Mar 25, 2025Astro Bot can proudly stand beside the PlayStation icons it so fondly celebrates.
-
Nov 27, 2024A perfect, charming platformer that will delight players throughout the entire journey. This is an easy recommendation and a must-play!
-
PLAYOct 15, 2024While it currently enjoys a wealth of mature, cinematic titles, PlayStation has been crying out for a fresh, colourful mascot platformer, and Astro Bot ticks most of those boxes – at the very least, Team Asobi proves there are multiple ways to accessorise the chilly veneer of white plastic. As a 30-something gamer with rent to pay, few things inspire childlike glee in me, but Astro Bot manages it again and again. Whether it’s diving into an underwater level and pretending I’m exploring an aquarium from the other side of the glass, or just the simple tactile joy of Astro Bot’s little feet tapa-tapa-ing across the DualSense, I’m feeling a wide-eyed wonder that I thought I’d grown out of. His Rescue Mission was a few games back, but it’s safe to say that Astro Bot has definitely resuscitated PlayStation’s long-absent sense of fun. [Issue#46, p.80]
-
Edge MagazineOct 3, 2024Take away the branding and there remains a core of irrepressible imagination, the fuel of so many great games, that is anything but robotic. [Issue#403, p.92]

Sep 23, 2024If we do have one point of criticism, it is that there is no option to play the game in pairs. Games with such a co-op option are scarce these days, but it could have completed the experience completely. Still, as far as we are concerned, this space adventure deserves all the stars. All in all, Astro Bot is a very fun, accessible game. In fact, we dare say more: in this game, Astro rivals Mario as a platform king. Sorry, Nintendo.
-
Sep 19, 2024It’s more than just a big, beautiful celebration of PlayStation gaming over the last 30 years or so, but an absolute triumph of just straight-up, uncompromised, guileless fun in video games in general.
-
Sep 13, 2024It comes within touching distance of true greats such as Super Mario Odyssey thanks to nuanced controls and visual creativity, though perhaps Nintendo’s work retains the edge.
-
Sep 13, 2024Astro Bot is one of the best games I’ve played, period. A jubilant little adventure that dedicates itself fully to making an audience happy. For a neurodivergent player the visuals, sounds, and DualShock textures are indescribably satisfying. The accessible design makes it perfect for both children and adults. It’s a wonderful mascot platformer, the likes of which I’ve severely missed, and it’s the most tasteful way a game company has ever patted itself on the back...For once, the pats are well earned.
-
Sep 10, 2024The amount of dedication and passion that’s gone into Astro Bot is obvious in every pixel of every texture; there’s not a single bug, glitch, or texture issue to be seen. Its controls are easy to understand and incredibly tight, with Astro moving exactly how you need him to. In the 15 hours I’ve spent so far in finishing its campaign and going back to replay levels to pick up missing Bots, I’ve not encountered a single moment of frustration. It’s beautifully designed both in its self-contained levels and those dedicated to much-loved, Sony-exclusive franchises.
-
Sep 10, 2024Play Has No Limits has been PS5's campaign motto since the beginning, and Astro Bot truly defines it. With a tremendous amount of improvements over its predecessor, Astro Bot pushes the lines out wide when it comes to creativity and offers a satisfying experience to any gamer, regardless of age or interests.
-
Sep 10, 2024Astro Bot is one of the best platformers in years with endless charm and inventive levels that celebrate decades of gaming history.
-
Sep 9, 2024Astro Bot is the rare perfect video game.
-
Sep 9, 2024From start to finish, from top to bottom, no matter how you look at it, Astro Bot is simply sublime. A genuine treat the likes of which we haven’t seen from any first-party PlayStation studio in far too long. Not only has Sony found a new franchise that absolutely needs to continue with new iterations every few years, but in Astro Bot, the company now has a new icon it can rely on for generations to come.
-
Sep 6, 2024I was still itching for more just to keep lapping up the myriad nostalgic references scattered everywhere. Astro Botis a product of passion, playfulness, and perfectly portioned platforming pastimes. Team ASOBI has hit it out of the park with this one and quite possibly landed a Game of the Year grand slam.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is simply perfect. One of the best PlayStation games ever made. A 3D platformer that rivals Nintendo's work. A serious candidate for the Game of the Year award.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is 3D platforming with charm and fun reminiscent of the best Nintendo has to offer, in an experience that pays joyful homage to PlayStation's history.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot doesn't just deliver on the promise and potential displayed in PS5 pack-in demo Astro's Playroom, but soars above and beyond to serve up a near-perfect platformer to rival – and possibly surpass – the best of Super Mario's Mushroom Kingdom romps.
-
Sep 5, 2024Forget about Super Mario Galaxy and other beloved platformers: We've found our favourite and what's without a doubt 2024's best game.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot lives up to all the clichés: the game is, indeed, a love letter to PlayStation and all the franchises that are part of its history. Team Asobi didn't even need this to make a good game, as is evidenced by its excellent platforming, level design and gameplay mechanics, but they took advantage of the platform's rich legacy to transform this experience into something memorable.
-
Sep 5, 2024More than anything, my time with Astro Bot is dominated by one word: surprise. There were moments that had my jaw on the floor, moments I cackled with glee, and even one or two where may have shed a tear. Astro Bot is everything that I love about video games — the potential they have to cause wonder and excitement, self-reflection, and, most importantly, fun.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is the first 3D platformer from Sony that we got in many years, it is one of my favorite experiences with the Playstation 5, be it the use of the DualSense features or Astro's world as a whole and I hope Sony will make more games like this.
-
Sep 5, 2024Especially if you have children with whom you can pass the controller back and forth, Astro Bot is one of the feel-good games of the year. And if you don't have any offspring, this will let out your inner child with ease. Astro Bot, then: a game that was well worth sending a chrome Sackboy back through time for.
-
Sep 5, 2024Whether it’s the visuals, gameplay, or soundtrack, Astro Bot picks up the best pieces of PlayStation’s most memorable franchises and mashes them all together in the most endearing way possible, all while effortlessly balancing its own identity through its innovative platforming set-pieces.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is still the wonderful tribute to PlayStation history and hardware design that Astro’s Playroom was, but it has been given room to grow beyond a characterful tech demo and into the best platform game I have played in many years. Actually, it’s one of the best platformers I’ve ever played, – and, as a child of the 90s, I truly have played a tonne of them. PlayStation has been lacking a great homegrown family-friendly game since LittleBigPlanet, and Astro Bot is a worthy inheritor of that series’ playfully humorous legacy.
-
Sep 5, 2024Team ASOBI came out swinging for the fences, expanding on the existing games in the series in every direction. Astro Bot is a delight in every sense of the word. A magnificent tour through Sony PlayStation’s history, the franchise – and the Astro Bot character – has enough charm and chops to now launch forward as PlayStation's premier mascot-driven series. Stellar platforming, a mountain of secrets, and a never-ending sense of discovery and adventure, Astro Bot is a new classic. So. Much. Fun.
-
Sep 5, 2024Just as with Playroom, Astro Bot is a game that absolutely celebrates all things PlayStation, aimed at anyone and everyone who loves this console and the games that have made it what it is. Whether you’re an old timer or a young kid with their first console — or better yet, a combination of the two — the are dozens of hours of fun to be mined here. It’s a fun, easy-going romp through PlayStation history, and absolutely impossible to play without a smile plastered to your face.
-
Sep 5, 2024To me, the biggest perk Astro Bot has was being able to see my son play and love his time with it so much. He was engulfed in the world immediately and finished the story before I did. He also compared it to Mario Odyssey, which he shares the same love of it as I do. This was a game that continued the Father/Son bonding we have been building in gaming and even came to my rescue on one those difficult challenge levels I mentioned above. Despite the ease of picking the game up, mastering platforming is a whole other challenge and my son was up to the challenge. Seeing him finish the levels I spent 20 minutes trying to pass is one of the coolest nerd dad moments I have had. In short, I cannot boast about this game enough and plan to chat more about it on Pressed For Time in the near future, so stand by. Astro Bot is well worth the price of admission and will be a great gaming option for all ages with the Holidays coming up quickly.
-
Sep 5, 2024It really feels like the developers thought of everything, and thanks to their efforts, Astro Bot is pure joy in video game form. I went into it with high expectations thanks to Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro's Playroom, and it not only met my expectations, but completely exceeded them. It's the best 3D platformer since Super Mario Odyssey hit the scene in 2017 and will be remembered as an all-time classic of the genre. Everyone with a PS5 should get their hands on this game ASAP, and hopefully, Team Asobi gets to continue making masterpieces.
-
Sep 5, 2024The result is a fully fledged puzzle platforming game, packed with collectibles, funny boss battles and amazing little gimmicks that realise the full destiny of the PS5’s unique playability as well as giving Super Mario a run for his money.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro is back stronger than ever. Team Asobi has created a game that not only celebrates the history of PlayStation, but also the very existence of the fans. Astro Bot is a platformer that, despite always following the same thread, manages to constantly surprise the player and awaken a multitude of different emotions.
-
Sep 5, 2024I’m a firm believer in there being too much of a good thing. So in my first few hours of Astro Bot, I kept thinking, “Can this really be sustained through to the credits without losing its charm?” The answer is a bonafide yes. The reason is nothing ever felt half-baked. Team Asobi brought so much creativity and thoughtfulness to their game, that you can’t help but want to spend more time playing. From the intricate ways, Astro Bot pays its respect to the nearly 30-year-old brand to the music. There wasn’t a minute across my 12-hour playthrough to gain the Platinum Trophy that I wasn’t smiling, humming, or laughing.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is one of the best platformer games ever made. It is a wonderful package that invest everything for the joy of the player. A love letter not only to PlayStation, but for the whole videogame history.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is true perfection. I entered the game hoping it would recreate the same sense of magic that Astro’s Playroom brought to life so wonderfully, but what I instead discovered was a true elevation in every sense. With this release, Astro has firmly cemented his status as an icon of the platforming genre. This is beyond being an entertaining platformer. It’s one of the most carefully considered and impressive games I have ever played. If you’ve grown up with PlayStation always having been a constant in your life, the journey you’re about to embark on will assuredly be the most heartwarming trip down memory lane. Astro Bot is a monumental triumph that I’m not going to stop thinking about for a very, very long time.
-
Sep 5, 2024When it's all done I'm left with that strange feeling of being very well cared for. I've seen a bunch of wild sights. I've messed around with cool gadgets, used the controller in unusual ways, tilting it, yes, but also blowing into it, trying to read the buried hieroglyphs of its rumble, I've ticked boxes, collected things, unlocked things, nodded at references that make me feel old, or sharp-eyed, or generally in the know. But when I close my eyes I see the tumbling fruit, the hundreds and thousands, the gems stacked so high I can kick through them as if I'm wading through autumn leaves. I think, more than anything, of all the glorious bits and pieces.
-
Sep 5, 2024There’s no denying that Astro Bot owes a lot to its predecessors, but it still manages to find ways to innovate and make its own mark, from the excellent integration of PlayStation’s history, to the unbelievable Hero Worlds, to the creative new mechanics and power-ups. Add in gorgeous visuals, joyful vibes, near-perfect controls, a terrific soundtrack, and excellent rewards for curiosity and exploration, and you have the makings of something truly special.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot only cares about fun, and I genuinely can't think of a single moment it made me wish something had been handled differently, tweaked to be easier, or expanded upon. It's just perfect.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an excellent, brilliant game, full of good ideas, innovation and magic. It's a love letter to PlayStation but also and above all to video games. Asobi's game knows how to renew itself at every moment and offer something fun and intelligent in its gameplay mechanics. Fun and colorful, it offers a generous and definitely unforgettable experience. The GOTY 24 is undoubtedly here!
-
Sep 5, 2024Despite having high expectations for Astro Bot, Team Asobi still found a way to surpass all of my hopes. This isn’t just one of the best games of 2024, it’s one of the best platformers that I have played in the last decade. Those who have a long attachment to PlayStation or just a simple love for games of this genre cannot let Astro Bot pass them by.
-
Sep 5, 2024Across the 10-15 hours of Astro Bot I gratefully lapped up, I had an immovable grin on my face. I smiled and laughed (unironically) from start to finish—Astro Bot is ridiculously fun and makes gaming fun.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a must-play game that brilliantly showcases the PlayStation 5's capabilities, especially the DualSense controller. With fun gameplay and hidden easter eggs, it’s a fantastic experience for all ages. Astro finally gets the spotlight it deserves, and anticipation for future DLC and sequels is high.
-
Sep 5, 2024This is a game designed with purity at its heart. Really, it’s the cutest product placement you’ll ever see. While it is a celebration of PlayStation as a brand, and a pat on the back for years of good business, it’s one that feels well-earned. It’s a nod to the many adventures that PlayStation has created and supported, and a wonderful tribute to decades of positive memories.
-
Sep 5, 2024To play Astro Bot is to love Astro Bot, it's as simple as that. It's a heartwarming and flawless experience, and a 3D platforming masterpiece.
-
Sep 5, 2024If, like me, you’ve been waiting for Nintendo to deliver a new 3D Mario game for the best part of a decade, look no further - Team ASOBI has done it themselves. For those who own a PlayStation, consider Astro Bot an essential purchase.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot has set a new benchmark that all 3D platformers now have to reach, and I’ll be waiting excitedly while they try.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a love letter to video games that sets a new standard in 3D platforming, with ridiculously creative stages and gorgeous visuals.
-
Sep 5, 2024Few studios are as well-named as Team Asobi. They have put the ‘play’ back in PlayStation. Astrobot is simply an exceptional example of a genre that almost everyone but Nintendo treats like yesterday’s news. Live-service shooters are dead; long live the platformer!
-
Sep 5, 2024In a world of by-the-numbers sequels and soulless cash grabs, Astro Bot stands as an oasis, an absolute masterpiece packed to the brim with charm, creativity, and a genuine love for video games, old and new. There are still four months left in the year, but if I'm being honest, I think I've already found my pick for game of the year.
-
Sep 5, 2024An obscenely polished and soul-affirming triumph from every angle, Astro Bot isn't just an unabashed celebration of all things PlayStation, it's a deeply passionate celebration of everything you could and should love about a video game. There are no microtransactions, no season passes and no busywork padding - just precisely engineered 3D platforming with an overabundance of joy on offer. Astro Bot is a big, warm hug of a videogame that also happens to be not just one of the best platform games ever made, but one of the best PS5 games ever made, too. Team Asobi, please never stop making these games.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a stunning 3D platformer, and easily among the best games in PS5's library. It fully delivers on the promise of Astro's Playroom, building on the rock solid core of tight controls and inventive gameplay and turning everything up to 11. With tons to see and do, almost endless fresh ideas, innovative use of the DualSense's features, and truly charming presentation, it's a confident and cohesive experience that players of all ages will love. To top it all off, it's a perfect game to celebrate PlayStation's 30th anniversary, reflecting on the myriad series that made the platform what it is today.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a charming and cheeky nod to a lot of PlayStation history and a powerful demonstration of PS5 hardware, but more than anything, it's just a ridiculously good game.
-
Sep 5, 2024You tend to start writing lines in your head when compiling a review, and one that stuck with me early was to call Astro Bot 'the best platformer since Super Mario Odyssey'. Then I played a little more and started to think 'maybe it's better'.
-
Sep 5, 2024In its playful personality and incredibly inventive design, Astro Bot reminds me a lot of Mario Odyssey. It truly does sit alongside the best platformers of all time, providing some moments of pure magic and joy. Considering how smart and unexpected much of Astro Bot is, the possibilities for future adventures are endless.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot isn't simply an enjoyable platformer with some nostalgia tying it together; it's a generationally impressive entry in the genre that understands PlayStation at an atomic level. The sheer level of joy the game produces makes it impossible to compare it to anything other than Mario's very best adventure. Astro is no longer a vector through which to reference PlayStation icons; he is a PlayStation icon.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a game full of passion, quality and competence, consolidating Team Asobi as the best and most creative studio under the PlayStation Studios umbrella. It delivers an enchanting experience from start to finish, with fun and varied mechanics enough that the player doesn't notice the time passing. It is also worth praising the excellent localization into Brazilian Portuguese.
-
Sep 5, 2024I cannot stress how much is packed in this. I saw cameos I never expected. The nostalgia overload is almost too much at times. I haven’t had this much fun with a game in a long time, and even though I have rolled credits, I am going back to 100% this. Astro’s Playroom was my first Platinum Trophy, Astro Bot will be my second. This game brings me more joy than I expected, and it will be at the top of my favorite games of the year.
-
Sep 5, 2024ASTRO BOT is creative, inventive, insanely fun, and a true love letter to the legacy of the PlayStation.
-
Oct 9, 2024When Sony pulls off Nintendo and does it so remarkably well, it’s one of those times you are glad to still be gaming. Astro Bot is one of the most charming and immersive experiences of pure interactive innocence we have had the chance to play in recent years. Whether you’re a 3D platform fan or you’re just yearning for the feeling you had when playing video games for the first time, Astro Bot has you covered.
-
Sep 25, 2024Astro Bot is by far the most fun, feel-good game I've ever played on Playstation 5. Not because it's easy, not because it's a snack game, but because it does everything perfectly and never fails to make the player smile. As many have said, Playstation may have finally found its defining mascot.
-
Sep 11, 2024Astro Bot offers a fresh yet nostalgic platforming experience that excels with its smooth gameplay and well-designed levels. Featuring countless collectibles and secrets, the game immerses players with nods to classic PlayStation IPs. Despite minor flaws in enemy design, Astro Bot stands as a must-play title that honors PlayStation’s platforming legacy.
-
Sep 8, 2024I'm not just saying Astrobot is a great game because it's fun as a platformer, or because it's full of PlayStation nostalgia. The real reason lies in how every element of the game is focused on delivering the 'pure joy of gaming'. Every aspect points in this direction, making it stand out as a truly remarkable experience.
-
Sep 5, 2024ASTRO BOT is fantastic. It is one of those videogames that knows how to follow a direction and fully commits to make you fall in love with the purest fun. Although it is clear that this is a videogame made by and for fans of the Japanese brand, it is also a celebration of what this medium represents and all those incredible moments that it has made us spend from childhood to adulthood. It is a game that celebrates being a videogame to remind us why we love this medium so much.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot from developer Team Asobi and Sony Interactive Entertainment is a wonderful entry into Astro’s bigger adventure possibilities. The game features creative levels, plenty of personality and positivity, and several reasons to replay it once the main adventure has concluded. While it could have a bit more variety with its common enemies, the bosses, and uniquely built levels deliver more entertainment and joyful meta than should legally be allowed. This is a great big beginning for what should be a long-lasting Sony mascot.
-
Sep 5, 2024Team Asobi's talent shines brightly in Astro Bot, a rich platformer with great humor, extremely satisfying gameplay, and excellent level design. Beyond that, it serves as a beautiful love letter to PlayStation's 30 year legacy.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a delightful adventure that blends original ideas with a solid platforming foundation, delivering an experience that has long been missing from the PlayStation Studios catalog. Each level introduces something new which exhibits the creativity of the talented development team. While the game is a charming and stress-free journey, it also offers optional levels for those seeking a greater test. Astro Bot isn’t just a must-play for genre fans; it fills a significant gap in Sony’s lineup. Being a strong contender for Game of the Year, this is a must-have for every PlayStation owner.
-
Sep 5, 2024With Astro Bot, Team Asobi puts out a peerless platformer that doesn't really do anything wrong. The gameplay, the music, the graphics, the variety, the fun, the cameos, the adventure, it is a near-perfect execution of a 3D platformer. Did you like Astro's Playroom? Then this is definitely a must-have. One of the most fun games of this year.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an excellent platform game. It's fun, accessible, varied and full of collectibles. The references to the franchises and games that have been part of the history of PlayStation consoles are amazing, especially the stages themed around specific series. The only downside is that it's relatively short, and it may seem easy for 3D platform games veterans.
-
Sep 5, 2024It has everything that makes a platformer fun, from great level design and stunning worlds to a well-crafted gameplay system and exciting boss fights. It is perhaps the best platformer Sony has ever made.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is what deserves to be called a video game, and a beautiful homage to the history of PlayStation. It’s full of creativity and designed to surprise the player and let them have fun. A must have for PS5 owners.
-
Sep 5, 2024With copious amounts of variety, a delightful presentation, rewarding collectibles, an absurd amount of references, and cuteness to spare, ASTRO BOT is one of the best 3D platformers ever created. It's essentially a tribute to gaming as a whole.
-
Sep 5, 2024Team Asobi turns a convincing tech demo into a full-fledged game with top marks, again showing all developers out there the potential of haptic feedback. Entertaining, full of secrets and framed by an impressive audio-visual presentation, Astro Bot is a winner, partially limited by a moderate longevity and a series of facilitations that will not appeal to everyone. If you plan to explore its universe far and wide in search of secrets after watching the credits roll, make it yours immediately.
-
Sep 5, 2024Robotastic! With Astro Bot, the unofficial PlayStation mascot has finally arrived in the absolute Jump&Run top class.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an incredible game, a really touching and fun tribute to the 30 years of PlayStation. With creative level design, a lot of small secrets to uncover, spectacular sound design and a wonderful use of the DualSense features, it, for sure, is Sony's standout title in 2024.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is everything you could wish for from the Playroom demo and so much more. With unparalleled style and immense love, Asobi delivers one of the best platformers in years, full of fantastic details, nods, and music.
-
Sep 5, 2024A platformer that's intended to be accessible for players of all skill levels, Astro Bot brings a celebration of cameos and heroes from forgotten Sony-related franchises together in a title that shows off the unique potential of the PlayStation 5 and its DualSense controller.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot never stops, it plays with the player and is played continuously. It alternates commitment and simplicity, nostalgia and joy, with even a touch of unexpected epicness at the end. It is a videogame amusement park where a smiling treasure hunt has been organized. What treasure? The videogame itself.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is just one of the best platformers of recent years. The high variety of gameplay and setting, precise controls, great boss fights and several wonderful references to famous PlayStation video games, the game is a need to play for any genre fan with a PS5.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro has been a well known representative of the PlayStation brand for quite a few years now. Nevertheless, Astro Bot is the confirmation of the little guy as the go-to platforming experience within PlayStation, even on par with legends such a Super Mario. Astro Bot is a wonderful video game that will keep you engaged from beginning to end, and with a grin from ear to ear.
-
Sep 27, 2024Team Asobi demonstrated through Astro Bot that video games don't need to be pretentious to be fun. The only issue this title has is its excessive reverence for the PS5, which, while a good console, isn't necessarily changing this generation of gaming. Beyond that, we have an excellent title with a high level of replayability that immerses you in a world full of adventures, reminding you that a game should provide plenty of entertainment and not headaches.
-
Sep 5, 2024In Astro Bot, behind the hundreds of adorable little robots, I see a team of creators who truly love video games. They've harnessed the power of the PS5 and the exceptional haptic feedback of the DualSense controller to deliver an unforgettable platforming adventure. During this cosmic journey, I believe you'll rediscover, just like I did, the purest and most joyful moments of playing video games. Forget about those disappointing live-service games, in-game purchases, and microtransactions. We genuinely need more games like Astro Bot.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is the celebration of 30 years of video games on PlayStation, a tribute that does not remain only in nostalgia or the easy wink: there is room for the great sagas and hits, but also for forgotten games, and all are gathered around a great and no less fun platform game, that feels like it will be a classic in a not very distant future.
-
Oct 4, 2024All things considered, I’m proud to say that Astro Bot is a 3D platformer every gamer should play, not just for PlayStation fans. This lovable, adorable white and blue bot offers a mixture of fun and engaging platforming gameplay with the PS5 spin and PlayStation nostalgia to please both new and longtime fans in multiple ways. Astro Bot may not have the extensive history nor brand recognition comparable to platformers like Mario… yet. Make no mistake, Astro Bot is still no Super Smash Bros-type knockoff. Rather, Sony may finally have their own Mario-caliber mascot, and could perhaps be the spark for more variety in modern gaming outside of Nintendo.
-
Sep 24, 2024It's really hard to find any compelling reason for anyone to skip on Astro Bot. Sometimes it's easy to forget how fun video games can actually be, and Team ASOBI did a great job reminding us of that, and all the shared joy this industry can bring.
-
Sep 13, 2024Though I would prefer more open levels in the future, Astro Bot cements itself as PlayStation’s premier platforming series. This game solely brings back the golden era of PlayStation platformers like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. The sheer number of brilliant cameos show the right mix of nostalgia amidst expertly-crafted level design. If you’re looking for the purest form of video game fun but with modern mechanics, this is it.
-
Sep 10, 2024It’s not a game with a deep and rich narrative. Nor is deep in any particular sense. That’s not a criticism, it’s just that there’s not much to analyse based on how I usually focus on in my reviews. The game’s core quality is that it’s a whimsical, creative playground of ideas. We do need more of that in video games, and while the art style and overapplication of branding does deserve some reflection for what it implies about the relationship between video games, marketing teams, consumers and the idea that this is meant to be an art form, what is undeniable is that Astro Bot is worth every second you put into it.
-
Sep 10, 2024There are games that remind us why we fell in love with video games in the first place. In my opinion, Astro Bot is one of those games. It’s a phenomenally polished title, featuring great audiovisuals and, above all, brilliant gameplay that never gets boring.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a fantastic 3D platformer that does not disappoint. Astro and the other bots are always endearing, stages are full of variety and creativity, and the incorporation of the DualSense controller and classic PlayStation characters offer plenty of new gameplay. While the game isn’t very long, top-notch quality shines throughout.
-
Sep 5, 2024The secret of Astro Bot lies in its aesthetic and mechanical variety, and the reason why we can easily lose hours with its animated charm.
-
Sep 5, 2024Everything about Astro Bot has been painstakingly crafted to make it fun to experience, whether it's the fluid gameplay, unrivaled creativity or every interaction being a kaleidoscope of satisfying particle effects and sounds. Astro Bot is one of the best platformers in years and is a must-play title you shouldn't miss.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an incredible and fun adventure that celebrates the history of PlayStation and video games in a nostalgic way, capable of embracing the inner child of those who lived through past generations of Sony consoles. The levels are beautiful, the power-ups add a special layer of gameplay and the boss battles are creative, but the villains are not very memorable, which leaves the title below the best of Donkey Kong, Mario and Crash Bandicoot games.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is not always challenging in terms of gameplay, but offers pretty, varied and detailed platform worlds full of funny ideas.
-
Sep 5, 2024After years, Astro Bot made it to the star of the platforming genre in PlayStation universe bringing full-fledge game with tens of rich levels, funny power-ups, secret passaged and different planets. It is one of a few games you’ll enjoy without stress, pressure and will admire the creativity of Team Asobi.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot has accessible gameplay, superb Dualsense implementation, rock-solid tech and so much charm that you can’t help but smile along. It doesn’t want to revolutionize the platformer genre, it just wants you to be happy. And that is a mission it succeeds at with flying colors.
-
Sep 5, 2024Charming and disarmingly cheerful 3D platformer with cute characters that focuses on accessibility and a gigantic grab bag of creative ideas.
-
Sep 5, 2024The highest praise I can give Astro Bot is that it genuinely feels like PlayStation has its own Mario now. The gameplay, creativity and charm are competing with Nintendo's powerhouse with wonderful level design and engaging gameplay from start to finish. Only the relatively short runtime is a potential negative, and even that feels like a minor complaint. If you're a longtime PlayStation fan looking for a rush of nostalgia, a parent looking for a good game for their kids, or you just want a darn fun platformer, Astro Bot is a must-play.
-
Sep 5, 2024As an arcade game, Astro Bot ticks all the right boxes and really challenges the medium but in a good way with its crazy mechanics, sturdy controls and next-gen experience, particularly with the DualSense Controller. As the game delves into the history of PlayStation, there are some fantastic cameos that you will encounter during your adventures that nicely bring its homage all together.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an ultra-efficient platformer, but more than that. More than just a PlayStation tribute game, it's an experience in its own right. A Madeleine de Proust that will appeal to the little gamer in all of us. Far removed from the violence of many of today's AAA games, this is an outpouring of love for video games, and for PlayStation too, of course. In this sense, DualSense is more than ever in the spotlight, and all the better for it. We'd totally forgotten about its functionality, as the poor thing is generally under-exploited. Gameplay is a clear winner here, and you'll even find yourself experimenting with the hyper-calibrated haptic feedback. All in all, Astro Bot offers a dynamic, well-paced game that continually renews itself. There are a few glitches where skills, game sequences and OST use are repeated, but that's just nitpicking. In reality, it's a blast and leaves you wanting more. Astro Bot has a message, one that reminds us of what's essential: have fun, enjoy yourself and love video games. And for that, it's a total success.

Sep 5, 2024Before the PS5 Pro comes out, you're going to become a pro-PS5! A long and unbridled version of Astro's Playroom, the ultimate tribute to the PlayStation planet and the licenses that revolve around it, Astro Bot is an exceptional 3D platform game even if it doesn't innovate much. Beautiful, fluid, varied, perfectly manageable and with a mastered arcade pleasure, it is of exemplary generosity and finish. Team Asobi, by making fun its mantra, leaves the experimental playrooms to join the big league.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a wonderful love letter to all things PlayStation, and an exceptional platformer in its own right. If you own a PS5, you need to play this game.
-
Sep 5, 2024For its first major adventure on PS5, Astro Bot can boast a near flawless performance. Although we feel it lacks a “real” final world, Team Asobi's title is quite simply THE new benchmark for 3D closed-level platformers. Packed with excellent gameplay and level design ideas, it also takes full advantage of the PS5's power to bring new things to the table, offering a veritable fireworks display that takes players from surprise to surprise.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a gem, a game crafted with heart that manages to unite tradition and innovation. Despite its "small" size, the latest title from Team Asobi delivers an extraordinary experience thanks to the power of the PS5 and the clever use of the DualSense.
-
Sep 5, 2024This is so much more than just a glorified tech demo. Astro Bot proves to be a challenging and at the same time very charming platform adventure that takes you down nostalgia road and keeps you on your toes in between all the wholesome "ooohs" and "aaahs".
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a very accessible and enjoyable 3D platform game, featuring gameplay full of great ideas, flawless controls, and solid graphics. It's hard not to fall in love with it, especially if you're new to the genre.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot by Team Asobi is a hymn to video games and to the very act of playing: the PlayStation 5 robot is at the center of the first truly new generation platformer, a work created with obsessive care that pays homage to the entire story of the genre. Relying on impeccable level design and simply perfect technical execution, it unrolls a carpet of ideas, mechanics and wonderful moments that never cease to amaze and shock, from the first start up to the end credits. The consecration of Nicolas Doucet's team, which still has a slight margin for improvement, effectively leads to the birth of a new star on the PlayStation front, finally giving fans a title that is nothing short of unmissable.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot made me smile from beginning to end. A collection of endlessly inventive levels and fantastically fun abilities, it delivers joy in spades, never once becoming even remotely dull or repetitive. And while you don’t need a long history with Sony systems to enjoy it, it is especially a delight for those with a piece of PlayStation in their heart as a treasure trove full of playable nostalgia awaits. Taking the PS5 marketing mantra that “play has no limits” more seriously than you’d expect, Team Asobi has crafted a mascot platformer that goes near enough toe-to-toe with Nintendo's best efforts, and that's about as high a compliment as I can give it.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is special, a beaming reminder that bright, unfettered play is a truly wonderful thing.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot on PS5 feels like the culmination of every Team Asobi project before it. Given how many mascots Sony has lost over the years (this game's constant cameos certainly reminded me of that!), I'm completely on board with them adopting the little bot as their new face. They've earned it.
-
Sep 5, 2024Four years ago, Sony introduced the tagline “play has no limits” to advertise the PS5. Astro Bot is the first PlayStation exclusive since then that truly believes in that mission statement.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an exceptionally successful game in its own right, injecting pure happiness into your body over its 10-15 hours. It's exactly what Sony's console needs right now with its brightly coloured exterior, sharp controls and simple yet varied gameplay. The course for the stars is set, and I'm sure Astro will make it to the top.
-
Sep 5, 2024An excellent 3D platformer for all ages, especially those with some PlayStation experience. The levels overflow with playful details, and its precise controls take full advantage of the DualSense controller. While it occasionally repeats certain elements a bit too much, the rich content packed with references to gaming classics makes it arguably the best 3D platformer on the PS5.
-
Sep 5, 2024The simply titled Astro Bot is meant to be the cute robot's first significant foray into video games following a 2018 VR exclusive that earned praise but was stuck in its headset-only bubble, and a 2020 pack-in tech demo that hinted at more to come. The beauty of the game, as suggested by its title, is that even players returning for their third Astro adventure will find hours upon hours of new experiences, collectively and magnificently presented as a parade of joyous sights, sounds, and adventures. This is a grand re-opening for Astro Bot, and it surely marks the start of what is destined to be a beloved series shooting for the moon.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot captures all of the strong points of a brand new puppy. It’s cute, playful, and doggedly loyal to PlayStation’s history. While it still has room to grow into its legs and sharpen its teeth, most missteps are easily forgiven. I mean, just look at it!
-
Sep 5, 2024Team ASOBI has yet again cracked the code of delivering an experience that’s fun, rewarding and nostalgic all at the same time. With nostalgic callbacks, vibrant worlds and welcoming gameplay, there’s truly something for everyone in Astro Bot.
-
Sep 5, 2024AstoBot is a true next-generation platformer that combines top-notch design, graphics, and mechanics with loads of fresh ideas and the traditional values of this somewhat neglected genre. It's the perfect title for both old and new fans of the PlayStation brand and for enthusiasts of high-quality platformer action that, until now, was only possible on systems from another Japanese company.
-
Sep 5, 2024A somewhat inconsistent difficulty level and checkpoint system fortunately do little to detract from this excellent platforming experience. Astro Bot has all the potential to become PlayStation's permanent mascot, precisely because he embodies everything that makes PlayStation what it is. I sincerely hope he gets that chance, because if this game proves anything, it's that even a longer Astro Bot game isn't long enough. This leaves you wanting more once again.
-
Sep 5, 2024Every second spent on the game testifies to the enormous skill of the developers and the love they have for the PlayStation universe. A highly enjoyable adventure from start to finish.
-
Sep 5, 2024Since our hands-on preview, we already knew that Team Asobi was going to have a great adventure in store for us with Astro Bot, but we didn't imagine that the Japanese studio was going to perform so well. More than a real aesthetic for its game, with a captivating, shimmering and warm universe, Astro Bot also surprises with the precision of its gameplay. The fluidity with which the actions follow one another, the surgical playability, this incredible tempo that gives the feeling that everything is possible makes the game absolutely phenomenal in its gameplay. Add to that a new idea at each new level, gadgets that never stop varying the pleasures, environments all different from each other, massive bosses that are a real pleasure to face and we undoubtedly get one of the best 3D platformers of the last ten years. Nintendo had the monopoly on the genre with the quality of its productions until now, but now, we will have to count on Nicolas Doucet and Team Asobi. Now, as we detailed in our paper, Sony must realize that platformers must come back in force in its ecosystem, like in the good old days of PS2 / PS3 with licenses (Ape Escape, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, LocoRocco, Sly Raccoon), which had nevertheless left their mark. Because a talent like that must not disappear...
-
Malditos NerdsSep 5, 2024Continuous and perfectionist, all at the same time. Astro Bot is one of the best 3D platformers of recent years. Hopefully there will be a lot more of this franchise in development.
-
Sep 5, 2024An excellent 3D platformer, with the best force feedback ever seen (or rather felt) in a video game, even if it’s a curiously flawed celebration of 30 years of PlayStation.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot breaks from its tech demo roots to become a wildly entertaining, modern 3D platformer that stands out as a top PlayStation title.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro's first fully-spec’d adventure might not move the needle forward for 3D platformers, but it's a triumphant effort from Team Asobi that stands toe-to-toe with some of the best in the genre. It's full of joy and surprise, and presented with an astonishing level of detail and tactility and packed to the rafters with reverence for PlayStation history. An easy pick for one of the year's best, if not the PS5’s as a whole.
-
Sep 5, 2024Any frustration with the game ultimately stems from wanting more of what Astro Bot provides, which at its core is a top-tier platformer with innovation, charm, and enjoyment to spare.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot combines engrossing platforming mechanics across masterfully designed levels that are filled with fun obstacles and collectibles. It stands up to gaming’s biggest giants like Mario and Sonic as a result and is a joyous Game of the Year contender.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a wonderfully entertaining and diverse platformer that throws new ideas at you at an incredible rate, topped with stunning visuals and an injection of PlayStation nostalgia.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is not just another platformer; it's a vibrant celebration of PlayStation's storied history and a triumphant re-introduction to its newest mascot. Every world offers compelling gameplay that is elevated to the next level by the innovative use of the DualSense controller, and its heartwarming nods to the last 30 years of PlayStation ensure that the experience is charmingly nostalgic while still feeling refreshingly original. Astro Bot is whimsical, inventive and just feels downright fun to play. While Astro Bot's previous outings were impressive, this latest adventure solidifies him as a beloved character in his own right. They've truly done it. PlayStation has finally found the mascot it's always wanted.

Game World Navigator MagazineDec 20, 2024This rather short, but very eventful journey will send Astro up in the air, out to the deep waters, or even inside gargantuan monsters. [Issue#265, p.70]
-
Sep 5, 2024A colorful and varied 3D platformer full of fun ideas and some surprising cameos. Not simply fans of the genre should get their money's worth - it would not be surprising if Astro Bot wins many new friends with this game.
-
Sep 5, 2024Besides Nintendo there aren'n many companies developing big-budget platformers. Astro Bot is a part of a dying breed that delivers tons of pure dopamine shots. If games should first and foremost provide fun, then Astro Bot is a Game with a capital G.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot, a generally exceptional, imaginative game, features a white, heroic robot with pixelated eyes of blue who waddles tentatively through the universe like a toddler. But Astro is an ardent puzzle-solver, too, in a game that is a mammoth, interactive pop culture history.
-
Sep 5, 2024If you love PlayStation and its franchises you will absolutely love this game. The levels are unique and you will have a smile on your face the entire game. What a brilliant experience.
-
Sep 5, 2024As an entertaining, accessible, and polished 3D platformer, Astro Bot offers plenty of variety in both visuals and gameplay, delivering a lively space adventure with plenty of PlayStation references.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot’s biggest adventure yet. But is it the best one? We’d say yes. It’s certainly the most complete-feeling entry in the franchise. But it’s not without flaws.
-
Sep 5, 2024Despite being a bit disappointed with the new Astro Bot, I still think every PlayStation 5 owner should play it. It's one of the few titles that takes full advantage of the console's potential, showing us what PS5 games could be today if developers were more willing to use the tools developed by Sony engineers.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is exceptionally creatively designed, with a few special PlayStation worlds as absolute highlights. However, in terms of platforming, the game does little out of the ordinary.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is incredibly charming and deeply nostalgic, all the while delivering creativity on par with some of the best Nintendo has to offer. There are a few minor hiccups along the way, but beneath it all there's an undeniable playfulness that will resonate with both new and old PlayStation fans alike.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is an incredibly charming 3D platformer that fell just short of being perfect. What stood in its way were the previous installments, which set the bar high and made the latest game feel not fresh enough in comparison. However, my overall experience with it was simply fantastic.
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is what we needed after playing Astro's Playroom for a long time; the student surpasses the teacher, but it is difficult to tell the difference between both games. This is a space adventure full of surprises, challenges and immersion that is only possible with the DualSense controller. This game is essentially a thank-you letter to PlayStation fans.

Oct 21, 2024One of the best video games of the year. An imaginative action platform game with tons of tributes to PlayStation's legacy. [Recommended]
-
Sep 5, 2024Astro Bot is a mighty game and so is its eponymous hero, but I don’t think either is likely to save the world or this industry. For what it is, though, Astro Bot is incredible, and that is worth celebrating here and now. I just can’t help walking away from the experience with a bittersweet taste in my mouth and a hope that someday soon, we don’t have to look to gaming’s past for the best bits of it all.
-
Sep 5, 2024Sony has been reaching for something like Astro Bot since PlayStation launched 30 years ago in the age of Mario and Sonic. It has cycled through mascots like Crash, Jak, and Sackboy in its quest for a breezy family game that could hold its own with Nintendo’s best as well as mesh with Sony’s cooler, tech-centric brand. Sony ended up settling for edgier cinematic action heroes instead, but deep in the consoles’ soul, it felt like something was missing. Astro Bot — a dazzling, joyful game — is a celebration of all the failed attempts and quizzical detours Sony made on that quest. And it might also be the game to fill that hole at last.
-
Sep 6, 2024The PS5 gets put to the test for once with this rare instance of console exclusivity, producing some of the brightest, most expressive worlds we’ve ever punched our way through. It’s a game constantly exploding with beautiful colors, propulsive sounds, and, yes, the gentle kick of nostalgia.
-
Sep 9, 2024Astro Bot is so much more than a mascot platformer plucked from the late ’90s and retooled for modern audiences and hardware. It is the kind of game that reminds us why video games exist in the first place: love. (Yeah, I know that sounds corny — but I’m serious.) Astro Bot exemplifies the great love that compels us to play, make, write about, and share video games with our friends and family. Even if it will keep you up way past your bedtime.
