Not really fitting into one genre or the other it mixes elements of survival horror, puzzle, stealth and old school 2d adventure. The graphics are a mix of 2d pixels and hand drawn animation but don't let the retro look or cartoony style fool you this game has a real unnerving atmosphere to it and it's great credit to the developers that they managed to create such a sense of tension and dread in a 2d retro looking game. The sound is especially great with music building tension and sounds becoming more dramatic as enemies get close.
It's quite a story driven game and the plot is as sweet as it is disturbing thanks to it's emphasis on the characters friendships and inner struggles as much as the grizzly events going on around them.
It isn't perfect, the plot while mostly good feels a bit rushed towards the end and doesn't quite live up to it's earlier promise with a disappointing ending and lots of frustrating plot holes. The gameplay is tense when it needs to be and the puzzles are mostly well thought out but I had the feeling some of the design could have been expanded on as it's not too long before the enemy encounters become predictable and lose some tension (especially on normal difficulty with unlimited continues and generous checkpoints). Ditto the puzzles maybe could have had a bit more variety to them.
Overall it's a very good game that perhaps just falls short of something really special. It's definitely worth a look though if you're a horror game fan and fancy something a bit different to the usual survival horror fare, especially because it's also cheap too!… Expand
