Unfortunately, the story mode, the online infrastructure, the roster of playable characters, and even the balance leave much to be desired, but we are nevertheless convinced that the developer has succeeded in its main intent, which was to create a tie-in that fully respects the unique and unmistakable style of the license. Ultimately, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls may not be the video game adaptation that Bleach fans deserve and have been waiting for for two decades now, but so far it is the closest thing to it.

Rebirth of Souls takes some risks that pay off. Although a bit too complicated and poorly explained, its fighting system ends up being quite satisfying. It's a well-thought-out fighting game that could have used more of the 'oomph' Bleach deserves, but is still a welcome addition to the market, which hasn't seen many titles from this series in a long time.

I’m hoping that Bandai Namco and Tamsoft continue to update Bleach Rebirth of Souls and make the online modes more engaging. I’m also curious to see the four DLC characters from Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War bring to the table as well, but I’m not counting on any new TYBW-related story content coming to this game. If anything, a sequel with this content and more improvements could be the right move.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is reminiscent of the cel-shaded fighting games that were all the rage in the early 2000s. While the sometimes redundant and somewhat complex approach to combat may be surprising at first, the game quickly reveals the depth of its content with a roster of 32 characters and a Campaign mode that retraces a large part of the manga. The technical aspect, on the other hand, is behind, and we should therefore not expect a title that meets current visual codes. Thirty years after Toshinden, Tamsoft is giving the Bleach license a boost in video games, and that can only please fans.

BLEACH does a fine job of translating into an engaging fighting game, where staying true to the source material is a very strong point. Add engaging mechanics, strong audio and a cool presentation, and you have a package that is well worth a look for fans. However, you do have to take into account an unbalanced roster and the hit detection, which is not always accurate. At bottom, a solid game, but with room for improvement.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is fun once you get over the jargon-y names of its mechanics and some nuisance elements. It’s not exactly wowing me, but as far as 3D fighters go, it’s one of the better ones.

For fans of the franchise, it's not bad at all, but if anyone wants to get into Bleach through this product, I'd honestly recommend watching the anime on streaming platforms instead. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it's not aimed at the newer audience who just wants to have a good time with a fighting game.

The developers deserve credit – it would have been far too easy to do the bare minimum and call it a day. However, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is a legitimately compelling and well made arena fighter, that allows for some very thrilling fights. While other parts of the package are weaker and drag it down, this is the rare anime adaptation that can be recommended even to those who may not already be fans of the property.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls excels rather well as a fighting game but less as a complete package. The story mode, most of all, feels a bit sloppy, which is a shame considering the source material. Still, this is Bleach’s best video game outing by far and a great fighting game in general. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a game that turns the tides as much as Rebirth of Souls does. While not perfect, it has what it needs to become a staple title for anime/manga fans to enjoy.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is authentic to the anime, does a good job with the narrative retelling, and is meticulous at giving you all your favourite characters to brawl around with. I can’t see a Bleach fan picking this up and not having some immediate good fun with it. I just can’t see them still having fun with it a year from now, and while the Bleach star may have faded a little from a decade or whatever ago, I do think that there was more that could have been done with it than this.

Rebirth of Souls is fairly standard fare for an anime game, but it will be welcome for content-starved Bleach fans.

What saddens us about Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is that it’s clear this is a fighting game developed with a lot of passion and attention to detail — but the project’s low budget has dragged down many aspects of the title. The Story Mode is undoubtedly the highlight of the game: it follows the original storyline with obsessive fidelity, including many battles that other games would have skipped, and it’s packed with moments designed to delight fans of the series. Unfortunately, the cutscenes are marred by often atrocious animations. The combat system is truly original and does a great job of capturing the spirit of Bleach’s battles, but character imbalances, animation issues, and collision problems hold it back significantly. What hurts the game the most, however, is the online mode, which is virtually unsalvageable — especially due to its terrible netcode. That said, if you’re a big Bleach fan and you’re looking to relive Ichigo’s adventures firsthand, the excellent Story Mode still makes it worth considering.

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls knows how to be spectacular without neglecting to offer a certain amount of gameplay complexity, something most 3D fighting games based on a manga/anime can't boast. But, unfortunately, the rest of the game is not up to par, and it doesn't manage to achieve the Bankai.

While Bandai Namco and Tamsoft go to great lengths to deliver an original anime fighting game while avoiding arena fighter trappings, combat mechanics are too light to remain interesting over time. Bleach : Rebirth of Souls mainly targets shinigami fanatics and hardcore fans able to find every detail and reference scattered through the game. Good enough, I say.
