With a successful transition to a fully realized open world, Atelier Yumia is a strong start to a new series while serving as a fantastic follow-up to the Atelier Ryza games. The world is large and rewarding with something around every corner, and the cast is unique and lovable while having a whole lot of heart. Battles are active and intense, ensuring the player is always engaged. While the synthesis system may initially seem unintuitive, the payoff for learning the system’s intricacies far outweighs the few hours of confusion. A stellar soundtrack and gorgeous visuals complete the package, ensuring Atelier Yumia punches far above its weight while competing with contemporaries whose budgets are multiple times its size.

Atelier Yumia is a strong entry in the beloved JRPG franchise. Despite a few growing pains, it adopts the cozy and niche franchise into something more digestible for a wider audience thanks to a well-executed open-world format, modern takes on iconic features, and an engaging, untraditional story.

After years of small-time games, the franchise finally reached more people than its dedicated niche following. Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land capitalizes on successes from the Ryza trilogy and blazes its own trail with changes of its own.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is another excellent release from one of the most consistent RPG series today. The narrative is the highlight, but the combat and synthesis systems bring their own brilliance to a journey that will please both old fans and new alchemists alike.

Atelier Yumia is one of the most ambitious and complete installments of this long-lived franchise. Its renewed combat system, the freedom of exploration and the incorporation of new mechanics such as the construction of bases give a fresh air to the saga.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land presents an expansive and rewarding journey and I'm excited to see what the future has in store for the capable and lovely Yumia. This proves yet again that Atelier is up there with the best that RPGs have to offer.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is an undoubtedly fun, charming, and riveting entry into a well-established franchise. With a sprawling open world to explore, a variety of interesting ideas and themes, an extraordinary story, charming characters, and a completely overhauled synthesis system, Atelier Yumia is a great starting point for newcomers, and a welcomed addition to a much-loved franchise by fans.

Possibly the best Atelier game to date, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a thoroughly enjoyable, and rather cosy, RPG that anyone can easily sink hours upon hours into.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land takes the beloved RPG series in a bold new direction, blending emotional storytelling with expansive open-world exploration. While its narrative depth and revamped synthesis system shine, underwhelming villains and uneven gameplay balance hold it back from greatness.

Atelier Yumia introduces many new gameplay elements that will influence the entire Atelier series. Some still need polishing, but we can certainly see where it's headed.

Gust successfully reinvents the Atelier formula with a new protagonist, an expansive world full of secrets, and refined synthesis mechanics. However, its slow pacing, predictable story, and underdeveloped secondary characters prevent it from reaching greater heights.

Calling Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land a guided JRPG experience is probably the best way to recommend this title to others. Everything bar the combat has been streamlined and simplified to make this entry the most approachable one to date for newcomers.

Admittedly, there are a couple rough creases here that need some addressing, with the lightning issue and some systems definitely needing a bit more polish, but overall, this is the best chance you’ll get if you want to get into the Atelier series of games. If you’re a fan of the open world genre, this will definitely appeal to you that much more.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a soft reboot of the popular series with a focus on exploration and puzzles in a much darker world.

A new chapter aimed at tracing a different path for the series, with satisfactory results and which could only partially displease some longstanding fans.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a JRPG that stays true to the signature style of the saga, offering a vast world to explore and an abundance of alchemy, featuring one of the most intricate and comprehensive crafting systems in the gaming landscape. The decision to switch to a more action-oriented combat system compared to previous entries speeds up both battles and exploration. However, it makes fights feel somewhat bland and chaotic due to gameplay that, in this regard, lacks refinement. From a technical standpoint, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is well-crafted and offers a wealth of locations to discover. That said, truly interesting points are somewhat limited. There are hundreds upon hundreds of ingredients to collect, many enemies to defeat, and numerous side quests to complete, yet these activities tend to become repetitive, following the same familiar patterns. While it may not be the game that brings the Atelier brand into the mainstream, for crafting enthusiasts, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a title not to be missed.

Atelier Yumia is definitely a new era for the series, more dynamic, more ambitious, with the ability to attract new players without losing what veterans like. The combat system is a lot of fun, the storyline interesting and the minor problems don't detract from the overall experience.

Atelier Yumia is lush. It’s vibrant. It’s a feast for the eyes. I expect that some will compare it to Xenoblade Chronicles’ own spectacular designs, and while I’m not quite sure I would go that far, I ultimately came away far more impressed than I had anticipated by the diverse biomes on display. Suffice it to say, this makes everything in the previous paragraph that much more engaging.

I really like most of the changes in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. There are a number of rough spots that keep it from being perfect, but it's a very solid attempt at shaking up the franchise without losing what makes it successful. I can see it being a controversial entry in the franchise due to the shift in tone and gameplay, but it does a lot of things right. I had a great time wandering around, collecting items, and crafting items and weapons. In general, it felt like I was on an adventure. It might not be the Atelier I was used to, but it was plenty of fun.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a wonderfully charming addition to the long-running JRPG series. It's a fantastic jumping in point to the franchise for new players, and has enough tweaks to the established formula to provide a breath of fresh air for existing fans. The story is a little slight, but the appealing characters, streamlined yet robust crafting system, and rewarding exploration make this a recipe for a good time.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Imagined Land is not the definitive installment of the saga, but its ideas and new approaches lead it to establish itself as a perfect entry to capture new fans looking to enjoy an unusual JRPG formula in the genre.

Atelier Yumia is a step forward for the franchise, but still needs to improve its open world and the gameplay opportunities within it.

Atelier Yumia is the most accessible entry in the series, with a strong open-world approach and solid story, though combat can feel repetitive. Lack of PT-BR may deter some potential fans in Brazil, but English-speaking JRPG fans will find a great experience here.

After the disappointing Atelier Marie Remake and the questionable decision by the development team to make the 25th episode of the main series a gacha game for mobile devices, the future of the Atelier series seems uncertain. With Atelier Yumia in particular, Gust Corporation has perhaps taken more risks than it should have, and we believe that not all bets have been won. The new action-style combat system lacks the strategic component and depth that had made us appreciate the Secret Trilogy so much, and even the process of alchemical synthesis seems cumbersome and unsatisfying. The product recovers a few points thanks to the exploration, now richer and more multifaceted than ever, and an engaging narrative plot, as well as characterized by mature themes. Paradoxically, Atelier Yumia could really captivate those who have never frequented the series, while there is the risk that historical fans will struggle to accept the change of direction desired by the Japanese studio and above all the abandonment of the carefree atmosphere that has always differentiated the brand from other JRPGs. Hoping that Atelier Yumia remains an isolated experiment, we await the completely offline episode of Atelier Resleriana also due out in 2025, which at least on the artistic front seems much more promising.

About halfway through my playthrough, one thought permeated my mind through the rest of my time with Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land: Yumia 2 is going to be a banger game. But as for this first entry, it ended up being a game I wanted to love but just ended up liking. Mechanically the game has a wonderfully constructed foundation, excelling at synergizing all the core components in its gameplay loop. But ultimately, the lack of a meaningful open world framework to justify partaking in said loop holds this latest Atelier title back. Hopefully Yumia and her band of friends gets their own trilogy to iron out the rough edges so its strengths shine brighter. But as of now, Atelier Yumia is a good game just shy of greatness.

Atelier Yumia is the classic case of a niche series desperately trying to adapt to a changing market, losing what made it unique in the process. The shift to an open-world structure, instead of expanding gameplay possibilities, reduces them to a repetitive loop of activities, while the combat system, despite a few interesting ideas, lacks depth.

Atelier Yumia is far from the best entry in the series for newcomers, but it's certainly the largest and most accessible.

Despite its shortcomings, Atelier Yumia still offers a fun and engaging experience, especially for fans of the series and alchemy mechanics. The story, UI, and animations are definite highlights, and the synthesis system remains a strong point. I will recommend this to anyone that wants to chill, gather, craft and switch off for a while. However, the poor world design, redundant mechanics, and unbalanced progression prevent it from reaching the heights of its predecessors.

We found more weaknesses than strengths in its features, especially the narrative, which is rather lacking. For its target audience it may be a good choice, but for the average user it is a title where you will not find what you expect from it.

Regardless of these little issues, Atelier Yumia is a great step forward for the roughly 30-year-old franchise. It proves that GUST still knows how to make the franchise feel new and exciting, all while keeping long-term fans happy. Yumia is a great protagonist, and the action-battle RPG feels great in action. Be ready to learn as you play, and prepare to sink plenty of time into this world. It’s a fantastic addition, and I’m already eager to see what Yumia’s next adventure is going to look like.
