    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely loved the game for my first playthrough. Thought the aiming mechanics were a bit wonky during some sequences, but overall everything exuded my original thoughts about the game. I was already interested in the setting of the game as I love history, but it heats up very quickly as you long for information with the events that occur relatively fast. I enjoyed every character mentioned throughout the story although I wish I got to know more about Rodric. Hugo might be my favorite child in a video game, his voice actor was amazing. It was adorable playing as him and playing these characters really made me feel the emotions they had for eachother as a brother and sister connected by a thread. Strong 9/10 from the story, music, sfx, gameplay, and voice acting. 100% recommend.… Expand

    I grow tired of Indie games getting fantastic reviews, like Plague Tale and Hades. Sure, they deserve praise and accolades, but do they REALLY deserve to have a spot in the same room as legendary titles like; Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, Witcher, Metal Gear Solid, GTA, etc.

    Metacritic needs to find a way to balance these ratings. This game was fine, but 82/100 and 8/10 fine?    I grow tired of Indie games getting fantastic reviews, like Plague Tale and Hades. Sure, they deserve praise and accolades, but do they REALLY deserve to have a spot in the same room as legendary titles like; Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, Witcher, Metal Gear Solid, GTA, etc.

    Metacritic needs to find a way to balance these ratings. This game was fine, but 82/100 and 8/10 fine? Well, if a massive game like SkyrimSE is 81/100 (which has over 300 GOTY awards), how the hell does that even make sense?

    The game itself was, like i said, fun. But absolutely garbage compared to Skyrim. So these rating systems don't hold much integrity anymore it seems.    … Expand

    Good game, I think the gameplay feels a bit slow. However the mood and characters are well done. Would definitely recommend to players who enjoy story-driven third person games.

    Broken game design, and poor character control balance! (PS5 Version)

    The last chapter broke the game for me. Starting from the 'pushing cart' part, till the final boss this game is an unplayable mess. Took me about 30 tries to finish the cart part, I was unable to beat the boss.     Character controls lack a lot of precision, every single time, when the final enemy was exposed to my attack, my first shot was always a miss... at a certain point, another character was supposed to help you with the rats, but for some reason he was unable to do so.
    So you run around, try to reach that same moment only to hear that he can't do it because of some arbitrary reasons... It took me maybe 20/25 tries, after that I said F-it, and this was the end of the game for me.
    I am not the best player in the world, although I did a platinum trophy in Bloodborne, Sekiro, God Of War finished on highest difficulty, and yet, A Plague Tale made me rage quit.

    Voice acting ("English" version) in this game is poor and really annoying as well. I understand, it's an indie title, but what is the point of having an English speaking actress pretend a french one? Makes no sense at all. Accents makes sense when the characters speak between each other in a different languages, but here, we have a French people speaking between each other in English with some weird accents. Why?
    From the beginning this broke the immersion for me. Every single time when Amicia and Hugo where talking, it was like nails on a chalkboard! Unbearable, infantile, stylized and unnecessary.

    Oh, and there should be a drinking game, every time you here Hugo saying 'mummy', you 'drink' a bullet to the head. :3

    I was very exited for this game, and in the end it's a title I will remember for a long, LONG time, as one of the most annoying games I've played in a long time. Hype for the second game is gone, will not play it even if it was a free game.    … Expand

    Este juego ha sido todo un descubrimiento. Historia interesante, desarrollo impecable, gráficos impresionantes, apartado artístico y ambientación sobresalientes. El salto a PS5 le ha sentado de maravilla y encima a 60 frames. Sabe mantener la tensión de principio a fin sin aburrir al jugador. Me alegro que cada vez mas directores se animen a dejsr de lado los mundos abiertos.

It's frustrating beyond belief, and I eventually got so fed up with it that I couldn't be bothered to continue the game, despite wanting to see what happens in the story.

    A Plague Tale: Innocence could've been a remarkable visual novel or movie, but as a game, it's an utter disappointment.    … Expand

    The beautiful game has become even better. Thank you to Asobo Studio for an atmospheric adventure. I was happy to try it again two years later and was glad to plunge into the story of Amicia and Hugo again. Applause, I'm really looking forward to the second part!

    Amazing game with a phenomenal setting and great story. Sometimes i didn’t know what to do but i figured it out after some time. The haptic feedback of the ps5 controller fit very good and made the game much more immersive.

    Amazing game! It looks very good! I will score it 10 of 10 and will wait for the upcoming chapter! It's interesting what's going next! Love the stylistics of the game! Setting looks incredible! I haven't chance to play on it at PS4 but on PS5 it looks like a real masterpiece!

    A great game marred by very poor design decisions. The story is great, if a bit too creepy. I got really tired of fighting thousands of rats all the time. But the checkpoint system is a total failure.     This game is short, sweet and a very enjoyable on the rails narrative that touches your heart strings with some thrills and bonding moments along the way.

    I got this on PS+ for free and would recommend buying it. I don’t give out 9s often but this one was worth it.

    I got the game by ps plus and really liked it. The game has a good ambient in regard to graphics. Initially, the gameplay resembles the last of us but then it differs. Although some websites mention the game as a horror game, it is not. However, if you have a serious fear of rats and if you think you will get nervous if you see rats in the game then you shouldn't play the game. She is only able to use sling in regard to fighting and that's it, which is pretty realistic. Anyway, to sum up I am glad I played this game.… Expand

    I have the ps5. This game is amazing and VERY UNDERRATED! It is very emotional and it will touch you. Very similar to the LAST OF US 1, by many aspects. Buy it!

    The game’s second to last level is bugged on ps5 and is almost incomplete able, until this point it was an enjoyable game but until this is fixed my score will remain as low as possible.

    A Plague Tale прошел за 27 часов. Игра линейная, и если обшаривать каждый уголок, можно пройти за одно прохождение. Но мне пришлось перепроходить 9 главу для ачивки The hard way / Напролом. Я по привычке все досконально изучаю и перед тем, как войти через главную дверь, сунулся проверить дверь с торца здания, а это оказалось переходом на 10 уровень. И повторно пробегать 14 главу для ачивкиA Plague Tale прошел за 27 часов. Игра линейная, и если обшаривать каждый уголок, можно пройти за одно прохождение. Но мне пришлось перепроходить 9 главу для ачивки The hard way / Напролом. Я по привычке все досконально изучаю и перед тем, как войти через главную дверь, сунулся проверить дверь с торца здания, а это оказалось переходом на 10 уровень. И повторно пробегать 14 главу для ачивки Captain Sidekick / Прихвостень мессира. Там зашел в коридор, смотрю Николай стоит, думал его обойду, а там чек поинт и никак уже не забежать раньше него, и всё, уровень заново)

    Понравилось как отражена атмосфера средневековья, кругом трупы, крысы, вонище, говнище... Медицина околонулевая, люди не моются, маски не носят, нет антисептиков, вакцин. Не удивительно, что в те времена столько передохло.

    Графика приятная, играл в 4K HDR. От мерзких крысиных гнезд аж пробирало, погружение такое, что реально ни к чему там не хочется прикасаться. Музыка хорошо ложится на повествование, подчеркивает и нагнетает тревожность и безысходность. А местами взрывается такими мощными органными партиями, что до мурашек!

    Практически с каждым уровнем игра подкидывает какую-либо механику, элемент прохождения. Интересно играть и следить за сюжетом. Просадок нет, проходится все по-стелсу, устраняя хитрыми способами противников и решая не сложные головоломки. Иногда надо побегать и выполнять все действия по-быстрому.

    Это одна из интереснейших и простых платин на PS5.

    Great story, no padding or grinding, and a nice showcase of what games can do. Much if the game feels like the in-between segments of a Naughty Game. You take in the atmosphere and watch the characters interact with each other and the world. Don’t let this lull you into a false sense of security. You have sneak, plan, and fight to win.

    The good: this experience is consistently great. My play through was a little over 10 hours. It was all quality. No fetch missions. No backtracking. Every segment had set pieces and unique dialogue. Enemies are differentiated and companions are unique. This is the kind of full experience that is lacking from generic AAA games. All hail the AA experience.

    The bad: I hate to say anything bad about this game, but gameplay could be smoother. You have to select different ammunition for different enemies and the time it takes to do this may kill you. The player character can sprint but not dodge. For sneaking, this is fine. When the game throws a small assault force against you, be glad the PS5 loads quickly.

    Graphics and sound are mixed. You won’t see much of the power of the PS5 compared to the PS4, but you will see a sea of rats in surprising numbers. Lighting looks good. Some areas seem to glow by themselves, but this may be a design choice to aid the player. 3D sound seemed absent. The PS5 has the capability only if the developers use it.

    Full disclosure: I picked this up for “free” with PS+. This is the kind of experience I love from PS+. This is the kind of game that might not show up on my radar or that I might overlook in favor of a 50 hour plus AAA open world game. This game showed me something new, and the older I get and the longer my list of completed games, the more I appreciate games with new things to show me.    … Expand

    Very pleasant game! It sometimes lacks some variety in the way it approaches gameplay, but I had a lot of fun overall. The story is taking, the original voices in French are perfect, and it is one of those games that the spectator likes to watch. Convenient if you like to play games together with someone. It lacks the technical perfection to be very high rated.

    Eine kleine Überraschung, die ich dieses Jahr entdeckt habe. Die Story treibt ein wirklich an bis zum Ende. Die Optik ist fantastisch und das Gameplay hat viele abwechslungsreiche Kniffe die einen an der Stange halten. Bin sehr gespannt wie es weiter geht!

To keep it short, this is a stealth game based in the 1300s, with great characters and an excellent, touching, and powerful written story. And my oh my, what a visually stunning game, especially for its setting. Lastly, the haptic feedback onThis game is a sleeper hit!     I had a great experience with the game.From the graphical and design point of view,it is well made,so are the story and the characters,although the design of some characters might have been inspired from different sources,they all fir perfectly.

    4)One area which could be improved is the kill on sight mechanic of the guards,and their variety,as of right now the types of enemy AI that you can find are limited.
    Overall,it is a game worth everyone's time,a game where anyone can have some fun while finishing the story.A great reminder and standing rock of the genre.

    Inspired by the last of us I think but this game takes place 700-750 years before. Its a stealth & puzzle game thats really fun and frustrating at times. Towards the end you die a lot but theres check points thank GOD. Story is a roller-coaster of emotions

    it was a good game, i liked the story and the characters. Gameplay pissed me off a bit to be honest. some combat situations were quite frustrating in my experience.

    Mais quel bon jeu. Et dire qu'ils ont fait un jeu comme ça avec un budget limité. Très impressionnant. Quasi tout est bon, game play, histoire, chara design, rejouabilité etc... Et dire que ce sont des français qui ont fait ce jeu est vraiment sympa et montre qu'on a de grand talent dans notre pays.

    Graphics are good, level design is also fine. The story provides enough excitement to keep your interest alive, simply its an interesting story..

    But the gameplay side of the game is quite limited. We keep doing the same things from the first episode to almost the end of the game. I liked the combat /stealth system, and the decent AI.     Música y escenarios increíbles, puzzles muy chulos y usando muy bien los escenarios. Las ratas en principio molan, pero si te quedas un rato mirando se hacen medio raras, como si estuvieran bugueadas.

    · Cosas buenas: gráficamente y el nivel artístico es sublime. La ambientación, los personajes y la historia más de lo mismo. Técnicamente y la banda sonora es para quitarse el sombrero, y    Música y escenarios increíbles, puzzles muy chulos y usando muy bien los escenarios.     I don't know how I missed this game so I am glad Ps Plus offered it for free. The story is unique and haunting, set in a time period few other stories are. The puzzles are innovative, although not very challenging and the game is easy to master. The dual sense haptic feedback is used wisely for this on PS5 giving the game an extra layer of value.

    10/10 goes to the story only. So immersive, so beautiful, everything was perfect along with the characters and the atmosphere. The game-play was a little rusty, but still manageable and the final boss was great. I love when you have to figure out a strategy in order to defeat the enemy, without getting stuck somewhere or outta "ammo".
    Can't wait for Requiem.

    I was hooked on the story and played the game in two sittings, took me around 10 hours to finish it and i loved it.

    The revealed characters you sympathize with, the choices you have to make are terrible. All this is accompanied by beautiful compositions.

    Amazing story and characters. The options to defend yourself are more extensive than the first game. However, you still need to use stealth and be smart with your moves. This adds a good tension to the game and I don't feel overpowered. Me and my girlfriend play this game together, she does the chill parts and me the action :)

    (9) Superb. Just shy of gaming nirvana, this score is a high recommendation because the game reviewed is head-and-shoulders above its competition.

    This game was in my backlog for a while, didn’t think the rat infested world what be interesting. I was mistaken the story is great. Each chapter felt evenly paced and the world matched the story. There was a lot more gameplay than I was expecting since people called it a glorified walking simulator. I thought they did a good job with coming up with different gaming mechanics that made sense with the characters and world. Lot of games just throw multiple gameplay mechanics into the world so people wouldn’t get bored but they don’t fit into the world. They could work on opening up the levels a bit more. Most of the game there is only one path to take. The cast/voiceovers where great. The story developed nicely and kept you wanting to continue. I look forward to the next game. Oh, and the graphics are amazing which surprised me since it was an indie game.    … Expand

    Aunque no todo es malo. La historia en muy buena, y te dan ganas de seguir jugando en todo momento para ver su continuación, además de que todos los personajes tienen sus propias características y personalidades que los hace únicos. También he de decir que, pese a que no está doblado al español, el doblaje al inglés es una maravilla, y los subtítulos en español están perfectamente redactados.
    En definitiva, es un videojuego que sorprende gratamente con su gran historia y personajes, pero que tiene un gran margen de mejora en lo referente a la jugabilidad.

    PD : Desde mi punto de vista, la valoración estaría entre un 8-7, por lo que le doy un 7 con la esperanza de que le pueda subir la nota a su segunda parte.    … Expand

    I loved how this game turned my kids into spectator, first they were minding their own businesses but listening and turning their heads to the tv, then minutes later they're on the couch full-on focus watching and commenting on the game I am playing. These kinds of moments is so special to me.

    And the game itself is a real well done, the subject matter is was a little bit interesting but I never thought I would be so keen with the gameplay mechanics, until I learned I can't put down the controller because it was actually fun to solve every encounters. The setting and the story is top notch, many likeable characters, the dialogues and voice acting of the characters is well put (that my kids likes to listen and watch), the sound direction is great from lull to intense moments. One of the best looking games as well, a nice balance of ambient themes, it can be colorful and color less depending on the scenes which sets up the right mood.

    There are not so many flaws, if there was one thing I can say bad about is that the counter-move or dodge while there's an attacking enemy suddenly becomes absent when in one of the first encounter it was possible, as though it was introduced so that you know you can dodge like that in any encounters, but apparently that wasn't the case.

    But the game is so good, I have more than enough reason to get and play the sequel.    … Expand

    With improved graphics and fantastic use of the DualSense, the PS5 is the best place to play A Plague Tale. This is a unique, interesting story which is well worth your time. I just with that playing it was more interesting. Long sections of the game are only saved by strong atmosphere and your connection to these characters. Linear gameplay and controls that don’t hold up well in intense moments lead to frequent frustration and a game which feels like it goes on longer than it needs to. If you know what you’re getting into, however, there’s still enough good in A Plague Tale: Innocence to be worth your time.
