Blue Prince is among the most creative and intriguing games released recently. Although its randomness can lead to moments of frustration, it is precisely this unpredictability that fuels the player's curiosity to continue exploring the mansion's secrets. The sense of discovery present in even the smallest details and the achievement of solving its mysteries contribute to an engaging and surprisingly addictive gameplay.

Admittedly, ideally we wouldn't write this review. Blue prince is a game best experienced without any prior knowledge. Unfortunately, we don't get paid for blank pages, and honestly: this is a masterpiece we can't and won't shut up about. Underneath the seemingly simple concept lies one of the most intriguing, clever, surprising, frustrating but at the same time best games of recent months.

Blue Prince is an exquisitely designed game that stays in your brain between play sessions. It is the video game equivalent of a Rubix Cube where every move you make can shape your path to success. Do not let this gem pass you by.

The adjective that better than any other could describe Blue Prince is "immense". A procedural puzzle game, roguelite in nature, reinvented starting from the mechanics of board games and transformed into a videogame with an exciting exploratory factor, which invites you to take pen and paper to always have the clues needed to solve the puzzles. The challenges posed on the chessboard of the mansion of Mt. Holly are revealed naturally, allowing you to admire not only the extreme variety and elegance of the puzzles, many of which are directly connected to the game structure itself, but also an incredible quantity, at times disturbing, just like a full-bodied narration that is not afraid to transcend the limits of reality.

Blue Prince is an indispensable nugget, one of the most exciting games of early 2025, and that's all there is to it. It's hard to talk about it without spoiling the huge surprise that awaits you. Without warning, the game bewitches us with its unique roguelite-puzzle game recipe. Insanely intelligent, the richness of its gameplay is based on puzzles that you have to solve yourself. Calling on our grey matter like never before, and even going beyond the boundaries of video games by forcing us to scribble our ideas on the corner of a table. Addictive in the extreme, even more rewarding than any roguelite, Blue Prince clearly deserves your attention. However, for us French-speaking fans, the language barrier can be a problem. But it can also be seen as a final test, and that suits it rather well, giving it an even more intriguing dimension in the end.

If you love narrative-driven games and intricate puzzles you piece together one clue at a time, and you’re willing to embrace its roguelite mechanics, Blue Prince will enchant you. Dogubomb has crafted a true indie gem: a brilliant example of clever game design that stands out for its charm and creativity. Every detail feels intentional, with just the right amount of randomness to keep both logic-lovers and casual explorers engaged, though at times, it may push that randomness a bit too far. Is it a masterpiece? Hard to say. But it’s definitely a game you should experience, even if roguelikes aren’t usually your thing, and easily one of the most intriguing titles of early 2025.

Blue Prince is a very interesting puzzle roguelike that made me think more about it the longer I played. Its only problem is that, even after understanding how it works, it relies more on luck than on your grasp of the rules, which can be very time consuming.

A beautifully made first person puzzle roguelite that demands tenacity and patience (and writing things down) to unravel its fascinating mysteries.

Blue Prince will break you, but sometimes it’s nice to be broken. Just like the blueprints pun my partner had to point out to me, there is something beautiful about finding the solution to something that was right in front of you the whole time. It’s clear that some technical aspects like the rate of room or items drops, and crashes need to be fixed. However, in terms of draftsmanship, Blue Prince stands unrivaled.

Blue Prince is easy to recommend if you've read the description of the premise and found the idea itself compelling. It's the idea that wins here, and maybe in the future developer Dogubomb can work with this diamond of a premise and polish some of the edges to make the player feel like they have a little more control over each outcome.

There's something to be taken from almost every run, though, whether that's knowledge, some sort of permanent progress, or just discovering a room you hadn't seen before. So dense with puzzles, secrets, and lore is Blue Prince that it rarely leaves you empty-handed, even if it can feel that way sometimes. Again, if you have the drive to see the game through on its terms, you'll be handsomely rewarded, but the journey getting to that point may be too inconsistent for some.
