold War still delivered on its core promise - intense and adrenaline-pumping shooter action. Whether I was engaging in thrilling gunfights, making use of various tactics and strategies, or simply enjoying the stunning visuals, the game managed to keep me hooked throughout.

In conclusion, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is a must-play for fans of the shooter genre, and even for those like me who don't typically gravitate towards these types of games. The visuals, haptic feedback, and immersive audio on the PS5 create an unforgettable experience, and the local coop splitscreen adds a whole new level of fun when playing with friends. While the story mode may not be as deep as some other franchises, the overall gameplay experience more than makes up for it. If you're looking for a thrilling and action-packed shooter game, Black Ops Cold War is definitely worth checking out.

Not even a decent Call of Duty campaign, why bother? Full disclosure, I downloaded this as a PS+ Essential monthly game. I did not play this at launch and really don’t care about unlocking things, season passes, or finding an on-line group for zombies mode.

The worst of this game is its enormous file size. Over 170GB of Call of Duty that included a lot of Call of Duty that I did not want and do not need. I think purpose is to so overload your hard drive that you have no space for the competition. No thanks. As soon as I finished the campaign, I freed up my hard drive space. Also bad, Activision wanted me to make an Activision account before unlocking on-line play. Hard pass. Now that Microsoft owns Activision, I am sure this will soon require a Microsoft account. Also a hard pass.

The campaign itself is hit and miss. Everything looks a little more PS5 than PS4, which is a nice departure from the last console transition. Remember the lackluster graphics of Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4? The levels are straight from the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Small, linear, and with little fanfare. Remember when games did wild things like have you fight through a building as it toppled over? The set pieces here are mostly reserved for cut scenes. The a.i. is also brain dead. I hear a lot about advances in a.i. yet video game a.i. seemed better in the early 2000s than it does now.

Gameplay in the campaign is a mix of stealth and traditional Call of Duty. This is no Hitman. Stealth levels are small and stealth actions are stiff. I appreciate the series trying something new. I would have appreciated if the effort was more successful. Really not sure how a war game was going to handle the Cold War. But somehow I am supposed to believe that a small invasion of Russia and Cuba was somehow not going to set off World War III. Something like the old 007 games would have been a better choice. The campaign itself is rather short, 6 hours. Not really worth your hard drive space.

Because I didn’t make an Activision account, I never tested the on-line game. Does it even matter? The Call of Duty Series is several games past Cold War. I’m sure some people are still playing and I guarantee that their XP unlocks and years of map knowledge means that I am no match for them. Call of Duty needs a neutral game mode like the old Overwatch; something people feel free to jump into at any time.

The Zombie mode is available for off-line solo play, and I gave it a try. It is interesting, but really made for a larger group. I appreciated the use of color and rounding out a $70 game as a total package for those willing to buy it at launch.

All-in-all, Call of Duty: Cold War is an interesting experiment like Battlefield: Hardline (the cops versus robbers game). Sure, it didn’t really work, but at least Activision tried. Shame on Activision for souring its product with giant download sizes and an emphasis on signing up for the in-game store. Funny enough, I’ve never actually bought a Call of Duty game even though I have played through most of them. I really don’t get why people buy into this.

This is what happens when Treyarch and Activision don’t listen to hardcore COD fans if no extra polish or delay would be in place in a middle of a pandemic. The campaign is short and sweet jointly developed by other Activision studios, but the multiplayer and zombies focused by Trollarch doesn’t capture that feeling of being a badass anymore since the first masterful Black Ops title came out. Is this the worst COD since Ghosts? No, but it is certainly better than Black Ops 4 by two points. Next time Trollarch, get your Schmidt together on making the best COD as precise it can be instead of rushing it with huge updates eating our hard drives up even though we just started the new console generation of gaming – damn! Thankfully, a few of the early bugs were ironed out of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and subsequent season passes have patched up modes and maps that were lacking. The campaign is genuinely intriguing but may not appeal to those who just want to run and gun. Zombies and Multiplayer modes are plentiful and there should be something for everyone to thoroughly enjoy. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War should be used as the poster child for PlayStation 5's DualSense controller which has been put to full use for an immersive experience. Casual players will be somewhat put off by the sheer storage space required to fully experience everything that is on offer, especially given that SSD capacity is this generation's gold dust, but Call of Duty die-hards will most likely overlook this.

I have no doubt that the latest Call of Duty will earn ridiculous amounts of money once again, but I will remember it as a dip in form, a game that’s closer to mediocrity than greatness. The story campaign has a satisfying finale but as a whole is rather uninspired, while the multiplayer has lost the tactical feel I enjoyed in Modern Warfare Remastered. [01/2021, p.56]

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the video game equivalent to that one kid in class with a sugar rush and an addiction to pixie sticks. Sure, it might be entertaining for a little while, but the more time you spend with it, the more you realize it’s just rambling on aimlessly. Ultimately, with its lack of a clear vision and focus on what makes a game fun, Cold War isn’t going to entertain you for long.
