Apr 16, 2025Bionic Bay is a truly special platformer that is wildly creative and endlessly smart. Each new section of gameplay is a mini-puzzle that utilizes the game's movement and powers extraordinarily intuitively, leading to continuous rewarding solutions that encourage players to think outside the box and bend the world's mechanics to their will. It's a challenging side-scroller that will result in many do-overs, but checkpointing is perfectly placed to make each new attempt exciting and instantaneous instead of frustrating. Playing Bionic Bay is full of constant "Aha!" moments to the extent I haven't experienced since my first time playing Portal in 2007. The pixel art is breathtaking, and the world is full of ominous sci-fi mystery. Any fan of platformers that craves a game to push them to their limits will have plenty to love with Bionic Bay, and then can test their skills with a fun online component as well. It's a must-play that left me wanting more, and is deserving of a spot on the list of best modern platformers.

Apr 24, 2025From its first impressions, Bionic Bay already brought the promise of a high-level challenge and the final delivery confirmed its competence. Each jump, death and explosion has a fundamental learning that takes us to the end of the journey and it makes up for every minute spent in its completion.

Apr 21, 2025Bionic Bay is a superb and challenging physics platform game with a beautiful visual design, and clever puzzles within.
-
Apr 17, 2025A fast-moving and savagely difficult 2D platformer that draws equal inspiration from Limbo and Soulsborne games, with its own restless sense of invention that never falls short.
-
Apr 16, 2025The best thing I can say about a game of this nature is that it accomplishes what it sets out to do. It creates puzzles to be solved, gives players the tools to succeed, and then makes you feel like a dextrous genius when you execute successfully. Couple that fantastic visual design and a solid soundtrack and you have something special fans will come back to time and again. Don’t sleep on this wild ride.

Apr 24, 2025Bionic Bay is one of those titles that demonstrate the enormous potential of independent development and that make us turn our gaze to the indie to place many of its proposals among the best titles of the year. From its impeccable environmental physics to its mysterious tone, everything in this game is carefully designed to surprise, propose a challenge and, above all, have fun. If you like challenging platformers and worlds that tell stories without words, this is a game not to be missed.

May 23, 2025Bionic Bay is the perfect game to keep between bigger more involved titles but also has an interesting narrative for those who want it, perfectly balancing fun and challenge with a very approachable pick-up-and-play style.

Its stunning art direction immediately sets it apart, lending the game a fresh and distinctive identity in an otherwise crowded space. Adding in the thoughtful mechanics and meticulous level design, Bionic Bay stands out as a truly special platformer and an essential purchase for fans of the genre.

Apr 17, 2025Mesmerizing and immersive to the point of breathtaking, Bionic Bay is one of the most visually stunning indie games ever made. Challenging in just the right measure and with broad appeal for speedrunners, it has all the elements to go viral among hardcore players while remaining unforgettable for casual gamers.

Apr 27, 2025While the severe environment and sound design didn’t always work for me, and some of the puzzle solutions were stymied by wildly unpredictable onscreen variables, I was thoroughly impressed with Bionic Bay’s high challenge and ingenious twists on real-world physics. It’s a tight, fast-moving, and no-nonsense adventure that demands careful observation and strong thumbstick control in equal measures. You already know if that’s the vibe that lands for you; if it is, this mysterious journey should be on your list.

-
Apr 24, 2025Bionic Bay is hardcore as it is intended to be: minimal graphics, a system full of randomness, progressively increasing difficulty and a lot of frustration that will take you away from the screen just enough to make you return a few hours later more motivated than before. It is not a game to be taken lightly and is definitely worth the time you dedicate to it, especially if you want to try online rankings.

Apr 17, 2025Bionic Bay is one of those surprise indie gems that happens to excel in not just its art style, but gameplay as well. As a mix of physics-based puzzles and precision platforming, Bionic Bay has a dynamic platforming identity that is easy to love.
-
Apr 16, 2025Bionic Bay and its tough and demanding action won't be for the platforming fans out there who bask in the delight of Spyro the Dragon or Kirby, but those who enjoy the increased challenge that comes from Crash Bandicoot and games like Mario Maker will absolutely fall in love with this game. It does enough from a gameplay and level design point of view to stand out, all while the art direction and visuals continue to attract and hold your attention. Sure, it could do with a bit of extra focus from a narrative standpoint to make its campaign more memorable, and the audio and soundtrack is serviceable at best, but other than these minor problems, Bionic Bay impresses and is absolutely a game that platformer fans should be keeping an eye on.
-
May 2, 2025Bionic Bay could be described as Limbo on steroids, featuring clever platforming that leverages convincing physics and demands quick reflexes, without ever becoming frustrating. However, its repetitive environmental design and puzzles begin to wear thin toward the end.
-
May 20, 2025There's always room for a small indie platformers. Finnish Mureena Games and Psychoflow Studio have created a collaboration, which borrows a lot from titles like INSIDE and Limbo, but doesn't quite get there in the end.
-
Edge MagazineMay 16, 2025Unlike in a game such as Limbo, the main challenge is not finding solutions to puzzles but performing them. [Issue#411, p.118]
