Another Fisherman's Tale

A good example on how to use virtual reality in a stimulating, creative way. Its controls and the abstraction of some puzzles may scare some players, but the journey is worth your time.

Moving away from the original concept, this sequel delivers an experience that knows how to make the most of VR design, and wraps it in an emotional story that can be enjoyed even if you didn’t play the original title.

Another Fisherman's Tale may not win any awards for visuals or reinvent the wheel in gameplay. Nevertheless, the love Vertigo Games put in shines through. The story is flawless and the gameplay, while relatively simple, serves its purpose without getting in the way of itself. Another Fisherman’s Tale is a beautiful game that deserves your time on PSVR2.

PSVR2 helps makes the game look incredible, but things feel a bit let down by the PSVR 2 Sense Controllers. Attaching hands can be awkward as the round base on the controllers tends to get in the way, and controlling detached hands is less than precise in regards to turning and moving in a specific direction.

Another Fisherman's Tale proved to be a sequel that lived up to expectations. The duration of the adventure finally does justice to the production value, while the new mechanics based on the ability to manipulate the protagonist's body guarantee a fresh and original approach to solving puzzles. Net of some flaws in the control system, we appreciated the greater physical involvement required of the player during the experience. The narrative sector pushes us to want to know more about Bob and his daughter Nina, accompanied by a narrative voice that skilfully mixes lightness and poetry.

The tale itself is slightly wonky by the end, but sharp puzzle design and a good understanding of VR space makes for an enjoyable, if rather brief, voyage. [Issue#28, p.86]

Another Fisherman’s Tale is a charming, unique, and well-crafted puzzle game with creative set pieces and a heartfelt story, but unfortunately is let down by an unwieldy control scheme and a short three-to-four-hour long campaign. Still, the story of Bob and his adventures is worth diving into for its sheer creativity and uniqueness.

This puzzle game in VR has an emotional story about what's big and what's small told through easy to understand puzzles and with clever use of virtual reality.

Another Fisherman’s Tale eventually tells a heartwarming story that many people will relate to, but whether or not they stick with it to the end is the big question. The narrative feels contorted to accommodate the gameplay, which itself stales rather quickly, and by the time it gets on track the game is over.
