For me, Rogue Incursion is everything I’ve been waiting for in an Alien game. It’s a tense, scary, atmospheric game with a strong story. It balances combat with survival horror, and it’s got its own new storyline that’s nestled deep within the Alien universe. I’ve seen the game described as a “cinematic experience,” and I have to agree. All the pieces work perfectly, making it feel like you’re playing through a brand new Alien movie.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition delivers a fun and engaging experience, balancing action and stealth within the Alien franchise universe, with a well-crafted setting, exploration, and soundtrack that enhance immersion. The VR adaptation to the conventional version was well executed, preserving the essence of the game. However, certain visual glitches take away some of the experience's shine, and the tension and terror don't quite reach the level of Alien: Isolation. Even so, it's a solid title and recommended for fans of the series and the genre.

Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One: Evolved Edition is fun while it lasts. Over the course of its 5-7 hour campaign, The Xenomorphs are clearly the stars of the show in this lovingly crafted horror shooter that makes Colonial Marines look like utter garbage. Though I have a feeling it may be better experienced in VR, this new 2D version is still a great way to play one of the best Alien games since Isolation.

Survios successfully expands the Alien universe with a tense first-person horror experience featuring a strong lead and excellent atmosphere, though repetitive combat, weak animations, and minor translation issues prevent it from reaching greatness.

It’s unusual to see a game make the jump from VR to flat screen and not vice verca, but Alien: Rogue Incursion proves that something is inevitably lost in the transition. Still, it remains a faithful adaptation of the beloved horror franchise, albeit a bit short, with some gameplay elements that don’t translate as well outside of VR.

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a decent game, but it feels like one that should have launched alongside its sequel to deliver a more cohesive and fleshed-out experience.

Alien: Rogue Incursion nails the atmosphere, spectacle, and sense of place, but struggles to maintain the essential threat level.

This flat-screen version of Alien: Rogue Incursion – Part One isn't as tense as its VR counterpart, and its gameplay isn't as exciting as a result, but it remains a solid experience for Alien fans. Just be prepared to backtrack a lot in the latter half and perhaps be disappointed by its unsatisfactory ending.

Alien Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is a tepid but well-written downgrade over its otherwise atmospheric VR release, sporting minimal graphical upgrades over its 2024 counterpart.

Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition then is deeply flawed and arguably struggles to trace a satisfying gameplay loop over the lines of its source material. However, it gets enough right with the atmosphere and general presentation that it ends up being one of the best 6/10 games I’ve played in a good while. Though that might be damning with faint praise and certainly far from a perfect organism, I still feel Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition is worth checking out for Aliens fans all the same.

If you like to dabble in Alien games and haven’t played Alien Isolation as yet, I’d recommend that over this. If you’re a true Alien fan and happen to love VR, grab that version of Rogue Incursion instead. If you’re still reading, don’t have VR, and don’t mind a $45 AUD price tag, then this one is for you, warts and all.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the production value here, and at times it offers an atmospheric and visually appealing experience, but unfortunately, the gaming experience itself suffers over time, partly due to a lack of detail that detracts from the overall impression.

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a fine FPS, though its lack of Alien’s signature frights hold it back from being great. Its marketing plays up how dangerous Xenomorphs are, with its launch trailer including the line, “If they reach Earth, humanity ends.” But, after about seven hours with Alien: Rogue Incursion, it seems as if humanity has one soldier with enough ammo, they’ll be all right. It’s billed as part one of a larger story, and ends on quite the cliffhanger, so perhaps those Xenomorphs will become as horrifying as they should be whenever part two lands.
